RWBY – The Adorkable Knight
Glad to see you here, reading another chapter for the rewrite of the Determined Knight. Anyway, I want to be blunt here, there haven't been that many changes, only a few minor things with the conversation between Ozpin and Ruby, along with a tiny change between Weiss and Port.
Harem for this story! This will NOT be changed!
Jaune x Saphron - Arcest
Jaune x Terra Cotta - Arcotta
Jaune x Pyrrha - Arkos
Jaune x Ruby - Lancaster
Jaune x Yang - Dragon Slayer
Jaune x Blake - Knightshade
Jaune x Weiss - White Knight
Jaune x Glynda - Excalibur
Please have a look on my profile for the challenges that I have made for anyone who is interested in having a go at them, and hopefully, the idea of them is different from the other crossovers of those types, from the way I have the ideas planned out or from the pairings themselves. There is one Naruto x RWBY crossover challenge, along with a Naruto x Bakugan crossover, and then there is a Naruto x High School DxD Crossover.
If you are more interested in Harry Potter, then I do have a fanfiction challenge for that Fandom as well. No crossovers for that challenge.
At one point in the future if I feel up to it, I might have a go at my own challenges, however, that will be a while to come considering that I have so much on my plate already and I am not quiet ready to come back to fanfiction writing full time at the moment. Just a few updates every now and again while I am slowly working on new chapters.
Chapter 5 - First Day of Classes - I
"WAKEY WAKEY FEARLESS LEADER!"
"Ahh!"
Jaune awoke from his enjoyable sleep rather forcedly as he jerked awake with a yelp from the sudden noise invading his ears. He wearily opened his eyes and saw that his new partner Nora was basically stradling his waist and her face was so close to his, they were basically nearly nose to nose and her turquoise eyes were shining with energy rarely seen with people in the morning.
"Nora. Please get off him." A more quite voice called out from beside him, looking over slightly, he saw Ren dressed in the new uniform, which in Jaune's opinion didn't look that bad, considering some of the uniforms that he saw back home and while he was in Argus.
Nora giggled nervously, rubbing the back of her head sheepishly, seemingly unaffected by the position that she was in and zipped over and was somehow next to Ren in a split second. Jaune decided to not even ask, fearing that he would lose some sanity regarding the hyper orangette.
"Good morning to you too." Jaune mumbled out to the duo, before sitting up right and giving a nice long stretch along with a yawn escaping his mouth as he did so, "What time is it?" He asked groggily, sometimes wishing he was more of a morning person. He took note of how the curtains were undone fully so he could see the morning sky from outside the windows.
"It is around seven thirty. You managed to sleep through your alarm along with the additional snooze time. It was then Nora woke up and turned it off and tried to shake you awake... you also slept through that." Ren said calmly, not even bothered by the fact that the alarm he set near full blast went on for a couple of minutes.
Jaune rubbed the back of his head, an embarrassed smile on his face as he did so, "Sorry. Yesterday must have taken it out of me more than I realised." Jaune mumbled out, an embarrassed blush on his cheeks as he looked down towards his bed, seeing as how the rather comfortable blanket was messily drapped over himself. Hauling himself out of bed he then started to rumage through his belongings to find some toiletries.
"That is reasonable. Yesterday was rather hectic." Ren simply stated, giving a small nod before turning his attention to Nora, who was seemingly staring at nothing on the ceiling, "Come on Nora, let's give him some privacy." He said, grabbing her by the shoulders and lightly pushing her away from Jaune and the set of beds, he then turned around, "Oh, and the uniform is in one of the compartments found along a small compartment on the base of the bed." He advised, before gently guiding Nora away from Jaune's position.
"Thanks." He spoke out, hoping that Ren heard from where he currently was. He placed his rather childish toothbrush and a box of mild mint toothpaste on the bed. He then blinked and looked at the wooden base of the bed and seeing a small outline of a drawer, 'Huh, didn't see that before.' He thought to himself, before lightly pulling open the drawer and seeing five fresh sets of the male uniform for Beacon, 'I wonder if the drawer has a recognition system in it. There is no way that the staff guessed the bedding arrangements.' He thought to himself in a small amount of trepidation and curiosity.
Shaking his head clear of those thoughts, he took a fresh pair of the academy uniform and prepared to get changed. However, before he could even begin, Nora's voice called out rather loudly making him wince lightly at the sheer volume the girl could produce.
"Fearless leader! We are going to the cafeteria for breakfast, we will see you there!" Her excited and bubbly voice managed to bring a small smile to his face, she reminded him so much of his youngest sister who was an infinte bundle of energy.
Although, his youngest sister definately didn't have a massive hammer nor was a little... 'loose' in the brain.
"Alright then!" He called back out, he was met with the sound of a small chuckle and the distinct noise of the dorm room opening and then closing shortly afterwards. He shook his head once again, a small smile still on his face, 'She is going to be something to deal with. Hopefully she isn't a trouble maker... although I am not confident in that.' He thought to himself before he started changing into his uniform with no other interuptions.
Jaune was found admiring himself in the mirror in the bathroom after getting changed in his new uniform and brushing his teeth for a few minutes, leaving them sparkling white, he took note that he felt oddly comfortable in the uniform even though it looked rather discomforting with the fabric, but he was quite surprised when he felt silk and linen. It felt breathable and his body didn't feel like it was being constricted by a boa constrictor.
