Chapter 12: Ordeal of The Midnight Hour/A New Reason for Hope
Meanwhile, at the clock tower, the Goblin King arrived inside in a strike of lightning and a puff of smoke before it cleared as the Sierra eventually went out.
"Show yourself, wicked warlock!", the Goblin King demanded.
"Greetings, your majestic malignancy. Thank you for coming. I do so admire your punctuality.", Krudsky smirked before Asmodeus and Revolta caught up.
"Sorry we're late, your rottenness.", Revolta apologized with a smirk.
"We had a few loose ends that needed to be taken care of. I see you brought the Goblin scepter as promised. How kind of you.", Asmodeus added as he set the Chest of Demons
"Show me the princess...or be destroyed!", the Goblin King warned.
"Using your magic to do so at this point is not wise, especially not at the risk of harming your own daughter.", Asmodeus added as Krudsky presented Fairy Princess Willow from his hat.
"Why, here she is now, unharmed as promised.", Krudsky smirked.
"Daddy...", Fairy Princess Willow spoke sadly.
"Just hang in there. Daddy will get you out of there soon.", the Goblin King assured.
"He will? Are you sure?", Revolta smirked as she raised her eyebrow.
"Good question. We held up our end of the bargain, so it is only fair that you hold up yours.", Asmodeus added before the Goblin King landed on the ground.
"Beware, Asmodeus. You all know not the powers you are dealing with.", the Goblin King warned as Fred, Velma, Lena, and Ben looked on.
"I might have a good theory, actually.", Revolta smirked.
"Blabity, blah, blah, blah! Cough it up already!", Krudsky urged.
"And do so quickly. We don't have all night, you know.", Asmodeus added, baffling the Goblin King for a moment before he growled.
"So be it.", the Goblin King spoke as he moved the Goblin Scepter in front of him before he let go of said scepter, which started moving away from him as did the trapped Fairy Princess Willow from Krudsky, Asmodeus, and Revolta as the former of the three eagerly snickered, rubbing his hands against each other before both the scepter and the Fairy Princess eventually passed each other.
"Now, Lena!", Fred urged before Lena pulled the lever, causing the gears to turn faster before a series of ropes appeared near Krudsky, who ducked in reaction.
"How pitiful.", Asmodeus responded before he grabbed Revolta and flew up before the ropes could hit him, instead taking the Goblin King by surprise as they trapped him, worrying Fred.
"Sorry, your majesty! This was not part of the plan, just so you know!", Fred apologized.
"Willow! Are you all right?", Lena asked as she and Ben hurried over to her.
"No. None of us are safe now.", Willow responded.
"You fools! It is too late to stop our conquest, now!", Asmodeus spoke as he grabbed the scepter and then aimed it at the Chest of Demons before firing a magic blast at it, revealing a transparent lock and its chain wrapped around it before they broke apart, freeing the Chest of Demons.
"So, all I have to do is open that chest to unleash your 12 brethren, and then I could have the scepter, right?", Krudsky asked.
"Just make sure you do your part right and be quick about it.", Asmodeus responded.
"Patience, Asmodeus. Here they come.", Krudsky assured before he opened the Chest of Demons, unleashing the 12 ghosts screeching as they swirled around with the chest shaking, making their egress from the chest toward the ceiling of the clock tower, breaking through it before a bright blue beacon shot out with clouds forming around it while below, the Chest of Demons was now yet again empty.
"Yes. Yes! At last, my brethren are free!", Asmodeus shouted in triumph.
"Oh, how wonderfully evil!", Revolta added.
"I suppose I won't need this scepter anymore.", Asmodeus spoke before handing the scepter to Krudsky, who laughed as he grabbed it before he grew pointy ears, green skin, goblin wings, fangs, claws, and a tail.
"Ladies and gentlemen, the Amazing Krudsky Version 2.0!", Krudsky shouted as lightning struck outside the clock tower where the 12 freed ghosts were converging around it.
"Well, well, would you just look at the big bad Goblin King, now?", Revolta smirked.
"Release me at once!", the Goblin King demanded.
