Eyes Wide Open

Chapter 31

Life went on for Bella following her meeting with Aro and the Cullens' departure. She started her senior year and was excelling in all of her classes, using a tape recorder to record all of her lectures and copies of Angela's notes that were translated in Braille for her to study. Navigation through the school had gone well as well, though Shadow was sad that he couldn't come to school with her to help her. He however, got to spend every day with Jacob until time to pick her up when the school day was over.

She did have a bit of trouble with Lauren Mallory upon returning to school. The irritating blonde thought she could taunt and tease Bella for no longer having the gift of sight, calling her a blind bat and an old woman for having to use a white stick. Bella simply ignored her for the most part, not giving Lauren the time of day with a response. However, she finally decided to nip Lauren's taunting in the bud during lunch when she had decided to stand behind Bella to continue her verbal assault, only for Bella to take her white stick and jab it into her stomach before slamming it down on her foot and up into her chin. When Lauren, with a bloody mouth, had attempted to physically attack her after that, Bella had whipped her white stick around sharply and smashed it right into Lauren's cheekbone, cutting her eye in the process, all from her seated position at the lunch table. Everyone had cheered for Bella and commending her for standing up to Lauren, though it didn't change the fact that they were both given detention sent home early. Bella had contacted both her father and Jacob to tell them what had happened, to which Charlie said he'd handle Lauren's father in the event he decided to attempt to press charges, and Jacob had told her he'd pick her up. While waiting, Lauren had tried once again to start with Bella, but stopped and flinched when Bella lifted her white stick and waved it a bit. The blonde's eyes had widened further upon seeing the piece of man meat that picked the brunette up, even more so when she saw that they were a couple. Needless to say, Lauren didn't mess with Bella much if at all after that.

As for Bella's home life, it honestly couldn't have been better. Her relationship with Charlie was better than ever, both spending a lot of quality father-daughter time together. Bella started cooking at home again (admittedly a scary prospect with her not being able to see), though had some help from Charlie as to not harm herself. And in the process, Charlie himself learned the basics of cooking; now if only he could bake. Another great thing that had happened at home—well, Bella thought it was great—was that Charlie had taken an interest in one of the workers at the local pharmacy by the name of Natalie. She was a kind woman that had gone to school with Charlie, being a grade under him, with very curly hair (a natural redhead according to Charlie) and the most sparkling blue eyes he's ever seen, with the cutest smattering of freckles across her nose and onto her cheeks. Of course, that was how her father had described her to Bella and Bella thought it was kind of cute the way Charlie sounded so smitten over her, though embarrassed that he hadn't remembered her from school at first. With some encouragement from his daughter and best friend, Charlie had asked Natalie out on a date or two, and the two were very compatible. She had even taken a liking to Bella, Bella doing the same to her, and two months later, Charlie and Natalie were an item. She didn't replace the mother figure Ms. Opal was to Bella, but Bella liked having her around, though she made it a point to be on the Reservation whenever she found out Natalie would be spending the night at the Swan residence.

Her relationship with Jacob was also stronger than ever before. Their love was so pure and sweet, many people believing that they were meant for each other. Jacob would always say that he had always known since they were kids that he and Bella belonged together, to which Bella would simply smile and agree. After all, they were joined at the hip whenever she visited Forks before Renee had stopped her visits altogether before she moved back. The Imprint between them also helped to strengthen their relationship as well. Not to say that they didn't fight like other couples, because they did, but they also made it a point to not go to bed angry with one another if they could help it. Though sometimes, they could be so stubborn that their conflict wouldn't be resolved until the next day or the day after. Even so, it didn't change how Jacob and Bella felt about each other, and they continued to love each other deeply and dearly.

