Subaru Natsuki had been told to leave the house.
It was nothing drastic as being kicked out, but his father, Kenichi, insisted that he leave the house for a couple of hours. Naoko, his mother, was in full agreement and they had forbidden him to enter the house before half past seven in the afternoon. He had to be implemented back into society somehow, and this was the only answer that his parents could find.
Of course, being a minor, Subaru obeyed his parents wishes, deciding to see the new anime movie that entered the cinema's. He would have waited until he could have watched it illegally on his computer, but he saw no reason to delay this viewing if he was to be forced to 'mingle' with society. The movie lasted a good two hours and the plot was as excellent as the boy expected, the characters well-fleshed out- enough so to bring tears to his 'scary' eyes.
It was quarter past seven, and after walking around the streets and watching the river that flowed past his twin, Subaru had only five minutes to burn until half past seven. It took around five minutes to reach his parents house from where the centre of the country town where his family resided in. So, thus, the boy killed those last few minutes in the convenience store, where he purchased a cup of Tonkotsu Noodles and some corn chips to have for lunch tomorrow.
Subaru doubted that his parents wouldn't have saved some dinner for him, so he planned for another day of gaming that would surely come. He payed with four hundred yen coins, gaining six ten yen coins as his change. The boy didn't make conversation, but put the effort to have smile when the cashier gave him the receipt.
He only walked to the sidewalks before Subaru suddenly stopped, rubbing his eyes with his right hand. His vision blurred to the point of where he couldn't see anything. "Ah. I really should stop playing those rpg's so late at night," The boy possessed the knowledge that a road laid just a metre ahead, didn't move from this spot, having heard stories of teenagers being hit by incoming traffic. The best he could hope for was a bump on the shoulder from a pedestrian in his state.
"Damn, its not clearing up whatsoever," Subaru's tone was hard, his frustration at his eyesight clear. He only blinked once, but he completely disappeared from the street. Within minutes, the police would be called and the cashier would claim that he dissipated. It would be considered one of the most mysterious disappearances within the twenty-first century.
Once Subaru opened his eyes, he found that he was not on the quiet streets of his small country town, but instead found that he stood in front of busy intersection where hundreds, if not thousands of people passed him hurriedly. Instead of the darkness that night had reduced the visibility of the streets, the intersection was was bright, as if it was day time.
Could it be-
"-That I've been summoned to another world!" The boy exclaimed in excitement, looking towards the blue sky that didn't have a cloud in sight. He was thoroughly ignored and was immediately written off as a crazy person by anyone near him.
Only now, did he realise that his surroundings were of that of a medieval city. Carriages drawn by large reptiles proudly ran at speeds that Subaru thought was impossible for a territorial creature. The people around him were either human or had animalistic features upon their person.
Ding!
"Huh, is that my phone." Subaru, like all teenagers his own age, possessed his own phone, but unlike his peers, who possessed the newest smart phones, the boy however owned a old, but reliable flip phone. This brand of phone only possessed the options to call, text ad take a picture- it had no other function.
So why?

"Is this the power I was given when I was summoned here?" The boy pondered, but having read countless isekai manga, knew this to be true. After all, he was the protagonist. Nodding his head, walked to the nearest alleyway, to be away from the crowded streets to test out his ability. He alleyway, unlike the streets, was quiet and the only noise that was heard was that of the street. He pressed the request button in his flip phone and waited.
The screen on his phone, showed a blue shooting star, gleaming across the sky as it fell. It suddenly turned red, Subaru didn't know if that was good or bad, but he remembered that the summon had to be at least a four star character.
That had to be good.

Jean- Five Star
Do you wish to summon Jean?
[Y] | [N]
Subaru didn't hesitate for a moment, moving his cursor to click on the 'yes' option. He seriously wanted to summon this character, not only for his own protection, but for some much needed company. This world, whilst awesome, was undoubtedly lonely for a newcomer such as himself, he didn't know anyone and no one knew him.
A small, blue line left his phone, as if a line of wool being pulled from the ball that it was tied to. Slowly, the blue line spilt into six seperate lines, morphing into a head, two legs, a torso and two arms. The blue body flash white and shattered, as of a snake shedding its skin, revealing the five star character that he had obtained.
Jean was a beautiful woman, Subaru noticed, her dirty blonde long and tide into a long ponytail. She was tall for a woman, being around the boy's own height, her blue eyes stared at him with mild interest. She wore a white jumpsuit that was tight around her ample breast and ass, a golden diamond pattern were descending down the sides of her long legs. She had golden tailed cloak that had a dark blue underlining, her outfit was complete with an iron sword at her waist. She was the most beautiful woman he had every seen.