"You are in no position to give orders anymore.", Asmodeus retorted.
"In fact, we'll take over from here, Junior!", Krudsky added before firing the Goblin scepter at the Goblin King.
"NOOOOOOOO!", the Goblin King shouted as the blast hit him, turning him into a goose, although thankfully freeing him from the rope, before he honked three times.
"Now, who's next?", Krudsky asked with a chuckle as he, Asmodeus, and Revolta turned to Fred, Velma, Lena, and Ben.
"Uh-oh.", Velma spoke in worry.
"All in favor of an-scraying, say 'aye'!", Lena shouted.
"Aye!", Fred, Ben, and Velma shouted as they ran out with Lena before the clock's was suddenly blasted away with smoke clearing to show Asmodeus, Revolta, and Goblin Krudsky.
"With the 13 Ghosts at my side, chaos will reign! Be free, ghosts of the Chest of Demons! Together, we will rule the night and take your revenge on those who imprisoned you! Now, it's our turn to walk the streets while the Earth cowers in our presence! The sun will never rise again and it will be halloween night forever!", Krudsky shouted before he, Asmodeus, and Revolta laughed as lightning struck before Revolta and Asmodeus started singing as the former even began making a special cauldron with which to heighten the ghosts' ferocity and abilities while adding said ingredients as she sang before a green smoke emanated from it, causing the ghosts who smell it to have glowing green eyes for more effective magic before another set of ingredients was added, leading to the same result as before before the ghosts chanted in celebration while Weerd and Bogel watched from their own crystal Ball as guards of the dungeon back at Goblin Castle.

"Oh, man. It looks like so much fun.", Weerd grinned.
Inside the cell, Damien had thoughts.
"Well, that didn't go the way we thought it would.", Damien sighed.
"There's gotta be a way to break out somehow.", Moon spoke, looking around.
Shaggy and Scooby, however, have already lost hope.
"Boy, Scoob, did we screw up this time. Like, game over.", Shaggy spoke sadly.
"Yeah. Game over.", Scooby agreed sadly.
"Now, we'll never make it back before sunrise and be trapped in the spirit world forever.", Shaggy spoke sadly.
"Speaking of spirits, where are Phantasma and the Boo Brothers anyway?", Scrappy puzzled before he realized something.
"Wait. That's it! They were the only ones who hadn't been captured. And they're ghosts. Do you know what that means?", Scrappy asked before Googie understood what he meant quickly.
"It means they might come for us to bust us out of here!", Googie realized.
"And we can still stop Asmodeus and Revolta!", Flim Flam added.
"I knew we could all get out of this somehow. We just need to think of a way.", Daphne grinned.
"But Mortifer, there's one thing I don't understand. How are you still alive? I saw you die. And why were you working with Asmodeus and Revolta?", Vincent asked.
"First off, Vincent, that's two things. And secondly, you saw part of what happened 10 years ago.", Mortifer responded with a slight sigh before it showed a flashback of Mortifer getting dropped into a bush with the spirits closing in on him as Mortifer screamed before the bush then glowed bright yellow before it was revealed to have been disintegrated with nary but a smoky spot where Mortifer and the bush used to be before showing him appearing in a clock tower 10 years in the future before the spirits scattered and went back to Asmodeus just as Mortifer popped out from the bush and gasped at the sight he never thought he'd see again as Asmodeus smirked.
"I honestly thought I was going to die. But it turned out that they only wanted to abduct me and send me 10 years in the future where I saw him.", Mortifer explained before it then showed Mortifer sneaking out later near Mr. Gibbles' Magic Shoppe, placing a note on the ground before ringing a doorbell and leaving before Mr. Gibbles went outside and picked up the note and gave a concerned look before going back inside.
"Asmodeus has brought me to the future with a spell based on Time Slime's temporal powers he and Revolta wanted me to be their servant. But I just couldn't betray you, Vincent. I wasn't sure if it would work, but I was able to write a note and leave it on Mr. Gibbles' doorstep. From there, the rest is history.", Mortifer stated before it went back to the present.
