. . . .

Hello, everyone! Since it is Halloween, I was watching a few of my favorite flicks and of course on the op of that list is "The Corpse Bride" from Tim Burton. A thought occurred to me and as a lot of my other fan fictions come about it was also a dream I had: What if somethings were changed, such as the characters involved? Let's give it a try! I present to you: The Mummy Groom! I do not own rights to the characters of "The Corpse Bride" nor Yu-Gi-Oh!

I hope you enjoy!

Summary: To save their family from the poorhouse, the head of the Gardner family has arranged for his daughter to marry the wealthy Kaiba's heir. Neither of the involved young adults wish for the union but what are they to do? Tea, distraught, decides to run away…but maybe that is the wrong choice of words. A mysterious man appears and offers a solution when an accident occurs.

The Mummy Groom

Forced Contract

"What do you mean she's been missing since yesterday?!" Yugi nearly shouted, his eyes never wavering from Seto's indifferent ones. "You're her groom, the man who is meant to be her husband, why aren't you out there looking for her?! Oh, I'm sorry, that's right, you have that shady Bakura guy out looking for her instead of yourself! I know you two have never gotten along but this is your future wife!"

Seto's eyes rolled. "Now I have to hear it from you too?" His quenched anger reared its head as Yugi made to continue and he couldn't care less of how venomous his voice sounded. Standing, he moved around his desk until they were inches apart. "You are just upset that your little friend is being put to use in the way society sees fit. Not everything is a fairy tale that ends with two people who are madly in love ride off into the sunset to live out their days in bliss. Grow. Up." A thought occurred to him that caused his lips to lift into a satisfied smirk. "This must be killing you, knowing that she will soon be by my side for the rest of our lives, and that your family wasn't good enough nor did you have the guts to propose to her yourself."

"Our relationship wasn't like that!" A hand raked through his already wild hair as he bit back retort and took a steadying breath. "It was never like that. We spent a lot of time together, yes, but no. There's someone else that I care for even more but that doesn't make Tea any less precious to me. I'm waiting for a few years but I do intend to request for Rebeca's hand once my family have become owners of the museum instead of sponsors."

"The Hawkins girl?" His eyebrow rose. "That's a surprise."

Yugi shrugged, pink dusting his cheeks, then shook his head and grew serious again. "Who even is this Bakura guy? Where did he come from and what does he have to do with any of this?"

"He happens to be her uncle, surprising enough that brown nosing man had a brother. Bakura has offered to search for her himself so as to reunite and establish some sort of mending bridge between them so that she would be accepting of him giving her away instead of her father." The surprise on Mutou's face caused Seto to pause, almost wishing he wasn't the one to share the news. "Didn't you hear that her father was pronounced dead last evening? His heart stopped beating."

Yugi's mind began to race. "Okay, tell me how yesterday went. Something isn't adding up."

. . . .

"Oh, darling, how I've missed you." The woman cooed as she wiped away Tea's tears. She whispered her name softly, gently collecting her in an embrace once more when her daughter began to openly sob. "There there, mother's here now, no need to cry so hard."

"I did not wish to upset her more," the pharaoh hung his head slightly as guilt filled him. "I never would have thought that calling for you would cause her such grief." Amethyst eyes widened suddenly when Tea removed herself from her mother's arms and tightly embraced the startled king. The warmth she radiated caused the dust in his bones to feel as though they were being baked but what startled him the most was how a feeling was beginning to grow within his hollow chest as his arms slowly rose to return her embrace. During the entire time he had been pharaoh none had dared to embrace him as she was. His eyes drifted closed as she adjusted her hold so that she could bury her face in his shoulder and relished in her whispered thanks.

The former Mrs Gardner smiled fondly at the scene before her, stifling a giggle as her daughter quickly released the Nameless Pharaoh and openly welcomed her into another hug. Her body had remained mostly intact surprisingly since her husband had taken the cheap route and opted for cremation. She was just thankful she wasn't a pile of ash! "Mighty one, I cannot express how thankful I am that you have reunited us. I haven't held her since the day I gave birth and gave her a name."

Tea nodded, casting him a tearful smile as she looked up at her mother. "You look exactly like your wedding portrait, mother."

"Come now, it's been several years since then." She playfully pinched Tea's cheek, earning a giggle. "I was never as beautiful as you are now, my baby. Now, tell me all that I have missed."

