Chapter 28
Charlie was worried about his daughter, had been since she had come home the day before. She had obviously been crying and she was awfully quiet, too quiet for his liking. He knew Jacob had dropped her off before taking off back to La Push. She hadn't eaten the night before and hadn't left her room the whole time she had been home. Bella had exited her room that morning and had eaten a bowl of cereal, though she was still quiet and seemed very distracted. Even Shadow knew something was the matter, probably even knew what it was with how close the pup was to the brunette. It made him wonder if something was going on between Bella and Jacob. He really hoped not, because he had never seen his daughter so happy than when she was with her boyfriend.
He watched her sit in silence for a while longer, him taking a sip of coffee and a bite of fried egg. When he watched her dunk her spoon into the milk left in her cereal bowl for a fifth time, he finally just asked, "What's wrong, kiddo?"
Bella blinked in surprise and looked up at her father's aura, obviously surprised by the sudden question. Shaking her head she answered, "Nothing dad."
"Don't lie to me, Bella. I know something is the matter. Is it Jacob?"
"No, no, it's not Jake." She was surprised that he thought something was amiss between the two of them. "Jake has been great, really."
"Then what is it?" At seeing Bella's hesitance to answer, Charlie then asked, "Is it Cullen?"
Not wanting to answer, but not wanting to lie either, Bella bit her lip and nodded. Charlie frowned and asked, "Is he not abiding by the restraining order I slapped on him?"
His answer was another shake of Bella's head, along with Shadow growling from his place underneath the table. Cursing, Charlie stood up and walked over to he phone, taking it off the hook and began dialing. Bella frowned and asked him what he was doing, only to be shocked when he said that he was calling the station to go and have Edward arrested. Knowing that wouldn't do, she quickly stood up and shouted, "Wait! Wait, dad stop! I'm having it dealt with as we speak!"
The police chief looked at his daughter in confusion. "What do you mean?"
The brunette took a deep breath and began to speak. "Carlisle was getting concerned about Edward not leaving me alone, especially with him not doing as the restraining order says. So, to stop him and help me out, he called up a high class lawyer."
"Dr. Cullen got a lawyer to go represent you and go against his own son?"
"Yes, and he said that he would get things straightened out."
"And you believe him?"
"Yes." She had to. She had to believe Aro was going to keep his word.
Charlie was silent for a moment before nodding and putting the phone back on the hook. He walked back over to the table and sat down before taking another sip of his coffee. Placing the mug back on the table he said, "I like that. And this hot shot lawyer better does as he says. And when he does, I'd like to shake his hand."
Bella looked off to the side and nodded, softly saying, "He will. He'll stop Edward, he promised that."
Later that afternoon, Bella and Angela were hanging out at the Webber home, the two of them in her room while Angela's mother was downstairs with her twin brothers. They were discussing their class schedules for the new school year that they had received in the mail that morning and were happy to find out they had almost all classes together. Shadow was curled up on the rug by the bed, eyes closed as he rested, content in hearing his mistress talking and giggling with her mate's brother's mate.
Angela looked up from where she was dividing her notebook for class notes and said, "By the way, I have to tell you something."
"What is it?" Bella asked, her finger going over the Braille notes that had accompanied her class schedule detailing future accommodations for her in class settings.
"Well, I was hanging out with Embry yesterday and…" A bright blush appeared on Angela's face. "He asked me out on a date."
Bella gasped in excitement and grinned before asking, "Did you say 'yes'?"
Nodding, Angela answered with a bright smile, "I did. He's picking me up tonight about seven-thirty. Bella, I'm so excited for this!"
The two girls squealed and giggled, Shadow looking up at them and letting out a happy bark, though not understanding what was causing the happy reaction. The two girls immediately set to finding an outfit for Angela to wear on her date, though the most Bella could do was go by the feel of the material of each outfit Angela would put in her lap. After about fifteen minutes of searching for an outfit, Angela suddenly paused in her search, looking down at the floor while fiddling with a pale green dress.
Bella, noticing Angela's pink aura dimming a bit, frowned and asked, "What's the matter, Ang?"
Biting her lip, Angela suddenly asked, "You don't think it will matter to Embry that I'm not…that I'm not pure anymore, will it?"
Chocolate brown eyes widened in shock, Bella asking, "You're not a virgin anymore?"
"No, I'm not. Ben and I…we did it prom night, and while it was good, it wasn't great. We never did it again after that, and I haven't told anyone; you're the first person I've told. I don't particularly believe in waiting until marriage, but I do believe in giving myself to the right person, and I think I was too hasty in my decision to do so. Ben was great, he really was, but what I'm feeling for Embry is ten times more than I ever felt for Ben. And Embry is still a virgin, I'm sure of that, and I don't want him to think less of me if he finds out that I'm not, should we ever get to that point. You know what I mean?"
"Angela, you can't beat yourself up about that. You gave your virginity to Ben because you guys were dating, and he was your first love. And it was probably a special time for you as well. There's nothing wrong with you not being a virgin anymore, but don't let that define you. It's not like you're like Lauren."
A giggle escaped Angela's lips. "That's true. I don't ever want to be like her."
"Neither do I. And Embry is such a sweet and understanding guy, just like you. He'll understand if you ever tell him, and I'm sure he won't mind. But I wouldn't worry about that right now. You guys are just now starting to date and it's too early to even be thinking about that. Just take it one step at a time."
The bespectacled girl smiled at her friend. "Thanks Bella, that means a lot. And you're right, it's silly for me to start thinking about that right now. I highly doubt Embry is even thinking of doing that just yet. Well, at least for the time being."
Bella laughed and nodded, though stopped when Angela asked if she and Edward had had sex while they dated. When she asked her to repeat the question and Angela did, Bella answered, "No, we didn't. It wasn't something I was interested in at the time, and Edward was pretty much scared to touch me."
"What? Why?" Angela asked.
"Because…because he was scared he was going to hurt me."
Angela nodded. "And Jacob? Would you give yourself to Jacob?"
The brunette simply smiled and nodded. "Yes, I would. Whenever that time arrives, I will willingly give myself to Jake. I love him and I know I won't ever regret it."
Angela was happy to see her friend so happy and in love. She also knew that Jacob was good for Bella and loved her unconditionally, never mind the fact she was blind now. He was so different from Edward and brought out the best in Bella, not seeming to suppress her true nature like her crazy stalker ex had. She really hoped they stayed together forever.
Deciding to get back to finding and outfit, the two girls went back to searching through Angela's closet until they finally found the perfect dress for her date with Embry. However, as they did, their talk got Bella thinking. It made her wonder was she ready to have sex with Jacob. Or rather, was she ready to have sex in general. She knew she'd be safe with Jacob and that he'd be gentle and would make sure she was comfortable, but the question remained: Was she ready to take that step? And furthermore, was Jacob?
Author's Note: So sorry this chapter is so late! Work has kept me busy, but I finally have a fixed schedule, so hopefully I shouldn't be as tired as before.