"Of course. The note was from you, Mortifer! I may have had my doubts, but I am thankful that you didn't betray me after all.", Vincent grinned.
"You are my friend, Vincent. It was the least I could do. Although, I don't quite understand how he got out to begin with.", Mortifer wondered.
"That's something you should ask them.", Vincent responded, glaring to Shaggy and Scooby.
"Like, yeah. It's true. We were tricked into opening the chest.", Shaggy responded.
"Yeah. Our bad.", Scooby added.
"WHAT?! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! Do you have any idea how dangerous these 13 ghosts are?!", Mortifer shouted.
"Hey, take it easy! At least they recaptured 12 out of 13.", Scrappy responded.
"Yeah. And just like on this journey, we have it one heck of a try, didn't we, Scoob?", Shaggy asked.
"We did?", Scooby puzzled.
"I mean, think about how far we came. That took courage, stamina, brains, and, like, those are things that only most of us have, us not included.", Shaggy responded.
"Yeah. Uh-uh.", Scooby agreed, shaking his head.
"Yeah. And we even found out your partner's still alive.", Moon added.
"And he was still helping us, but in secret.", Googie added.
"Well, this is quite a reunion. But I'm afraid it's too late! The world is doomed and it's all my fault.", Vincent spoke sadly.
"What?", Googie puzzled.
"That's crazy. We've all fought the 13 ghosts. If it really is the end, we're all responsible.", Flim Flam spoke.
"No, you don't understand. The portrait hanging in Mr. Gibbles' Magic Shoppe, it isn't of me, but my ancestor. The first to bear the name Van Ghoul.", Vincent responded.
"Oh, yeah. I remember the Goblin King mentioning something about your ancestor.", Googie remembered.
"What happened?", Marcie asked before it showed a flashback of Vincent's ancestor holding out his hand as it emitted a wave of magic before it showed him in his castle in front of the Chest of Demons before it then showed the flames becoming people bowing down to him and then into a dark ball which was clutched into his hand before the Chest of Demon's head glowed before it started sucking him in completely before the chest closed and glowed before showing the ancestor from inside the chest as his hands was on his head before it showed him levitating around columns of fire in human form before later becoming the King of Demons he is today around the columns of smoke.
"He was the most powerful sorcerer the world has ever known, but power corrupts. Little by little, he used his magic to twist the will of man into his service. But the powers of good conspired to relieve my ancestor of his self-appointed throne. He was defeated, stripped of his mortality, and trapped in a specially crafted, inescapable prison where, unfortunately, he had nothing but to wait and grow his already substantial powers. In life, he was called Asamad Van Ghoul, but now, he goes by...", Vincent explained.
"Asmodeus.", Flim Flam finished.
"I'm the last of the Van Ghouls. And as such, the crimes of my ancestor are my responsibility and mine alone. I'm sorry I never told you.", Vincent apologized.
"It is all right, old friend. With any luck, your friends will find a way to get us all out of this cell and stop Asmodeus and Revolta for good.", Mortifer assured.
"Oh, yeah. Like, Phantasma and the Boo Brothers should be on their way any minute now.", Shaggy remembered.
"More like any second. In 3..., 2..., 1...", Googie began before Phantasma and the Boo Brothers phased through the ceiling.
"Never fear, Ghoulies! Phantasma is here!", Phantasma assured.
"And the Boo Brothers are back in ghost-huntin' business! If those 13 ghosts are hauntin', we're huntin'.", Freako added.
"I knew you guys would come for us!", Scrappy grinned.
"Of course we did. Nyuck-nyuck-nyuck.", Shreako responded.
"Guys, do you think you can possess the guards and get them to unlock our chains?", Googie asked.
"Only one way to find out.", Phantasma responded before she and the boo brothers phased through the doors and possessed the goblin guards in charge of them before one of the possessed guards turned to Weerd.
"Hey, Weerd.", the possessed guard spoke in Freako's voice.
"Yeah?", Weerd asked.
"Don't you think we should keep an eye on them prisoners?", Freako asked in the guard's body.
"Oh, that's right. You got a good point, man. I mean, it's not like our celebration is going anywhere, right?", Weerd agreed.
