. . . .
Hello, everyone! Since it is Halloween, I was watching a few of my favorite flicks and of course on the op of that list is "The Corpse Bride" from Tim Burton. A thought occurred to me and as a lot of my other fan fictions come about it was also a dream I had: What if somethings were changed, such as the characters involved? Let's give it a try! I present to you: The Mummy Groom! I do not own rights to the characters of "The Corpse Bride" nor Yu-Gi-Oh!
I hope you enjoy!
Summary: To save their family from the poorhouse, the head of the Gardner family has arranged for his daughter to marry the wealthy Kaiba's heir. Neither of the involved young adults wish for the union but what are they to do? Tea, distraught, decides to run away…but maybe that is the wrong choice of words. A mysterious man appears and offers a solution when an accident occurs.
The Mummy Groom
Mercury
He honestly couldn't care less of where the light had come from, chalking it up to an electrical surge or something like that, but what concerned him now was the strangeness of how Mutou had been acting. The boy's voice was light in pitch and was much shorter than himself. However, in that moment, he had appeared to have grown taller and voice became deep baritone. Seto Kaiba's fingers laced as he took his seat in his office. He was not one to believe in superstitions or magic, both proven to be utter nonsense in his experience, but there had been no reports of an electrical malfunction nor was there any sign of the boy. No one had seen him since the interrupted wedding but the same could be said for his bride. Perhaps they had eloped? He shook his head. No, something much worse was happening. His head rose as a knock came. "Enter."
Seto all but jumped to his feet as a young woman quickly entered, her blue eyes brimming with tears as he quickly crossed the office with large strides. "Seto, he's here! I know he is!" Her hands were shaking as she clung to him desperately.
"Kisara, please try to calm down." He gathered her in his arms as he attempted to soothe her with soft whispers. "It's too dangerous for you to be here."
"I heard about the wedding so I came as quickly as I could."
His heart clenched painfully at the slight bitterness in her otherwise sweet voice. Neither of them expected for the spark to develop between them when their path had cross during one of his many business trips, they were such polar opposites, but they quickly found their hearts yearning for the other beyond containment. They had agreed to keep their relationship private so as not to draw unwanted attention. The Kaiba name had a reputation to uphold and with his father currently the head it was obvious that he would not meet his approval simply based upon her lack of status. Beautiful though she may be it meant nothing in the eyes of his tyrant father. One of his hands gently brushed her striking silver hair to the side so that he could better see her face. "I could never love another as I love you, Kisara, never forget that."
She nodded, resting her cheek against his palm as her eyes closed briefly before they grew serious. "I know he's here, that man. I came because a shadow looms over this town and I feared that he was after you."
"You've never once told me his name, so how am I supposed to know who you are referring to?" He pulled away so that his hands rested upon her shoulders and he could now clearly see her face. "Tell me his name."
. . . .
Horus glared at his counterpart as they watched the pair. "I believe you are losing your touch. Those two have been reborn as well." Anubis, who had been griping the stone of the reflecting pool, unleashed a feral growl and a pillar crumbled to dust as his clawed hand impacted with it. "So many souls have been reborn, do you not understand the severity of what could possibly happen?"
Devlin hesitantly approached the ancient gods. "Not to make things worse, but no one has seen the pharaoh."
"No doubt he is privately speaking to his bride," Horus's eyes focused on a part of the wall. They had relocated the reflecting pool so as to give the pair a moment to themselves and he could already feel the pharaoh's grieving heart. "Let them be for now. Their remaining time is short." His attention refocused on the water's surface as an idea came to him.
. . . .
Kisara's eyes suddenly rolled, filling him with alarm as her body grew stiff. She had a few of these episodes when they had their rare moments alone but this one felt more ominous as a strange halo appeared behind her that stretched from one shoulder to the other with the arch above her head. "The man known as Bakura is the one you seek," a reverberating voice threatened to cause the windows to shatter. "He has walked the earth for longer than any mortal should. He is also the man who killed the Nameless Pharaoh's bride during the ancient days of old. Seto, you were charged with ensuring her safety to and from the palace but you had been so infatuated with your own secret love that you had knowledge that the man was responsible for the death of your king."