A scream pierced the air as the sky became dark, a large clawed hand appeared from a great hole that formed. The pharaoh stood as the hand turned in their direction. A disturbingly familiar voice was chanting lowly, barely above a whisper, but he caught a few words here and there. "How is it possible that he is…" The Nameless Pharaoh's eyes widened in alarm as the hand snatched up his bride from her mother's arms. "Tea!"

. . . .

Bakura cast a glance around him before closing the black book, a maniacal grin upon his face as he looked down upon her quivering form. His hand grabbed a fistful of her hair and raised her to her feet, earning a painful yelp. "Well, now, dear niece of mine, I had to go to great lengths to find you. Never would I have realized that you were in the underworld." His eyes raked across her being, noting the strange clothing she was in and slowly looked to the sarcophagus that was across the room. An almost terrifying sneer lifted his lips when he looked back to her. "Ah, such fond memories. I suppose you met his royal highness the Nameless Pharaoh."

Her eyes shot open at his words, shocked to find herself back in the museum, but they narrowed in anger when she spotted who had a firm grip on her. "Uncle Bakura, what are you doing here?"

He pretended as though she had stabbed him in the heart but the warning glint in his eyes caused her to flinch. "Dear niece, how wonderful it is to see you again." His grip tightened, forcing her up onto her tiptoes, and he took a sickeningly long inhale as his face came dangerously close enough that their cheeks nearly made contact. Tea's skin rose with goosebumps as he huskily commented of how she still smelled as sweet as her mother had. "Sorry to cut this reunion short, but we have somewhere to be." A cloth was shoved against her mouth and nose, causing her to shriek in surprise, but her eyes drifted closed as the chloroform entered her system. Bakura slung her over his shoulder and briskly left the museum behind. He would have to come back for the Book of the Dead later. Right now he had to get her changed and to the Kaiba estate before the ceremony started.

A group of maids were waiting by the door when he entered, uncaringly depositing the unconscious girl into their waiting hands, before he ensured his own appearance was presentable as he stepped up to the main parlor's entrance and cleared his throat. "Gentlemen," he bowed, lips lifting into a well rehearsed joyous smile as Seto approached. "I have returned with my niece. She is more than ecstatic to continue with the wedding, she is just getting changed as we speak."

"You found her?" Yugi's heart gave a lurch, moving to slip past the man, but was forced back when he remained in the threshold. "Move aside, I have to make sure she's alright."

"Don't worry yourselves any further," Bakura slung an arm over the young man's shoulders. His breath had hitched when his eyes first fell on Yugi, briefly panicked by the thought of who he might be, but confidently shoved the thought away when he noticed various differences. This youth was nothing more than a weakling with a crazy hairdo. "You shall see her soon enough as she's walking down the aisle."

Yugi was beginning to like this man less and less the longer they remained in the same room. All that Seto had told him had painted a picture that he didn't like and now that he had met the man in person. "Nonetheless, I want to see her."

All eyes turned to the other parlor entrance as it opened, revealing a dressed up Gozaburo Kaiba entered. "It's time."

. . . .

All fell back as the Nameless Pharaoh made his way through the palace, each trembling as he passed when they caught sight of his blazing eyes. A shadow had overcome his features the second he spotted that wretched hand coming from the sky and now that it had taken his bride he was all but certain who was responsible. His footsteps lead him to a part of the palace he had never visited when alive for it was reserved for only the dead. The mighty doors opened inward before his clenched fist could meet the stone and he was beckoned inside by a pair of voices. "Pardon my intrusion, mighty ones, I come in seek of your counsel."

The room before him was the most decorated he had ever seen. Large golden statues honoring the pair were next to the doors while miniature versions of them were depicted in paintings or carvings that covered the walls. In the center of the room sat two pedestals, each seating a different figure. Their bodies were mostly human but it was their heads that kept them separate. Anubis, the Egyptian God of Death, peered down at the pharaoh as he humbly bowed on one knee. "We already know of what has happened," he growled. "Someone has tampered with the balance between the mortal world and this one. I will not stand for it but even my own power is limited."

"Even if we were to combine our strength, our power would not remedy the situation at hand." Horus, the Egyptian God of the Light, answered the pharaoh's unvoiced question.

"Must I suffer another loss?" A clenched fist rose to rest against where his heart would have been if he were living. "Though I am not alive, it feels as though a dagger had pierced through my chest once more."

