Eyes Wide Open
Chapter 29
Ever since her talk with Angela, Bella had been seriously thinking about taking the next step with Jacob, about having sex with him. And not just that, but if she was seriously ready for it. She kept going back and forth between not being ready and being ready to go for it. She knew she was ready because it was Jacob, because it would be with the one that loved more than anything, but not ready because she was scared. It would be her first time, and it was a big deal, but she wouldn't know if it would be Jacob's.
Her boyfriend was very handsome and had a sexy body, and it wouldn't surprise her if many girls had thrown themselves at him and he'd taken them up on their offers of their body before they had gotten together. And it made her wonder that if he had, did there leave any room for her. She wasn't pretty by any means; she was rather plain, super plain. She didn't wear makeup, she didn't dress up, she didn't put herself out there, and her confidence and self-esteem were nonexistent for the most part. What was it about her that drew Jacob in? With Edward, it had been the scent of her blood and the fact he couldn't read her mind. But Jacob, she didn't know. She had a lot to be desired about herself, especially now that she was blind. And yet, Jacob loved her whole-heartedly and wanted just her and everything that she came with, no matter what.
A cold, wet nose brought her out of her musings, causing her to smile and place her hand on the furry head of her pet. Rubbing Shadow's head, she said softly, "Hi boy. I'm alright, really. I'm just thinking about something."
Shadow let out a low whine before laying his head in her lap. Bella smiled and bent down to kiss his head, wrapping her arms around him and hugging him. Shadow let out a contented noise, enjoying the cuddling his mistress was bestowing upon him. His mistress had been doing better ever since her meeting with those foul creatures, though had been seemingly quiet and thinking about something. He had a feeling it had to do with her mate, but it was something between them and didn't involve him, so he'd let them work it out. They always seemed to, and he liked that his mistress and her mate seemed to be stronger together. And like he knew he always would, whenever her mate wasn't around to protect her, he was the next best protector and he would protect his mistress, come hell or high water.
The brunette and the black Lab sat together in silence for a while before the sound of a horn honking caught their attention. Frowning, Bella stood up, making Shadow lift his head off her lap, and walked towards the front door, foregoing her white stick since she knew the layout of her house pretty well by now. Reaching the front door, she opened it and the screen, smiling when she saw the golden aura that was Jacob.
"Jake, what are you doing?" Bella asked, hands on her hips as she looked his way.
Jacob grinned before making his way towards her, wrapping his strong arms around her small frame and holding her close. Kissing her supple lips he answered, "I've come to see you. I can come see my favorite girl, can't I?"
Bella blushed but smiled nonetheless. "Of course, you can and you know you're always welcome without an invitation."
"Good." Jacob kissed her once more before leading her back inside her home. "I've finished my patrol shift for the night and got Sam and Embry on patrol now. And I heard from Billy that Charlie is working late, so that means you're by yourself tonight."
"Not really, I've got Shadow with me."
At hearing his name, Shadow barked and bounded towards the couple, jumping up on Jacob and licking his face, wagging his tail excitedly and Jacob laughed and returned his affections.
After giving Shadow all the love and attention he demanded, Jacob looked back at his girlfriend and Imprint saying, "That may be true, but you can't say that you don't enjoy my company too."
Bella nodded her head. "Yeah, that too."
Chuckling, Jacob led Bella back into the living room where she was sitting, settling them on the couch while Shadow jumped into Charlie's recliner, making himself comfortable. The couple sat in a comfortable silence, though Jacob had the feeling that something was bothering Bella. Holding her close he asked, "What's wrong, Bells?"
With wide eyes, Bella asked, "What makes you think something is wrong?"
"Come on Bells, I know you better than that. There's something on your mind that has your undivided attention. I've noticed it ever since that day you visited after helping Angela prepare for her date with Embry, which I heard was a success by the way."
With a small smile, Bella replied, "It was, Angela couldn't wait to tell me all about it; she woke me up out of my sleep. But yeah, something has been on my mind lately, though I'm not sure if it's appropriate to speak about now."
Somewhat alarmed by her words, Jacob asked, "What do you mean?"
Bella hesitated for a moment before saying, "Well, it has to do with a talk Angela and I had that day, a talk about…about first times."
She ended her sentence in a near whisper, ducking her head and hiding her flaming red face behind her hair. Even though she couldn't see Jacob's face, she didn't necessarily want him to see her face as well. Having this conversation was embarrassing enough, despite the fact she believed they needed to go ahead and have it. And what was a better time than now while they were alone?
Jacob was silent for a moment before asking for clarification, "Are you…are you trying to tell me that you're ready for…that?"
"Not exactly. But I do know that…that I want to do it with you."
A blush appeared on Jacob's face. "Bells…"
"Of course, I'm not saying we have to do it right away or anything, but I just wanted to let you know that when I am ready, or when we're ready, you're the only person I want to do it with. I love you Jake, and I wouldn't want to take such a big step with anyone else but you. And it will be my first time and I want it to be special, and I know it will be because it will be with you. And you probably have experience that I don't, but that's okay. So long as I'm with you, I know everything will be alright."
That was a bold speech coming from her, and though her face was a fiery red, she felt her words were right and that she spoke from her heart. Silence followed her words and seemed to stretch on for a long while, making her feel more even more anxious and embarrassed. Just when she was about to tell Jacob to forget about what she said, the Shifter wrapped his arms around her and held her close, burying his face into her neck.