Another thing that had brought a bright moment into Bella's life was that in early April, Ms. Opal and Randall welcomed their baby into the world, a precious baby boy that they named Zachariah, Zach for short. He was the most adorable baby and though Bella couldn't physically see him, she knew that he would be just like his mother because he held the same blue colored aura Ms. Opal had. The doctor had told the Phillips' that after Zach they most likely wouldn't be able to conceive again due to Ms. Opal's age, but they were alright with that. After all, they had gotten their precious little bundle of joy and that was a blessing in itself, a blessing that they didn't think they would ever have. Therefore, they were happy and Bella was happy for them. Yes, life had finally returned to normal and it was good. Therefore, it wasn't a surprise that spring break came upon Bella faster than she thought or was prepared for.

Bella sat outside in the warm sun during lunch with her group of friends, all of them laughing and conversing together. They were all discussing the topic of spring break and speaking of what they planned to do for the week off from school and studying. Tyler, Ben, and Eric were planning on heading down to Miami, Florida to "party it up", though Ben was going reluctantly and because he lost a bet to Eric. Jessica and Mike were going to Hollywood, California to see the Hollywood Walk of Fame and to see the sites.

"And to enjoy ourselves thoroughly, if you know what I mean," Jessica had said with a sly grin.

When asked, Angela stated she would be staying in Forks as she promised to help her parents out at their church, but also made plans and time to spend with Embry. Embry and Angela's relationship was so adorable to Bella and was a good, strong one. However, Bella had wondered when and if Embry was going to tell Angela his secret of being a wolf Shifter. Jacob had told her that Embry had already spoken to him about it and had gotten his blessing to tell the bespectacled girl when he was ready. The two had spent New Year's Eve together and that was when Embry had decided to come clean to Angela about himself. Angela, being the practical girl that she was, hadn't believed him at first. But upon seeing her boyfriend turn into a bear sized wolf, it definitely made her believe. That had led into a whole discussion about the nature of vampires and werewolves and Bella's involvement and secret-keeping of it all. Upon finding this out, Angela had felt somewhat hurt that Bella hadn't confided in her all this information, but also understood it wasn't her secret to tell. Embry had been afraid Angela would break up with him behind it, but surprisingly, Angela decided that she still wanted to be with him and didn't mind being the girlfriend to a wolf Shifter. She had stated that it didn't change the person that Embry was that she wanted to be with him no matter who or what he was.

The group then turned to Bella, Mike asking, "What about you, Bella? What will you be doing for spring break?"

"Me?" Bella asked.

She thought about what she could do for spring break. It was a time to let loose and have fun, a break away from school before having to buckle down on studies, especially with it being her senior year. She had graduation to think about as well. But spring break…what could she do? As soon as that thought crossed her mind, her mind suddenly thought back to her last visit to the Cullen mansion, the visit where Aro had told her to come to Volterra, Italy. Gasping in shock at the sudden memory, Bella said softly, "Italy."

"What was that?" Jessica asked with a frown.

Bella let out a nervous laugh before stammering, "A-Actually, I'm g-going to be going on v-vacation. Vacation t-to I-Italy."

"Italy?" the group asked in unison, surprise evident in their voices.

"Y-Yeah, Italy. I um, I have family I'm meeting there. F-From mom's side." Standing abruptly, Bella grabbed her bag and made an excuse to head back inside. She walked away quickly, heading back into the school while pulling out her cellphone. She quickly pressed speed dial for Jacob and held the device to her ear, waiting anxiously for her boyfriend to answer.

Eventually, the call was answered because Jacob's voice filled her ear, greeting her lovingly as he said, "Hey honey! How are you?"

"Jake, I need you to come get me from school right now," Bella said cutting to the chase. "I just realized something and I'm close to having some sort of crisis about it."

"Why? What happened?"

Taking a deep breath, Bella answered, "It's spring break, Jake. Remember what I'm supposed to do for spring break?"

"I can't believe we're actually on a plane to Volterra right now," Jacob said from his seat next to Bella on the plane currently carrying them to Italy.

"Yeah, me neither," Bella replied from her window seat.

