He's Gone

The clocks at Grace Field house all chimed at six o'clock sharp, like always.

Also like always Emma woke up right away and shot up, ready to start the day.

The only thing different was the sharp pain that shot thought her leg, making her wince and almost cry out.

Ah, that's right.

Mama- no, Isabella broke her leg.

She did so upon finding her and Norman trying to go and inspect the outside of the wall.

Still, Emma wasn't gonna let that stop her!

She'd figure something out with the others!

Getting dressed quickly and grabbing her crutches she hobbled towards the main bedroom where her siblings all slept.

Slamming the door open she brightly shouted "Good morning!" at the many children who were getting ready as well.

She grinned when many greeted her back before turning her eyes to a certain spot in the room before they went wide and she felt an overwhelming sense of nausea and despair.

Usually in the exact spot she was looking Norman would be, smiling and talking to some of the younger children crowded around him but he wasn't there.

Instead there was just an empty bed-frame.

Now she remembered.

The night before Norman had been send to get 'adopted', though in reality he was shipped out to die.

He's gone.

Later during breakfast she greeted Ray but turning she found the spot at the table across from her where Norman would always eat empty.

He's gone.

When everyone went to brush their teeth after breakfast, Norman's cup and toothbrush weren't there.

He's gone.

During the daily test he wasn't in his in his seat, answering every question with ease.

He's gone.

Later that day she was walking through one of the many hallways.

"Emma." she jumped when she suddenly heard his voice calling her name.

"Nor-" she turned around but didn't find him there, only Phil and Rossi staring questionably at her.

She felt sick again.

Even if she knew it in her head, her heart still hadn't accepted it yet and her eyes and ears kept searching for him, causing pain every time she was reminded of the cruel reality.

The boy with who she grew up was gone.

The boy who was her best friend was gone.

The boy who she wanted to always stay by her side was gone.

The boy she loved so dearly was gone.

Norman was gone.
