The Doctor flew above the city, looking down at all the humans, going about their busy lives. He usually enjoyed a peaceful flight, but the city was so busy he couldn't relax. He swerved around to make his way back to Rose's flat.
Flashing lights caught his eye in the sea of lights. He looked at the red and blue flashing lights of police cars chasing someone. The police looked like they were having a hard time just keeping up with the offender. The Doctor knew he shouldn't, but he couldn't resist.
He turned toward the cars and picked up his speed. He sped up until he was about the same speed as the chase and dove toward them. He flew above the police cars and buzzed his sonic screwdriver at the fleeing car. The trunk popped open, revealing bags of money and blocking the driver's view of the police.
The Doctor pushed himself and flew toward the getaway car. He flew directly above it, struggling to stay perfectly in line with it. He carefully grabbed the roof and lay on top of the speeding car. He looked in the front window with a grin. The thieves looked stunned. The Doctor mouthed 'you have the right to remain silent'. The driver swerved back and forth, trying to knock the Doctor off, and slowing them down.
The Doctor lifted his head and flew off. He flew away from the chase, swerved back, and dove toward them even faster. The passenger in the getaway car opened his window and climbed out, holding a gun. He looked surprised to see the Doctor wasn't on the roof anymore and looked even more surprised to see the Doctor zooming toward him. Before he could react, the Doctor ripped the gun out of his hands as he flew by. He threw the gun away.
He swerved back around and realized one of the policemen was leaning out his window, holding a megaphone.
"Sir! Whoever you are, stay out of this! Leave it to the police!"
The Doctor flew toward the policeman and snatched the megaphone out of his hands. "Too bad!" he shouted through the megaphone. He flew above the chase again, catching up to the criminals.
The one with the gun leaned out his window with another gun, aiming it at the Doctor. The Doctor flew up out of reach. The man aimed at him a little longer, then decided to aim at the police. The Doctor dove down in front of the car and threw the megaphone at the crook. It hit the back of his head and he dropped the gun. The Doctor shot after the megaphone and caught it before it hit the ground.
The cars zoomed past him and he flew up and dove back down to the cars. He buzzed his sonic screwdriver and opened the trunk of the last police car. He dropped the megaphone inside and closed the trunk.
He flew beside the window of the police car. "Make a roadblock!" he shouted.
The policeman rolled down the window. The Doctor struggled to stay in line with the car.
"Stay out of this! We don't want you to get hurt!"
"Make a roadblock!"
"What for?"
"Trust me!" He dodged a lamppost and zoomed back toward the fleeing car, having second thoughts about getting involved.
He flew behind the escaping car and grabbed some bags of money out of the back. He flew in front of the car and taunted the crooks with their money bags. The driver chased him. He turned a corner to test if they were really chasing him and they were. Only one police car was chasing them. The rest must've listened to him and created a roadblock.
The car seemed to speed up. The Doctor struggled to stay ahead. The moneybags weighed him down. He led the criminals, twisting around the city. He led them in a winding circle and flew back toward the police roadblock. He was running out of energy and struggled to stay ahead. He spotted the roadblock and flew over the police. The offender slammed the brakes. More police cars appeared behind them.
The Doctor floated down behind the police, panting. "Here you go," he said, handing the moneybags over.
"That was very dangerous and foolish of you!" a policewoman said.
"You're welcome." The Doctor walked away. "But you're right. Don't expect my help again. Super Doctor is retired."
"Wait! We need to know who you are."
"Some of the most powerful creatures in the universe are after that information. They're never gonna get it." He jumped and flapped his arms, but he just floated back to the ground. He groaned.
"Are you all right? Are you hurt?"
"No, I'm just out of energy. Guess I'm walking home."
The policewoman followed him. "I'm not letting you go."
He groaned again. "Sorry." He jumped and flapped his arms, concentrating with all his mind. He grunted as he flew upward.
"Stop!" The policewoman jumped to grab him and just barely missed.
The Doctor let out a sigh of relief and kept flapping.
"Come back! We need to know who you are!"
The Doctor pulled himself onto the roof of a building and collapsed, exhausted. His relaxing flight above the city had gone horribly astray. He couldn't help grinning and laughing at himself.
"Doctor! Get in here right now!" Rose shouted.
The Doctor sauntered into the sitting room, his hands in his pockets. "Hm?"
Rose glared at him. "What on Earth do you think you're doing?!" She pointed at the TV, playing footage of him flying around and harassing the crooks. "'Mystery Flying Man Catches Crooks?' 'Does London Have its own Superhero?!'"
The Doctor watched the screen casually. "Huh. Wonder who that brave hero is."
"Doctor! You can't just go flying about confronting criminals!"
"What do you want from me? An apology?"
"You can't just decide to be a superhero on your own! You have to take me with you!"
The Doctor gave her a look.
She couldn't keep a straight face and grinned. She hugged him. "Please?"
"Super Doctor's retired."
She slapped his shoulder. "And I didn't even get to be your sidekick?!"
