'Twas the night before Christmas, and through the UN
It was time for the countries to all meet again.
Sweden and Norway hung stockings with care
In hopes that dear Finland would soon be there.
Italy and Germany were nestled in their bed
And Visions of pasta danced in Italy's head.
France in his lingerie and England in his cap
Had just settled down for a long winter's nap.
Out on the lawn China made a clatter,
By hitting Japan with a wok, "Oh what is the matter?"
England sprang out to join in with a flash
When America came along, bold and brash.
Rome's reflection appeared on the new-fallen snow
And sang a Latin lullaby and decided to go
When to England's confused eyes appeared
A small Christmas sleigh and eight tiny reindeer.
He immediately knew that from Lapland
Came the most generous and giving Finland.
Higher than America's national debt he flew
And he shouted at his reindeer two by two:
"Now Stalin! Now Putin! Now Lenin and Brezhnev!
Malenkov, Andropov, Gorbie and Khrushchev!"
And in the front leading them so clear
Was the infamous Russia the Red Nosed Reindeer.
With a hammer and sickle strapped to his back,
Russia stopped on the rooftop with a clack.
The sleigh full of pasta, white flags, and toys
Was ready to be gifted… until the noise.
"Hon hon hon" came from the bedroom down below.
"England! It's time for Bordeaux and a show!"
Finland shook his head in disgust and dismay.
"Since everyone's up, I guess I have to take these away."
He looked down at the presents, sad about the rules.
"Wait! We're not all awake!" Shouted England like a fool.
"Italy and Germany are asleep like they should be.
Surely you can leave them gifts under the tree."
"Italy's been nice all year."
Said America loud and clear.
"You should give him a white flag.
He'll be so excited to brag!"
Finland examined his sack
And pulled a flag out of the stack.
He rushed down the chimney.
"You two want to come with me?"
The three countries laid presents with care.
England climbed back up the stairs
To be with France, his heart's love.
America said goodbye to Finland, flying above.
Russia sang the anthem of his Soviet people,
And everything went back to being so peaceful.
China and Japan went back to sleep.
Sweden and Norway drifted off counting sheep.
Finland sprang to his sleigh, to order his Soviet Block,
And away they all flew, sharp and fast like a hawk.
England heard him exclaim, as he soared out of sight,
"Merry Christmas to all, and to all a gay night!"
