I really appreciated Kenny for helping me out with Amy so much, most of the time he was running on only three hours of sleep which made it. My apartment searching was not going as well as I hoped, every single one ended up being too much rent for me to afford or too far out away from my job. My time was running out because school would be starting in less soon and I still had to register Amy. It was not until one lucky night when I saw an ad for a place that I could afford. I picked up my phone and quickly dialed the number...
"Hello?" asked a voice
"Hi," I said "I'm interested in the apartment you have for rent."
"Ah, yes!" the person replied, "It is a very clean unit and it includes water and garbage."
I nodded along even though I knew he could not see me "Can I come take a look it tomorrow?"
"Sure," he replied "you may come after one pm."
"Cool!" I smiled "Okay, I will see you tomorrow after one."
I hung my phone and placed it by my side and continued to look at apartments..."Uncle Stan...Uncle Stan!" Amy called as she rushed from my room...
"What is it?" I asked closing my laptop and turning to face her.
"I had a nightmare," she cried as she grabbed my arm and hugged it close
"What kind of nightmare?" I asked lifting her up on to my lap.
"That I was looking for you, but I couldn't find you anywhere," she sniffed before burying her face in my shoulder "I don't want you to leave me."
"Hey, don't worry," I said patting her softly on the back trying my best to comfort her "I'm right here."
Without saying any words, she hugged tightly before bringing her head up and placing it against mine. She had become very attached to me in the past month, she was basically my shadow and wherever she would follow. As I sat there comforting her my phone buzz, I reached for it and saw it was an incoming video call from Kyle.
"Wow," I thought looking down at my phone "I haven't heard from him in a while."
"Hey Dude!" he greeted when I accepted the call before he quickly noticed Amy sitting on my lap "Who's the kid?"
"This is Amy," I replied with a smile and trying to get Amy to say 'hi' back but she just hid her face in my neck again too shy to say anything "she's my niece."
"Your niece?" he questioned with a raised eyebrow "How did that happen?"
"It's a long story," I explained not wanting to get into the details of everything right "and right now I really don't feel like talking about it."
"I understand dude," he replied, "so what else in new with you?"
"Currently I am in the middle of looking for a different place to live."
"Really?" he asked, "How come?"
"Not enough room here," I replied, "how have you been?"
"I have been studying really hard and I just passed my Political Science class." he replied with wide grin.
"That's really awesome," I replied wanting to tell him how good it felt to hear his voice again, but I did not want to sound gay or anything.
"KYLE!" I heard his roommate call "Come on, we're going to be late!"
"Be there in a second Dude!" Kyle called back before turning to me once again "Stan I got to go…..It was really nice talking to you."
"Bye," I said before he hung up. I turned back to Amy "How about we go to the park for a little bit?"
"YAY!" she cheered

"We are going to look at an apartment," I replied holding out my hand for her to take.
"Oh," she said quickly gabbing my hand and following me off the bus.
I followed the directions to an older duplex that sat at the end of a dead-end street. As we walked towards empty unit, I noticed a man with an old beat up pick-up truck waiting outside.
"Hi," I said as we got closer "I'm Stan...we talked last night about the apartment."
"Oh yes," the man nodded holding out his hand for me to shake "My name is Darrell."
"Nice to meet you," I replied shaking his hand
"Right this way," Darrell said leading the way towards the front door. He unlocked the door and allowed Amy and I to enter first. Inside we were greeted with this old dark fark green carpet, a tiny kitchen with the smallest stove I had ever seen and two of the tiniest bedrooms. It was clean, functional and just big enough for the two of us.
"So, what do you think?" Darrell asked once we were done with the tour.
"I would like to apply for it," I replied with a smile.
He smiled back "That's great...now all you need to do is fill out this paperwork and if you are approved then it's all yours."
I filled out all the papers I needed and now all I had to do was keep my fingers crossed and hope with the best. On our way home we stopped at to get an ice cream cone that's when I found out that Amy's favorite flavor was the same as mine (mint chocolate chip).
"Can I get sprinkles on mine?" she asked.
I nodded and her face lit up.
