"Counselor," the captain asked over a cup of tea, "what's your mother like?"

Soriana looked at the captain over her own chilled tea. The two of them were finishing a weekly briefing on HR issues and crew morale in the ready room, and the question came out of nowhere.

"Fun, friendly. Energetic," Soriana supplied. "Always wants to lend a helping hand. Quick with a song or a fresh pie. Why do you ask?"

Picard shook his head. "I had the strangest dream," he shared. "Your mother came to the Enterprise to marry you off. And she was this terrible, rude, overbearing woman with no concern for anyone but herself. A true nightmare."

She chuckled. "I know some Haliian noblewomen like that, but no close relations of mine, thankfully. No sir," she added, "I think if my Ma visits, you two will get along fine."

"I don't like that twinkle I see in your eye, Lieutenant Commander."

"No comment, sir."