Suddenly, unexpectedly, she bowed. It wasn't a slight bow that students gave their seniors, but a full on bow that showed a massive amount of respect. "Good evening, Master." She greeted once her bow was completed and when her back was straight. After a brief pause, her blue eyes glanced over him quickly, she continued. "I am Jean, Grandmaster of the Knights of Favonius. My sword is yours to command."
Her introduction was short and held a sense of professionalism that could be compared to a hardcore salaryman. Subaru instinctively knew that she had pledge an undying loyalty towards him. If this was a manga, a fictional story, then the boy would smile calmly, with an air of confidence that only a protagonist could possess and say an awesome one-liner that would hook the reader.
"H-hey, there's no need to be so formal. Please call me Subaru."
However, this was no manga and this was reality. In this reality that holds back even the most powerful of beings, Subaru was a loser. A social reclusive that had to be forced to leave the house and greet society. He was an below average boy- a hikikomori with neither friends nor mentors outside of his games. He has had little experience with the opposite genders, especially with someone so beautiful. He was a little embarrassed by the term she had used to describe their relationship.
"Of course... Subaru," Jean looked somewhat confused, but a small smile played on her red lips, showing her satisfaction. Subaru knew that this was brief break in her professional facade, but instantly, as if she had realised her mistake, her smile faded and she bowed one more. The pair were silent, as if they couldn't figure out what to say.
"Ma- Subaru, have you per chance, checked my status?"
"Status? You have one of those?" Subaru was lost, this was all new and he wouldn't have openly admitted it, but he was a little overwhelmed. This new environment, a power that relied on chance instead of skill and his clear lack of understanding his situation. These were all problems that he needed to overcome. But he was the protagonist, he'll overcome those as easily as breathing.
"Of course, your device can analyse the status of all that are seen through its camera. Although, you won't be able to see the skills of those who aren't your summons." Jean gave a brief, but informative explanation of what his phone could now do.
"Oh, I thought this was just an ordinary phone." It is- or had been, whatever his ability had done to it, the boys flip phone was no longer the ordinary one he had before his summoning. Opening the camera function, Subaru pointed it at his the woman, who neither smiled or posed like he had expected. She stood perfectly still, hands behind her back, underneath her golden cloak.

Subaru was speechless, staring at his flip phone for a few moments before pocketing with such haste that most would think the phone was contaminated with some foreign disease. Jean was strong, extraordinarily so with her low level. "Subaru... are you perhaps disappointed in my status," despite her professionalism, the knight seemed almost seemed disappointed in herself.
"N-no. No! You're just way too strong- it surprised me, that's all."
"I'm glad," Jean smiled. Hers was a pretty smile that complimented her beautiful face.
The calm atmosphere didn't last long.
"Hey, hey, hey- look what we have here." A voice that was unfamiliar to Subaru echoed throughout the alley. It echoed across the brick walls and rebounded in the boys ears. The voice continued with his mocking tone, "Looks like you guys are new to town, should we help them out?" Subaru saw three men, one incredible short, another tall and big, whilst the obvious leader was lanky and of average height.
"Sure we could, for a price of course," the short one spoke, an eager smile n his lips. Jean took a couple of steps, stopping just halfway between them and Subaru. She had a hand on her hilt, her blue eyes narrowed slight.
"Please leave. I wish you no harm," despite her calm tone, the threat was clear. These thugs would be harmed if the even considered attacking them. She was a knight and her ATK was considerably high for her low level. The thugs looked intimidated by Jeans clam and relaxed posture, Subaru knew that they had began to have second thoughts.
"Make way!" A small child, around fifteen at the most, ran down the alley, breaking past the small blockade that the thugs had made. She ran past with surprising grace and speed, breaking the tense atmosphere before jumping past the wall that made the dead-end of the alley. Silence echoed across the alleyway before the lanky leader pulled back his fist and trued to punch Jean's face.
He was slow, the woman leaning to the side to dodge before utilising her elbow to deal an impressive hit to his jaw. He fell limp and unconscious, like a sack of potatoes. The next man, the tallest one, moving with grace he looked like he lacked and with a knife he pulled for gods-know-where, tried to stab the Knight. Jean, using her long legs, kicked him in the crouch, a resounding screeched echoed throughout the alley before he fell limply to the ground.
The shortest one didn't even make it to an attack rang, before being kicked at the side of is head and was sent flying into a brick wall with a loud thud. "Are you okay, Subaru?" Jean asked as she looked back towards him, her blue eyes showing a hint of embarrassment and some concern. Nodding, his voice not working properly, Subaru watched the Knight walk away from the carnage she had caused.

