Chapter 6: Attack of the Headless Horseman

Outside the bar, a tombstone labeled "R.I.P. Stinky" opened up with Shaggy opening it before he, Scooby, Googie, Scrappy, Daphne, Vincent, Flim Flam, Crystal, Amber, the Hex Girls, Marcie, Moon, Dilla, Jay, Damien, Rowena, Willow, the Boo Brothers, and the Ghoul School kids getting out with Jack being the last one as he hopped out with a kooky laugh before jumping on top of a tombstone, which turned out to be the exit door.

"You'd better watch it. The last thing you want tonight are those good-for-nothing goblins comin' after ya.", Jack warned.

"Um..., thanks for the warning?", Googie responded in puzzlement as her wolf ears wiggled a bit.

"But I gotta give you props. The Goblin King's castle? What a riot! You guys are whack! I love it!", Jack laughed.

"So, does that mean you'll help us?", Daphne asked.

"Look, you guys crack me up, but I can't hang with you.", Jack responded.

"But why?", Willow asked.

"The sooner we get to the Goblin King's castle, the sooner we can warn him and stop Asmodeus and Revolta before midnight.", Vincent added.

"Wow! Asmodeus?! And Revolta, too?! That is bad. Look, I really want to help you guys. I do, but I got my own deadline tonight. See my candle?", Jack asked before he opened his mouth to show the candle in his mouth before lowering his mouth again.

"That's how long I got to get my Halloween on. Once it burns out, I'm burned out. You know what I'm sayin'?", Jack asked.

"Indeed. And I also know that you certainly don't want to keep working for him.", Vincent responded before the horse neighed.

"Speak of the Devil...", Thorn sighed before the Headless Horseman appeared with wicked laughter as he raised his sword and the horse neighed loudly with its two front hooves raised, frightening Scooby and Shaggy as well as Tanis and Willow as the former squeaked in fright.

"Like, who's the creep with the missing cranium?", Shaggy asked.

"That must be the headless horseman. A demonic spirit said to haunt Sleepy Hollow.", Marcie responded as the Headless Horseman laughed and rode forward toward the group.

"You weren't kiddin' about him, Vince. I'm so tired of workin' for this guy. Quick, you gotta help me.", Jack requested.

"Don't worry, Jack. We'll help you.", Flim Flam assured.

"And not a moment too soon.", Vincent added as the headless horseman laughed, getting closer to the group.

"You heard him, guys! Keep away!", Googie urged as she grabbed Jack before tossing him toward Shaggy, who ran with Scooby and Jay, who ran with them, into the pumpkin field with the headless horseman chasing after them.

"So, any ideas on how we can get Jack out of Sleepy Hollow, Daphne?", Damien asked.

"I might have a few ideas.", the witch grinned.

"As long as it gets us away from that creepy horseman.", Tanis responded.

Meanwhile, the horseman chased Shaggy, Jay, and Scooby through a pumpkin patch before he stopped as the horse scraped his hoof against the ground a carousel of times. Then, the horseman got off his horse and then started slicing and dicing every pumpkin he comes across with a sword and ax as Shaggy, Jay, Scooby, and Jack hiding among the other pumpkins. However, as Scooby and Shaggy looked up, Jack looked up, inadvertently blowing their cover as the light from his eyes gave away their position before the headless horseman laughed as he turned around to spot them, slicing a pumpkin with an evil laughter, making Jack exclaimed in fright before Scooby, Jay, and Shaggy covered his eyes and mouth, but to no avail as the horseman already spotted them before cutting another pumpkin near them.

"Zoinks!", Shaggy exclaimed before Jack hopped away with Jay, Scooby, and Shaggy running away after Jack.

Then, Jay picked Jack back up as he, Shaggy, and Scooby ran as fast as they could while the Headless Horseman's horse barely jumped over the log, grazing some of it off as it broke through the top of it, urging the trio to run with Jack in tow with the headless horseman gaining on them as the headless horseman laughed before Daphne and the Hex Girls arrived first as they flew with the former using her broomstick.

"Shaggy! Do you still have those spell cards?", Daphne asked.

"Like, oh, yeah.", Shaggy asked before he got out the spell cards from his pocket.

"Here. Hold onto this.", Shaggy spoke, handing one of the cards to Daphne.

"Shield of safety!", Shaggy spoke before Daphne realized where he was going with this.

"Wait. I think I get it now.", Daphne spoke before stopping and holding the card out as it created a holo projection of a loyal knight holding up his shield with a dragon on it.

However, the moment the Headless Horseman appeared, the knight only became frightened and ran off.

"Oh, jeepers.", Daphne sighed before flying away as fast as she can, but with the headless horseman gaining on the witch before he attacked with his sword only to miss as Daphne ducked underneath the sword just as Thorn, Dusk, and Luna flew up next to the horseman and tapped on his shoulder.

"Hey! Why don't you pick on someone your own size?", Thorn goaded.

Meanwhile, Googie, Moon, Scrappy, Vincent, Flim Flam, and Marcie caught up to Shaggy, Jack, and Jay.

