I don't exactly know why I've decided to throw this chapter in here, but regardless of the reasons, I must preface that this chapter contains topics that may be offensive and disturbing to some viewers out there.

If you weren't able to tell from the title of the chapter alone, this chapter talks about slavery. Being the color of a milk-chocolate almond bar myself, the word "slavery" immediately raises my senses as it is indeed a fairly touchy topic. But brutal racial enslavement like that is not what we are here to talk about, instead, we are talking about a different form of slavery that is just as bad, if not, even worse. And it still persists in the modern world even up to this day. That of course is sexual slavery, something that appears time and time again not only in GATE (and numerous Gate Fanfics) but Isekai anime in general.

Given the serious subject nature of the topic, I will be dropping the usual sarcastic face of my story. This is from the bottom of my heart and a genuine rant about this trope. Once again, you've been warned…

Anime. Anime is extremely weird in general, most shows are really hit or miss in regards to the show's quality. Good Anime tends to be extremely good anime, and some of the best shows I've ever watched. But bad shows tend to just leave you with an empty and hollow feeling on the inside as you try and figure out why you wasted the last few hours of your life watching Otaku comfort food and fetish fuel.

While it isn't uncommon to find a show that is just 'okay', it isn't as common as in Western Media, and there is a significantly smaller number of shows that I can think of that were just 'meh'. Most of them are either really good or really bad.

To edge closer to the topic of today, I want to talk about Iseakai. A genre of anime that is frequently shit on for having a lot more shows that reside in the 'bad' section than in the 'good' section. This is something that I believe is unfair, as the Isekai genre, in general, comes in an extremely broad range of shows and topics, and if I told you what my favorite Isekai was, you wouldn't even know it was an Isekai at all.

"GATE: Thus The JSDF Fought There!", is an Isekai anime adaptation from a light-novel. I don't read light novels or mangas because reading from right to left hurts my brain, and many tend to be extremely raw in terms of quality. But the bottom line is that GATE is indeed an Isekai, just like "Rising of The Sheild Hero", or, "That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime After I Was Randomly Stabbed By In The Middle Of Tokyo, And Fucking Died". The basic premise is still there, the protagonist finds a portal and goes to a new world, and from there, hijinks ensue. The reason I brought up the quality of anime before is because GATE happens to be one of the rare cases in which an anime is just "Meh". It isn't anything special. Sure, it takes the concept of Isekai and twists it a little by bringing in the military and the Japanese government, but in the end, GATE isn't that good. But it also isn't terrible. It exists in a state of almost having moments where it is good, but they are overshadowed by how bland and hollow the show is in general. There isn't any substance to it, it just exists as Japanese Otaku and far-right-wing comfort food, which is a crying shame considering how much could've been done with the premise. All told, if you are someone who just likes to watch the Imperial Army get destroyed by cool guns and seeing their shocked facial expressions, then this anime will be right up your alley. I'm sure you already know that, or else you wouldn't be reading this fic at all.

I suppose with that out of the way, I'll stop stalling and get to the point. GATE and many Isekai shows in general tend to include the practice of sexual slavery in them. The most obvious example in GATE is the character, "Tyuule".

Now I believe that Tyuule is one of the only good characters in the entire show, and that's saying a lot considering that she's a secondary character at best. When she isn't being used as a plot device, she tends to have real moments of personal trauma and depth that makes her clamber for freedom, and dream of being liberated. Out of all the things GATE does piss poorly, GATE manages to do slavery right. That is not a sentence I thought I'd ever type out in my entire life, but I also never thought I'd be here making this argument online.

GATE portrays slavery in the way it should be portrayed. There is not retarded moments where the "heroes" see a broken slave girl on the street or something and decided to buy her because the hero is "Such a good person". Slavery is bad no matter who is engaging in it or for what reason. If you manage to put a price tag on another intelligent and fully sentient being, that makes you a bad person. There is none of this, "Oh but he's a good master" bullshit, that keeps coming up in Isekai without fail time, and time again. There is no such thing as a "good slave master". I should know, my ancestors broke their backs in the sweltering heat of the Caribbean working on some god-forsaken sugar plantation in Haiti.

Or the Dominican Republic I'm not really sure.

Slavery is bad. Isekai tends to forget this. GATE manages to show this in a way that I believe was executed good-enough. The civilians who were captured and sold into slavery at Ginza, Tyuule, etc. They do not wish to be slaves anymore. The protagonists are not here to 'buy' them back or whatever bullshit like that, they are there to free them. Freedom is the only good option.

As much as I like Rising of the Sheild Hero, god damn is Raphtalia fucking retarded. She decided to sell herself back to Naofumi, are you braindead? Are you actually stupid?