'I must say, I look dashing in a suit.' He thought to himself, fixing it up ever so slightly. It was one of the first times he has worn anything formal, and his first time wearing a tie, while the tie may be uncomfortable as he nearly chocked himself with it by accident, the suit just felt right on him.
The Beacon Academy uniform consisted of a silk black suit lined with gold coming from the collar bone area down to the naval area with gold buttons in the middle, accompanied by a blue vest and a white shirt worn underneath with a red tie as the accessory. From what Jaune understood was that students were able to modify their clothing to make it more personalised for themself, if what the note was correct, then he would try out the proper uniform before changing it slightly.
Quickly getting his scroll out of his dress pants pocket, he turned it on and nearly yelped in surprise when he saw that it was nearing eight in the morning, 'I spent twenty minutes getting ready!' He thought to himself wildly, before quickly pocketing his scroll and rushing out of the bathroom his team shared, he didn't mean to keep his team waiting for that long.
As soon as he burst out the door, he was suddenly met with one of his teammates, which happened to be Pyrrha Nikos, who was waiting by his bed and had a rather concerned look on her face as she did so. Jaune had to take a double take when he saw her for the first time in the Academy uniform. She wore a white shirt underneath a female version of the suit and a tan coloured vest, along with wearing black stockings underneath her skirt to make her feel more comfortable with the uncomfortable length of the skirt. Her hair was done up once again and still had the circlet around, giving her a little more flair.
"Oh, uh, hello." Pyrrha greeted out awkwardly, not really expecting Jaune to come rushing out of the bathroom in a frantic manor.
"Morning Pyrrha." Jaune greeted out with an embarrassed smile on his face and gave a small wave, "What are you doing here, I thought you were already out?" He questioned, not having seen Pyrrha at all when he first woke up.
She gave a sheepish smile and closed her eyes and tried to prevent an embarrassed flush appear on her face, "Well, we were worried when you took around twenty minutes to get changed, so I came back to see if something was wrong." She said rather awkwardly, now knowing how ridiculous it sounded for a female to be waiting for a male to finish changing.
"Oh, nothing was wrong. Just... taking everything in, along with getting lost with how much I like the feeling of the uniform." Jaune said with a small smile on his face and his blue eyes twinkling lightly.
"I see." Pyrrha nodded her head, understanding that things like this can take a while to settle in, along with having different emotions running through your head as you were doing so. Sadly, she was all to used to the feeling with her fame, "While I don't mind it, it feels rather constricting for myself." Pyrrha mentioned, briefly glancing down at her chest when she mentioned constricting, before quickly bringing her gaze back up at Jaune and hopped he didn't see her looking at her chest like that.
Thankfully he didn't, he was busy making sure he had everything for the first classes.
"Right." He said offhandedly, taking his weapon and shield and carrying it with little difficulty as they weren't active and placing his armour ontop of his worn clothing as it would be easier to carry it that way, "Well, I need to go to my locker... if I am not mistaken should be on the way to the cafeteria." Jaune said, hoping that his rather terrible sense of direction or map reading wasn't off.
"I'll join you... oh, uh I need to place something in my locker as well." Pyrrha said rather quickly and timidly after exclaiming the first part of her statement, making her shuffle with an embarrassed blush on her face.
Jaune blinked for a moment, wondering Pyrrha had such a quick tone and personality change. She went from confident to rather meek within a split second, "Righto, let's go." He announced, making his way towards the dorm room door, and opening it and standing by, "Ladies first." He said, out of a force of habit and some... teachings in how to treat a girl in certain moments by his sisters when he was younger.
Pyrrha giggled lightly at what he was doing, "Thank you, good sir." She said softly and walked through the door, before Jaune quickly followed after and closing the door behind him, with a small click being heard afterwards, signifying that the door was now locked.
After dropping his weapons and armour into the locker, the same one he had before the initiation and Pyrrha placed something within hers, they now found themselves in the cafeteria, where they found Ren and Nora on one of the off middle sections of the table, one that could easily fit about nine people on the table, it also happened to be the same one that they used last night with team RWBY.
'Guessing we have claimed this one along with team RWBY.' He thought to himself idly. After going to the very short line and waiting for a few minutes, Jaune and Pyrrha got thier breakfast to start of the day before thier long day of classes... hopefully it won't be too bad on the first day.
Once they sat down at the table, he was instantly pulled in to one of the many eccentric conversations of his partner Nora, "So Jaune, did you encounter any insect Grimm while getting changed!? Oh, maybe you helped a damsel in distress? What was it? Tell me!" She said excitedly, Jaune looked at her like she was some foreign lifeform.
"Didn't Pyrrha say you were getting worried that I was taking too long getting changed?" He questioned with confusion clear in his tone as he looked to the other members of his team, seeing them both give deadpanned looks towards the exciteable orangette, who was now slurping down pancakes and still talking clearly somehow. He shivered lightly, 'Who or WHAT have I got for a partner.' He thought to himself, gulping lightly, now he knew he was screwed when it came to keeping Nora to a controllable level.
