It's a Crazy Thing
They hadn't actually planned to get married, honest. After all, it seemed silly to keep the hastily made promise made by two lonely children years ago who really just wanted to ensure they had friends to keep, but they had plenty of friends now, the kind that wouldn't just disappear into the night someday. So the thought was discarded.
Though they still had fun sometimes, pretending to scold each other for cheating when they dated others, introducing each other as the people they planned to marry someday, telling that guy who was flirting with her (as she remained oblivious) that it was quite kind of him to keep his fiance company while he was in the restroom. Then they realised that none of their relationships were going anywhere. That was fine, after all, as long as they had their friends, and as long as there was each other, who needed a girlfriend or a boyfriend?
It hadn't really bother them, that is, until they realized that all their friends were all in serious relationships, likely to get married, and they were going to have responsibilities to their spouses. Responsibilities that might leave Hunny and Haruhi alone again. So they decided that maybe they were still those children deep down inside, and that a promise is a promise, and that it wasn't like marrying each other would be a bad thing. They really did love each other after all, and what is marriage if not a binding designed so that two people who love each other won't have to be alone?
They, of course, mentioned none of this to the other.
If they (Hunny, Haruhi was far too oblivious) happened to seem a little more convincing when they mentioned that the other is their intended, than what of it? Of course, eventually it was brought up. Sort of. It was really just a joke.
The scene was quite frankly, rather domestic. The two had been sitting on opposite ends of a couch, Hunny sitting to the far left of the couch* with his legs crossed and Haruhi sitting to the far right** so that she had her back to the arm and faced him. Her legs were pulled up and almost (though not entirely) in his lap as she reread a book for the third time. "Hey Haru-Chan?"
"Hm?" She flipped the page
"When do you want to have the wedding?" Another page
"Fall or Winter, doesn't really matter which."
"I like Winter, the bunnies coats get so cute! Plus the snow makes a really nice scene, and afterwards the kids can play in it."
"Winter then."
The conversation ended as if it had never began.
The subject, however, did not.
"Wedding dress?"
"It doesn't matter to me, whatever you and the twins want. Just don't let them get too poofy or anything too short."
" 'Kay."
"We should get a ring Haru-Chan!"
"Oh?"
"Yeah, what kind of engagement is this without a ring?"
"Seems unnecessary."
"Cost really isn't a problem, and it would make me super happy!"
"...Fine."
So he got a ring, and when he presented it to her by handing it to her with a smile, she slipped it on without a word. She ignored the stares she received from her friends when she offered no explanation. She also ignored the gaping looks when they saw Hunny had a matching one on his left hand ring finger as well. Though she was unable to do the same with her father, who shook her and squealed at the way it looked on her hand. When asked where she managed to get a rock when she had been single for the past few years.
In response she shrugged,
"Hunny."
"Mother, Father." Hunny sat stiff as a board
"You wished to speak with us Mitsukuni?"
"Yes, I'd like to ask your blessing to marry Haruhi Fujioka." Of course, he would marry her regardless of their approval, but he'd rather not be disowned if it could be avoided. He was confident he would have his Mother's vote, she absolutely adored Haruhi and had tried to bring her into the family multiple times with varying methods (these methods being Chika, Satoshi, Mori, and Hunny himself), so their marriage would be a win for her.
It was father he worried about. He was the head of the family, a strict man, one who seemed to raise his expectations ever higher since Hunny had decided to be his adorable self. The man was made of steel, he was discipline embodied, to convince his father he would have to-
"Yes."
"Yes?"
"Yes, marry the girl. She'll make a wonderful daughter."
Oh.
Well, you shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth
"Thank you father!" Hunny left as quickly as he could without being rude, not wanting to give his father time to change his mind.
"Does December 12 work?"
"12-12-12? I'll ask for work off for the day before to two weeks after that. I've got lots of saved up vacation time."
"I think it should be at Ouran. We could get Tama-Chan to let us host it after school, Knowing him he'll even cancel clubs for it."
"That sounds nice, though I do feel a little bad getting in the way of some students schooling..."
"It'll just be clubs Haru-Chan, and we can give them some cake to make up for it!"
"Sounds alright then."
The odd thing was, they had practically planned their entire wedding (after months of asking each other questions about decor and guests) by the time Haruhi realized that she was going to casually marry her best friends and long time promised husband. That wasn't the thing that seemed strange to her though, oh no, the strange thing was that they'd been wearing rings that marked them as each others for how long and she had still never called him by his name. So she decided to try it, if only to see whether or not it would bother him.
The house phone rang
"Mitsukuni, could you get that? I've got to turn off the rice." Aside from the slight blush spreading to the bridge of his nose, he nodded and did as asked with no other reaction. So she did it again, and again, until eventually that was simply what she called him.
This change seemed expected, and there was very little reaction from their friends.