"What nonsense are you spewing?" His hands attempted to reach for her as she stepped away and felt a burning sensation grow behind his eyes as one of her hands made contact with his chest. Images flashed before his eyes faster than he could comprehend but there was no mistaking what he saw; a crown upon one who looked like Mutou sitting upon a throne, a girl with a striking resemblance to the Gardner he was supposed to have married dancing before the pharaoh, a vision of himself standing guard outside the throne chamber as the two conversed in secret. His breath caught as what he assumed was himself leave his post as his name was called and spotted him embrace none other than Kisara. "Am I supposed to believe this?!"
A bolt of lightning leapt from her fingertip, causing his heart to momentarily stall before it sped off like a racehorse, and her expression became one of anger. "You will right what you have done wrong, mortal. I, Horus, demand it so. Now go and hunt down the man known as Bakura and see to it that he meets his end. If that is not enough to stir your being then fear for this woman's life." Her eyes narrowed. "Her line has been gifted as an oracle, whose lives were short, but with the change of times their power has waned greatly. Do not make me resort to reopening the ancient sleeping bloodline."
It felt as though a blade had been shoved between Seto's ribs as the ominous presence faded yet Kisara remained at a distance with eyes still rolled. She softly called his name, surprising him that there was no fear within her voice, and a single tear slipped down her cheek. "What if it's true, that it was my fault that the great Nameless Pharaoh lost the person who meant most to him?"
"That happened several centuries ago, you can't possibly believe that you were responsible."
A rare expression of determination crossed her features. "I'm not going to pass up the opportunity to make things right. I'm going."
. . . .
"That was an interesting move," Anubis growled, crossing his arms. "How do you know if he will believe your words?"
Horus shook his head. "I do not, when it comes to the young man, but the woman's ancestors were oracles that were able to see visions of past and present events. I have been visiting her in dreams to warn her of what was occurring but the bloodline's power has grown so weak that she never remembered them. Now that I have temporarily occupied her body, those powers will momentarily be in effect. He will have no choice but to follow her as she sets off to accomplish what I have given her."
. . . .
Kisara had sprinted away from the office, leaving Seto little choice but to follow, and kept close to her side as she navigated through the streets despite the glowingly late hour. His anger at the so called Horus, Egyptian God of Light, was slowly morphing into fear when he spotted symbols beginning to appear across her skin. He decided that for her and her alone he would see this strange occurrence through. They came to a stop before the familiar church, her head tilting every which way as if she was gauging what was inside. "There's a spell in effect." Her being stiffened as a figure darted past. "Young man, that spell will not work within the barrier that has been cast."
They froze and turned around to face them, causing Seto's jaw to clench when Yugi's lilac hued eyes met his own. "Oh, great, you again."
"You will need a different spell," she approached with open hands asking for the book he attempted to conceal but he took several steps backward. "Do not fear, I want to help. That monster has done enough damage, wouldn't you agree? Let me show you the spell you will need to cast and then you can continue on your way."
Mutou glanced between the two, his figure emitting waves of anxiety, then finally handed her the book. It took her a mere moment to locate the spell, making sure that he knew the correct pronunciation, and made to enter the church when he ran into the barrier she had been suspicious of. "I have to get back inside before its too late!" As if responding to his desperate plea, a hole opened large enough for him to step through and he disappeared from sight.
Seto's hands quickly caught Kisara as she swayed, the markings disappearing as her eyes slid closed. He was about to collect her in his arms to carry back to the mansion but she shook her head. "You have to stay," she whispered. "You have to make sure he doesn't escape." A heavy sigh slipped from between his lips as she lost consciousness.
The things he had witnessed, not to mention the oddly precise coincidences, had made his inner voice of doubt grow quiet. The expression he had been wearing up until now became one of acceptance when he felt that ancient presence begin to grow from behind the barrier he still couldn't see. "Fine." He leaned against the wall, aka ping care to protect her figure from the coming cold by dropping is jacket around her. Unbeknownst to him, Kisara's seemingly random wanderings had been tracing the pathway for a new barrier around the outside of the one Bakura had conjured. His had been made with shadows while hers had been made of the silver strands of her hair. Thanks to the power Horus had left behind, her hair had created a large circle held together by a ring of mercury. It was long believed that mercury could contain some of the greatest evils the world had ever known and the new barrier proved the superstition as each shadow that attempted to bypass the ring disintegrated into smoke.
See you next time!
