McPhearson was the first one to get it.
Mike watched Maria Gonzales bridge the short distance between them and the mats in two leaps, the whites in her eyes showing while yelling something in Spanish he couldn't understand, but had a pretty good idea of the meaning thereof. Once the burly lady got close enough, she threw such a punch at the startled Martial Art's Instructor's face that the Lieutenant swore he heard his teeth shatter.
They were next, being the obvious barrier between the angry lady and the exit of the dojo.
As such, she charged at Mike faster than he could even budge, grabbing him by the lapel of his black overcoat, before throwing him onto the mats, where he rolled several times before coming to rest against the concrete wall on the opposite side.
Ignoring the stabbing pain from his ribs where they were met by his elbow during the violent summersault, he tried to get back on his hands and knees, just to watch Kammers receiving the same treatment.
As the Staff Sergeant was tossed the opposite way, rolling across the mats and hitting her head hard on the wooden bench, a communal gasp went through the remaining students, although none of them stepped forward to interfere.
The last one standing, Steve was holding his arms out, as if to keep the lady at bay, and positioned himself by the doorframe, trying to block the exit. Mike knew the young inspector might as well be trying to stop an angry bull by waving a white flag.
As expected, Gonzales tried to brush past him and head for the stairwell.
When Steve shifted over in an effort to hold her back, she let out another angry grunt, before ramming her open palm into the center of his chest, causing the young Inspector to drop to his knees instantly.
Stifling an angry outburst, Mike carefully got back on his legs to rush over and check on his colleagues.
Simone was sitting against the wall by the time he got to her, rubbing a painful spot on the back of her head where she'd collided with the bench.
Upon noticing the Lieutenant approach, she quickly waved him off.
"I am fine. Check on Steve and McPhearson.", she urged and accepted a hand from one of the ladies to slowly get back to her feet.
Turning around on his heels, Mike let his eyes drift over to the ailing martial arts instructor who was kneeling on the floor, watching the blood from his split lip slowly drip onto the concrete, and using his free hand to dig out his teeth from the crimson puddle.
Deciding to leave the man be for now, he headed over to Steve, who was slowly getting back on his feet, one hand pressed against his chest as he tried to catch his breath.
"She hurt anything?", Mike asked urgently as he joined his partner by the door, covering his shaking hand with his own as if it would help detect any broken ribs.
"Just my ego.", Steve returned with a slight wheeze, then shook his head, "Never seen anyone this strong. She's scary."
"Well, she just got a lot scarier being out there wreaking havoc."
Letting go of his partner, Mike spun around, then pointing his finger back at Kammers.
"Staff Sergeant, you stay here. Call for backup, get a couple ambulances down here and put out an APB on Miss Gonzales. We're going to canvass the neighborhood, see if we can find her."
Nodding obediently, Simone looked at both detectives for a brief moment, her blue eyes clouding over with worry.
"You guys be careful out there. There's nothing worse than a woman's scorn."