After she had called Jacob that day at school, the two of them had a deep discussion about going to Volterra as Aro had asked. Jacob hadn't wanted her to, saying that she didn't owe him anything and that she shouldn't even be considering going. However, Bella did believe that she at least owed Aro this visit. He had taken care of Edward for her, after all. Not only that, but he had spared her life, including those of Jacob, the Pack, and the Cullens. He didn't have to do that and yet he did, and all he asked of her was to come to Volterra for a visit during her spring break. As much as she hadn't wanted to, she believed she at least owed the vampire king this small service, even though the thought of doing so made a chill run down her spine. Besides, he said he'd have a surprise for her.

Sighing, Bella leant back in her seat and said, "I can't believe Charlie was alright with me traveling to another country for a week. Not only that, but he allowed you to go."

"Well, he's got Natalie to distract him for one, and I think he trusts me to not do anything unsavory to you without your consent," Jacob replied, smiling when his Imprint blushed.

"Hush Jake, before someone hears you," Bella admonished in a near whisper, Jacob only laughing in response.

Before Bella knew it, they were flying across the border into Italy, the flight attendant's voice telling the passengers that they were soon to be landing in Italy upon their descent out of the sky. Bella took a deep breath and held tighter to Jacob's hand that she had been holding for most of the ride. It wouldn't be long now. Soon she'd be facing Aro again in Volterra; not only him, but his two royal brothers as well and his guard. Who knew what was going to happen upon her stepping on their turf?

Jacob stepped out of the taxi onto the sidewalk, helping Bella out as well while looking around. Looking up at the large castle, Jacob couldn't help but find this fitting for a bunch of vampires and their kings. He heard Bella thank the cab driver before the door shut and the taxi drove away. Bella stepped next to him and asked, "Is this the place?"

"It looks like it," Jacob replied.

The brunette took in a deep breath before nodding, extending her white stick and tapping it against the ground, looking up at Jacob and saying, "Okay, I'm ready."

Nodding, Jacob took hold of Bella's hand and walked with her to the entrance of the castle muttering, "The faster we can get this over with, the faster we can get back to the hotel."

Stepping up to the door, Jacob looked around for a moment before deciding to knock on the door, the sound echoing inside the building. Soon the door was opened and revealed a boy with brown hair that looked no more than fourteen, but the couple instantly knew he was a vampire, Jacob being able to smell him before he had even opened the door and Bella seeing his dark aura. The vampire looked at them with his red eyes for a moment before asking, "The human Isabella, I assume?"

"Y-Yes," Bella stammered. Clearing her throat, she said, "Aro should be expecting me. He asked me to come when he visited Forks last year."

The vampire, Alec, nodded before ushering them inside, the door closing behind them with a rather loud 'thud' causing Bella to jump. They followed Alec down a long corridor until they entered a large throne room. Seated upon three thrones in the center of the room was Aro, Caius, and Marcus. Aro smiled at their guests and stood from his throne saying, "Young Jacob, Isabella, welcome to Volterra."

Bella nodded and replied, "Thank you."

Marcus stared at the couple intently, observing their bond and just how strong it was. Caius glared at Jacob, being able to smell wet dog on him, believing him to be a Child of the Moon though there was no proof of that. Not only that, but if Aro was being kind to him and tolerating him, then he couldn't do anything against the head king without facing some form of consequence.

Aro stepped down towards them and took Bella's hand, catching her white stick that he caused her to drop, smiling at the fact that he could not read her mind. Yes, she surely was intriguing for a human and he had already thought of the kind of vampire she would be if she wished to be one. However, she did not, and he did not wish to incite a war. Kissing the back of her hand he said, "Isabella, you've come to receive your present from me. Please, follow me."

Bella took her white stick from Aro and began to follow the vampire, Jacob doing the same only to be stopped by Felix and Demetri. Glaring at them he hissed, "Let me through."