Nora blinked for a second, then her turquoise eyes dulled for a moment, "Oh yeah... that was the reason." She said, in an almost diappointed tone.
"Please forgive her, she is rather eccentric and can easily forget most things." Ren said calmly, however, the tiniest hint of a smirk could be seen on his lips as he turned his head lightly and saw Nora giving him a pouty glare.
"No harm done. I just hope you aren't like that in class Nora, I don't need my partner getting in trouble or getting the team in trouble." Jaune said, although his tone changed from light to very playful as he looked towards Nora and saw her childishly sticking her tongue out at him.
With that, the team delved into thier breakfast, while cafeteria food may not have the best reputation in the populace, the one at Beacon proved to be very different, having a large range of choices to make just for breakfast itself, and it was actually tasty.
Ren was having a small stack of pancakes that had maple syrup dressed over it with a plain muffin on the side with green tea as his drink, Nora had a massive stack of pancakes which got obliterated in seconds, leaving behind trails of maple syrup on the table and some around her mouth, Pyrrha had scrambled eggs, bacon and a slice of french toast with a light layer of butter and Jaune had some bananna and cinnamon porridge which was lukewarm and orange juice for his drink.
As the team was enjoying thier breakfast in a comfortable silence, it was starting to get closer for thier very first class at Beacon Academy, and they were conflicted between being nervous and excited. They were about to meet thier new teachers who they have no idea about and having classmates that they wouldn't know and only have caught small glimpses of.
"Ahh. That hit the spot." Jaune sighed out as he pushed his empty bowl closer to the middle of the table, patting his belly lightly and enjoying the lingering after taste of the bananna and cinnamon porridge.
"Mhm, it was lovely." Pyrrha commented, taking out a small red napkin from her skirt pocket and dabbed it lightly over her mouth, getting rid of any mess that may have found its way onto her face.
"It was nice. Better than most places, and this tea is nice as well, not the best, but manageable." Ren said, lightly complaining about the slight bitterness the tea held. Jaune had the feeling that Ren loved his tea and had very high expectations for the drink.
It was an odd silence, and had Jaune thinking of where the exciteable Nora was, he glanced around the large room to find a glimpse of his partner, already concerned that she was off making trouble somewhere.
"If you are looking for Nora, she has taken all the used dishes and cups back to the kitchen staff." Ren commented, seeing the look of concern set itself onto Jaune's face.
Jaune blinked for a second and looked back down at the table, and indeed it seemed that Nora managed to snag away every dirty item on the table and whisked away to the kitchen staff, 'How does she move that quickly? Is it her semblance or something?' Jaune thought to himself in confusion, unable to understand how the loud and rather brightly coloured Nora could move so quickly without himself seeing her, even if she was directly in front of him.
"Someone was looking for me?" A sudden voice boomed behind Jaune, which made him yelp and jump from his place slightly, he heard the sigh of annoyance coming from Ren and the light giggling from Pyrrha next to him.
"Jeez, I'm going to have a heart attack by the end of the week." Jaune grumbled to himself, placing a hand on his chest and feeling how much his heart rate sky rocketed from the simple scare. He then turned around slightly on the seat and looked at Nora, with an annoyed expression on his face, "Can you not do that please? I nearly jumped out of my skin." Jaune said, trying his best to give a stern look to the short orangette.
A simple shrug was his response and all he could do was sigh in annoyance, much like Ren did moments ago.
"Nora." Was the simple call from Ren and in a split second, Nora was back seated in her spot next to Ren. Jaune looked towards Pyrrha for any help but he only saw her shrug with a confused smile on her face.
"Right... eccentrics aside, how is your class schedule like?" Jaune asked, wanting to know his teams schedule for classes, he quickly pulled his one out of his pocket, a simple white piece of paper that had the Beacon insignia on the back.
"It's alright. I have Professor Port first in Grimm Studies, then I have Professor Ann Greene for Stealth and Security, then to finish the day; I have a blank period." Ren said, looking over his classes for the day, although he was vaguely interested by the second class... it also seemed that each class goes for an hour and fifteen minutes.
"Same for me, Grimm Studies, then I have a blank period and then I have Professor Peach for Plant Science." Pyrrha announced, although her voice was slightly off about having a class for plant sciences... maybe she would enjoy that class?
"Yuck, Grimm Studies, ooh, then a blank period for my second period and then I have Professor Mulberry for Weapon Crafting and Upkeep." Nora said, her voice a little quiter than usual about the fact that she had classes that really didn't interest her at all.
Jaune was looking over his timetable for the day, and he released an audible groan of disappointment at what he saw, "I have Grimm Studies with Professor Port, then I have Team Leadership classes with Professor Goodwitch being supervisor, then I have Professor Ann Greene for Stealth and Security." He announced, not at all enjoying the fact that he had a full day of classes without a blank period like his teammates, "Why can't I have a period off." He said with sadness in his voice as he did so.
"Well, you are team leader, you have a lot more responsibility, so I guess it is natural for team leaders to have a full day." Pyrrha said, patting Jaune on the shoulder gently to try and improve his mentality.
"At least we are together for the first class, then Ruby and other team leaders will join you in the second period." Ren stated, allowing Jaune to remember that he won't be completely alone in the classes. There could be a chance for him to attempt to make new friends or even acquaintences.
