POV 3rd person

Tarion sighed, staring up at the ceiling. Blood coated the floor - as did broken objects. The body of his dead wife laid at the foot of the bed he laid on, his baby girl in his arms. His wife found out what he was. A cold-blooded murder. After all, it was her fault for forgetting it was in his blood.

The baby babbled in her own language, reaching for Tarion's red hair. He chuckled slightly, watching his daughter play around. "My little girl… My little Tauriel..."

- One week later -

The baby cried from where she laid. Her father had left a day ago but hadn't returned. She cried even louder when she heard the front door creak open. The elfling saw a she-elf walk up to her. The elleth picked up the little girl, "A child? Tarion had a child?" The baby kept crying, the elleth having no idea what on earth to do. She walked outside only to greet a couple of Sindarin elves.

Elwen's POV

'Damn.', is oddly the first thought in my head. First, my brother is executed for the attempted murder of King Thranduil, and second, he had a daughter he never told me about! I'm not entirely sure if she is his kid but the striking resemblance is too much to be coincidental. There isn't even a note telling me what the elfling's name is! As I examine her, I think, 'She looks like she should be named Tauriel. Tarion always loved that name too…'

I remember the Sindrian elves and return my attention, "Oh, hello!" I rub Tauriel's back, calming the elfling down.

One with brownish-gray hair spoke first, "Is this the home of Tarion?" Another one made a face at the mention of my brother. To protect Tauriel, I say, "Yes it is. My daughter and I were going to check on my brother but he is nowhere to be seen!" Guard Number Two raises his eyebrows. Tauriel tugs at my hair, "I am sorry but I am in a hurry. Good day."

I raced past the two Sindrian elves, Tauriel babbling nonsense. I stop for a while, staring into her eyes. They are magnificent. Hazel eyes filled with mischief… just like her father once did. Tauriel seems to notice something is wrong and tugs at my hair again. I then resumed the way back home.

I will raise this child on my own. I will be her naneth.

- Seven years later -

Tauriel's POV

I jump onto the many stones connecting the river near my home. Naneth said that I had until sunset to play. Only sunset! How could I finish my games in such a short amount of time?

The time went by as I skipped along with the stones several times. That is when I hear it. Someone rushing along the road at the opposite side of the river. I twirl around to see a white horse zoom past me. There is someone on the horse. I couldn't make out their face or anything really since I only caught a glimpse. I only saw blonde hair.

I shrug, not really thinking about it much. I stare at the sky, realizing it is sunset. I raced back home, Naneth waiting for me at the door. Ada walks over to the door from the inside and swoops me up. I laugh and begin to weave braids into his long brown hair. I always wonder why I look nothing like Ada! Naneth said I just take after her side of the family. I guess I just like repeating my questions!

Faur is also inside, already eating dinner. Without me! I jump out of Ada's arms and race to the dinner table. Naneth finally made something less leafy and green!

About a week later, I followed Ada to his job. He is supposed to be in the royal guard. I don't think he knows I am following him. However, anyone could spot me from a mile away. The second we take a step out of the village, we hear a scream. I turn around slowly only to see an orc raise his sword about to strike me down. Ada sees the monster and saves me from death's door. And he didn't say anything when I was following him regardless! He grabs my hand and runs to Naneth. She is crying over someone. I take a closer look and realize it is Faur. My younger brother. I scream rather loudly, seeing all the blood. My brother's blood. My baby brother.

Ada drops me next to Naneth. Naneth stands up quickly and holds my hand. I look around, seeing orcs strike down on elf after the other. All of my kin.

Ada and Naneth converse in something before she drags me away from the commotion, Ada growing smaller and smaller through the distance until I can't see him anymore. We reach a tree and Naneth stops. She kneels down to my height and mumbles, "My dearest Tauriel. Climb this tree and don't look down. I will be up shortly." I quickly nod and climb the tree as told. For some reason, I have the urge to look down. As I look down, Orcs come forth and start to rip her limbs. Piece by piece. Naneth's blood splatters everywhere and a few stray splashes of blood hit me. I slam my hand against my mouth so I won't scream. She is still alive… right?

Unluckily for me, an orc saw me anyway.

Trying to evade the orc, I climb higher into the tree. It goes after me until the sound of horses is heard. The monster is pierced by an arrow on the spot. The arrows aren't from orcs though, they are pale brown - just like the ones Ada has! I hear someone come closer to the tree. I curl in my corner, awaiting whoever was coming. Quietly and trembling in fear.

A blonde elf looks up in my direction. His hair looks like the one the mystery man had a week ago. How I remembered? I don't know! He speaks softly, "You may come down now."My eyes well up with ready tears, "My family, are they alright?" The blonde elf pauses, "Yes, but not in the way you think." Dodging Naneth's ripped apart body, he stares up at me and asks, "Would you like to come with me?" I blink, in deep thought. Should I just randomly go with a stranger who fits the description of which elves Naneth told me to avoid?

Before long, I find myself climbing down the tree and holding the blonde elf's hand, walking away from the tree. I don't know who he is but I have this gut feeling that I can trust him.

Legolas POV

I hold the elfling's hand, looking at her every ten seconds to make sure she is alright. She looks traumatized by what she had just witnessed. She reminds me of that girl I saw a week ago. Perhaps that was her. The only living survivor of this village. She also reminds me of that man. The man who came to me seven years ago. The one I called a friend. The one who tried to murder Ada.

Her hazel eyes look up at me. Fear and curiosity shine in them. She asks, "Where are we going?" I feel her grip tightening. She is still frightened, I guess. I waver for an answer, "To my home. Mirkwood." She tilts her head, "That is where Ada works!" Worked, I think to myself. She would be devastated if I told her the truth. She still thinks her family is alive.