"Aro said only the human," Demetri said.

"Yes, he didn't call for the dog to follow," Felix added with a grin.

Jacob growled at them before his eyes drifted to Bella who was disappearing around a corner with Aro. Looking back at the other vampires in the room, he couldn't help but hope Aro had told them not to touch him. Especially with the way the blond one on the thrown was glowering at him, he really hoped so.

Aro led Bella into a room and asked her to take a seat. Bella did so and was surprised to be tilted back. Eyes wide she asked, "What is the surprise?"

"You will see in a moment, Isabella. Now just relax," Aro said as he fiddled around in a drawer.

Bella tried her best to relax, but she was so nervous. She had no idea what Aro had planned as a surprise and she was in a room alone with him because Jacob hadn't been allowed to come. She wished she had convinced Charlie to allow Shadow to come too to be with her, but he had stated that flying would make the dog anxious. Even so, she wished she had her companion with her since Jacob couldn't be.

A knock on the door startled her, Aro's voice telling whoever it was to enter. She heard the door open followed by Aro saying, "Ah, I was wondering when you two would turn up. Please, stand by Isabella and grant her comfort while I prepare this."

Two pairs of cold hands grabbed hers, causing Bella to jerk them back reflexively. A familiar voice gently shushed her before saying, "It's alright dear, it's just us."

"Esme?" Bella asked.

"Yes, it's me, and Carlisle is here too."

"It's good to see you again, Bella," Carlisle told her with a smile on his face.

Bella smiled and gave their hands squeezes before asking them how things had been for the past few months. She was happy to hear that they had adjusted to life in Volterra and were doing well. When she asked them about Alice and Jasper, they told her that Aro had sent them off to France to check in with the Volturi branch there, though Bella suspected it was to keep Alice away from her. Finally, she asked them about Edward, but neither vampire answered her.

Aro, done with what he was doing and holding a dropper in his hand said, "He's still in the suitcase I placed him in, and he will stay that was for the next fifty years. Now Isabella, simply relax and keep your eyes open."

Bella took a deep breath and did what Aro asked, though not entirely sure what it was he was going to do. She kept her eyes open even as she saw Aro's aura peer down over her, flinching a little as he placed his fingers on her face, widening her eyes a bit more. The next thing she knew, she felt something cold and wet drop into her eyes, causing her to blink rapidly before her eyes began to burn. Feeling like they were on fire, Bella slammed her hands over her eyes and groaned in pain, pressing her palms against them to stop the burning, but it only intensified. Not being able to bear it anymore, she screamed in pain and tried to claw her eyes out, desperate for the pain to stop. Unfortunately, her hands were grabbed and pulled away from her face, keeping them pinned by her sides while she struggled to break her wrists free. Esme was trying to calm her down with soothing words while Carlisle was talking calmly to her, telling her it would be over soon. And all the while, Aro stood back watching the scene, a smile on his face.

Tears streamed down her face as Bella wished for the pain to end. She didn't know what Aro had done, but she wished he hadn't. Sobs escaped her throat as she was forced to lay there, her eyes on fire and she couldn't do anything about it. After what felt like eternity, the burning pain finally began to subside, but Bella was afraid to open her eyes. She panted and took deep breaths as it continued to subside and let out a small sigh of relief when she felt a cool compress laid over her closed eyes. Cold lips pressed against her forehead in a kiss before Esme's voice said, "Enjoy your life Bella, and live happily."

"Yes, and we'll always love you," Carlisle said before the sound of them leaving was heard.

Not only after they left, the door burst open again, this time Jacob's voice yelled, "What the hell did you do?!"

Aro simply smiled and answered, "Gave Bella back a gift that she had lost."

Jacob glared at him and rushed to Bella, helping her to sit up and took the cool compress from her eyes. Gently taking her face in hand, he looked at her and said, "Bells, honey. Bella, open your eyes. Are you okay? What happened? What did he do to you?"