A couple days went by before I heard anything from Darrell "Hi Mr. Marsh," he said when I answered my phone "this is Darrell from the apartment you looked at the other day and I'm calling to let you know that you were approved."
"Really?" I asked with a smile "Thank you very much!"
"You can come by with your deposit and to pick up your keys," he replied.
"I'll be right over," I said before hanging up
"Hey Dude...we're back," Kenny greeted as he walked in with Amy on his shoulders "we had the best time at the park."
"Hey," I said "so I just heard back from Darrell the apartment guy."
"Really?" he replied with a hint of disappointment in his voice "that's cool, what did he say?"
"He said that I got the place and that I could come pick up the keys whenever." I replied
"Oh," he sighed looking down at the ground "so you're really moving out?"
"Well, yeah," I said, "I just think it's all for the best you know."
"Can I come," Amy said as Kenny lowered her from his shoulders...
"Of course," I smiled
"Well good luck," Kenny said patting me on the shoulder "I'm going to catch some sleep before my shift."
"Thanks," I said

I signed my name on the dotted line and after the keys were in my hands Amy and I walked around to our new apartment. I unlocked the door and she ran in all smiles before rushing off to her new room.
"We get to sleep here tomorrow night," I told her.
"Yay!" she cheered "This one is going to be my room!"
This time on our way home I stopped at a local store and asked them if they had any boxes...Later that evening Amy watched as I packed up what little belongings I had in my room. One by one I packed my things tightly into the boxes before taking out a couple of duffel bags and started stuffing my clothes into them.
I was almost done when Kenny came knocking on my door "I have tomorrow off," he said "so I can help if need it."
"Really?" I asked "cool, thanks."
"No problem," he said waving it off "what are friends for?"
xoxoxoxoxoxo
Kenny borrowed a pick-up truck from one of guys he worked with. He helped move my bed, dresser and tv out of my room. The last thing I had to get was my couch but for some reason Cartman thought I would be leaving it because when we returned to grab it he was already stretched out on it.
"Sup," he greeted
"Okay Cartman," I said "you need to get up so I can take my couch."
"Your couch?" he blinked "I don't recall seeing your name on it anywhere."
"Well smartass I did pay for it and so I am taking it to my new place," I replied sarcastically.
"Do you know how many girls I boned on this couch?" he asked with a smirk.
"Um..zero," I replied giving him a smirk back
"Shut up!" he snapped
"Come on Cartman get up," Kenny said
"But why does he get the couch?" he whined
"I already told you because I paid for it!" I snapped.
"Fine," he huffed quickly standing up "take your damn couch."
"I will," I replied...
Kenny helped me carry my couch outside where Amy was ready to fall asleep on the back seat of the truck. After loading it up we were on our way to a new life. I was nervous about starting this new chapter in my life but I knew it was what was for the best. On our way to my new apartment I asked Kenny if we could stop at the store so I could get some things that we might need until I had a chance to stop there after work tomorrow.
xoxoxoxoxo
Later that evening and after Kenny left us it felt strange being in a different place with just my niece. I had finished putting away my couple groceries and now it was time to settle down for a bit, I joined Amy on the couch. Looking around at our empty apartment I couldn't help but to feel overwhelmed. With rent taking a big chunk of my income how was I going to be able to afford more than what I already had?
"Do you like the movie?" I asked.
She replied with smile "It's funny,"
"That's cool," I smiled back just staring at the tv and not paying attention to the movie... Amy cuddle up beside me until the movie was over. "Well," I said standing up "how about some dinner?"
"What's for dinner?" she asked following me out to the kitchen where I grabbed two paper bowls. Inning
"Cereal," I replied filling her bowl and handing it to her.
"Thank you," she said taking her bowl and walking over to the dining area where she sat down on the floor.
"Yeah," I sighed feeling guilty about just having cereal, but it would not have done any good to buy anything else when I had nothing to cook it in "sorry it's nothing great."
She smiled as I sat down beside her with my own bowl "It's okay Uncle Stan," she said patting me on the arm "we'll be fine."
I smiled back "You're right...we will get through this and tomorrow we will pick up a few things after I get done from work."