This is a problem throughout Isekai and many GATE Fanfiction here. We tend to glorify slavery, justifying the practice of owning another sentient being as "Well, he's a good master", or "She gave consent for it."

Naofumi isn't even a morally good person, he's an adventure-capitalist. He's just a guy who is looking to make bank for most of his arch. That is something I can credit the writers on, in making a character that isn't the same typical mary-sue that rescues everyone and is sooo morally righteous! But even still, I can't believe the Racoon actually decided to imprint herself with the bond that keeps her as his slave. That is just purely idiotic. She was free, and she was fine being free. That legit made my brain melt.

For those of you who aren't familiar with Rising of The Sheild Hero, that might not make any sense to you. If you like anime, and Isekai in general, that show is a good watch. But be warned, it is quite ridiculous at times.

If you voluntarily give up your freedom to be the direct slave under another human being, when you could've easily had just kept your freedom, that decision alone makes you absolutely, positively, fucking retarded. I don't care who your 'master' is, nothing is better than having your freedom.

Do you hear that Raphtalia? You're dumb!

Now that I got that rant out of my system, you may ask yourself, "But Digital Riot, what if the person buying the slave is a good person?"

I'll tell you why using another Isekai anime that I have a strong grudge against. Now, this anime actually sucks even for the standard Isekai genre. Sword Art Online is usually considered one of the worst anime to come out in the genre, but this one is a lot worse. I'm talking about "The Master of Ragnarok". The entire show is god-awful, do not watch it. But the thing that really set me off is the following situation. Are you ready? Here we go:

So after becoming the mayor of a pretty well-established city (In this case the city's leader, and the person everyone looks up to and holds in high regards) our main character "Yuto Suoh" and his harem (go figure this one has a harem) go around the city for some reason I can't remember and I can't be bothered to check. There they find a man selling a mother and daughter as slaves. Obviously Yuto is upset at this because he is the 'good guy self-insert mary-sue protagonist'.

Given the situation, what would you do in this situation? Would you:

A) Reprimand the man for selling human beings, and have him arrested. Thereby setting a precedent to everyone else in the village to say that you disagree with the practice of slavery, and banning it from the village as a whole.

B) Ignore it, figuring the slave market contributes to a sizeable portion of the economy, and you cant tackle it even if you personally disagree with the practice.

Or C), fucking buy the slaves, thereby contributing to the Slave Trading market, and cementing incentives to further increase the slave trade. Legitimizing the practice, and allowing it to grow in the village you reside in. ALL WHILE TELLING THE AUDIENCE THAT YOU DISAGREE WITH THE PRACTICE, AND TRYING TO APPEAR LIKE YOU ARE THE GOOD GUY IN ALL OF THIS BECAUSE YOU "LIBERATED" THEM?

Now being a sensible Human being, the answer should either be "A" or "B". What do you think Yuto does? You have five seconds on the clock starting now…

That's right, HE WENT WITH OPTION C.

When I first watched through this part of the show, I literally had to pause it, and put my computer into sleep mode. If I hadn't, I would've left the show, unsubscribed from Crunchyroll, turned off my computer, unplugged my monitor, and I would've then chucked the monitor out the nearest window available.

This is why I strongly believe that there is no such thing as a "Good Slave Master", that is a fantastical myth. No matter who you are what your personality is, buying a slave directly contributes to the market economy of slave trading, thereby increasing the incentives for merchants to pursue that venture. Having another Human being in bondage is not just a moral problem, but a practical one too. You cannot hate slavery and own slaves.

And to make the matter even more ridiculous, one of the two slaves that Yuto brought falls in love with him and becomes one of the objects in his harem. I'll let you guess which one. Remember, he brought a mother and her very-under age daughter.

(Hint: It isn't the mother)

This is ridiculous, and this trope only exists as comfort food and fetish material for Otakus and Incels who can't seem to get it off with anyone else. This is why I don't think GATE is one of the worst anime, it really isn't. GATE manages to portray slavery correctly as a brutal and inhumane practice no matter what. The objective is to liberate the slaves and free them from bondage. Once again I reiterate that there is no such thing as a good slave master. And to be fair, out of all the far-right wing ultra-nationalistic wank material that GATE is filled with, I was happily surprised when I found out that they got this right at least.

Tyuule manages to be a good character. She actually has a personality. She's cunning and is resourceful. If personality came in a variety of spices, most of the characters in GATE would be flour. But Tyuule manages to be one of the characters that I really feel the writers put a lot of effort into. Despite her position of being a sex slave under Zorzal, she actively tries to seek revenge for years of humiliation, torture, and violation she underwent. Although her plan to bring down the Empire is quite convoluted and doesn't really make sense when there are multiple opportunities for her to escape to Alnus and form a new plan from there, I could look aside from that considering that I do like her character.

