When Lily awoke the next morning, it took her a minute to register where she was. Slowly, everything started coming back. The fight with Petunia, arriving at Potter Manor, the firewhiskey, and the hours of laughing and teasing. Lily wasn't sure when they fell asleep, but thinking back she remembered, with a flash of embarrassment, her head drooping sleepily onto James' shoulder.
Lily sat up, a giant blanket falling off her, and looked around the now sunlit drawing room of Potter Manor. The fire had gone out and the table lay littered with cups, the now cold tea, and the two empty bottles of firewhiskey. She lifted her gaze from the table to the sofa across from her own. It took all of the redhead's control to stifle her laughter. There, on the too small sofa, lay Sirius and James, lying side by side, their heads at opposite ends, and a tiny blanket shared between them. It took all of Lily's self control not to burst out laughing. It was at that very moment that Sirius kicked in his sleep, hitting James in the stomach, and knocking them both to the ground. It was too much and Lily could no longer contain herself; she burst out laughing. From the heap of limbs on the floor came two very loud groans.
"OOOWWWW! Bloody hell Prongs! What'd you do that for?" Sirius whined as he attempted to untangle himself from the blanket.
"ME? You're the one who kicked me! One of these days I'm taking you to the pound!" James retorted as Sirius still struggled to get to his feet. A few ows and several tries later they succeeded. James still had the under layers of his quidditch robes on, but Sirius was in nothing more than his boxers; his pygmy puff covered boxers.
Lily's laughter had now turned into very loud snorts and unable to maintain her balance, she fell back onto the couch. Startled, both boys jumped and turned to her, having completely forgotten they were not alone.
"Enjoying the view Evans?" Sirius questioned, striking a superman pose.
"Sure am!' responded lily through her giggling 'Especially the falling off the couch bit, very smooth."
"I HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THAT," yelled Sirius folding his arms across his chest. James just rolled his eyes and began picking up the blanket and pillows from the floor.
"So it isn't you who kicks like a dog in their sleep, and literally kicked his way off the couch?" said Lily smugly.
"Ah HA!" Yelled James. "See! I told you it was your fault. This happens every time!"
"How often do you two sleep together?" questioned Lily, eyebrows raised.
"All the time' responded Sirius cheekily, "he just can't get enough of this sweet sweet bod-" WAAAM! A pillow wielded by one James Potter whacked him in the face. "Hey,' whined Sirius raising his hand to his cheek, 'you know it's true!"
"True or not, that's what you get for KICKING me!" said James with a grin growing on his face. Before Sirius had a chance to arm himself, he was hit with another pillow.
"What was that for?" whined a pouting Sirius. "Lily, don't just sit there, do something!"
"Oh my bad," Lily said before throwing her pillow at him. Unfortunately, this one he caught. A split second before it hit her head, lily managed to yell "Protago!" and the pillow fell to her feet.
"Damn Evans,' admire James, 'Who knew you could do wandless magic?"
Lily blushed a bit and shrugged. "It's not so hard when my wand is still in contact with me" she said pointing to her hair. Lily often used her wand to hold her hair in a bun in the absence of a scrunchie. She only did it when she was alone or at home, as the pureblood witches often gave her judgemental looks. However, she must have put it up sometime last night.
Sirius rushed over to examine her hair. "You have to teach me how to do that. My luscious locks would look phenomenal like that!" Sirius gushed plopping down on her left.
"Later." Lily promised as James joined them on the couch. The three of them sat there for a moment before she spoke again. "Anyone else feeling pretty crappy this morning?"
"Yeeeessss! Too much firewhiskey and too much kicking" groaned James shooting his best mate a glare before throwing his arm across his eyes.
"Agreed." said Lily, closing her eyes and leaning her head against James' shoulder. "Accept for the kicking" she said with a giggle.
"I'm more than happy to even that out for you" replied a too chipper Sirius as he flopped down across their laps. Lily and James both groaned.
"Aren't you even a little bit hung over?" Lily questioned bitterly.
