Chapter 108: Epilogue

A year had passed and in that time, the Lakewood heroes had gone on many adventures together and they have grown much stronger. Ko learned to accept TKo as a part of himself, Carol and Mr. Gar had finally gotten married and Enid and Red Action got married soon after. life was great for the heroes. Enid, Nebula,and Rad had finally graduated with their class and Enid had decided to go to Witch College while Rad had to leave to lead the Planet X Space Force. Before Rad had to leave, he had something special planned for Nebula.

Rad brought Nebula to a picnic on a ledge that overlooked a waterfall from when they all went hiking. Once they were finished with their picnic, Rad was chasing Nebula playfully down the hill. "Hey! Get back here!" Rad called playfully as Nebula laughed while she running."You can't catch me!" She laughed and Rad launched himself onto Nebula from behind to tackled her to the ground. They rolled down the hill laughing as Rad held her in his arms. He landed where she was on the bottom and he was on top of her. "Now I got ya!" he said triumphantly as Nebula looked at him as she blushed madly. They then stared at each other for a moment. Rad leaned down and kissed her head before he laid next to her on the grass.

"This is nice" she sighed happily. "Yeah" Rad said happily with a sigh. "I wish we could stay like this forever, you know?" she said with a soft smile. "Yeah?" he asked as he blushed and put a hand on one of his closed pockets

Nebula smiled softly as she watched the clouds go by and the wind blew softly as it ruffled some of her hair. Rad gulped and turned on his side to face Nebula. He then kissed her cheek. "Rad? What's going on?" Nebula asked with a laugh as he stared at her as seriously as he could with a blush. Rad moved to kneel on the ground in front of her and Nebula wrapped her arms around his neck. "Whatcha doin?" she asked and Rad reached into one of his pockets and pulled out an intricate silver ring with a shining blue jewel. Nebula gasped as Rad cleared his throat.

"Nebula, I've probably said it a million times now, but I love you more than life itself and you mean the galaxy to me. Will you remain to fight with me until the end? You're my best friend and I don't ever want to imagine a future without you. When we first met, I was mesmerized by how far you would go to help out a friend. After we first broke up, I felt empty and lost without you and I realized that all I really wanted was to spend the rest of my life with you. You inspire me to be not only a better person, but to also be a better hero. If I had a star for every time I thought of you, I would have the universe in my hand and my love for you only grows as each day passes. I feel like meeting you was fate and I vow that I will love you until I die, and if there is life after that, I'll still love you" Rad began and Nebula began to tear up. Rad stood up and helped her stand with him. "If I'm gonna do this, I wanna do it right" he said and he knelt down on one knee before her.

"Nebula, my love, my life, my galaxy, will you continue to fight by my side as not just my best friend and life partner, but as my wife?" he asked and Nebula put her free hand over her mouth as she gasped. "Nebula, will you marry me?" he asked and Nebula nodded happily as she wiped away her tears that had begun to fall. "So is that a yes?" Rad asked smugly and Nebula pounced onto him. "Of course it does you dodo head" she laughed and Rad reached for her left hand and slipped the ring onto her ring finger. Rad wrapped her legs around his waist and he stood up. Nebula took his face in her hands and Rad felt the metal of the ring against his cheek. She pulled him in for a kiss and once they pulled away, they rested their foreheads together. "I love you" they said in unison. They smiled as they let out a laugh and shared a quick kiss. Rad set Nebula down and her hands went to his shoulders.

He wrapped his arms around her back and they held each other in comfortable silence. "I'm gonna miss you" Nebula said solemnly as she laid her head on Rad's shoulder. Rad put his head on top of hers and he ran a hand up and down her back soothingly.

"I know... I'm gonna miss you too. But at least I can go into whatever gets thrown at me knowing that I have you as my future wife. If and when things get tough, I can look forward to our future together. Just imagine it, we're happily married, we have a cat café and maybe even a kid or two" Rad said dreamily and Nebula smiled softly.

"And maybe we'll have a cat, or two, or maybe more. I know you would love that" she said and Rad held her closer.

The next day, after she and everyone said their goodbyes to Rad, Nebula drove to Neo Riot City. When she got there, she saw Bianca fighting bad guys in an alleyway near the entrance gate. She saw Bianca freeze their hands together and then look to Nebula.

"Back to where it all began I see?"Nebula commented. "What can I say, this world will always need heroes" Bianca shrugged. A group of police then arrived and took the criminals away.

"So, I heard about your's and Rad's engagement, congratulations sweetie!" Bianca said as she admired the ring on Nebula's finger. "Thanks mom! So, you ready to go to lunch?" she responded and Bianca put an arm around Nebula's shoulders. They females chatted about Nebula's future as they walked into the city.

I'm glad that things have gone back to normal" Bianca said as people waved to them. "Me too" Nebula said as they waved back. "Although, sometimes I can't help but wonder if things didn't turn out like they did" Bianca paused. Nebula stopped and turned to face her as she spoke. "What do you mean?" Nebula asked. "Well you know..." she began as she looked to the bright and clear blue sky.

"What might have been?"

Wow, I really can't believe that this is the final chapter of 'What Might Have Been' and that it has been 2 years to this day since I started this book!
