Eyes Wide Open

Chapter 25

Ever since her encounter with Carlisle and Aro, Bella had been feeling rather uneasy and conflicted about what to do. She debated whether to even take Aro up on his offer to help her with Edward, but she also couldn't help but wonder if he had some sort of other ulterior motive while in Forks. Jacob and Embry were as uneasy about his presence as she was, and Jacob definitely believed there was more to him being there than just helping them out with Edward's stalking and the threat him being around made. But Bella wasn't so sure, but maybe that was because she wasn't sure what to think about it right now. Angela, still believing Aro was a lawyer of some sort, was encouraging her to take him up on his offer. And while Bella believed it could possibly open a can of worms in some way when she already didn't want any more trouble, she also couldn't help but think that talking to Aro was the way to go.

A week had passed, and in another week, school would be starting again. Truthfully, Bella didn't want to continue dealing with Edward when school started, as it would make it easier for him to stalk her, and Jacob couldn't be there to protect her. Of course, she hadn't realized that until she had woken up screaming from a nightmare of Edward cornering her in an abandoned hallway at school, him making false declarations of love for her, his eyes blood red and fangs extended, saying they would be together forever as she struggled to get away from him, and then he sunk his fangs into her neck. Charlie had calmed her down as best he could, but she hadn't been able to stop crying the entire night. And Shadow, hating to see his mistress in distress, had tried comforting her as well. She had taken him in her arms and held him close, crying into his fur as he gave her all the love and comfort he could. She had eventually went back to sleep, but Shadow stayed awake the rest of the night to watch over her.

It had been a rough couple of days and Bella was sick of it. She needed to talk to someone about what to do, to get another opinion, someone not too close to it all that could look at it as objectively as possible. And luckily for Bella, she knew just that person: Ms. Opal.

Hanging up the phone with a sigh, Bella let out a frustrated huff and raked her hands through her hair. She had been on the phone for the past ten minutes trying to find someone to take her to La Push, but literally no one was available. Not Charlie, not Jacob, not Angela, not Jessica, not even Mike; he had been a last resort. Looking down to where Shadow was perched nearby, his golden aura facing her, she said, "It looks like we'll have to make the journey on foot, boy."

Shadow let out a slightly confused sound before barking, him getting up and running off. Listening to his nails hit the floor, Bella wondered what her dog was up to. However, she frowned when she heard the Lab returning, along with what sounded like jingling keys. Shadow stopped before her and she heard the jingling stop before something clattered to the ground. Bending down, Bella reached her hand out and felt cold metal beneath her fingertips. Gripping the object, Bella realized that it was her key-chain with the keys to her house and truck on it. Turning back to Shadow's golden aura, she asked, "Are you telling me to drive there, Shadow?"

A bark was her answer.

"Shadow, I can't drive there. I mean, I can't see and I'm sure it's illegal for someone legally blind to drive on the open road. Sorry buddy, but we can't."

Shadow whined before nudging the keys again, barking at her as if to tell her that she could do it. The two of them stared at each other before Bella let out a sigh and stood back up. Reaching for the table, she grabbed her retractable white stick before heading towards the front door, Shadow following behind her. She stepped outside, Shadow running after her, and closed and locked the front door. Extending her stick, she placed the end of it on the ground and began walking towards the driveway, moving the stick back and forth until it bumped against something. Reaching her other hand out, Bella felt the cool metal of her beloved truck.

Looking back at her dog she asked him, "You know this is crazy and dangerous, right?"

All Shadow did was yip in response.

Feeling along the truck until she made it to the driver's side, Bella grabbed hold of the door handle and opened the door, the door making a creaking sound as she did. She felt the Lab jump past her into the red beast before she too climbed into it. Placing her stick in the floor of the passenger side and closing the door behind her, Bella took in a deep breath and put the key in the ignition. Starting the truck, she listened to it rumble before letting out the breath she was holding.

"I must be batshit crazy to try this," Bella whispered to herself. "This is so crazy."