"I guess. Looks like I will have a lot more on my plate than you will." Jaune joked lightly to his team, getting small smiles from Pyrrha and Nora and a nod from Ren.
"Plus, I heard that when you are leader, you are not only responsible for yourself, but also people around you. As they say 'As leader, you are first to show and last to leave.'" Nora stated, along with saying a quote in a mock stern voice that sounded oddly familiar to Jaune.
She was met with a blank stare coming from Pyrrha and a raised eyebrow coming from Ren, Jaune was too busy having that part on his mind, he really needed to step up his game, that little statement from Nora told him how important his role really was to the team.
"Nora, where did you hear that quote?" Ren asked with his eyebrow raised and a curious yet dull tone of voice, Pyrrha tilted her head slightly at that, not knowing Nora could be so deep, she seemed like someone who would rush in recklessly and think later.
"What? I watch movies." She pouted cutely, cheeks puffed out and looking down at the ground with a little 'hmph'.
"Anyway!" Jaune called out, trying to not have something happen regarding words being thrown around that may evolve into something more, "I believe that it is time to get to class." Jaune stated, pulling out his scroll once again and seeing it was about twenty minutes till class actually started, nodding to himself he pocketed his scroll once again, "Now, let us find Professor Port's class." Jaune said, before hastily getting up and stretching slightly from sitting down for so long and waited for his team to follow him out of the cafeteria.
Pyrrha, Nora and Ren all looked to each other before shrugging thier shoulders and decided to follow thier team leader.
In the rather grand and clean courtyard of Beacon Academy, Professor Ozpin was seen, mug in hand filled with hot cocoa as he gazed upon his school, just barely able to see through the windows of the school that lead to the hallways with multiple students moving about to find thier classes for the new term.
"Ozpin sir, are you sure it was wise to have leadership classes on the first day of the term?" A feminine and stern voice asked from beside him, lazily glancing from the corner of his eyes, he saw Glynda Goodwitch tapping her foot on the cobblestone ground rather impatiently, scroll in hand looking through the camera system in the hallways and in the cafeteria, keeping an eye out for any wrongdoings.
"It is wise. Leaders need to know that they are not only looking after themselves, but also the people on thier team or others around them. They need to learn this, develop the correct mentality for any situation." He said calmly, taking a brief sip of his hot cocoa, relishing the taste of it.
A small sigh was all he heard for a few short moments, however that was changed once she spoke up again, "I know, it's just... going to be a loadful for the new team leaders, they are going to have so much burden placed upon them. Hopefully they aren't afraid to ask for help. Asking for help is never a weakness." She stated, before sitting down on a polished wooden bench near a small fountain and proceded to flick through the cameras found within the school grounds.
All Ozpin did was nod, he knew from experience that people were afraid to ask for help, and that thier pride, ego and upbringing had roles that prevented many people from asking help.
'I hope they can stand up to the test. They need to be for what is coming up.' He thought to himself, gripping his cane harder than normal with slight creaking of the metal being heard if someone strained thier ears.
Jaune and his new teammates found themselves right outside the door to the Grimm Studies classroom, it was located on the first floor and was close to thier dorm room, so it was a simple journey if any of them woke up late and they had this class first, while it might not be great for them skipping out on breakfast, it was definately better than getting in trouble by the Professor or in some cases with the Headmaster and Headmistress Glynda Goodwitch.
"So, any idea on what our Professor might be like? Since we know the name is 'Port', it should be a guy." Jaune asked, breaking the small silence that had built up around them, he took a quick glance around and saw a few other people lining up outside the classroom, leaning against the wall allowing as much space as possible in the hallways, "Maybe he could be young and a prodigy." He put in his little opinion on thier new teacher who they were still waiting for, even though there was a few minutes before classes started.
"I believe he would be stern and very serious." Pyrrha opted in, from her experience she knew that Professor's were very strict and serious, as it was them who were teaching others how to survive or learn important things.
"Maybe he would be more of a practical teacher rather than a theoretical teacher." Ren opted in his input, he would rather a practical teacher, as they seemed to have more understanding of what the class wants. With that, all the team members turned thier heads to the hyper orangette who was bouncing up and down on the heels of her feet slightly, swaying her head to an unknown tune.
Suddenly sensing multiple eyes on her, she thought about it for the moment, "I hope he is jolly and loud. It would be better than someone who is bland and boring." Nora opted in, jumping on her heels ever so slightly. She just desperately hoped he wasn't boring. She didn't want to get kicked out of school yet! She hasn't found the sloths or pancake stronghold in the place.
A loud and boistrous laugh got everyone's attention, all turning around with equal amounts of surprise and varying levels of enthusiasm, they were met with thier Professor for the class. They were wrong with what they believed he would look like... actually, that was an understatement.
"Righto, welcome to my class, as you already know, I am Professor Peter Port, but you shall either refer to me as Professor Port or simply Professor!" He said, his loud and boistrous voice carrying different levels of sterness and jollyness all in one roll, "Please, come inside and take a seat with your teams." He stated before kicking his own classroom door open with a bang. With the unfortunate sight that was his belly jiggling heavily as he did so.
