Chapter 1
The Dragon in the Anthill
Sabian Kira Volkova, that is my name but my friends call me Saber. I was once call Sylvia Nicole Peters in my past life in a different world only to be reborn into a world of a fictional book.
Yes a fictional series called Pokémon. I was stunned at first to wake up suddenly as a useless pice of meat… a baby. The first three years in this world was torture. I tried being a normal baby I really did but even then my parents were concerned.
I didn't cry unless I was about to you know... go potty otherwise I didn't make much noise. For the first six months other than my silence I was a normal baby but by my sixth month my patience was gone and I began my life by learning their lauaguage.
By the time I was three I started to read simple books, I would have read more complicated ones but I humored my parents and played the silent, smart Child that was one of the few that excelled in smarts compared to most brats.
When I was four things changed in my simple little life, my mother got sick and rapidly declined in health and by the fifth month after my birthday my mother passed. My father immediately became depressed and he didn't work for over a month. When he did go back he slaved over his work and when he came home he'd drink and watch tv.
By my faith birthday I wanted out of the house, father was almost never home and when he was he was in a drunken state so I would lock myself in my room.
My fifth birthday was a relief for I was now taking classes under Professor oak along with the other kids in town.
I was amazed to find that Gary and Ash were my age and I immediately made friends with Gary, his cousin Grace and her brother Travis.
The tree of them became my new life line and with Gary's help I managed to get an apprenticeship with the Professor himself. When the professor had heard of what my father turned into he was glad to have me at his lab any time to prevent me from being hurt by my father.
When I turned seven though was when Professor oak became my new family. Soon after my birthday my father came home drunk and angry. At first he took his anger out on the house before it turned to me.
From there onwards every time I saw him he attacked so I decided to take my few belongings that weren't destroyed to the lab where the Professor gave me a goon and gave me an official title as his assistant.
Three years have passed and I've grown in mind and soul. I only have one more day befor my journey begins along with Gary's, Garce's, Trevor's and Ashes.
———————————————
I gave a sigh as I wrestled with my hair, the black and dark blue mass of tangles were as difficult as ever and it took forever to tame. I had my mother's wavy raven black and deep sea blue hair while I had by fathers Piercing silver eyes.
After a few moments of brushing I looked with satisfaction at my hair which was now in a romantic tuck as it was called.
I was wearing my usual black trainers, grey skinny jeans with upper and lower leg pockets along with loose strings that tightened the waistband if needed and hanging loosely around my hip was a black trainers belt.
Up above I wore a simple white shirt with a dark blue and grey zipp up hoodie on top that had black trimming and had the dragon type symbol sown in deep purple almost black on the back mostly hidden by my hood that rested against my back.
Satisfied with my appearance I turned and went to my door where I grabbed my black newsboy hat and placed it over my head before heading out.
I quickly went downstairs leaving the living quarters of the lab and I went into the main room the I stole a glance at five pokeballs. Three where the starters I had helped care for along with Gary, Gace and Trevor. The fourth was Pikachue that would be given to ash. And finally was the last ball that I knew was meant for me.
The past year I had worked extra hard to prove to the league I could handle more difficult Pokémon so I could achieve my dream. I wanted to be a Dragon and Dark type master.
Both dragon and dark types were the most feared and misunderstood types. Bother we're deadly and vicious, and we're extremely hard to care for and that is what I loved about them.
Dark types had an air of Vicious mischief to them and they had a cruel personality. They were hated my the world for they often killed people. When dark types evolved they were often blinded by pain and rage and would attack and kill their trainers and others around them.
Dragon types were the same with their evolution but they were also often Noble and high. You couldn't show weakness to a dragon or submit to one otherwise it would give you hell. Dragons were picky, fierce, powerful, vicious, bloodthirsty and hard to control.
It was a lot of work but it paid off. The Professor had received the Pokémon yesterday and I was dying to know what it was but I had to wait till tomorrow morning before I would meet my partner.
I gave a sigh before walking away towards the back door ready to start my morning chores. First came feeding time for the Pokémon which took about three hours of the morning then came the Daly switch of some Pokémon. Because of some of the trainers instructions we switched their Pokémon around. That took about an hour and a half then was a routine check of different habitats.
The habitat chek was one of my favorites. I spent about four hours with an Arcanine named jetter running through each habitat making sure there weren't fights, tf their were the small ones were handled by me and Jetter but for bigger ones I was required to call the professor for help.
Once all that was done I would return and help the Professor with anything he needs but if he's fine I return to my room or I go off to have fun. And by the end of the day we give out dinner and then we head off to bed.
