A/N : Writing this took me a while. In my defense, I've had exams for 2 weeks(and probably failed majority of them lol). Oh well I finally got around to uploading.Disclaimer: I obviously don't own Harry Potter. I do own my ocs.
Hailee looked at the fresh cut she had made on her wrist. Maybe she was being a bit dramatic. Yes, there were a few people who were mean to her. Usually not from her house, but students from other houses didn't hide the fact that they didn't like her. Especially those in Gryffindor. She swallowed back a sob. She was in the bathroom and she didn't want to wake up her roommates. Okay, it wasn't just a few students. Of the 3 weeks that she was already in school, she had pages of her books stolen so many times, her homework stolen on the day she was supposed to turn it in(which resulted in her getting detention). many times, or being roughly shoved in the hallways.
And the whispers. The whispers were the worst. Albus and Scorpius tried to help, but students were nowhere near as hostile towards them as they were towards her. She bit her lip.
She barely talked to Louis. She had avoided him every time she saw him approaching her and whenever for some reason she couldn't escaped him, she had looked down at the floor and answered in short replies. She didn't hate the boy. But her and Louis were so different. He was the most popular boy in their year, had tons of friends and certainly didn't have people trying to hex him. And she... Well it was just different.
She didn't even want to sleep in her dorm anymore. Only coming in when she was sure the other girls were asleep and being the first to leave. She would then wait in the common room until Albus and Scorpius got down, trying to ignore the looks of the other Slytherins as they walked past her.
Of course, she didn't tell her mom this. She didn't want to worry her mother. She felt bad about lying but thought it was the right thing to do. She didn't mind suffering in silence. She was the one who decided to go to Hogwarts. She remembered being heartbroken when her Hogwarts letter didn't arrive when she was 11(which was horrible considering the fact that she was by no means a squib, having shown signs of magic when she was just a toddler).
Today she decided to just leave for the Great Hall. Not wanting to stay in the common room for once. Albus told her about how he found out where the kitchens were. She forgot to ask him where it was though. She was at the Great Hall when she noticed, to her relief, that barely any people were there.
She spotted a blonde boy sitting at the Ravenclaw table... Wearing a very peculiar hat. He looked at her. She was surprised at the friendliness in his eyes.
Hesitating, she approached him. She didn't know why but this boy didn't seem as if he would mind her sitting next to him."H-Hello..."
He smiled warmly at her. "Hello Hailee."
"You know who I am?" She wanted to slap herself.
"You're Albus' friend." His smile faltered and he looked thoughtful for a moment. "Are you hurt?"
She blinked at him."I-eep!" She yelped when he gently placed his hand on her tummy. She thanked Merlin once again for being dark-skinned. She also hated the fact that her tummy wasn't completely flat. She shook her head. What was she thinking.
Then again a few weeks ago she barely had any contact with boys and now one boy was just randomly touching her tummy.
"No weird bowel movements." He smiled at her, his hand still on her stomach.
Huh?
Students started to fill in. A couple of Ravenclaws glared when they saw her sitting at their table. She bit her lip.
Albus and Scorpius, who just entered the Great Hall, looked confused when they saw her at the Ravenclaw table. Albus laughed when he saw who she was sitting next to.
"Lorcan, don't just randomly touch people you just met," he said, chuckling a bit when he reached them.
"I wanted to make sure that she didn't have bowel movements. She looked a bit hurt."
Scorpius gave her a worried look. Hailee looked away.
"Lorcan Scamander right?"
He nodded at her.
"Why the hat?"
Albus groaned, taking a seat at the table and when he noticed that Scorpius was still standing, he pulled him down too. "You shouldn't have said that."
Lorcan grinned and then started explaining the workings of his hat.
Hailee giggled as they walked to class. "Lorcan is quite nice."
"And very weird," Albus added.
Hailee couldn't help but agree. She almost yelled when someone slung their arm around her shoulder. Louis had wedged himself between them so now he was walking in between Scorpius and her, his arms around their shoulders. "Hey guys. It seems like forever since I spoke to you."
Scorpius flushed and stayed quiet.
Albus rolled his eyes. "You saw us yesterday. You were also busy with your other friends so..."
"Well I can't just ignore those I have in Gryffindor. No worries though, I really like you guys too." After saying this he looked down at the Riddle girl, his smile faltering when he saw that she was ignoring him. "Hey Hailee."
"...hey."
He frowned slightly.
Once they arrived in the potions classroom Louis left to sit with the Gryffindors as he always did. Scorpius sighed. "Maybe ask him to sit next to you instead of pretending you're mute ? " Albus asked jokingly.