Jean has grown considerably from just five levels, possessing monstrous stats for her low (but recently improved) level. Smiling, Subaru pocketed the phone
"Hey, what do think you're doing!" A voice, this time feminine in nature, held an accusing tone, instantly, with speed that Jean didn't possess before, pulled her Iron Longsword from its sheath. The iron blade glistened in the sun, showing a beauty of nature that Subaru had never seen before.
"Puck!" The voice shrieked, a small cat-like creature that floated in the air appeared as if from thin air. Instantly, three large icicles appears in front of the owner of the voice. Moving with speed and determination, Subaru appeared in the forefront of incoming mayhem, only now noticing that the voice was a young woman, who possessed silver hair and amethyst eyes. This woman was exceptionally beautiful, enough so to rival Jean.
"Hey, lets just stop this nonsense. Jean, please put that sword away." He was scared, afraid that the woman would add three new holes into his body. But Subaru is the protagonist and he shouldn't be killed so soon. Jean looked hesitant, before she sighed and sheathed her blade. The woman calmed down visible and the icicles shattered and dissipated into the air. "I apologise for my lack of self-control, Subaru and...," the knight bowed, her face looking towards the boy and the mystery woman.
"I think they want you to introduce yourself."
"Huh? Me?" The woman pointed to herself, looking towards the floating cat with visible confusion. "Well, I'm... Satella, just Satella."
"You have bad taste," the floating cat spoke, his tone deadpanned and a soft sigh left his small lips as he looked towards the silver haired girl.
"A pretty name for a pretty face!" Subaru cheered, much to the shock and confusion of the girl "Hello Satella, I'm Subaru Natsuki. Not only am I broke, but I'm totally clueless too!" He struck a pose, this was his moment to shine! The woman laughed lightly, most likely amused by his childish behaviour. Jean, a woman her has most likely saved him from an awful mugging, stepped forward, bowing elegantly. "I'm Jean, Subaru's protector."
"Hey, since when did I need protecting!" He complained, his pride hurt by the knights comment. He didn't need to protecting, he was the protagonist after all.
"Since you stood helpless by whilst I dealt with these dangerous thugs," her tone, like always, was professional, but the small smirk on her face showed that she was jesting. Or at least, half-joking, that may seem more like the Jean he knew. Satella nodded her head in understand, finally acknowledging the situation that they had been put through.
"I'm Puck- this girls spirit contract." The floating cat spoke, drifting effortlessly toward the boy. The spirit seem far to happy about thus situation, as of he was proud of something.
"Good to met you, Puck." Subaru shook the cats small paw, the fur soft and oddly satisfying. He couldn't help but smile in pure bliss. His feeling of being overwhelmed has been long forgotten of his first interactions with the people of this world. Jean didn't count, because he was a summoned character.
"Wow, this is the first time I've seen someone touch a spirit so casually.' Satella exclaimed in amazement, before shaking her head to dispel such wonder from her childish expression. "Anyways, have you seen a blonde girl go past here?"
"Was she in peasant attire, Satella?" Jean spoke, her voice calm but had some suspicion in it. As if she was wary of what was to come. Subaru nodded, having seen such a girl pass through before spy the silver haired woman showed up. The boy didn't know why Jean was so suspicious about it though.
"Yes! That's exactly the girl I'm looking for!"
"If I may, why are you looking for such a girl?" Jean's tone was as cod as Satella's icicles, her eyes narrowed and her hand of her swords hilt. It was obvious that the knight didn't trust her, probably for the fact that she had pointe literal icicle the size of a small beachball at him, this endangering his safety.
"Um, its kind of embarrassing, but that girl stole something very important to me."
"What did she steal- hopefully not your purse."
"Purse?" Satella looked confused but shook her head childishly, as if she was mentally younger than what her mature appearance suggested. "I'm sorry, but I can't say."
"Then we ca-" the knight was about to decline the offer to help Satella out, clearly with the boys safety at the forefront of her mind. However, Subaru pointed a finger at both himself and Jean and exclaimed in a boisterous voice. "We'll help you out! After all, its most goal to one good deed per day." Subaru city conveniently missed Jean's furious glared, the frustration and concern for his safety clear within those blue orbs,
"Really! Are you sure?"
"Of course we're sure!" Subaru confirmed, smiling happily.
"Is this okay, Puck?" Satella looked to the floating cat for his acceptance, who waved his hand in a lazy manner as he sighed deeply, effortlessly drifting in the air.
"Sure, the more meat shields between you, the better, I say."
"Is really that all I'm good for!" The boy exclaimed, frustrated at the total disregard for his well-being. With a hearty laugh leaving Satella's and Puck's lips, the group of four was off, wandering around to find the mystery artefact that was stolen.
This would also be the start for Subaru's suffering- as he tries to change fate.
