A note, which may be of use to understanding the story.

This story takes place in the same universe as my story One Man an Island, which is to say the fictional region of Vestige, a new uninhabited region that is suspiciously empty of new pokemon and has absolutely no indigenous humans at all. Also, this story was written before Galar was a thing.

Vestige has since been colonized by enterprising people seeking adventure, or those on the lam. It's kind of like poke-Australia, when you think about it. Up in the extreme north there is a tall mountain that home-sick settlers have deemed Mt. Silver, in memory of the one in Kanto. It is not the same mountain.

Currently, Vestige is fractured into several antagonistic baronies that fight with each other. Blue Territory, which houses the city of Blueport, is the largest and most prosperous in the region. They have an extensive shipping facility, and also control most all trade that goes in or out of Vestige. They are headed by John Blue.
Red Territory is the mid-west of Vestige, mostly rural and full of farmers. They also have an extensive paved road system and a trucking fleet; however, they are currently struggling with Blueport, because he has high tariffs on machine parts coming into Vestige, which makes their life difficult. They are headed by William Scarley and his wife, Goodra.
Black Factory is a world of factories and power. It is headed by Trixie Black, and she makes the power that keeps Blueport lit. She has worked with John Blue a long time and uses his dependency on her to force the machine parts tax, and to prevent Blue from getting the things he needs to build his own power plant. She also fights with Red Territory for resources. Everybody hates her, but no one can do anything about her.
There is also a Gold Territory, with a port in Gold City, however, that was a recent addition when the local evil team, Team Green, blew a hole in the rocky barrier that surrounded it. It is headed up by Richard Aulpes.
Lastly, a woman named Silver has recently returned to quell Team Green's ambitions. She had tried to previously unite the fractured territories and failed. She's trying again, with mixed results. Sometimes, matters have to be taken into your own hands, as is the case here.

This is the story of John Blue and a man named Maxwell Matsuba, how things aren't always what they seem, and how fate is an interesting taskmaster.

The events of Ruby and Sapphire happened about 40 years ago. This is important.

Enjoy.
