"And while the Watchdogs appear to be no closer to ending this second robot war the number of missing citizens appear to be reaching the thousands. Families from countries all over the world are devastated as they have no answers on the whereabouts of their missing loved ones. If you or someone you know has any information on the whereabouts on any of these missing people you are asked to call the Watchdogs or your local authorities immediately."
Branch turned off the news and rubbed his temple with his forefinger. Things were getting worse by the day. It seemed like they couldn't go a week without another robot invasion, and with their troops already stretched thin they had hardly anyone to look into the whereabouts of Creek or the Raptors.
"Commander Branch?" Suki knocked on the office door before she stepped in holding a cell phone out for Branch to receive "Smidge is on the line with some news on the Raptors."
"Give me," Branch ordered. As he took the phone he signaled for Suki to leave so he could talk to her in private. "Please tell me you have some good news?"
Despite not being a official Watchdog Branch had reached out to Smidge for help in their war after witnessing her impressive actions in their battle with the raptors nine years ago. With them both sharing the same enemy and Smidge's on personal vendetta against Creek, Branch put her in charge of tracking down Creek whatever means necessary. Sure she wasn't a actual Watchdog but with them stretched so thin Branch had to take whatever help from his allies as he could get.
"Well I have a guy working for me on the inside that might know where Creek and the Raptors are currently hiding," Smidge answered. "I am about to ship him out and if my hunch is right then maybe we can figure out what the Raptor's plan is by the end of the week."
"Keep up the good work. I will pay you substantially for this."
As soon as Branch hung up the phone he heard another knock on the door.
"Forgive me for bothering you Commander," Shifu replied "But there is a unauthorized personal entering the Watchpoint at the moment."
"What?" Branch ran out of his office and ran to the main entrance where he saw Po pointing his bow up at the sky. After fighting joining the Watchdogs for six years Po had eventually fully made peace with Shifu and agreed to join the Watchdogs in their battle. Since becoming part of the team Po had been their lead marksman, a title once held by Branch's former second in command Poppy. Po was so precised with his bow that he could hit a target from well over a mile away, and when him and Po unleashed both the dragon spirits at the same time, the two of them could clear a battle field within just a few seconds giving the Watchdogs a major boost in their war.
"What are we looking at?" Branch asked Po
"We have someone in a jet pack flying straight towards us to the east." Po answered as Hiccup landed with Toothless after circling the perimeter.
"A four legged robot along with a child and two other trolls are heading from the same direction on the ground."
"Any other suspicious robots spotted with them?" Branch asked Hiccup
"No sir, just the one."
"Permission to fire Commander?" Po asked as he held the string of his bow back
"Let me see the binoculars," Branch ordered Shifu. Shifu did as commanded and as Branch looked into them to see who was approaching the base, he instantly gasped and dropped the binoculars.
"Lower your weapon Po, that's my daughter."
"That flying thing is Scarlett?" Hiccup gasped "But why on Earth is she coming here?"
"I don't know," Branch replied sharply, not very thrilled that his daughter would defy orders and show up despite him making it very clear he wanted her to stay as far away from the Watchdogs and danger as possible. "But I'm going to find out. The rest of you go see what you can find on the missing people reports or something. I want to talk to my daughter alone."
The others nodded and left as Scarlett landed next to Branch and the robot, kid and twins arrived shortly after.
"What are you doing here Scarlett?" Branch scolded "I thought your mother and I made it very clear about our feelings about you joining the Watchdogs?"
"I'm not here for you Dad I'm here for Tooth," Scarlett countered before she pointed to her bosses "You see these two? They have a extremely deadly degenerative disease that only Tooth can cure, I need you to take them to her immediately."
"You think we are a hospital who can just take any old body in at the drop of the hat?"
"Dad please, the Raptors gave her this disease."
"What?"
"Drago tried to get me to sell my company to him." Chenille cried "I told him no and he injected me with this." Chenille then tore off her prosthetic arm to show Branch the damage the disease had done to her body. "My whole arm has completely withered away and the rest of me will to if you can't save me."
"Drago forced her to sell my weapons to him in order for him to give her a temporary antidote. Dad, these Raptors, they used my company, they could very easily be using others as well. They have their hands on my weapons. You might not like to hear this dad, but you need me. Nobody knows how my weapons work better than me."