Professor Port appears to be a man in early old age. He wears a double-breasted burgundy suit with gold piping and buttons. His pants he wears tucked into olive boots, similar in appearance and construction to cavalry boots. He has gray hair that is shiny under certain light, hopefully not with grease and a gray mustache and is slightly overweight; when he moves his belly visibly shakes from side to side and when he moves a certain way, it bounces up and down.
Many people simply shrugging it off as another eccentric person of many they have already met entered the class with little fuss, including Nora. However, Jaune, Pyrrha and Ren stood outside the classroom still, varying levels on shock on thier faces as they did so, although Ren's look was more hidden.
"T-t... Huh!" Jaune stuttered out, seriously not expecting Professor Port to look like that or sound like that. He thought that all hunstman and huntresses were fit and healthy, however, what Port had was a serious beer gut.
Pyrrha shook her head rapidly, her crimson locks flying everywhere as she desperately tried to get the jiggling belly out of her mind, she swore she even saw the mustache move as he introduced himself, 'It's just a dream, just a dream.' She repeated in her head like a sacred saying, hoping to Oum that the mustache didn't move and she was just nervous about starting her new education.
"Well... that was, uh, interesting." Ren said, although he seemed to be slightly green and shivering lightly. He then turned his attention to his two teammates and saw them standing frozen in place, "Come on you two. Let's head in, no need to get in trouble on the first day." Ren said lightly, tapping them both on thier shoulders getting small jumps of acknowledgement from them before heading inside the classroom.
Once the shellshocked Jauen and Pyrrha recovered properly, they both looked to each other and quickly bolted inside the classroom, making sure to avoid any eye contact with Professor Port or avoiding making eye contact with his face and his belly... so that meant they were looking down to the floor most of the time. Once they managed to get up the first few steps and thier backs were towards Professor Port, they finally looked back up and tried to find Ren or Nora.
"Fearless leader! Over here." Nora's voice called out, luckily, it wasn't heard by that many people as most of them were busy bustling with excitement, it seems the prospect of having thier first class and someone as... charismatic as Professor Port as a teacher managed to bring up thier excitement levels at knowing he wasn't a strict teacher, more of a jolly person who would be hard to upset.
Looking around for the voice, they saw that Nora had managed to snag a raised table about three levels up and the closest to the wall, where she was sat on the very far end and Ren was quietly sitting next to her... reading a book about meditation? 'Where did he get that?' Jaune thought to himself in confusion at the site of the book, he was certain that Ren didn't have anything on him.
Without any other thought on the manner, Jaune sat besides Ren, which happened to be in the middle of his team, as Pyrrha sat on his side. Jaune blinked a few times at seeing a full empty table in front of them, 'Another team who is late maybe.' He thought to himself before settling down and pulling out a fresh book from his little carry bag and placed it on the desk in front of him and opening it up to the fresh pair of pages, leaving the first one for a title page or something along those lines. However, a gleam of gold got his attention, looking up to where it was located, he saw on the teachers desk, right in front of the portly Professor was a golden bust... of himself. Looking over to Pyrrha, he whispered quietly, "Why does he have a golden bust of himself?" To further prove his point, he pointed his finger in the direction of said bust.
Pyrrha looked to where her team leader was pointing and her brilliant green eyes widened slightly at the sight of the golden bust of the portly Professor. She fidgeted slighty before looking back to Jaune with a small shrug and whispered, "Maybe... to feed his ego?" Although it wasn't meant to be taken seriously, she still had some trouble getting it out.
Rapid footfalls could now suddenly be heard where they sit, before a large crashing noise was heard and the door was flung open with enough force to probably kill a Grimm and a large plume of dust came flying up. Most of the people in the room looked towards the massive dust cloud, wondering what could have caused this, even Professor Port got up from his little seat behind his large desk to look what the commotion was.
Once the dust cleared, the sudden crash was revealed to be team RWBY, all on top of each other rather comically, with poor Ruby being on the very bottom of the stack.
"Ladies. It might be a good idea to get to sleep earlier or wake up earlier and get to class on time. Due to your tardiness, I have lost ten minutes in my lesson." Port said, his tone was semi-serious, however, you could still hear some of his jolliness. Unfortunately, he laughed merrily afterwards and went on about being youthful again, that in turn gave the people a nasty sight of his portly belly jiggling up and down.
"It wasn't my fault. It was the dunces' fault." Weiss voice could be heard as icy and venemous as always as she glared daggers at the person below her, before she was finally able to get up herself with Yang and Blake finally regathering thier senses and becoming clear headed again. As Ruby slowly got up and clutching her head in slight pain, Jaune was able to see that she had already made small customisations to her uniform, now it had her normal red cloak from her outfit clipped on to it, and in his mind, it looked adorable.
"Doesn't matter, you are all responsible young adults, so act like it. Now, please take a seat, I would like to finally start my lesson." Port said, gesturing to the free table a level below Jaune's team.
"Yes, sir." Weiss grumbled out, before roughly grabbing Ruby's cape and dragging her towards the designated area they were meant to sit at, ignoring the whining escaping Ruby's mouth, along with Yang's grumble and Blake's eye roll at the antics of those two.
