So, I decided to pick this up while I plan things out for Avoiding Damnation. The story has been stuck in my head recently, and I decided to start working on it.
I honestly can't think of a decent name for now, but hopefully that will change with time.
The character is from one campaign I once played and was by far was my favorite character I played at the time.
ENJOY!
Disclaimer: I do not own Dungeons & Dragons or Fate Grand Order
When I opened my eyes, I realized immediately that something was wrong. I wasn't lying down where I went to sleep in my home village.
My hands immediately snapped to my small ornate circlet.
'Abyss? You there?'
I thought at the Circlet
A hissing empty voice replied to me in my head.
'Yes, wielder I am still here, and we must still uphold our deal.'
'Good'
I then turned my focus to something more important
Such as the building I am in being on fire. Which is bad, very bad to say in the least.
I rolled onto my hands and knees before quickly looking for the nearest exit. My eyes immediately caught onto a glowing red sign with the word EXIT upon it.
I noticed a couple of other signs pointing to where the first EXIT sign I found is.
Who would make the words glow like that? It was a waste of magic and ingredients.
I rose to my feet and dashed to the door. I used my momentum and kicked the door down. What I saw next caused me to pause for a couple seconds.
I found a stairwell, the biggest stairwell I have ever seen. The furniture and items in the room I was just in was strange, but the sheer number of stairs and floors underneath me astonished me.
Places with stairwells like this are either mage towers, which don't have nearly as many floors of this size, or Castles, which rarely have stairwells like this.
By Sond, where in the Nine Hells am I?
I immediately start to move again, the building, regardless of where it is located, is currently on fire. Escaping is my first priority and finding out where I am is secondary.
I descended down the stairs as fast as my body would allow.
It was minutes later that I managed to burst out of the building and realize that I was very, very far from home.
The buildings around me were much taller than anything I had ever seen and by far bigger than anything I have seen as well.
Those buildings were also heavily damaged and on fire, everything looking like a battle was happening, but the lack of soldiers told me otherwise.
I wasn't sure who or what did this, but I wasn't about to let them find me easily.
I pulled up my hood on my Cloak of Elven kind and immediately set about exploring the area around me unseen.
It was only a couple of minutes later that I stumbled across a group of skeletons.
They were not armored, which is good, and from what I can tell possessed a mix of Longswords, spears, and bows. The group numbered around 15 in total and I honestly liked those odds.
I slowly maneuvered myself so that I would get the drop on them. I pulled out my short sword and then dropped down on the nearest one at the back of the group, killing it instantly.
The skeleton went down much easier than previous ones that I have faced, though I don't know why.
I cast [Booming Blade] on my sword before moving into another attack and cutting down another skeleton, the magic making it even easier to take it down.
I managed to get a third hit in using another [Booming Blade]
Ah, that is what is wrong. I wasn't bound by the rules of home here.
At home I would have had to deal with things like [Initiative], [Actions], [Bonus Actions] and [Reactions], not to mention the general inconsistency of how well you can do something or critical failures, the one in twenty chance that everything that can go wrong will go wrong, and their opposite, critical successes, where everything goes right.
Not that I ever really had to worry about critical failures, a perk that all Halflings enjoyed.
Here I wasn't bound by those rules it seems, but I still have my powers gained from them. I would have to check out magic more later, but my cantrips seem to be working just fine.
I easily weaved through the attacks of the skeletons, my limit breaking dexterity easily allowing me to do so. I make more attacks with [Booming Blade] when I can and soon enough the skeletons are destroyed.
I found a decently shaded area and hid myself away for a short break. I need to get my thought out and look to see how much of my abilities carry over into wherever I am.
I first tested my capability to [Sneak Attack], I was able to do so easily, I was just stuck in the frame of thinking that I had to have [Advantage]. I no longer needed to follow that rule, I still had to be sneaky about how I did it, but I no longer had to rely upon advantage or allies to use it consistently.
[Cunning Action] seems to translate into a decent boost to my dexterity so that I could accomplish specific actions faster. Those actions were still limited to the general areas of hiding, disengaging, and moving.
[Uncanny Dodge] was similar to [Sneak Attack] in that I no long had to expend a [Reaction] to use it. I could not trigger it whenever I go to avoid an attack and fail. From what I tested with a lone skeleton; it still halved the damage.
I used that damage to test the situation with [Short Rests], [Long Rests] would come later.
I found out that my [Hit Dice] translated into a limited pool of healing that I could only use when resting. Not super useful in a fight was awesome because having to heal without [Hit Dice] is a pain and I have seen people born without a class die from wounds I have easily survived.
When I looked at my magic, I noticed something groundbreaking. I no longer had proper [Spell Slots]. What I had was a pool of energy that I could cast spells from. From what I could compare it to, I still had the same amount of magic energy in me, but I now had more versatility about what I could do with them.
Instead of only having 4 first level slots and 3 second level slots, the pool of energy held the equivalent amount of 10 first level spells. I was hoping that this meant that I could mix and match what I casted like I could cast 10 first level spells or 5 second level or some mix in between as long as the value added up to 10 with the first level slots having a value of one and the second level slots having a value of two.
[Cantrips] seemed to take from this pool as well, but the energy was not constantly regenerating so I no longer had to wait for a rest to regain my former [Spell Slots].