Bella slowly opened her eyes, her chocolate brown eyes looking at him, though the whites of her eyes were still red. She blinked before her eyes widened and tears filled them, spilling down her cheeks once again. Alarmed, Jacob asked worriedly, "Bella, what's wrong? Why are you crying?"

"Because I can see you," Bella replied in awe. Crying she said, "I can see all of you. I can see again, Jake."

Jacob's eyes widened before tears filled his own eyes. He pressed his lips against Bella's lovingly before hugging her close, rocking her as she cried happily into his shoulder. Her sight, she had it back. Bella could see again, and all thanks to the vamp that was making his way out of the room to give them privacy. It amazed him how one vampire caused her to lose her eyesight, and another one gave it back to her. Bella's unseeing eyes could see once again.

Pulling away to kiss her once more, Jacob whispered, "I love you, honey."

Bella smiled and replied softly, "I love you, too."

"Now let's get out of here."

"But I've got to thank Aro."

"You will, and then we're going back to the hotel to celebrate."

Bella blushed saying, "You just want to get in my pants."

Jacob grinned at her saying, "You've known this for months, but we've never had time along together to do so. And don't pretend like you don't want to either."

Grinning, Bella shrugged but didn't deny it. The couple laughed before getting off the seat and leaving the room, making their way back to the throne room to say 'goodbye' to their hosts and get back to their hotel. Bella couldn't wait to not only see everything around her once again, but to also thoroughly enjoy herself with Jacob.

The moment they were inside their hotel room, Jacob and Bella were instantly on each other. They kissed passionately as they stumbled their way to the bed, Jacob picking Bella up and wrapping her legs around his waist before crawling onto the bed, his lips attached to her neck as he did so. The brunette moaned in pleasure as Jacob laid her down on her back, moving his lips back to her own to kiss her breathless. Bella ran her fingers through Jacob's short hair as his hands slid down her body and settled on her waist.

Looking into his beautiful brown eyes in what was a long time, Bella panted out, "Jake please, I want you."

Jacob grinned and nodded, quickly taking off her clothes and his, leaving them both stark naked. They had fooled around a lot in the past couple of months, having seen and felt each other naked, having brought each other to orgasm as they figured out what the other like, but never having gone all the way. But this time was different. This time, they'd take their relationship all the way to the next level. They would become one together, giving themselves to each other completely.

Lips trailed down her naked body, leaving a hot trail along her skin as they went from her neck, down the valley of her breasts to her navel, and finally lower. She gasped as his lips touched her sensitive area, moaning as he licked her lower lips and sucked on her hidden pearl. Time felt as if it had been suspended, but the feeling of pleasure continued. Her moans and gasps filled the hotel room, the sound music to her lover's ears. Right when she was on the brink of orgasm, Jacob pulled away, making her groan in frustration and glare at him. Jacob chuckled as he climbed on top of Bella, settling between her legs and gently sliding into her warm cavern.

Twins moans filled the air at the feeling of being filled and surrounded. Pale arms wrapped around strong, broad shoulders as Jacob began moving, slowly thrusting into her to get her used to the feeling, all the while bringing plenty of pleasure to his Imprint. For Bella, it felt simply glorious, the best thing she had ever felt in her life pleasure-wise. The same could be said for Jacob, and his heart pounded at the knowledge of committing such an act with the love of his life. Soon the pace picked up as he thrust faster into her, the two of them wanting more pleasure and not wanting the feeling to stop. They didn't want it to end, but it all became too great and they had no choice to let go, cumming at the same time as Bella cried Jacob's name, her own name a whisper on his lips.

Panting heavily, Jacob pulled out of Bella and lied down next to her, the brunette instantly snuggling into his side. Holding her close, he kissed her forehead and whispered, "I love you."

"I love you, too," Bella replied, her eyes drooping shut until she felt into a sated sleep, a happy smile on her lips.