"But we're gonna miss our favorite show, Weerd.", Bogel spoke.
"Yeah, but only for a few minutes. Come on.", Weerd responded before he and the guards went in the cell.
"Oh, okay, Weerd. I just hope I don't miss anything good.", Bogel responded before he followed.
Once they got inside, Weerd and Bogel saw the prisoners.
"Welp, so far, so good.", Weerd spoke.
"Hey, you. I'll bet you wanna escape this key, right? Right?", the guard mocked as he steadily shook it.
"Uh..., yeah. I guess...", Googie responded, not quite sure how to act.
"Yeah, well, guess what? You can't have it, but we're busting you out with it!", Freako assured before unlocking the chains.
"Yes!", Googie exclaimed in joy before the other possessed guards unlocked the chains of the prisoners, much to Weerd's alarm and Bogel's puzzlement.
"We're free!", Mortifer shouted joyfully.
"Hey, good for you guys.", the dead skeleton spoke, alarming Scooby and Shaggy while taking Googie and Scrappy by surprise.
"Hey, you can't do that!", Weerd exclaimed before Freako hit him in the gut with enough force to leave him holding his stomach in pain.
"Yeah? Says who, creep?", Freako asked.
"Now, we all need to get out of here!", Damien urged.
"Agreed.", Mortifer nodded.
"By the way, do you have the time?", the dead skeleton asked.
"Sorry, but we don't have the time.", Vincent responded before he took off.
"You're telling me? I'm dead.", the skeleton responded.
"Aw, man...", Weerd moaned with a whine.
Later, the group was now outside the castle.
"Okay. Now, we just need to get across that hole. I can at least get some people across on my broom.", Daphne spoke.
"And I can at least carry some people through here, too.", Damien added.
"But what about the rest?", Moon asked.
"Man. I wish Broomy was here.", Shaggy wished.
"Did somebody say wish?", Honeybee's voice asked.
"Wait. Was that...Honeybee?", Scrappy realized as she, Sparkplug, and Tiddlywink arrived with Broomy.
"Lucky for you, granting wishes is what we do best.", Tiddlywink responded as Broomy arrived.
"Hey, Broomy! I see you're back in good shape.", Scrappy grinned.
"Thank you. Now, let's get back to the surface posthaste.", Vincent urged.
"Right.", the group agreed.
"Thanks for everything, fairies.", Moon thanked.
"You're welcome, and may the magic of the fairies be with you.", Tiddlywink responded as she, Honeybee, and Sparkplug left.
"Thanks, Tiddlywink. Hang on, gang, we're all going for a sweep.", Daphne smirked.
"Yeah. You got it.", Scooby agreed before he, Daphne, Damien, and Shaggy all flew up through the hole with everyone else holding on as best they can before a certain pumpkin fell down and landed in front of Scooby on top of Broomy.
"What's up, dog?", Jack asked.
"Jack!", Flim Flam grinned.
"You came back!", the red-haired Witch added in equal excitement.
"A talking Jack-o-lantern? Now, I've seen everything.", Mortifer commented.
"You don't know the half of it, Mortifer.", Vincent responded.
"Hey, there's still a little fire left in this pumpkin.", Jack responded before laughing.
"Then, let's hope whatever fire you have left burns brighter, Jack.", Vincent responded before Jack turned around as his eyes and mouth glowed brighter.
"Come on, let's carve!", Jack urged before laughing as the group streaked past the graveyard epitaph on the surface and landed on the ground.
"So, what are we supposed to do?", Googie asked.
"We fly to the carnival. While Damien, Daphne, and the Boo Brothers follows you, the rest of us will follow you in my jet.", Vincent responded as he got out his keys before pressing a certain button, which made a beeping noise before his jet flew in and landed as the panel opened.
"Now, that is 1st class air travel!", Mortifer commented.
"I know, right?", Crystal agreed before later, they all flew through the air by available means with the Hex Girls flying in the air with Scooby, Shaggy, Googie, Scrappy, and Daphne flying into their brooms with Jack in tow as Googie, Moon, and Scooby howled excitedly.
