Prologue: 0
It's the first step. The first step is the most important step of them all. The start. The basic.
It's a bright morning outside. It's still early, sun just slightly above the horizon and moon still in the sky, but it's bright nevertheless. The road has come to life as the sun rises. Workers and students leaving their abode for a purpose, shops opening, preparing for the day.
And today is an exciting day for Matsuyuki Ume; this will be the day she step into Yuuei High School. This will be another step closer to her goal. To become a hero. She has put her uniform on, hoping it looks neat and it's not wrinkled or folded or worse, backwards. Bag slung on shoulder, she now waits for the sound of her door unlocked.
"Uumee," calls a raspy, lazy male voice behind the door; her caregiver. "Are you ready?"
"I'm ready!" Answers Ume, excited.
"Then maybe I shouldn't open the door..." he says.
"But I have school?"
"I'm just kidding." She hears the door unlocks with a click and grins. She stands up from sitting on her bed, pats her skirt, wiggles her toes in her shoes - are these the right socks, did she put them correctly? - and feels her way to the door. When she feels the round doorknob, she turns it and pushed the door open, thick smell of alcohol hits her nose. It's alright though, Ume is used to it.
"Here she is, the Yuuei student." The caregiver says, accompanied by his lazy claps. "Are you excited?"
"Very!" Ume nods excitedly.
"But you're not ready yet." He hums. Then she hears a light, thin fabric whipped out. "Turn around."
Ume did as her caregiver says, and soon she feels her hair being combed, lifted near the top and tied with a bow. It's a slow process, with her caregiver having injured hands that limits his efficiency. Still, he insisted to tie her hair, saying that it was fun. Quite a reasoning.
"Do you think I'll be able to make friends?" Ume asks.
"You have to. Or else you won't have anything to tell." The caregiver Answers.
"What if they make fun of me?"
"You can freeze them."
"I'm not sure the school would allow that."
"That sucks." The caregiver says. "There we go, perfect." He may say that, but Ume could feel that it's a bit off to her left, some strands are left behind, and there's several tight tugs on her head, indicating that her hair may have been tangled up in the process. She has short hair, tie it and the tip reaches the base of her head. But Ume says nothing. She knew her caregiver did his best.
"Am I ready now?" Ume turns around once again.
"Almost." The caregiver moves away for a short moment, then returns, guiding her right hand and placing a familiar leather grip.
"Get going now. Wouldn't want to be late." He says.
"Nope!" She giggles. "I'll be going, then!"
Title from 'Your Eyes Tell' by BTS
Hello! My name is Lily and 'Your Eyes Tell' will be my first ever published story! This story is inspired by user justapaprica's wonderful story, 'Soulmate'! If you haven't, please give that story a read!
Maybe you already know, but I had previously already published this book! But I decided to scrap it because it was a decision I made impulsively. I didn't plan out the characters, her personality, how they will interact with each other, the plot, etc. Now it returns with a proper story to tell! I hope you will enjoy it, and feedback is always appreciated.
I would like to clarify that I have little knowledge regarding blindness. I tried my best to do my research and make it realistic as much as possible. But there may be things that would be incorrect, or clash with real life blindness for plot's sake. Allow me to apologize in advance.
Thank you and once again, I hope you enjoy!
