Where We Left Of...

(The story picks up right where the drama left of with Seol being called out to eat and the notifications on Seol's email changing from "unread" to "read")

Seol gave a small smile as she sat down at the table after helping her mother set it up. It was like many of the smiles she had begun using since Yoo Jung Sunbae left, a smile to prevent her parents from asking too many questions, a smile that can mask the pain that follows after thinking of Sunbae. Today was one of those days where everything seemed to remind her of him, someone's vague figure as she crossed the street, Baek In Ho's hand, Baek In Ha's appearance and blind dates.

She sent her first letter after semester break had ended and the next semester well on its way. It took that long to find the courage and words. It was difficult then to find anything to care about, but school, work and her friends kept her busy, too busy to think or cry. Walking to class, sitting in the cafeteria, the lake, a triangle kimbap, a vending machine coffee, all brought memories that were hard to face without him. Once it was weird to even stand next to him, now it is hard to stand without him.

She had applied to Taerang before graduation and was rejected after the first round but it was only the vague and distant hope of seeing him again that had made her apply. It had been a year already, how much longer could he need to come back?

Now it's been three years, three years of no news about Sunbae. The emails that she sends to him are not as frequent as before either. Hope of his return diminishes each day, but also it doesn't die. Sometimes even she wonders why she still waits for him when she hasn't heard from him once in all this time. But though she denies it when Bo Ra asks her, she knows that she will never find another person that could compare to what she had felt with Sunbae. There was only ever one choice then and now.

That night she lay in her bed, twisting the couple ring around her finger...

"When will he be ready? When will he know?"

(She sleeps that night not checking her email again.)

Hope you like it, it feels wordy and over done in my head but it feels like this is how Seol would have behaved after Jung leaves. I wanted to cover three years quickly so we could move onto the actual plot with the next chapter.)