A slight chuckle escaped his lips before he softly said, "Gosh Bells, that's…that sure is something to say. And I feel honored that I'm the one you would be willing to give your virginity to me."
The brunette wrapped her arms around Jacob as well. "I love you, Jake."
"I love you too, honey. But there is one thing you're wrong about."
"What's that?"
"I don't have any experience either, so it'd be my first time, too. And I wouldn't want to give myself to anyone but you."
Tears filled unseeing chocolate brown eyes, Bella feeling so touched by her boyfriend's words. Sniffling a little, she whispered, "Me too. Oh Jacob Black, I love you so much."
"Me too, Bella Swan, me too."
Bella pulled away from Jacob's embrace, only to plant her lips against his passionately. Jacob returned it with just as much passion, gently cupping her face as her hands fisted his shirt. Their kisses soon turned heated and Jacob soon moved his lips from Bella's pink ones, to pressing kisses to her cheek, then her jawline, and then finally her neck. Bella gasped softly at the feel of his lips on her neck, but she then shuddered and softly moaned as he began lightly sucking on the pale column. His hands fell to her waist, gripping it firmly before pulling her closer to him, pressing her against him. Bella gasped again, feeling something slightly hard pressed against her hip. Gripping his short hair, the brunette brought Jacob's lips back to her own, devouring them before falling back onto the couch, pulling Jacob on top of her. Their hands slid up and down each other's bodies, wanting to touch and feel each other.
Jacob had just moved his lips back down to back down to Bella's neck and had started sucking on it, when a sudden weight leapt onto his back, catching him by surprise before a long, wet tongue licked up his face. Grimacing, Jacob turned his head and glared at Shadow who was staring at him innocently. The black Lab then pushed his way between the two bodies and settled on top of his mistress, looking at Jacob as if to tell him to back off a little.
"Seriously?" Jacob grumbled, Shadow barking in response and causing Bella to laugh.
Bella rubbed Shadow's head before sitting up, holding the pup to her. "It's probably for the best anyway. Besides, Charlie will come home eventually, and we don't want to be caught in a compromising position."
He knew she was right, and he really didn't want to look down the barrel of one of the police chief's shotguns, no matter how much the older man liked him. Leaning over, he kissed Bella's lips and said, "Well, I guess it's alright. And I'm still welcome to stay, right?"
"Of course," she replied with a smile.
The two of them settled on the couch, Shadow sitting between them, and watched the television, though Bella simply listened to it. And the three of them were content to do so, though the couple did wish that the loyal dog between them hadn't interrupted their moment. But it did excite Bella, because to her, it was a glimpse into what was to come in the future, and she found herself looking forward to it.
Edward grunted as he smashed into a tree, collapsing under his marble body. He sat up off the ground and looked at the figure slowly walking towards him, black cape flowing behind him, red eyes shining in the moonlight. Letting out an unnecessary huff, he asked, "Why are you doing this?"
Aro stopped in front of him, staring down at him with an unreadable expression. His mind was closed off to Edward, making the mind-reader unable to ready his thoughts. Edward didn't understand why Aro was attacking him, and seemingly unprovoked. He had been fighting the older vampire for the past ten minutes, and he was really giving him a hard time.
The vampire king suddenly smirked at him and answered, "Because I was asked to."
"By whom?"
"By two people. From my understanding, you've been terrorizing a young human girl, a girl that is trying to rid her life of you and you won't leave her be."
Bella? He was doing this because of Bella?
Standing Edward asked, "You mean to tell me that Bella asked you to stop me from seeing her?"
Aro gave a little shrug. "Her, and my dear friend Carlisle. Imagine my surprise when he contacted me about the little problem you are stirring up for not only Isabella and your family, but also in this little community of Forks. The talk of the great doctor's son stalking the police chief's daughter and foregoing his restraining order is not a good look for anyone, especially our kind when our secret is at stake. And you know I can't have any problems for me to deal with, even from one of my personal favorites."
He then looked at him hardly, red eyes showing nothing but complete seriousness. "Now Edward, I will say this once, and you will make your decision now. Leave Isabella alone for good and stay out of her life forever or suffer the wrath of the Volturi guard."
At those words, four figures emerged from the shadows, the figures turning out to be Jane, Alec, Felix, and Demetri. Edward looked around at them, finding himself surrounded. He couldn't believe that this was what his sire, his father-figure, had resulted to. Carlisle knew that Bella was his mate and that she belonged with and to him, so why was he doing this to him? Why was he making sure he was unhappy? Well, Carlisle was wrong. Bella was his and always would be.
Glaring at Aro he hissed out, "Never. I'll never give up Bella. She's mine."
Aro pursed his lips, afraid that Edward was going to be difficult concerning this human girl. Nodding his head, he said, "Very well then. Have it your way."
Snapping his fingers, he said, "Felix, Demetri."
The two vampires smirked and charged Edward, both of them attempting to grab him, though Edward was quicker in evading them. Even so, the two didn't relent and continued their chase and attack on Edward. The twins watched the silly little dance for a while before Alec looked at Jane and said, "Sister."
Jane smirked evilly as her red eyes zeroed in on Edward Cullen. Oh, how she had been waiting for this day. In a soft, gleeful voice, she said clear as a bell, "Pain."
The screams Edward let out as he crumbled to the ground and writhed around filled the night air, Aro watching the scene before him with detached, disinterested eyes.
