14. People that Love You
Seol fell back on her bed with a satisfied sigh, her arms spread out, a satisfied smile on her face and eyes closed. She giggled again thinking about Sunbae's text. She jumped around with glee when she first saw the text but decided to take a bath before she sent a potentially embarrassing reply. Now the glee had mellowed to giddiness. She rolled around on bed, grabbed a pillow and let out a squeal into it. Seol jerked up and grabbed her phone, intending to send a reply to Jung. She re-wrote them several different times before she was satisfied.
"Yes."
Seol considered the message again, it was precise and to the point exactly the kind of response Sunbae would want. Seol jerked back to lay on the bed again, this time with a sudden onset of bashfulness, but this time her head banged on the head board. As she withered around on the bed in pain the phone started to ring. Seol grabbed the phone she had thrown aside thinking it was Sunbae when she noticed the caller ID.
"Oh, hi Bora! What is it?" Seol was a little out of breath but even through the phone Bora could hear her smile. Which made it the more difficult for her to do what she was about to do next.
"No, it's nothing. I was just wondering where you were."
"I am at home. You?"
"Me? I am at the shop still. Eun Teak is with me. Seol-ah. I am going to tell you something, okay? I want you to first know that Eun Teak is on the phone with some people he knows to find out and confirm what's going on but... but I need you to be strong now and not to get too shocked okay?"
"ohhh. You have big news, is it? I bet I have bigger news, but since you called first I'll let you share yours first." Seol was excited, anticipating Bora and Eun Teak's surprise on Sunbae's return.
"Seol we heard that Jung Sunbae might have been in a plane crash-"
"Bora! It's okay! It's okay! Sunbae wasn't on that plane. I just saw him. Really!"
"What! Ya! Do you know how worried we were when we saw the news? Eun Teak! Jung Sunbae is apparently fine! He already met with Seol!" Seol could hear Eun Teak's voice in the background responding but she couldn't make out the words.
"Hong Seol! How could you not tell me until know that Sunbae was back?" And this question was followed with the whole story about what happened that night, Seol and Bora talked for the next several hours with Eun Teak joining in half way through after talking to some of his air lines friends and manager.
"So, you and Sunbae are really official? You are going to date?"
"Yup! I have it in writing."
"Slow down Hong, he just came back. You aren't even mad at him?"
"I am not going to wast my time on that Bora. I... I already know how much I like him and how much he likes me. I don't want to waste any more time then we already have apart."
"You sound like you are going to get married soon Hong. Be careful."
"Hey! Don't get ahead of yourself, we just got back together. I am just really happy right now."
"I know. I know how much you missed him, I know how long you waited for him to come back. I just want you to be happy Hong."
"It's true Noona. Bora noona was always worried about how you hadn't gotten over Sunbae after all this time, me too to be honest."
"I'm sorry, for making you worry. Trust me! I am really happy right now."
"Arasso! I'll wait for the both of you to catch up and have some alone time. But make sure to plan to meet up really soon okay? We both want to see Sunbae too."
"Thank you Bora, Eun Teak. I promise we'll meet up soon. Let me just talk to Sunbae and see if her has any plans." They ended the conversation soon after, late at night.
Seol laid down on bed with a smile on her face, it had been a long day, yet it was one she didn't want to end. She tucked herself in thinking about Sunbae when a new text came through. It was Sunbae.
"Asleep?" Seol's smile got bigger reading that single word. Still laying down she sent a reply back.
"No, are you still awake?" within seconds after sending the text Sunbae's name popped up on the screen.
"Sunbae, you must be really tired with the time difference, why are still awake?"
"Don't worry, I am fine. How could I go to sleep without talking to my girlfriend?" Seol giggled at his words. She was 26 years old this year but was behaving like a teenager.
"Sunbae, what are you going to do tomorrow?"
"Nothing. I am just going to spend time with my girlfriend. Why?" Seol covered her face at his playful and cheesy words.
"So we can meet up tomorrow? When?"
"We can meet up whenever you are free. Should I come to pick you up tomorrow?"
"No, if my parents see you, I don't know how they will react. They are already a little angry." Seol said those words quietly, worried about hurting Sunbae's feelings.
"I deserve it Seol and since I plan to be with you a long time, I want to meet them as soon as possible to make things clear."
"Sunbe, you were always very clear, that's why they are so angry you know." Sunbae didn't respond for a while, just when Seol was going to check if the call droped he responded.
"I am really sorry Seol for hurting you. I was just so scared, that I... that I could cause you harm." Now it was Seol's turn to become quiet. Tears filled her eyes. It would have been almost impossible to hear such words from Sunbae in the past.
"No, I am sorry Sunbae, for sounding so accusing. But to be honest, it makes me so happy to hear you share your feelings with me. Sunbae, let's share everything with each other, without worrying about how the other will react. Let's share so that the burden we feel will be lessened. Okay?"
"Okay, from today onward, I'll depend on you." Jung smiled as he said this, it took so little and gave so much to him to be able to do this.
"When will you be free tomorrow then? Lunch? Should I come to pick you up then?"
"No, lunch isn't very comfortable at my office, how about we meet after work? That way we will have more time to be together?"
"Really? I really want to eat with you though."
"We can eat dinner together Sunbae, and go on a date too. Okay?"
"Alright, but what time do you take your lunch break anyway?"
"Around 12:00. Don't worry I'll text you all day tomorrow whenever I have time. You wont be able to stop me." Jung chuckled at her words.
"Since we won't meet till the evening, what are your plans for the rest of the day?"
"We decided that I would start working at the company soon. I asked my dad to hand over the Rally merger to me, but I am still new to the company and he doesn't know how the board will react to that. He doesn't want to show any cheabol nepotism in front of them. But I think he just doesn't believe I can do it."
" Your father is just being cautious I bet he knows you better then I do. That means he knows that you are more then capable of handling the work. But will you have any time to see me, if you are so busy?"
"Don't worry, it will take a few days before my dad tells me the boards decision. We can hang out together until then. But you are also a corporate women, will you have time for me?" the teasing in his voice was evident.
"I am not the one that will be taking over a multi-million dollar merger, I am just a regular office worker Sunbae-nim. I have a lot more time then you will." Sunbae laughed, Seilo
"Do you think you can go on an over night trip with me. Let's go on the one we weren't able to last time." Seol sat up at this in shock.
"Really? Will it be okay? Will your father be okay with this?"
"Seol, I am almost thirty. I am pretty sure that my father is okay with not knowing where I will be every second of the day. Anyway I have to look for an apartment soon, close to work this time."
"Ohh, that's right you don't live at home usually. So are you at home now?"
"Yup, so what about the trip." Seol blushed for some reason, she fanned her face and tried to sound non challant as she replied.
"Of course I can. I have a lot of leaves, but I need to give 48 hour notice before hand. For how many days should we go?" this line of conversation continued for some time until Sunbae noticed the time and told her to sleep.
Seol and Jung slept that night with actual smiles on their faces.