"Okay but how does that explain those two?" Branch pointed at Cooper and Harper, who just smiled and waved at him.
"They can be trusted, their with me."
Branch sighed before getting out his phone and calling Tooth. "Tooth, your needed at the main entrance pronto, I will explain when you get here."
Roger that Commander, I'm on my way.
As Branch waited for Tooth to arrive he sighed before turning to address his daughter again. She had grown so much within the last nine years he barely recognized her. He tried so hard to keep her out of danger but it still found a way to find her. He should have known better than to believe that he or Poppy could completely keep her safe.
"If I let you in I will be betraying your mother's trust."
"I can handle her dad, but as much as you don't won't to admit it you need me. I've seen the news, it is awful out there, you need as much help as you can get."
"What is it you wanted to see me for Commander?" Tooth asked as she arrived, she then noticed Scarlett for the first time and waved. "New recruit?"
"This is my daughter." Branch replied
"Oh wow how the time flies. Your mother was still pregnant with you when I last served with the Watchdogs. Pleased to meet you I'm Tooth."
"Tooth we got a patient here that is a victim of the Raptors and really needs your help." Branch replied pointing to the Twins.
"Of course Commander," Tooth then signaled the Twins to follow her "Right this way."
As tooth led Satin and Chenille away Branch signaled for Scarlett to follow her. "Come with me, I want to show you something." Branch then addressed Cooper and Harper "You two also. If your going to put yourself in danger then you are going to see this too."
Cooper and Harper didn't like the way he said that last part, it definitely made them nervous but they obeyed and followed him anyway.
Branch led the three of them to the imfirmary where Branch showed them Reby still lying in a coma. Jo was still by her bedside having refused to leave her. Scarlett and Harper gasped at the sight of one of their favorite members of the Watchdogs fighting for her life.
"War isn't a game. It's not something you wish to be a part of when you grow up. It is dangerous, it is brutal. It shows no compassion, no pity, no remorse. It doesn't care if your young or old, rich or poor, male or female. It will try it's best to destroy you all. Reby was one of best soldiers. She was young, brave, confident. She may have had a little to much fun and loved to play the role of celebrity diva. But she never backed down from a fight, she would do whatever it took to protect her home. The Raptors knew about that too, they knew how important she was to the mission and how much her people loved her. That's why they targeted her.
If I allow you to join this war I am asking you to lay your lives on the line, I am asking you to put yourself in danger. These Raptors will target you, they will try to kill you. Are you willing to risk everything including your lives for this mission."
Scarlett and Harper looked at Reby, they knew that there was a chance they would end up just like her or worse. But at the same time they knew that with her gone someone had to take up the mantle in her absence.
"We are," They both said.
"Then regardless of how I feel I will let you fight. I just hope your mother doesn't kill me when she finds out about this Scarlett."
Later that afternoon Branch held a team meeting with all of the Watchdogs, including Scarlett, Harper, and Cooper. They all met in a large room and sat at a large rectangular table. A large map of the world appeared on the TV screen behind Branch's chair.
"Before we begin I want you to meet our newest members. My daughter Scarlett, as well as her friends Harper and Cooper."
"That's Scarlett?" Suki gasped before running out of her chair, lifting Scarlett to her feet and examining her. "You have grown."
"Well it has been a few years," Scarlett replied uncomfortable with how Suki was examining her.
"Um," Guy Diamond pointed at Harper "I thought I was the crazy one, but you just recruited a child and a talking tin can? Are you that desperate?"
"Hey I might be a child but I probably got a higher IQ then most of you blokes in this room, and Cooper isn't a tin can, he is a super intelligent, highly advanced battle robot. One that is complete hack proof making him safe from Creek's grasp."
"Um Branch, I hate to have to somewhat agree with Guy Diamond," Hiccup replied "But are you sure it's safe for your daughter and a child to join this war? You know what happened the last time we let a child join this war."
"Yes I know," Branch hated to think back at what happened to Fuzzbert. "But I have no choice. The stakes are getting worse by the moment. It was brought to my attention by Scarlett no less that the Raptors will force their way to take control of certain companies that they find will benefit them. Scarlett's company Vishkar, was taken over by Raptor agent Drago, they infected her boss with a deadly disease and took Scarlett's weapons for their own."
Everyone gasped hearing that news
"How is she?" Astrid asked concerned.