This was groundbreaking to say the least, I was no Wizard, but I could acknowledge how bullshit this is. This would allow full spellcasters to cast…
I paused for a second to calculate their pool of magic at [Level 20].
Nine… by Sond, they would be able to cast nine consecutive ninth level spells. I could only imagine what nine consecutive casts of the [Wish] spell would bring upon our reality, or even any mix of ninth level spells. Spellcasters would become the most dominant force in the world.
I could only hope that now that I was outside of my home reality that I could pick up some more spells that weren't limited by my class or go over [Level 20].
I noticed that I still felt the [XP] entering my body and empowering me slightly. This hopefully meant that I could still increase my [Level] and grow stronger through conflict.
I need to keep on moving though, I need to see if I can find more people and hopefully ally myself with them to get out of here.
I looked out at the group below me. The group had three people, two females and a male. They all appeared to be humans and all a bit below my age. One of the females, one with purple hair, was carrying the most ridiculous shield I have ever seen.
Just by looking at it I could tell it was probably a magic item, otherwise she would be carrying another weapon or even actual armor.
The other female with vibrant white hair, despite appearing young, seems to be similar to a noble from the way she carries herself and her clothing. The male was dressed in a uniform, possibly one meant for soldiers, but I couldn't see a weapon on him.
The fact that they are here means that they must have some form of defense against others, they might be spellcasters.
I continued to observe them as the purple girl easily dismantled the skeletons and withstood their hits easily with the giant shield.
The white-haired girl gestures with her hands and begins to shoot off bolts of energy, knocking back and defeating some skeletons by herself. The male though did nothing, though I heard purple call him Senpai.
I wonder if that is a title of some sort. Purple also referred to the spellcaster as Director, meaning that they are in some sort of organization.
From what I can tell they are not the ones who caused this and might have been dragged here as well.
I quickly moved so that I would be further ahead of them before climbing down from the rooftop I was on.
I then stood in the middle of the street, at my own disadvantage, and waited for them to see me.
When they did, purple immediately moved in front of the male and positions her shield between us.
"Who are you? Assassin?"
The white haired one demanded.
[Assassin]? I wasn't an [Assassin]. I am an [Arcane Trickster Rogue]. Did they have classes here as well?
I started to walk toward the group, and they seemed to get ready for combat, I stopped about 10 feet away.
"My name is Ker Curth, Halfling [Rogue], pleasure to meet you, would you mind telling me what in the Nine Hells is going on?"
They all seemed tight lipped, possibly hesitant about telling me.
The Senpai spoke up this time.
"My name is Ritsuka Fujimaru, it is nice to meet you as well. What do you mean you don't know what is happening? Aren't you a Servant?"
What a strange name.
I was confused, why would I be a servant? I think he might be thinking of something different than I am.
"No? What do you mean by Servant? I think we may be thinking of different things here."
They look at me as if I was an idiot… well the white haired one did, the other two looks confused.
"So, you aren't from the Grail"
Why would I come from a grail? Wait, that might be an artifact or something they are talking about.
"What is this Grail you speak of? I assume it is an [Artifact] of some sort?"
When they didn't respond I continued to speak.
"Do you mind if I tag along? I wouldn't mind helping you fight if it means I can travel in number, especially here, this place doesn't make sense to me"
White hair sighs while purple looks at Ritsuka and waits to see what he does.
Ritsuka smiled at me.
"Of course, welcome to the team Ker"
"Great! But seriously, what in the hells is going on"
White hair, now introduced as Olga, and purple, now introduced as Mash, begin to inform me about the situation.
I was without a doubt, definitely in a different reality. One that is just as dangerous as mine.
These Servants were basically the souls of humanity's heroes and villains given a vessel. These Servants all came with abilities called Noble Phantasms that are typically all things on par with [Artifacts] from home or even stronger.
I would have to fight these Servants to aid in both escaping and fixing this Singularity. Their organization was all ready to save humanity, but someone sabotaged their attempts and now they are here.
I might be safe considering that I am not human, but I might as well help them out, some of my best friends are humans and my sense of morals prevents me from walking away from this situation without doing something.
I wasn't some [Lawful Good] idiot though. I have a world to get back to, a deal to uphold. In exchange for my help, they would start looking into ways to send me back to my world.
We eliminated a couple more groups of Skeletons before we made it to what Olga calls a Ley Line, a concentration of natural magical energy, they were planning on using this spot to summon another Servant so that getting out will be easier.
From what they told me; they were hoping for one of the three knight classes. The concept is still weird for me, as I was used to there being more than just seven classes and they're less classes and more categories in my book.
I began to survey the area around us so that we don't get ambushed. I wasn't sure that I will be able to be of any help during the Servant fights, but I think that my spells should be useful at least.
I could hide and then cast [Crown of Madness] if need be, though if I don't care about burning through my magic, I could also use a combination of [Shadow Blade] and [Mirror Image] to do battle.
I wasn't sure how the [Advantage] granted to me by [Shadow Blade] from fighting in dim light will work, but hopefully it will still make it easier for me to fight and use [Sneak Attack].
I sighed before praying to my gods, I would need all the help I can get to survive this.
