Prologue

Sirius

Sirius would always remember the day he met him.
It was his first real day at Hogwarts. He was sitting by himself in Transfiguration classroom. He was drawing some random shapes all over his parchment paper. He was waiting for James, but James was as usually late.

He looked at his robes. They weren't silver and green, colors he thought he would wear here. They were gold and red. And he liked it. For him, it was some sort of sign that he is not like the rest of his family.

He was getting lost in his thoughts, until he heard a soft voice beside him.
"Hey, can I please sit next to you?" Sirius turned his head. He saw a skinny boy, a little bit tiny for their age. He had light brown hair and warm brown eyes. The boy also had scars across his face. Really thick, light pink scars. It made him stick out in the crowd. But this boy didn't want to stick out. You could see that all over his face.
"Yes, of course." He said and removed his bag from the chair next to him. He moved it to the chair of the desk beside him. "Excited for the first day?"
"I don't know." The boy said. "I am more nervous."
"Nervous about what?" Sirius asked.
"Again, I don't know. I just am." The boy answered.
"What is your name?" he asked.
"Remus." The boy answered. "Yours?"
"Sirius." He held out his hand. Remus accepted it. "Nice to meet you."
"Nice to meet you too." Remus said.
He saw James coming in to the classroom. He moved his bag from the chair. James sat down, messing his hair with his fingers even more.
"Sorry, woke up late." James said. "Who are you?" he asked, once he noticed Remus sitting beside Sirius.
"Oh, this is Remus!" he said. "He asked me if he can sit with me. This is James."
"Nice to meet you, mate." James said. Remus waved nervously.

Sirius didn't know how, but he knew that he and Remus will have something special.

Remus

Remus would always remember the day he met him.

It was his first day at Hogwarts. He didn't have any friends there. He didn't know where to sit. But he was drawn to a dark haired boy who was drawing all over his parchment paper. He picked up the courage and asked him if he can sit with him. The boy greeted him with smile and kindness. He wasn't used to kindness from anyone other than his father. But this boy accepted him with open arms. "It is because he doesn't know." He instantly thought. "If he ever knew, he wouldn't want me to be in same room with me, let alone sit with me."

He soon found out that his name is Sirius. And he soon met his friend, James. Their first class of the year started. As much as he was interested in what professor McGonagal was talking about, he liked that Sirius was making jokes for the most of the class. Remus rarely laughed. He probably laughed more in that one class than he did in his whole life before that. McGonagal had to warn them for talking. Sirius started writing notes in margins of his parchment. He was making little drawings as well. Remus appreciated hid creativity and his wish to make others laugh.

After classes were over he was going to the lake to study by himself. He heard someone running across the hallway.
"Remus! Remus, wait!" he heard. Sirius was running toward him, his hair and his robes going around him in the way that made him look like he was flying. "Want to grab something to eat with us?"
"But it's past lunch time. The great hall doesn't serve food now." He said, confused.
"Oh, James revealed me this awesome secret. Come!" Sirius said, clearly excited. He grabbed Remus's hand and led him. James was waiting for them in the small corridor.
"Finally! I am waiting here for ages!" James said. "Now, gentlemen, let me show you some magic."
"Everything here is magic, you moron." Sirius said. "That is like the whole point!"
"Stop being knit picky or you are not getting any food!" James told him back. They laughed it off. James went to a painting of fruit hanging on the wall and touched the pear on the painting and the door appeared.
"I hope my dad wasn't just messing with me." He heard James saying quietly. He turned the knob on the door and entered. They found themselves in a kitchen. A big, messy kitchen, filled with all of the best scents.
"This is Hogwarts kitchen!" Sirius exclaimed.
"Yes it is. My dad told me about this. He told to be nice to house elves and I would get food whenever I want." James explained. A tiny house elf dressed in a dirty robe went up to them.
"And what are you doing here?" the elf asked in a high pitched voice, but not high pitched enough to be annoying.
"Hey, mate. We were just hungry after classes and we wondered if you guys could please make us something." James said politely, talking like they are lifelong friends.
"Sure." The elf said. "The elves live to serve the students of Hogwarts!" Few moments later the elf was back with a plate of cupcakes. They were delicious. After they finished, James thanked the elves.
"What are you planning for the rest of the day, Remus?" Sirius asked.
"Oh, mostly study." He answered.
"Come on!" Sirius said. "It's the first day. Come with me and James. We will play games in the common room."

In that moment, Remus felt truly excepted. For at least a moment he didn't think about what would they think if they found out the truth about him.
Remus didn't know how, but he knew that he and Sirius will have something special.