"Please. I'm a Black. I've been training for this since I was 12." Sirius said with a chuckle before going quiet. Lily realized that there was a lot she didn't know about Sirius' childhood, but she could imagine that it wasn't much fun growing up with a blood purity obsessed family like the Blacks.
"Well, you'll just have to teach me" Lily responded, booping him on the nose. Sirius grinned, but remained quiet. The three teens laid in their heap for a few minutes before James spoke up again.
"Anyone hungry?" he questioned. He was met with a "god yes!" from Lily and muffled "Merlin I'm STARVING" from Sirius, whose face was now pressed into the couch. "Then GET YOUR FAT ARSE UP!" James screamed in his best mate's year.
"JAMES POTTER," scolded Sirius, "Lily's arse is just fine the way it is not at all fat!" James shoved a now laughing Sirius off the couch before turning to offer a grinning Lily a hand.
James made sure to step on Sirius as he led Lily to the door. They made there way down the hallway, past the front door, up four flights of stairs, and down another hallway before arriving in front of a door baring a messily written sign with the words "JAmeS's Rooom PaSswOrb ReqUiREd!" Grinning, Lily raised an eyebrow at James who replied defensively "I was eight!" He opened the door a crack, turned the light on and stuck his head inside. After realizing it was clean, he opened it all the way, leading Lily inside.
The room was at least more than twice the size of her own with a tall slanting ceiling. Lily had almost expected to see pictures of nacked witches covering his walls, but instead the giffendoor maroon wallpaper was decorated with quitchich posters and pictures of his family and friends; Lily could help but smile. There were three large windows at the opposite end of the room with a couch spanning its length in front. In the middle of the wall to her left, was a large four poster bed with a bench at the foot. Seeing her looking at it, "Yes, it is just like the Hogwarts ones, I find it comforting" he said with a shrug. He headed for the dresser located in the corner next to the door, and began rummaging around. Lily continued looking around his room. His broomstick was on a stand near the window and the desk near his bed lay littered with letters and unfinished homework.
James, having found the shirt he was looking for, pulled off the one he was wearing, dropping it to the floor. Lily stared for a moment at his muscular back before realizing what she was doing and averting her gaze. She instead focused her attention on the pictures on the wall. One in particular caught her eye. It was a picture of James as a baby, playing with a miniature quaffle while in his mother's arms.
"I really was cute wasn't I?" James said in her ear. At the sound of his voice, Lily jumped. She turned around and jokingly hit his arm, "don't do that." James just grinned at her.
"Nice shirt,' Lily said in regards to his Star Wars T-shirt, 'I didn't know you were a chewbacca fan."
"YOU KNOW WHO CHEWY IS?" James yelled. By the excitement in his voice you would have thought someone told him he had won the lottery.
"Too loud James! My head has still not recovered from last night." Lily groaned and raised her hand to her head.
"Sorry,' he whispered "Do you know who he is though?"
"Yes James, I know who chewbacca is."
"Could you be anymore perfect?" James exclaimed, eyes still wide. Lily laughed feeling slightly awkward. "My dad is really into them," she explained, "We used to watch the movies together on our tv."
"That's one of those muggle moving photo boxes right?" James asked. "Yeah!" Lily responded, "have you seen one?"
"Once!" he answered, the excitement and wonder still evident on his face and in his voice. He stepped towards his bed and flopped down on his back. "It was sooooo cool!"
"Well you will have to come over some time and watch mine" Lily said as she wandered across his room to look out the windows at the view of the lawn and extravagant garden.
James rolled onto his stomach so he could look up and see her. "YOU HAVE A VT?"
"A TV - a Television, and yes" Lily responded.
"Woah" James sighed, flopping back down.
"Can I ask you a question?" Lily asked, turning to face James.
"Sure! Even though that was one so this will technically be your second" he said as he got up to join her at the window. Lily rolled her eyes, but continued with her question.
"Be honest, how many times have you flown in and out of your windows on your broom?"
"Why do you think it's here?" he said with a grin. "Come on, let's get something to eat."