"Googie! Like, boy are we glad to see you guys here!", Shaggy spoke.

"Me, too. But try another spell card, quick!", Googie urged as she ran on all fours.

"Like, got it! Wall of gnome!", Shaggy spoke before tossing the card aside as they ran before it poofed into three gnomes, who both smiled until they saw the Headless Horseman coming up ahead before 2 out of 3 gnomes started screaming at once while the third was a bit late on the uptake before the 3 gnomes were trounced by the Headless Horseman's horse, practically squishing them as the groaned with the headless horseman passing the gnomes.

"Well, that didn't work. Can you try anything else?", Scrappy asked.

"Force of flowers?", Shaggy asked before tossing the card aside behind him with the card then turning into a gale of flowers in front of the horseman.

"Not very effective, but it does make him a bit pretty. Anything else?", Marcie asked.

"Clown calamity!", Shaggy spoke before tossing aside the card, which poofed, causing the horseman and his horse to look a bit like clowns as the horse now had a funny hat and makeup along with shoes as the horseman now had a clown's uniform and the balloon in place of a sword.

"Okay. Not very helpful, but at least it's a little bit funny.", Flim Flam commented.

"Try something else!", Vincent urged.

"Baby on a frog?!", Shaggy spoke before tossing it away, turning the headless horseman into a headless baby with a rattle and the horse into a frog, both of which then reverted back to normal.

Then, Googie gasped as she saw the river up ahead.

"River!", Googie shouted before she screeched to a halt as Vincent and the others followed her lead and stopped while only Shaggy fell off and lost his grip on the cards.

"No, the magic cards!", Shaggy shouted before he was caught by Damien, who also caught the magic cards as Crystal, Amber, Rowena, Willow, Dilla, the Boo Brothers, and the Ghoul School kids caught up.

"Phew. That was close.", Damien sighed.

"You okay, Shaggy?", Crystal asked.

"Yeah. Or rather I will be when the horseman isn't chasing us!", Shaggy responded just as Jack looked back to see the horseman before screaming and then hopping away.

"The horseman's getting too close to Jack!", Rowena shouted.

"We've got to stop him somehow.", Moon spoke.

"Wait a second. Is there a spell card that can freeze someone in time?", Daphne asked.

"Oh. Actually, there is one.", Damien spoke, handing said card to Daphne.

"Thanks. Let's just hope this one works.", the witch spoke just before the horseman grabbed Jack by the stem on his head and put him on the collar of his shirt and then laughed as Jack's mouth spewed out flames.

"It's now or never, Daphne.", Vincent urged.

"Right! Confines of time!", Daphne spoke before tossing the card toward the horse, freezing it the instant the card hit it, and making the horseman trip out of the horse and onto the ground by the butt, just in time for the Hex Girls to toss Scooby toward the horseman, mostly to get Jack off him.

"Scooby-Dooby-Doo!", Scooby howled as he then managed to remove Jack from the horseman before landing right into the horseman's shirt, a bit dizzy, before he popped his head out from underneath the hole and shook it.

"You okay, Uncle Scoob?", Scrappy asked.

"Uh-Huh.", Scooby responded.

"Not a bad move, Mac. Personally, I would've walloped him.", Freako commented.

"Not me.", Meako added.

"Still, that's quite a riot, sticking yourself in that horseman's body, nyuck-nyuck-nyuck.", Shreako added just before the horseman recovered and stood up.

"Ruh-Roh.", Scooby spoke.

"'Ruh-Roh' is right. That horseman's about as mad as a galloping horse.", Freako concurred just before the horse got unfrozen, leaving it puzzled as its eyes were widened and it gave a puzzled snort.

"Oh, boy. Speak of the devil...", Freako sighed.

Then, Scooby got out of the horseman and ran as Googie and the others followed suit before the horseman got back on his horse, which neighed, and then chased after the entire group.

Then, Shaggy, Scooby, Googie, Scrappy, Crystal, Amber, Daphne, Vincent, Flim Flam, Marcie, Dilla, Jay, Damien, Rowena, Willow, the Boo Brothers, and the Ghoul School kids ran as fast as they could.

"So, what should we do now?", Winnie asked with a pant.

"Head for the covered bridge! It's our only chance!", Jack shouted before screaming.

"There's the bridge! Dead ahead!", Vincent urged before he, Flim Flam and the group ran across the covered bridge, eventually leaving only the Headless Horseman remaining in the other side before he suddenly stopped and yelled angrily as his horse stood on its hind legs again.

"Zoinks! Like, why did he stop?", Shaggy asked.

"Because, Shaggy, this is the horseman's one weakness. He is unable to cross covered bridges.", Vincent explained as the horse neighed.

"Well, it's true what they say. It's tough to get 'a-head' in this town.", Scrappy spoke before he and the rest of the group laughed.

"Oh, Scrappy.", Googie sighed with joy.

"So, where to next?", Flim Flam asked.

"That may actually be something we need to ask Jack. You can help us find the fastest route to the Goblin King's castle, can't you?", Vincent asked.

"Well, I'll try my best for you, Vince.", Jack grinned.