And yet, she was going to do it. After getting a feel of the interior of her metal baby again, she put the truck in reverse and began backing out of the driveway. She felt the change of pavement beneath the truck and stopped at the same time Shadow let out a bark. Looking to where he was seated she said, "Be my eyes, boy. One bark to stop, two to go, three for left, and four for right. Got it?"

Shadow barked in response, letting him mistress know he understood. And he did, he understood what she said perfectly. As she began driving, he barked in sequence of where she needed to go, helping her make her way to the Reservation that he had memorized. As he helped direct her, Bella silently couldn't believe that she was actually driving blind. She was positive she was breaking several traffic violations and that if Charlie or one of his fellow men in blue saw her doing this, she would be in so much trouble. But luckily, things seemed to go pretty smoothly, because before she knew it, she could feel herself driving along the roads of La Push, could smell the community in the air from her rolled down windows.

Smiling, Bella pulled over before reaching and rubbing Shadow's head praising, "Good job, Shadow! We did it! We got to La Push!"

Happy that he had made his mistress proud, the black dog licked Bella on her cheek before being told to direct her to Ms. Opal's house if he could. However, he could begin to, a loud voice called out, "Swan, what the hell?!"

Turning out the window, the brunette saw a red aura heading her way, soon stopping and at her truck. Suddenly feeling nervous, Bella swallowed and said hesitantly, "Uh, hi. Um, do I know you?"

The man looked at her for a moment before introducing himself. "Paul Lahote. You don't formally know me, but I'm part of Jacob's Pack. But what the hell are you doing driving? You're fucking blind, and that's fucking dangerous."

"I know, and I'm sorry, but I couldn't get in contact with anyone to get me here. But Shadow helped me get here safe and sound, so no biggie."

"Huge biggie! What the fuck is wrong with you?"

Before Paul could berate her more on her reckless decision to drive while blind, a vicious bark met him and his face was filled with the growling, teeth bared face of a black Labrador Retriever. Jerking back in surprise, Paul cursed at the dog's sudden appearance as Bella calmed the dog down, calling him Shadow as she did. So she let a damn dog guide her way from Forks to the Reservation? This girl was crazy, and it was hard for Paul to believe his Alpha found this chick appealing enough to date. But then again, what did he know about their relationship?

Looking around, Paul ran a hand down his face before saying, "You know Jacob is going to kill you if he finds out you drove yourself here, with or without the help of your pet. Where are you headed, Billy's?"

"Ms. Opal's."

Nodding, Paul opened the door and told her to move over, stating he was driving her the rest of the way. As Bella did do, Shadow climbing into her lap, the Shifter also said that he wouldn't tell anyone about this, though he couldn't guarantee Jacob not finding out because of the Pack mind hive; he also said that the story would be that she called him on accident and asked him to come take her to La Push. Though some would probably question why her truck was there, it wouldn't be hard to believe he had phased and ran to Forks and they just climbed in her truck. Knowing he didn't have to, Bella thanked him and they rode in silence onward to the Phillips' house.

Victoria ran from the five annoying, goody-goody Cullen vampires, darting back and forth through the trees and switching up her direction to trip them up. However, it seemed they were trying to close her in, not giving her a chance to get away. The big beefy one was flanking her left while the blonde bitchy looking one was on her right. The pixie cut one and the Cullen matriarch were chasing her from behind, and the bloodthirsty blond male was following from above in the trees. She didn't know where the other two were and frankly didn't care, but she had to get away from these five.

She wasn't stupid, she knew why they were chasing her. They were trying to stop her in order to protect their pathetic human pet. Well, no matter what they did, she would come out on top. No matter how hard they tried, she would get Bella Swan and kill her for James dying, and not these vampires or those wolves would stop her.

As she ran, Jasper from above smirked while following the redhead. They were doing according to plan, according to Alice's vision. They were leading her right into the trap they had set up. And because the trap was downwind, Victoria wouldn't know she had fallen into it until it was too late. Coming up on it soon, Jasper let out a sharp whistle. Hearing the signal, Rosalie lunged for Victoria, causing her to jump away from her towards Emmett, only for him to do the same and her evading. From behind, Alice and Esme reached for her too in a faux attempt of catching her, which the redhead bought and pushed forward out of reach. Jasper then jumped out of the trees in front of her, only for her to jump over his head. As she did, she turned to give them a condescending smirk, only to find them standing and smirking back at her in return.

