21. His Promise
Bora oohed and aahed, turning her hand this way and that to view the bracelet Sunbae had given her yesterday.
"Tell me exactly what happened yesterday! You were so vague in your text message."
"He took me on a private boat, apparently his family owns it. We spent all day on it, ate some good food and after dinner when we were drinking some champagne he took out the box."
"Wait a minute... Yoo Jung Sunbae owns a boat?" Seol hoped that Bors's slack jawed expression was not an indication of her reaction yesterday. Seol nodded.
"Mmm! I was so weirded out in the beginning. I had no idea how to feel about it. I always knew that Sunbae wasn't exactly in my league in university but he was never so...ostentatious about it. But it was a really good date, we got to spend a lot of time together just talking without worrying about the time or tomorrow. You would think after his plane crash scare we would spend more quality time together, but there never seemed to be any time."
"A private boat!?"
"Are you still stuck on that?" Seol fidgeted with her drink avoiding Bora's eyes. Though she was definitely more comfortable with Sunbae's wealth today then she was yesterday, it was still something she wasn't entirely comfortable talking about. Bora was silent for a few seconds, her eyes still opened wide.
"Do you have pictures?"
"Of the boat? No, but we took some of ourselves and the view."
"Show me!" Seol took out her phone and handed it to Bora, there were quite a few selfies of both of them together and a several that the staff took of them too. The night view of Seol from the Han river was also something that she couldn't pass up. Seol was never into social networking, the pictures just memories for her. Bora finally looked up from the phone.
"I did not expect this would be how chaebols did things. Sunbae has moves, Seol." Bora's teasing words were exactly what she needed to hear. The shock was expected but her friend would always be her friend.
"But are you okay? I know you and this is not something you would feel comfortable with."
Seol smiled. "When he gave me this bracelet yesterday, do you know what I thought? Does his think I am materialistic enough to want something like this? How can I ever give him something of equal value? But when he put it on and showed me our names he had inscribed inside, do you know what he said?"
Yesterday after dinner, while Seol and Jung stood on the deck appreciating the view and the last few hours before they had to go home.
Jung stood behind Seol with both his arms around her, when he finally decided it was time. He brought out the box from his pocket that he tucked away once they got on the boat that morning. He put the jewelry box that was too big for a ring in front of Seol. Seol looked down at Jung's hands, surprised. Jung without any words opened it, looking at it's contents along with Seol. He then unwrapped his arms from around her and stood next to her so he could look at her face.
"Last time when you got us the couple rings I can't tell you how happy I was that day. If I think about the past I feel like you were always the one doing the giving. These bracelets...these bracelets mean that I want to do the giving from now on. I want to mark that fact that I will now always be a part of your future. A promise that no matter, we will face all the difficulties ahead together. That nothing comes before your happiness, our happiness." Jung's voice and face held no hesitation just stone cold determination. His eyes never once leaving Seol's. Seol's eyes however blurred at Jung's words, his promise. She wasn't expecting anything like this, her heart not prepared for such a declaration. She just just held her hand out nodding her head in response and smiling in rivalry to the city lights surrounding them. After just put the bracelet on Seol's hand he held out his so she could place the other one on his wrist. But first he showed her their names that he had engraved on the inside and today's date. Holding onto Jung's wrist firmly Seol looked into his eyes, her's still wet. Jung realised quickly what Seol was up to and leaned down with a smile, wrapping his arms around her back has he met her lips in a kiss. Breaking apart a little while later Seol stayed in Jung's arms plastered to his front, her gaze never leaving his, her smile a seemingly permanent fixture.
"It's okay if he is rich and I am not, Bora. I know what's important in this relationship and it will never be money. I am just really happy right now." Bora's eyes had turned clouded at Seol's version of events of last night, Seol laughed at Bora's expression.
"Why are you crying?! Nothing sad happened."
"Seol-Ah, it was so hard for you I am just so happy that all these good things are happening to you. I can't think of anyone more deserving of happiness then you." Bora ended her speech with some bawling, prompting Seol to pull her close in a hug, patting her back.
"Araso. It's all okay now, don't cry anymore."