A growl filled the room as the doors burst open, his eyes widening as Tea's mother all but launched herself at the pair only to collide with an invisible shield of some sort. "You're supposed to be all powerful!" She screamed, collapsing as one of her legs gave out. The desperation in her voice caused Anubis to snarl when she attempted to move closer. "You save her from that monster right now or there will be hell to pay!"

"Wench!" Anubis barked, causing the room to quake slightly. "Remember who you are addressing!"

"Save my daughter from that cursed man then I may decide to be a bit nicer!"

The pharaoh cast a glance towards Horus, who had been watching the pair with interest, and their gazes met. "Now I see the resemblance. You might have your hands full with that one." He clapped his hands twice and commanded the two to silence. "Back to the matter at hand. Something must be done about that man before anything else. How to go about it though needs to be carefully considered." His hand extended towards the pharaoh. "I will not allow one of my children's heart to be broken a second time by this monster's hand."

. . . .

Something cold splashed across her being, causing Tea to gasp for breath as the fog finally lifted from her mind. Multiple hands were scrubbing her body in places that made her face darken in embarrassment, there was another splash of water, and then she was being lifted out fo the tub. Within second she had been dried and redressed in a dress she had never seen before and couldn't help but cringe at how itchy the lace was. What was happening?

One of the maids placed her before a door and she stiffened as Bakura appeared on her left, grasping her arm tightly. "Smile, dear, your wedding is starting." He cast a glance backward when he heard the sound of a scuffle, his smirk making an appearance for a split second as he spotted the Mutou boy attempting to force his way towards them. Pale purple eyes widened when they spotted the smirk and though Yugi tried with all his might he couldn't get Tea's attention to shift towards him. What he didn't know was that the veil that had been draped over her was laced with chloroform, causing her mind to become muddled once more. Bakura refocused on the aisle that stretched before them, keeping his grip light but firm as they began walking.

They came to a stop at the altar where the priest and Seto were waiting. "Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to celebrate the union of these two individuals."

. . . .

"This will not be a permanent fix, only temporary." Horus reminded as the pharaoh rose to his feet. Anubis and her mother were too busy arguing to notice that they had moved from their original places nor did they notice that an item had been passed between them. "Once she says your name aloud, you will both be forced back across the plains to this place. It will give us sometime of what to do after." The Nameless Pharaoh bowed his head as the item in his hands activated with a wave of Horus's hand, his consciousness rising to the ceiling in a column of white.

. . . .

Yugi's head fell backward as a light exploded from the pendant around his neck, eyes rolling into the back of his skull as another consciousness touched his own. It was unthreatening and felt oddly familiar, as though he was looking into a mirror as it slowly took over his being. Taken over was too cruel, melding of senses was more of what happened when their eyes refocused. Pardon the intrusion but I have to save her, a deep voice said within the confines of his mind. "That makes two of us." They broke the hold that the servants had on their persons and began taking steps down the aisle as the priest faltered when he noticed their presence.

The priest's glasses fell to the tip of his nose as the young Mutou's face warped into another's, fear entering his weathered and wrinkled eyes. "State your business, this is a holy ceremony that you are interrupting."

They completely ignored him, their attention fixated on the dumbfounded Bakura as he hastily pulled the bride to the side. "You have no claim to the Gardner name, release your hold on Tea at once!"

A soft whisper tickled her ear as a familiar voice pierced the fog. It was if a golden light was beckoning her to follow it through the strange thick clouds surrounding her. Her breath hitched as a hand gently clasped her own and looked to her right, seeing a reflection of herself smile warmly as their clasped hands rose. I'll leave the rest to you now. I wish you luck… She embraced Tea as her glossy eyes growing clear and the one calling her name appeared through the clouds of fog. Something was off though. Yugi was walking towards her but the presence that surrounded him was different. Call to him…answer him…your heart does not lie…his true name is upon your finger… She wrenched herself free from Bakura's grasp, earning a snarl, and reached out to him as he came closer. There, within the infinity loop on her finger was a word that filled her being with light as her lips formed his name. "Atem!"

"No!" Bakura all but screamed as she disappeared in a flash of light. How could his plan have gone so far south?! His wrath whispered in his ear like a devil's tongue as Yugi fell to the floor unconscious when the light had disappeared. A new idea came to him and his lips lifted into an almost sinister smile as he grabbed the unconscious boy, fleeing the room before anyone had a chance to regain their sight.

See you next time!