Like most other parts of their relationship(?), moving in together just happened. He had noted that she still had another year left of school, and there was no use spending money she didn't need to on her apartment. So she moved in with him under the condition that she would cook and clean whenever the staff had days off (which seemed to increase upon her arrival), and that she be the one to clean their room. Yes, their room. Despite having the room to give her a separate room and still have one guest room, the Hosts often popped up at the others houses and they wanted to be sure they had enough room.
Besides, it wasn't like they had never shared a bed before.
They'd just be doing it always now.
On the subject of 'always', she always seemed to wake up in his arms in the morning, regardless of the original sleeping position. Whether she moved to him or he to her, they never bothered questioning. Really, there seemed no point when they always seemed to wake up warm and cozy.
The wedding was a casual affair, or as casual as someone of his class could get. One her side she invited all her family (her father and a picture of her mother carrying her as a child) as well as the friends she had picked up in school over the years (a few of which had been in love with her at some point in time. Which left the number of guests invited purely for her at seven.
On his side he had his (absolutely massive) family and only the closest of business partners, which left his count at around 70 people, 23 of which were not related to him in some tangled way. These 23 were composed of the immediate family of 4 business partners that had been working with the Haninozuka for generations. The others were all either up to fifth cousins (who aren't even really related), and the oldest guest being his great-great grandfather, a man who simply sat in a sort of respectable silence at all times. Not to mention the few family friends who were so close that they were aunts and uncles too as far as the Haninozukas were concerned.
Then, for the both of them, they had the 5 hosts and their respective plus ones.
Leaving the guest count at an absolutely miniscule 124 guests, as the various students of Ouran Academy who were excused from their clubs that day bore witness as well. Even so, there was enough dessert leftover that cake was being sent home for the students own families.
Later, many described the ceremony as lackluster overall, and quite peculiar upon closer inspection. Sure, it was absolutely beautiful, but the brides facial expression lacked the usual wow, which could instead be found on the groom. The bride simply looked at her soon to be husband with what seemed to be pride, pride at what could one could only assume to be their current state.
The vows differed greatly from most the guests had seen, likely due to them sounding like they were absolutely insane and simply random phrases smooshed together. "You went off to make dinner, so I decided I would marry you so you'd never go off to make dinner again! I remember the day I introduced the prettiest boy I'd ever met to my high school friends as my fiance. Now here we are, and after 16 years of being engaged, and I'm really glad we are. You have my word that I won't ever make you wait like that again, because we'll always be together, just like I wanted!"
This made no sense, as the groom was only 23 and the bride 21. A boy? Surely she wasn't... the idea was discarded when Ranka showed almost everyone at the wedding pictured of little Haruhi. The brides were only slightly better, but many questions were still left unanswered
"You found me, and I'll be damned if I break my word. So I'll marry you, and tell all the other boys that my husband, will beat their brains. I'll be just as much yours as your mine, and we can eat Ootoro to celebrate my awful sense of direction."
Despite being unable to understand what was being said, the guests all clapped. The sincerity in the couples voices was enough for them.
"So Haruhi..."
"Right after this you'll be going on your honeymoon."
"Hm? Yeah, I guess I will. I don't really think we need one, but it'll be nice to have a vacation."
"Well,"
"In preparation of it,"
"We got you a little something... Go ahead and open it now!"
When Haruhi opened the bag, she saw lace at the bottom, her eyes widening in response "Gosh darnit you two!"
"I really don't understand why everyone insists on making a big deal out of it." Kyoya sighed to some of the other former hosts during the reception
"Don't you think it's romantic Kyoya?" Tamaki smiled at his best friend
"Not really, they've been planning this since they were practically 6."
"He's got a point boss." Hikaru was probably just being bitter, he'd had a bit of a crush on Haruhi way back when
"You don't get a say in this you scoundrel! I saw what you gave to my innocent Haruhi!" Ranka had seen as well, and the twins had spent a decent amount of time running away from the two (though they had been saved my Ranka's tendency to stop and hit Tamaki) "Anyways, I think it's absolutely beautiful."
"I'm sure you would."
"Kyooooya! Don't say it like it's a bad thing! I just though you of all people would understand..." The blond wined
"Understand?"
"Of course! After all, it's a crazy thing when someone manages to fall in love with someone they've seen as their best friend for years! It's even crazier when they get to get married."
Kyoya let out a small 'Hm' and absent mindedly touched the gold ring on his left hand.
He supposed it was.
A/N:
*Please keep in mind that I give directions based on the object or person's view (I.e. when I say the couches left it would be right if you were looking at the scene from the front)
**See above
I didn't label the names in the second to last one on purpose, I figured it was pretty obvious. This was made as a sort 'incase you were wondering'. I'm marking it as done BUT, please keep in mind that if I have more ideas for this universe I'll likely post them in here as one shots, because why make even more separate stories. My story 'Never Alone' is a Hunny/Haruhi, but it's kind of got weird vibes because I messed up on writing it somewhere in the writing style, but I can't figure out what or where. Maybe check it out though? Thank you for seeing this trilogy to it's (supposed) end.

P.S.- Yes, I absolutely did throw in some TamaKyo last second, caught you off guard, didn't it?
