Recap of Fourtris Day 2:
"Yeah. If I didn't, we would still be arguing." I turn around and look at him. "We're stuck on what is most likely an island, Tobias. We need to be a team because anything could be out there."
He grins. "Spoken like a true Dauntless."
"Thank you," I say. Looking him in the eye. I look past him, where something seems like it is hanging from a tree. "Wha-"
He follows my line of sight. "Is that a...backpack?" He says. Tobias climbs the tree. He grabs whatever it is and throws it down to me quietly.
"It's a backpack!" I say. He hops down to the ground. "Careful, Tobias."
He laughs. "Tris, we jump from trains that are like, 4 stories high." He cringes a little.
I chuckle. "I know, but still. Come here, let's see what's in it."
"How do you know there is anything in it?" He says. I laugh, handing it to him. "Does that feel like an empty bag?" He shrugs, unzipping it.
"Alright," He says, pulling something out. "A...package of crackers...an...empty...water bottle...and...throwing knives!" He grins, and we high-five.
A Call For Help- Chapter 4
Darkness. Calming, but unknown. It can be nice in the darkness, but spending too much time in it will be a rude awakening when you come back into the light. Not when, if. That's what it's like with reality, too. Spending too much time in your own fantasy land will make you get used to it, and when the time comes, will you be able to decipher what's real and what's fake?
Will anyone be there to help you?
Fourtris DAY 3- TRIS POV
I sit against a big tree, at least 75 years old. I move my legs into a different position, still looking at my surroundings, thinking about how any of this is even happening. Is it a new serum? I would have remembered if I agreed to test a new serum. This is getting real.
As a Dauntless, we have good survival skills. It's a fact. But as a human...some things, you can only go so long without. Like water. We've been keeping an eye on the lake, which doesn't seem that dangerous. My body wants me to drink the water, but my mind is telling me otherwise. There is really no way to tell if it might be poisoned or unhealthy. Tobias taught me how to purify water, but we don't have the right ingredients. It's been three days.
Three.
Whole.
Days.
I should be thankful that we got some items, and I am, it's just that I can't help but think why the water bottle couldn't have been filled? And that brings up a whole different subject- how did the bag get there? Are we being watched? If so, why? How did we get here? Why are we here? Is there anyone else? Are they a threat? How long will we be here?
I sigh. That thinking isn't going to get me anywhere. I suddenly get an idea. I silently motion to Tobias, who is a few yards away. He gets up, and walks over to me, holding a giant stick.
"What is that…?"
"A walking stick." He responds, nonchalantly.
I laugh a little. "Yes, Tobias. The motion of moving your left foot, and then your right...the problem that has stumped Erudite's greatest minds." He smirks, flipping it over.
The other side is sharp. "It doubles as a spear, smarty-pants."
I curtsy. "I will take that as a compliment." Pointing to the stick again, I say, "Wouldn't you rather stick to the knives, though?"
Tobias shrugs. "So anyway, what's up?" He asks, flipping the stick back over.
"Well, I was thinking and-"
"Uh oh."
I roll my eyes at him. "I was thinking, we should maybe explore a little, get to know the area, see what's around here?" I say, and he nods.
"Yeah," He says, "I think that would be smart." He packs everything up, -which wasn't very much- and swings the bag onto his back. I look down at the water bottle at my feet, the shiny black metal standing out against the green and brown of the earth below us. Hmm, I think. Is the color a coincidence? I shake my head, picking the bottle up.
I look at Tobias. "Ready?" He says. Looking back down at the bottle that is still in my hand, I make a last-minute decision. "Hold on."
I run over to the lake, which is only about three yards away. I find a good spot, and fill it up, jogging back to Tobias. "Just in case." He nods, taking my hand. We begin our adventure.
THREE HOURS LATER- LOCATION UNKNOWN
As a Dauntless member, I know I shouldn't be, but I am tired. So tired. And thirsty. Tobias stops, sighing. "Tris, we need to drink it. Let me try some, and if I'm okay, then we know it's safe." I move the bottle out of his reach. "How is that fair?" He gives me his instructor face.
Taking the water, he tries a sip.
After at least thirty minutes of sitting, waiting, and talking, Tobias tells me he thinks it's safe.
"Yes!" I say, taking a nice long gulp of it. I recover from my dehydrated state, and we continue on our journey, feeling a bit better.
SUNSET- LOCATION UNKNOWN
I look at Tobias. "It's gonna get dark soon. Think we should stop for a bit?" He nods.
We set up by a big tree, and Tobias finds three sticks, making an arrow pointing to the direction we came. Smart, I think. Easily destroyable, blends in. I get up from my spot on the ground, looking around.
There is a little hill nearby. "Tobias, I'm gonna climb that hill to get a better vantage point! I'll be right back!" I hear an 'Okay!' over my shoulder, and I start to climb.
When I get to the top, I look at the sky.
The sun is setting the same way that Tobias's stick arrow is pointing, so we must have come from the west. I look back down to Tobias, getting ready to walk back to him when something else catches my eye.
I know what my face looks like right now: brows knit together in confusion, eyes curious.
"Tobias!" I motion him over to me, and a look of panic momentarily crosses his face, but almost instantly goes away when he doesn't see any threats. He jogs over.
"Yeah?" I point to the ground, a few feet away. "That can't be real." He says, shocked.
I'll tell you one thing; The two sets of footprints that I see in the dirt look real as hell to me.
Reviews are greatly appreciated! :)