Once team RWBY settled down, Jaune also took note of how Ruby was sat in the middle of her team as well, with Weiss looking... less than pleased at being so close to her, judging by the way she was basically hanging of the edge of the seat as far away from Ruby as possible. He frowned lightly, if they wanted to work together well as a team, then they would need to get over thier differences... and quickly at that, maybe the next lesson would help Ruby start it off.
"Now, welcome to Grimm Studies, where we will learn about the behaviours and characteristics of the creatures of Grimm. Or as I like to call them 'prey' haha!" He joked out at the end, seeing and hearing that no one reacted to his joke he coughed awkwardly trying to break the uncomfortable silence that formed within his class, "It is expected that you will be able to learn about all types of Grimm within this class on a theoretical level, in the next year, it will be possible to be able to use the knowledge learnt in a practical use." He said merrily, with his eyebrows covering his eyes, it was rather challenging to know who he was looking at.
"And you shall too, upon graduating from this prestigious academy! Now, as I was saying; Vale, as well as the other three kingdoms, are safe havens in an otherwise treacherous world! Our planet is absolutely teeming with creatures that would love nothing more than to tear you to pieces! And that's where we come in. Huntsmen! Huntresses..." Somehow, he directs his attention towards Yang and winks at her, getting an uncomfortable groan and shift from Yang, "Individuals who have sworn to protect those who cannot protect themselves! From what, you ask? Why, the very world!" He finished proudly at the end, waiting for the applause that he thinks he deserves.
"Ayyyy-yep!" A student stands like this for a moment with his fist raised in the air as everyone looks at him strangely before sitting down, embarrassed, much to the amusement of everyone around him.
"That is what you are training to become. But first: A story. A tale of a young, handsome man... Me! When I was a boy..."
His words fade into the background in a muttering mess and unintelligible words when Weiss notices out of the corner of her eye that Ruby is very focused on penciling the paper in front of her.
"...Despite smelling of cabbages, my grandfather was a wise man. 'Peter', he told me..."
The speech evolves into more "blah"s as Ruby chuckles at her creation and shows it to her teammates: a ball-with-limbs-and-a-head drawing of the teacher with stink lines coming from him and "Professor Poop" written underneath. Ruby blows a quick raspberry towards Weiss. Blake smirks lightly and Yang laughs quietly, but Weiss looks downright annoyed. Jaune couldn't help but lightly chuckle at the drawing, it was so childish, but seemed so much like something Ruby would do.
The slight chuckle coming from behind her causing her to turn around, and she saw Jaune giving her a small thumbs up, which she greatfully returns. Neither noticing how Yang turned around as well, seeing as to who got her sister's attention like that, she smiled lightly at the interaction between Jaune and Ruby.
"Ah-heh-hem!" He cleared his throat in annoyance and waited until the attention was back on him, when he saw the attention back on him, he continued his story. "In the end, the Beowolf was no match for my sheer tenacity, and I returned to my village with the beast in captivity and my head held high, celebrated as a hero!" Port takes a over exaggerated bow as Weiss slowly gets more and more frustrated with Ruby's antics as she is not even paying attention to the Professor.
"The moral of this story? A true Huntsman must be honorable!"
Ruby is balancing an apple on a book with her pencil held only by her finger while making a silly face. While Nora is seen sleeping against the wall of the classroom.
"A true Huntsman must be dependable!" Port listed off again to the class.
Ruby has fallen asleep again in the first class of the year and Jaune is seen trying his best to not fall asleep and trying to find anything that he should write down, before Pyrrha gets his attention and points at the drawings of the Grimm along the front wall, all with information on them. He gives a light smile in her direction and squints, writing down all the information he can.
"A true Huntsman must be strategic, well-educated, and wise!" Port listed off another trait once again.
Ruby is not-so-subtly picking her nose, much to Weiss' building anger. Ren is seen taking notes about something in both his little A4 size book and Nora's little pocket diary with slightly darker pages than Ren's book and was mainly pink and orange
"So, who among you believes themselves to be the embodiment of these traits?" Port asked the class, who were basically half asleep by this point, much to his annoyance, but kept it out of his voice. He can give them the excuse that it was first day and the very first class of thier new school career.
"I do, sir!" Weiss calls out, anger clear in her tone as she raises her hand in a polite manner.
"Well, then, let's find out!" He turns to gesture at the glowing red eyes surrounded by shadow shaking the cage that traps it "Step forward, and face your opponent!"
With the small break allowed for Weiss to collect her weapon and change into her normal attire, which is both used for combat and normal everyday life attire barring a few micro changes, she readies her weapon, Myrtenaster at the growling creature in the cage, its glowing red eyes a clear sight to see for all in the class, along with the pig like grunts escaping its mouth.
"Goooo, Weiss!" Yang calls out, raising her fist in the air and cheering for her teammate.
"Fight well!" Blake called out, waving a small flag that spells RWBY appearing out of nowhere and now clutched in her grasp.
"Yeah, represent Teeeeam RWBY!" Ruby called out in excitement and childish glee at the prospect of her team being represented in front of other people.
"Ruby! I'm trying to focus!" Weiss growls out at her childish team 'leader' after lowering her sword.
"Oh, um... Sorry..." Ruby says sheepishly, although she looked rather hurt, like a kicked puppy. Jaune had to reign in his older brother instincts, he felt conflicted about what to do, call out Weiss for what she did, or comfort Ruby, but decided against it. They needed to figure this out themselves.