Hailee ended up being seated next to Martin Zabini, which really surprised her because there was still a lot of place left since they were one of the earlier ones to arrive.
Other Gryffindors started entering the classroom. One of them, a blonde girl named Polly Chapman, sneered at her before taking a seat next to Louis.
Hailee sighed. Couldn't they just ignore her?
After the lessons ended, the trio was in the courtyard, listening to Albus rambling about Quidditch tryouts. "You guys support me, right?"
Scorpius nodded. "Of course."
"II'll be your biggest fan." She linked her arm with his.
"Quidditch tryouts are tomorrow. James won't know what is coming. I'll definitely be better than him."
"What position do you want to try out for?" Scorpius asked.
"A seeker of course."
"Why would anyone want the Slytherin squib on the Quidditch team?" A voice suddenly sounded.
Albus groaned when the three turned around. "You again?"
Polly Chapman had her arms crossed, smiling at them. The smile was clearly fake though. "I mean, you're horrible with a wand. You won't fare better with a broom."
Scorpius and Albus shared a look, shaking their head. Last year, Polly had made it a duty to make them miserable with her annoying friends. They hoped that she had matured a bit this school year.
"You're not a very nice person." Hailee spoke up. She was surprised she even spoke.
Polly gave her a disgusted look. "Don't speak with me, you demon."
Hailee's eyes widened.
"Don't talk to her like that." Albus said angrily.
Polly shook her head at him. "You're definitely a disappointment to your father. Being friends with the descendant of that man. He killed your grandparents you know."
"Shut up about my family, it doesn't concern you."Albus was starting to get red from anger.
Polly threw her head back and laughed. "You're so fucking pathetic. No wonder your family is ashamed of you."
In a flash Albus pulled out his wand. Polly, who already expected this, took out her wand at the same time. "Wanna fight, slytherin squib?"
"Albus stop, you can get in trouble." Scorpous said worriedly.
Hailee looked around, hoping someone would step in. But people were just looking on in amusement and curiosity.
"Stay out of this, son of Voldemort."
Hailee raised an eyebrow. She never understood that stupid rumor.
Scorpius ignored her and took a step forward. "Albus..."
Albus slightly turned his head to look at him. "Stay back Scorpius." He yelled at the same time Polly yelled "Rictumsempra!"
Hailee screamed in shock when the spell hit Albus and had flying back and hit the ground with a hard sound. Gasps and laughs were heard. "Albus!" Hailee and Scorpius kneeled at his side.
"Albus, I'm so sorry." Scorpius apologized. Had he not distracted Albus then he wouldn't have gotten hit.
Polly was laughing loudly. "See? You suck at magic."
Albus angrily stood up and pointed his wand at her. "Stupefy!"
The spell hit Polly hard enough that she hit the wall. Some people whistled. Hailee frowned. Why did they have to fight.
Polly groaned before glaring at them. "You pay for that." She pointed her wand at them.
"Expelliarmus!" Polly gasped when her wand flew out of her hand.
Louis Weasley looked livid, as he pointed his wand at her. "Can you stop being such an annoying bitch for once in your life?"
Scorpius sighed in relief. "Thank Merlin, you're here Louis."
"What is going on here?!" Mcgonall demanded as she made her way in the courtyard. Students quickly dispersed from the courtyard. She looked at Polly who was glaring at Louis, her wand lying on the ground behind her. Albus, who had his wand pointed at her and Louis who also had his wand pointed at her.
Sighing, she rubbed her temples. She was getting too old for this. "My office, now."
Louis sighed after they left the headmistress office. Polly made a rude hand gesture towards them before speed walking towards the Gryfdindor common room. "She's so annoying."
Albus nodded. "Can't believe we have to serve detention because of her."
Louis was quiet for a while. He stopped walking and Albus turned around to look at him with curiosity. "Something wrong, cousin?"
"Does Hailee hate me?" Louis asked bluntly.
Albus shook his head. "I don't think so at all."
Louis sighed. "She has been avoiding me. And when she does talk to me, she replies so coldly." He frowned. "What did I do wrong?"
Albus felt bad for his cousin. "She acts like that towards Scorpius and I too, it's not just you. You have to understand that Hogwarts is a completely new place for her. And with the way some people treat her..."
Louis frowned. "I heard about James, Fred and Roxanne."
Albus' look darkened."It was disgusting. Scorpius and I have been keeping an eye out to protect her, but after what happened in the hallway they have left her alone."
"They're definitely planning something." Louis concluded. "I've seen James sneak out his dormitory once. But when I wanted to follow him, he just disappeared."
"Disappeared, huh..." Albus mumbled, looking thoughtful for a moment. "We'll discuss this later. Let's go to bed now."