"I have pinpointed the precise disease she has it is a rare degenerative disease with no known permanent cure." Tooth replied "I am using my nano technology to see if it can peel away at her disease or at the very least slow it down so she doesn't have to take so much medication at a time but right now it's about a fifty-fifty shot of working."
"These weapons that Drago got his hands on are extremely dangerous and powerful," Branch continued. "Scarlett will get you all brushed up on those weapons and what they do here in a bit but right now I got some other news that needs to be brought to your attention as well as assignments. As you all might be aware people have been going missing at the locations of every Raptor attack. These just aren't one or two people either. Hundreds of people during each Raptor attack the last several months have been going missing. I need people who can investigate these disappearances and figure out where they are, if the Raptors are involved and if they are still alive what the Raptor's plans are with them. Shifu and Po, I am entrusting that assignment with you two."
"We won't let you down," Po ensured.
"Next, thanks to our newest recruit Harper, we have a robot that might just be the key in freeing the other robots from Creeks grasp."
"We do?" Harper asked confused Not even she was expecting this.
"You have a robot that you claim is completely hack proof. If that is true then we can examine how you made a hack proof robot and how we can transfer that ability into all robots."
"It's not really that hard. I got the tech from Vishkar."
"Yes but I blew up Vishkar remember," Scarlett pointed out. The shocked gasps and looked from everyone in the room instantly made her regret opening her mouth.
"I like her," Guy Diamond laughed while pointing to Scarlett "Any girl that blows up an entire company is good in my book." His response got him a punch in the arm from Biggie.
"You did what?" Branch asked
"Long story...plus I kind of put in a no choice situation... I'll explain everything later. Continue on."
"How are we going to be able to fix these robots without that Vishkar tech?" Astrid asked
"How about Gobber?" Puss pointed out. "He is a great engineer, I'm sure along with Harper and Cooper they can figure out something."
"But no one has heard from Gobber since The Watchdogs disbanded," Suki pointed out.
"I kept tabs on everyone for several years after we disbanded" Peabody pointed out. "It was how I was able to send out the recall. He is currently retired and living in Sweden, his exact address I'm not entirely sure but I'm sure I can dig it up."
"I volunteer to track down Gobber when Peabody get's his location," Puss spoke up "I would also like to ask to take Rosiepuff in order to get the hack proof technology in her so she can be turned back online. She is a super powerful robot that we need in this battle."
"You have my permission," Branch granted. Now about the Vishkar tech.
Scarlett spent the next two hours going over every weapon that the Raptors took from her and how they worked and how they could be destroyed. After the meeting Scarlett called her mother and told her everything that happened. She knew Poppy would be upset, but it didn't matter at this point. The Watchdogs needed her, and if it meant destroying her relationship with her mother then that would just have to be a sacrifice for the cause.
"I can't believe you would go behind my back after everything we had...!"
"They were using my company mom!" Scarlett interrupted "They stole my weapons they hurt my boss they were using me and everyone in that company! My inventions, my weapons are out there in the enemies hand. And I am not just going to be sidelined while they use my creations to destroy the Earth. You used to be a hero mother. You used to encourage those to stand up for what is right, that no matter the obstacles you had to do what you believed in your heart, even if you was standing alone. You passed that to me, and even if you have lost it I haven't. I have to fight mother. And I would love to have you fight beside me. But it looks like you have lost that fighting spirit for good. Continue to hide if you want. I'm going out there, and if you kick me out of the house for this, if you disown me or if this destroys our relationship after this I don't care. I'm fighting, do what you want mother, I don't care. Goodbye!"
Poppy teared up over those last words that her daughter spoke to her. Sitting down on the couch Poppy broke down over the fact of her little girl joining the battle. She had such the fighting spirit that she once had, and had the rebellious attitude of her father. She was her daughter in every way shape in form. And for that reason as much as she feared going back into the action she couldn't let Scarlett go out there alone. Getting up she walked to her basement where locked in a wooden crate her sniper rifle sat. Unlocking the box Poppy opened it and pulled out the sniper rifle that she hadn't used since that one day many years ago. The day she lost her eye, the day Scarlett was born.
Poppy knew she wasn't the Marksman she once was, and not just because she had one less eye then before. If she was going to return to battle after seventeen years away she would need some help from the one sniper that was better then her. The one who gave her the lovely eye patch she wore today. Taking out her phone she texted Bridgett.
Can we meet?