"Allllright!" Port said as he was standing next to the cage, his Blunderbus in hand, "Let the match... begin!" The professor swings down and breaks the lock, dropping the cage door and revealing the Boarbatusk inside, which immediately charges at Weiss. She uses Myrtenaster to deflect its attack and roll to the side, readying herself for its next move. The Grimm stands a distance away from its enemy, studying her.
"Ha-ha! Wasn't expecting that, were you?" Port offered his rather rudimentary running commentary that could be taken as small taunts to rile up his students.
"Hang in there, Weiss!" Ruby called out, a little concerned about her friend, her previous hurt feelings gone and replaced by concern for her partners wellbeing.
Weiss is now speeding towards the oncoming Boarbatusk, sticking her blade straight at its skull until they meet and Myrtenaster is trapped in the beast's tusks. Weiss is still hanging on to the hilt, and is tossed around as she struggles to get the rapier back.
"Bold, new approach. I like it!" Port offered his commentary to the struggling Weiss.
"Come on, Weiss, show it who's boss!" Ruby cheered loudly once more, a small fist bump in the air as her silver eyes were locked onto the fight between the two opposong forces.
Weiss turns to glare at Ruby, only for the Boarbatusk to turn its head and rip the sword from her grip. Myrtenaster lands far away from Weiss, who is, in turn knocked back by the creature's tusks.
"Oh-ho! Now what will you do without your weapon?" Port calls out to Weiss on the other side of the classroom.
Weiss looks up just in time to see the Boarbatusk charge again, rolling out of the way just in time to avoid getting trampled and make it crash into a desk. Weiss rushes at her sword and slides to get it back in her hand.
"Weiss! Go for its belly! There's no armor underneath-" Ruby begun calling out helpful advice, only to be shutdown by Weiss. Jaune on the other hand, had a lightbulb moment and decided to write that down, as he didn't know that and would be nice to look back on later.
Weiss turns to Ruby with a small glare before shouting out her next words, "Stop telling me what to do!"
Ruby looks hurt at Weiss' rebuttal. Meanwhile, the Boarbatusk leaps into the air and rolls into a ball, spinning rapidly in the air and landing on the ground, consistently gaining speed until it launches itself at Weiss. It comes closer and closer, but Weiss activates one of her blue-white circles and blocks the roll, leaping up into the now-black snowflake symbol and turning it blue again so she can drive the blade into the Boarbatusk's stomach. It squeals and falls silent while Weiss gasps in relief.
"Bravo! Bra-vo! It appears we are indeed in the presence of a true Huntress-in-training!" As Weiss stands up at attention from her exhausted position and Ruby continues to frown, "I'm afraid that's all the time we have for today. Be sure to cover the assigned readings, and... stay vigilant! Class dismissed!" Port dismissed his class with a small mock salute as the bell rang for the swap over of classes.
Weiss glares and turns away, walking hurriedly to the exit past her teammates.
Jaune watched Weiss leave in a hurry, with Ruby soon following after her partner, a concerned look plastered on her face once more, "Sheesh, what's with her? Wrong side of the bed?" He questioned, not knowing how right his question was.
The remaining members of Team(RW)BY looked at each other with the same question.
Weiss is still storming off throughout the Beacon Academy hallways, not exactly knowing where she is going, but Ruby turns a corner and manages to catch up with her.
"Weiss!" Ruby called out from behind her.
Weiss turned around, her eyes blazing in pure anger and annoyance "What?" She questioned loudly, her anger clear in her voice.
"What's wrong with you? Why are you being-?" Ruby tried to question but was abruptly cut off by Weiss.
"What's wrong with me? What's wrong with you? You're supposed to be a leader, and all you've been so far is a nuisance!" Weiss retorted out harshly to the young leader.
Ruby scoffs and states back to Weiss, "What did I do?" Her arms crossed over her chest as she looks expectantly at Weiss, unkowingly using her sisters look when she wants to know something that has happened.
Unaffected by the look that she was recieving, she continued her onslaught towards the young leader and her begrudging Beacon initiation partner, "That's just it - you've done nothing to earn your position! Back in the forest, you acted like a child, and you've only continued to do so!"
"Weiss, where is this coming from? What happened to all the talk about 'working together'? I thought you believed in acting as a team."
"Not a team led by you. I've studied and trained. And quite frankly, I deserve better." She turns her back to Ruby, who was trying to reach out to her but dropping her hand in shock from the following words said, "Ozpin made a mistake." Weiss huffs and walks away, leaving a dejected Ruby alone in the hallway, which was now empty of all students getting to thier next class.
"We-" Ruby began before cutting herself off, the sheer venom and anger that was conveyed with those words that Weiss basically yelled out were taking a rather large toll on the young team leader.
She felt a slight prickling sensation around her eyes as she brought her hand up and wiped around the area, and did indeed feel that some tears were making themselves known. Sniffling lightly, Ruby took one more glance before turning around slowly and started trudging away. She just wanted to be left alone... and maybe not see Weiss for a few hours.
She didn't understand how one could change from being co-operative to acting like that in a few hours. Maybe it was some anger that had yet to be vented out when she woke her team up rather early in the morning with a whistle?
