Trope 1: Relations with other protagonists.
The protagonist from this game is the long lost cousin of this protagonist from that game from the mother's side thrice removed.
Trope 2: snip snip, you are now woman.
This protagonist is now a female despite it being shown clearly within a cutscene that they are male, or that their fellow wingmen refer to them as he. Bonus points if its another protagonist's daughter.
Trope 3: Pairings that go about as well together as skittles and rotten fish.
This is Trigger. He is an Osean pilot. He decimated more than half the Erusean forces in a bloody war that was starter by them.
This is the princess of Erusea. She is an 18 year old who advocated for the war but then realises she was an idiot who was led on the whole time by butthurt Belkans. Trigger vaporized her fellow countrymen, bombed her capital which probably also caused her father's death, and she has not seen him or has any setup or foundation with him, or interaction on any grounds whatsoever. They totally make sense together despite them not meeting or having any dialogue or chemistry or that they weren't even on the same side, because the only thing thicker than Cosette's plot armor is weebs' brains thinking this is a good pairing and that makes sense for them to hookup. Think of the property damage and mental trauma the dude caused, come on. You're just writing another cheap fanfiction that looks like it was written by a adolescent who thinks pretty girl + protag = profit. Congratulations you turned a menacing ace into a simp.
Trope 4: Blaze and Edge.
It is almost a requirement that Blaze and Edge be together/have a child/be married whatever because most people fucking love that shit. You add these two in as your main two characters out of the four you best believe that romance tag is getting added too. Hey wait a second, if you make a pairing like this between two characters who have actual relations with each other the thing, then how do you downgrade to nonsensical trash like Trigger and Cossette? Wouldn't Trigger and Avril make more sense? Even Cossette and Avril makes sense! This almost renders trope 3 useless! You were so close to greatness, and yet you failed.
Trope 5: Trigger and Avril.
Never mind. Disregard what was said before. At least this one is an improvement.
Trope 6: do nut steel very cool OC.
This is my edgy angsty OC pilot with an equally edgy angsty callsign and an equally edgy angsty nickname and an equally edgy cool squadron name and badass friend OCs, because he's so cool just like the Demon Lord of the Round Table. He's also his son/daughter/nephew did you know? Or maybe he was related to Mobius the Grim Reaper. Hang on I'll change that to Mobius being his father/uncle. More cooler and edgier.
That's all I got for today.