Before she could question or wonder about what they were doing, a low growl caught her ear and she turned, only to come face to face with a large black muzzle. Quickly turning to run away, she only proceeded to run into dark brown wolf with dark grey around the eyes. This wolf didn't hesitate like the black one seemingly had and attacked her, sinking its powerful jaws into her arm and tearing it off. As she let out a scream of rage and disbelief at the turn of events, the black wolf went for her leg and tore it off, tossing it to the side.

Falling to the ground, she growled at the wolves before turning her attention to the Cullens. Hissing at them she said, "You bastards! You knew this would happen!"

Alice smiled sweetly and replied, "Well, I can only see but so far. But I did see us stopping at the treaty line. And your future ended at said line."

"We just called the wolves and let them know what was happening. They handled the rest," Jasper put in, his smirk turning almost sinister.

Just then, the large russet wolf that had seemed to have it out for her appeared, growling at her and even stomping a large paw on her, making sure she didn't move. Struggling, Victoria let out a screech before asking in disbelief, "All of this because of some worthless human?!"

The russet wolf snarled in response as Esme answered, "Not just a human, but family."

Flipping her blonde hair over her shoulder, Rosalie added, "And if it makes you feel better, Bella was never Edward's mate. So essentially, you did all this for nothing."

Red eyes widened incredulously before Victoria let out a scream of rage, her thrashing her remaining limbs before the russet wolf clamped his jaws over her head, tearing it from her body and ending her damned existence.

When the wolves had phased back to human, properly dressed and had burned Victoria's remains, Jacob looked at the Cullens from the other side of the treaty line and said, "Thanks for the heads up. We can finally focus on your mind-reader now."

Nodding, Alice said, "Sure. But…I wish we didn't have to be at odds concerning Edward. He just loves Bella, that's all. Surely you can understand that."

"Alice," Jasper said, Alice sighing in response and looking away.

Esme gave Alice a sad smile before turning to the three wolves. "We understand, and we won't try and stop you. We've enabled this and if we can't stop Edward, then I know you can, Jacob. Just promise me that when this is all over, you'll continue to watch out and take care of Bella."

Jacob nodded, knowing that wasn't even a question. The Cullens nodded in response and turned and ran out of sight, presumably back to their home. Turning to Sam and Jared, Jacob said, "Finally, the redhead is dead."

"But we still have the other leech," Jared said.

"We'll figure it out. Besides, I'm sure Jacob knows something that the rest of us don't," Sam said giving Jacob a look.

Before Jacob could say anything in response to that, Quil suddenly ran through the trees. Looking at Jacob he said, "Jake, Bella is here."

Smiling he nodded and asked, "Is she at my place?"

"No, she's at Ms. Opal's. Paul took her there, but only after she drove herself to La Push."

Jacob, Sam, and Jared all stared at their fellow Packmate before Sam asked, "What do you mean she drove herself?"

"I thought she was blind," Jared said.

"She is, but she somehow drove herself here. Paul drove her the rest of the way to Ms. Opal's," Quil explained. "I was out on patrol when I saw her truck, and then she pulled over and Paul approached her about what she was doing. He promised not to tell, but I don't think he knew I was nearby."

Not believing what he had just heard, Jacob took off running through the woods towards the Phillips' house. Oh, he loved his honey, he really did, but he couldn't believe her recklessness. Still in disbelief about it, he shook his head and continued running to the Phillips' house, intent on having a serious conversation with his beloved girlfriend, as well as deliver some good news.

Author's Note: Finally, Victoria is dead, lol. It was anticlimactic, I know, but we all know the main villain here is Edward, and Victoria's time was coming to an end. Anyway, I hope you all enjoyed this chapter, as well as Bella's blind driving, haha. Love, SehunsBae37.