The fact that the only character I really like, Tyuule, is a secondary character who is enslaved to the Empire and really only acts in the background of the story, speaks volumes about the quality of GATE itself. However, I am happy that they managed to get her character right.

Now perhaps you are a BDSM fetishist who gets off to slavery and bondage, and if that's your thing then go crazy. Between two consenting adults, that's fine. But if you are actively kidnapping people off the side of the street, I will call the fucking FBI. That isn't alright.

Human Trafficking is a real issue that persists to this day. Even in our modern society, people (and especially children) are kidnapped and sold on the black market. You might think that this debauchery is only restricted to places like Northern Africa, The Middle East, or Southeast Asia. But you'd be wrong. The whole Jeffery Epstein thing proves that this sick and utterly vile act is very prevalent even in First-World Western societies like The United States and the United Kingdom.

And also the Epstein case is related to Pizzagate, which means we live in the sick and twisted universe where Alex Jones was actually correct for once. Man, 2020 just keeps getting worse, doesn't it?

Now I think it is also important to remind people that while this mainly affects Women and especially children of both genders. But this also happens a considerable amount to men. Having a penis doesn't mean you can't get sold into slavery, so please don't think this only happens to women. This is an issue that needs to be cracked down on and eradicated. It is an embarrassment to modern society and a truly horrific process.

To all the weebs out there, yes. Domestic ownership of catgirls IS INDEED slavery.

While I could go all out on a rant about Isekai and anime in the Isekai genre in general, I feel that the topic should be reserved for a future chapter in another serious rant. For now, we focus on the main topic at hand.

Shows like; "How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord"; and; "The Master of Ragnarok" actively lie to Otakus and Incels about what their twisted and morally broken personalities can accomplish had they lived in a fantasy environment rather than Earth. These shows exist so that Otakus and Incels can cuddle up with their bodypillows and drown in the misery that is their life. These shows rest their heads in their laps, petting their heads while softly whispering in their ears, 'Everything is going to be alright. It's not you that's the problem. It's society'. That's the only purpose of these shows, to provide comfort for forever-alones. An Incel's worst fear is personal reflection, and many Isekai comfort shows tell them exactly what they want to hear. One of the best shows to parody this (In my opinion) has to be "Re: Zero" do go watch it if you have a taste in anime or want a funny show to kill time with. It is amazing and it speaks volumes about the state of the entire Isekai genre if you actively pay attention.

Now I won't get too into Isekai, that is a topic for another day as I've said before. But the point I'm trying to make is that scenes where the main character buys another sentient creature as a slave and holds them as their property, only exist because the character is a self-insert. It is supposed to make the targeted audience of forever-alones, Otakus, and incels feel like they too could achieve such a thing if they were sucked into a fantasy world. This is dangerous and is a problem for society at large. If you consume nothing but shows like these, only taking pleasure from them, and refuse to reflect on your own persona, you will become the thing that you hate most about yourself. You will become bitter, angry, sad, you will be undesirable. In a paradoxical manner, only confirming your previously held beliefs. Don't be that guy who falls down that rabbit hole.

Taking an extreme left turn from the previous topic, I'm in no way saying that GATE is somehow a superior anime. Let's be honest, the show is a trainwreck of expectations-killing and eye-rollingly tedious tropes and archetypes that broke my heart when I first watched it. But it has enough substance to it, that I don't lump it into the same category as, "How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord". GATE is a fairly decent show, and that's about the best I can say about it.

Phew. That was a long rant. Not sure where that one came from, but yeah.

Okay so since I have no idea how to end this… Uh, I guess I'll erhm…

I guess i'll bore you to death by reading the most inane and stupid passage I could find. Read this in an oddly condescending voice:

"The missile knows where it is at all times. It knows this because it knows where it isn't. By subtracting where it is from where it isn't, or where it isn't from where it is, whichever is greater, it obtains a difference or deviation. The guidance subsystem uses deviations to generate corrective commands to drive the missile from a position where it is to a position where it isn't and, arriving at a position where it wasn't, it now is. Consequently, the position where it is is now the position that it wasn't, and it follows that the position that it was is now the position that it isn't. In the event that the position that it is in is not the position that it wasn't, the system has acquired a variation; the variation being the difference between where the missile is and where it isn't. If a variation is considered to be a significant factor, it, too, maybe corrected by the GEA. However, the missile must also know where it was. The missile guidance computer scenario works as follows: because a variation has modified some of the information the missile has obtained, it is not sure just where it is, however it is sure where it isn't, within reason, and it knows where it was. It now subtracts where it should be from where it wasn't, or vice versa. And by differentiating this from the algebraic sum of where it shouldn't be and where it was, it is able to obtain the deviation and its variation, which is called error."