Louis nodded and they parted ways to go to their respective common rooms.
"Congrats Al." Hailee wrapped her arms around the boy and gently kissed his cheek, giggling when the boy flushed.
"T-Thanks."
Just like they promised, Hailee and Scorpius had accompanied Albus to the quidditch tryouts. Inheriting his parents talent for quidditch, Albus had impressed everyone when he tried out for seeker. Of course, they just had to mention his father. It would have made more sense to mention his mother.
"You know, before trying out I didn't want to do it as I didn't want to be compared to my dad." Albus told them as they walked back to the castle.
"I can understand how you feel. But just because you're being compared to your dad shouldn't stop you from doing what you want." Scorpius answered.
Albus nodded.
"Hey guys!" Louis ran up to them, looking way too handsome for a twelve year old.
They all greeted him except for Hailee. "Did you make the team?"
Albus grinned and Louis gave him a quick hug. "Awesome. I cheer you on for every match except for when it's Gryffindor vs Slytherin of course."
Albus rolled his eyes. "Of course.."
Scorpius mustered the courage to talk to Louis. "I thought you wanted to try out for the Gryffindor team?"
Louis gave him a wide smile that had Scorpius extremely flushed. " Nah. At least, not this year. Maybe next year." He then turned to look at Hailee. "Hailee, can I talk to you in private?"
She tensed. "S-Sure.."
"See you in the Great Hall." He waved at Scorpius and Albus, dragging Hailee off by her wrist.
Albus and Scorpius shared a look. "Do you know why she's been avoiding him?" Scorpius asked his friend.
Albus shook his head. "No idea."
They ended up in the courtyard. Hailee frowned, remembering what happened with Polly Chapman. Luckily not many people were there and they didn't really pay attention to them. Louis let go of her. "I'm sorry."
She blinked. "What?"
"I'm sorry for whatever I've done that makes you ignore me."
Merlin. I feel so bad. "Louis I-"
He held up his hand and she stopped talking. "Maybe it's becaus. I'm naturally a very touchy-feely person? I'm sorry if that makes you unconfortable."
It was true. The first time they met he was already casually putting an arm over her shoulder and since they've been at Hogwarts he always grabbed her wrist if he wanted her attention or whenever he would just casually hold her hand. She had been a bit weirded out in the beginning, but she got used to it. She was starting to get a bit more touchy with Albus herself. "No Louis. It's not that. I already got used to that."
"Then what is it?" He gently took her wrist in his hands. "What did I do wrong?"
Hailee felt her eyes water. "We're just so different." He looked confused so she continued. "I don't understand why you and Albus, part of the families who are the reason for my grandfather's downfall, want to be my friends." She sniffed. "You're just so amazing. Whenever I see you in the hallways you're always surrounded by a bunch of people. Everyone, everyone, likes you. Even the girls in my dorm talk positively about you. Yet you want to stoop so low and be my fr-ah." She winced in pain when Louis tightened his grip on her wrist. Was veela strenght a thing or was it just because he was a boy and thus more capable of hurting her?
"Don't ever say something like that. Ever." She had never seen him so angry before and it scared her. "I didn't 'stoop low'. I became your friend because I wanted to. From the moment we bumped into each other at Dragon Alley, I wanted us to be friends."
She bit her lip. He was still gripping her wrist in a death grip. "Hailee, it makes me so angry whenever I think about the way people treat you. You don't deserve it. You weren't born during that time. Neither you nor your mom are responsible for what happened."
She let the tears fall freely. Louis removed one of his hands from her wrist to gently wipe them away. "You don't think I'm responsible for your uncle's death?"
Louis snorted. "Fred, Roxanne and James are so dramatic. I don't know what made their brain stop developing so early on."
She giggled. She stopped when she saw the thoughtful look on his face. He cupped her face with his hands. "Hailee... Please don't ignore me anymore."
"I-I..."
"Promise me."
"I promise." He looked at her for a few seconds before pulling her closer in a hug.
People were paying more attention to her now. Seeing a Weasley hug a Riddle wasn't something you always saw after all. She wrapped her arms around his neck and buried her face in his neck. How could she have ever thought she could have kept ignoring him for the entire schoolyear?
They seperated and Louis gently took her wrist, tapping it. "Sorry. I didn' t mean to hurt you."
Hailee shook her head. "It's okay." She then gave him a bright smile.
And with her dark skin, her long eyelashes, full lips and her raven-colored waist length curly hair styled into a high ponytail Louis thought she was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen.
I want to keep writing until they're at least in their fifth year. Let's hope I get there.Ty for reading 3