"Hmm... Now that didn't seem to go very well." Ruby jumped slightly at hearing the Headmaster's voice. Turning around, Ruby was met with Professor Ozpin standing a few feet away from her, holding a mug in his hand that smelt distinctly of cocoa and leaning on his cane slightly as his gaze travelled from the area Weiss previously was to where Ruby currently was.
"Is she right? Did you make a mistake?" She asks, on the verge of tears after the onslaught she just recieved from Weiss.
"That remains to be seen." Ozpin simply stated, much to the confusion of Ruby, before he continues on with an explanation.
Weiss is still walking around the halls until she comes across a balcony where Professor Port is watching the sky with a small snack in hand. She was surprised to see him here before her, however, she put it down to him knowing the Academy better than her.
"Professor Port!" Weiss announces, as she approaches him.
Professor Port turns to look at her, showing the snack in his hand to be a green apple that is nearly finished, "Ah, Miss Schnee! And to what do I owe this fine pleasure?"
"I... I enjoyed your lecture!" She said after a small fumble over her words.
"Of course you did, child; you have the blood of a true Huntress in you." Port laughed a bit in a light hearted way, which made Weiss smile lightly.
"You really think so?" She questioned him.
"Most surely!" He then notices Weiss' small frown and the lack of eye contact coming from her, "Hmm... Something's troubling you." He questioned, wanting to know if he could help her in any way.
"Yes, sir..." She finally confessed after grabbing her arm lightly.
"Dear girl, confess to me your strife!" Port said, leaning against the balcony they were currently at.
"Well... I-I think I should have been the leader of Team RWBY!" Weiss finally said, sounding more confident as she spoke more.
Professor Port remains silent for a moment mulling it over in his head in a type of simulation, before finally adding his answer to the question, "That's preposterous!"
"What do you mean?" Ruby questioned, confused at what he meant by his previous statement.
"I mean, it's only been one day. Ruby... I've made more mistakes than any man, woman, and child on this planet-" It was an uncomfortable pause, and Ruby just begun to see how old Ozpin really was, it looked like he was tired and just wanted to retire and settle down somewhere nice and live out the rest of his life, "-but at this moment, I would not consider your appointment to leader to be one of them." He leans in slightly, "Do you?" He questioned, his eyes peering into her own.
"Excuse me?!" She shrieked out in anger towards the Professor.
"I've believed in Professor Ozpin for many years, and the man's never once led me astray!" Port stressed out certain words in this little argument they found themselves in.
"So you would just blindly accept his decision even after seeing how exceptional I am?" Weiss retorted back to the Professor, her nerves starting to run out. If it were anyone else, she would have skewered them with her weapon then incased them in a layer of ice dust.
"With all due respect, your exceptional skill on the battlefield is matched only by your poor attitude." Port shot back, hoping to knock some sense into her with this. She was indeed skilled, however her attitude needed to be fixed pronto.
"How dare you!" Weiss was seething at this point, her face matching Pyrrha's hair colour and was a stark contrast to her icy blue eyes that seemed to get even lighter in her anger.
"My point exactly. I see a girl before me who has spent her entire life getting exactly what she wanted, and not working for anything, and just expecting everything to go her way." Port explained to the still fuming Weiss.
She crosses her arms, a defiant look on her face along with her posture screaming the same thing, "That's not even remotely true!" Looking at the teacher's stern and disappointed gaze, she reluctantly relents, "Well... not entirely true." Now rubbing her arm lightly, calming down a small margin.
"Being a team leader isn't just a title you carry into battle, but a badge you wear constantly. If you're not always performing at your absolute best, then what reason do you give others to follow you?" He begun, before taking a small sip of his beverage, "I imagine that the other team leaders may not have the full backing of their team, however, in time, trust and the bond that a team could bring will eventually bring everyone around. You just can't rush these things."
Ruby looks thoughtful with Ozpin's words, then smiles at him, her attitude shifting slightly with her feeling a little better as she took those words in.
"So the outcome did not fall in your favor. Do you really believe that acting in such a manner would cause those in power to reconsider their decision?" Port stated, before seeing Weiss calm down a great deal, "So instead of fretting about what you don't have, savor what you do. Hone your skills, perfect every technique, and be not the best leader, but the best person you can be." He pats her on the shoulder gently before walking off, his short break now over and started heading back to his classroom.
Weiss smiles a little at the words of wisdom, suddenly feeling much more better and slightly guilty with how she treated Ruby.
Ozpin begins to turn around, now his back facing Ruby before he gave her one last piece of advice, "You've been burdened with a daunting responsibility, Ruby. I advise you take some time, to think about how you will uphold it, and confide with others, maybe Jaune, you seem rather close bond despite knowing each other for a day at most." With that statement made, he continues on his little bout to go wherever he was going before the ordeal happened.
Ruby, with a last look of consideration, turns and walks away, hopefully she wouldn't be in trouble for arriving late in the next class. At least Jaune will be in it, so she won't be so alone and make a fool of herself in front of others.
END CHAPTER
Once again, I didn't change too much with this chapter in the rewrite, barring slight conversation changes with Weiss and Port, along with Ruby and Ozpin. I know it still follows the transcript from canon, but changes to canon have already been made in this story and I want to at least keep some things the same.