I give her hand a quick squeeze, flashing a small smile. She smiles back and asks, "What is your name anyway?" I reply after a few seconds of hesitation, "Legolas." The elfling grins, "I am Tauriel!" I stop myself from looking shocked. Tarion had murmured that name right before he died. No. This is likely not that Tauriel. Tarion didn't have a daughter.

I then ask, "How old are you?" She looks at her other hand and counts up to five. She turns to her other hand and counts three more fingers, "I am turning eight tomorrow." I nod slowly, "I am 1300." Tauriel's jaw drops, "That is a big number!" With her free hand, she waves it in the air. I have to admit. It is adorable and funny.

She then asks again, "Will I be able to see Ada and Naneth?" I stop dead in my tracks, "One day. I do not know when." Tauriel simply nods and tries to drag me along. She keeps failing though, leading to my occasional chuckles. Her bare feet splash in some orc and elf blood mix but she doesn't notice. She probably thinks it is weirdly colored water.

A guard walks up to me - Trastor is his name... I think - and looks at Tauriel. He purses his lips before speaking, "My prince. What shall we do with the survivor?" Tauriel looks up at me, "My prince? So you are a…", her eyes widen as she pulls her hand away, "I-I am sorry, my prince." I suck my teeth, hiding my irritation towards Tauriel's sudden behavior, "Please. Just Legolas."

I kneel down to her height - still towering above her. I hold my hand out for hers. Her hands are clenched tightly at her chest as she slowly reaches out and takes my hand. I give a small smile as I stand up again, "I will be taking her with me."

Since she was obviously too slow, I swoop her up - despite her small efforts to stand on her own again - and place her on Ador. I board Ador myself, the stallion being seemingly at unease by the elfling. Tauriel reached out her small hand and began to pet his mane. I smile at her attempts to calm down Ador.

She turns to me, "Why won't the horsey calm down?" I purse my lips, trying not to laugh again. I shrug and command the others to go back home.

Tauriel's POV

I stare at Legolas as the horse trots back to the Mirkwood place. I have no idea what to expect but anything is possible! Maybe Ada and Naneth are waiting for me! I turn back to face the front, smiling at the thought.

Being the bored person I am, I start to weave braid after braid through my hair. I never liked my hair. Always too flashy. The curls always got into the way of my sight too. Perhaps I will cut it one day. Then again, one day maybe in a thousand centuries and who wants to wait that long!

My thoughts are cut off when the horse comes to a halt. I blink wildly and turn to Legolas. He smiles at me. Something shines in his eyes. Pity. I see pity reflect in them.

He gets off the horse and helps me off. I stare up at the doors in awe. I crunch something under my foot. I look down at them and see leaves all over. Some of it is this dark throw-up green color whereas a bit is pale. I grimace as I wonder where it came from exactly.

I walk in front of the older elves, gasping at everything in sight. I am jumping, mostly, my curls bouncing up and down, up and down. I heard a few chuckles and saw a few eyebrows raise but I decided to ignore them. Being a maniac, I accidentally step into the way of an elf not noticing them. Someone pulls me back and I turn to see it is Legolas, but he looks serious as he stares at the other elf. Very serious. I then look at the elf and tilt my head. He looks a lot like Legolas.

Legolas's POV

Tauriel jumps into the way of Ada. I hide my irritation and pull her back. I stare at him as he glances at Tauriel. He then asks her, "Who is this?" Tauriel blinks like she has no idea what is going on. It looks like she doesn't know how to speak Sindarin.

Ada raises an eyebrow. Tauriel replies, "I don't speak that language. Naneth teaches me Quenya." He sighs, "Who are you?" She grins, "I am Tauriel!" Her eyes shine with curiosity. Ada doesn't budge and continues to frown. I look at Tauriel again. She reminds me again of that ellon. I can tell Ada is thinking the same thing.

Tauriel's eyebrows twitch. She sensed the staring. "What?"

An hour later

I am still hanging around Tauriel. She is still bouncing around everywhere. That is until she jumps back to me. She hugs my leg since she is just short.
"When can I see Ada and Naneth?"

My lips twitch, "One day, Tauriel. I told you already." Tauriel tilts her head, "Why?"

"Why what?"

"Why will I see them 'One Day'."

I sigh, "You will understand sooner or later." I ruffle her hair as she puffs her cheeks.

"No."

"Why not?"

"I wanna know."

"No."

"Yes."

"No."

Tauriel puffs her cheeks some more, "Then I won't go anywhere if you don't tell me." I chuckle, "Then don't go anywhere!" She smiles and says tauntingly, "Fine. If you leave me alone then I get to be told when I can see Ada and Naneth. If you win, I won't ask again." I pretend to think. Yes, pretending. I would never not accept a bet.

Tauriel's POV

The Next Day

I am outside, laying in the grass. Remembering yesterday's bet, I realized I woke up at the exact same spot from where I was the day before. Legolas is already awake and fingering something's handle. I take a closer look. It looks like some blade shaped thing. Knife? I remain laying down since I decide I don't wanna.

Legolas notices my conscious state and smirks, "Good Afternoon." I blink, "Afternoon?" He nods, pointing to the sky, "You sleep for a long time." I grin, "That just means the time passes by more quickly." I gasp, "Wait one second. We need a referee! What if one of us leaves while the other is asleep!"

Legolas raises an eyebrow, "You accuse me of such profanity?" I look at the ground, "No." The ellon chuckles. "But I guess we do need a referee. Especially one to watch a troublemaker like you!"

I'll somehow get Legolas to spill about Naneth and Ada! Until then, this game will be loads of fun!