By the end of the day I was exhausted and a bit sad, I had said my goodbyes to all my Pokémon friends. I was most particularly sad to leave Wither a blue Houndour pup.
The pup belonged to a trainer the was breeding for a personality and ability sadly Wither didn't have the right personality but had the right ability. Because of that the pup stayed at the ranch and was never cared for by his owner.
Because he was newly hatched and also shiny he needed special care until he was able to fend for himself so I cared for him. For the past month we tried to get his trainer to give him to me but she refused.
She said she might sell him of use him in the future which had made me furious but there was nothing to be done.
I gave a sigh as I sat down on my bed and glanced at my clock. It was alright ten, time to sleep if I wanted to be awake to see the others choose their Pokémon.
——————————————
I waited patiently as the professor prepared the starters but he was a bit unsure about an electric type that seemed to have an attitude.
The Professor had freshly caught him the other morning and thought the mouse to be a good start for whomever made it last but now he was unsure. After the beast had zapped him for the third time the Professor was sure it wasn't a Pokémon for novice.
But the Professor didn't have a choice really with the few hours he had and having no spare Pokémon to give. I could see he was visibly frustrated.
"Gramps take a breath however gets the mouse will figure out how to handle him. We are all your students after all." I said as I took a seat.
"I know but it's one trainer I'm worried about. If he gets this Pokémon I don't think he'll get far." The Professor grumbled.
I couldn't help but smile at that, "he may be bad at training and didn't know shit about Pokémon but hes got hell of good and bad luck. He's so bad he's good so don't worry about it, if he gets the zapper something crazy and stupid will happen and they'll become friends." I said as I looked at the ceiling in boredom.
I could feel the Professors eyes on me for a few moments before his attention and mine turned to the main door that had opened revealing three people. In the lead was Gary and behind him was a Girl and boy.
The girl Grace like her cousin had aburne hair but otherwise the looked completely different. Her hair was long and straight and she had deep honey golden eyes. She wore a white skirt and black hiking boots with white leggings and she wore a golden yellow blouse that matched her eyes and on her head was a black Brewery.
Her brother Trevor on the other hand had short messy brown hair with the same golden eyes as her. He wore simple red trainers and blue jeans and he had a black shirt on with a red and black jacket over it.
Gary's eyes landed on me and he smiled as they walked over to me and the Professor.
"Hey Saber you ready for the biggest day of our lives." Grace said as she sat next to me with her sunshine smile.
I couldn't help but smile back, "sure am, I'm excited to meet my partner but I'll probably wait till you all have yours."
Grace smiled then turned to the Professor.
"It looks like we're missing one, should we wait so everyone gets a fair chance at what they want?" The professor asked with a glint in his eyes.
"No! Come on Gramps we've been waiting for this moment forever!" Gary complained
"Come on Professor it might be hours till Ash gets up, you Snooze you lose!" Trevor added.
The Professor smiled before turning towards the pokeball that sat in a triangle. "I assume you have all made your decisions then."
The three nodded before they all stepped forward and each gabbed a pokeball. Trevor grabbed the pokeball in the middle that had a small flame decorating its front and Grace grabbed the ball to his right that had a leaf on it while Gary Grabbed the last.
"Alright now that you have your partners please take these Pokédex and pokeballs. Your Pokédex contains your trainer IDs but it also tells you information on the Pokémon you encounter." He said handing Gary a blue dex, Grace a yellow and Trevor a red. Once he handed them theirs Grace and Trevor excused themselves and headed out together leaving me and Gary with the Professor.
"Sabian as promised I have got you a Pokémon in the dragon line. It was a lot of work but the league finally gave me a Pokémon that I think will fit you well." He said as he picked up a pokeball with a white bottom and black top, decorating the black top was a the symbol for dragon types.
He handed me the pokeball along with a black Pokédex and I stared at the pokeball in amazement. I probably would have continued to stare but Gary slapped my back.
"Come on now Saber, I'm dying to see what you got." He said with a smile.
I gave a nod befor taking the pokeball and pressed the release button. With a red flash a Pokémon mon appeared before me and my eyes lit up.
I crouched down to meet the Pokémon at eye level and Bedy black eyes stared at me assessing me. After a moment the ant pit Pokémon gave a snort of satisfaction.
This human would do for him, it didn't back away or even flinch from his stare and that was acceptable to him. He wouldn't have a weak trainer only the strong deserved his strength.
I smiled as I pulled out my Pokédex. "Dexter I need info."
Name: Trapinch
Gender: Male
Info: Its jaws are strong enough to crush rocks but so heavy that it can't get up if it flips over. Sandile seize those moments as their chance.
Moves: Sand Attack, Bite, Astonish, and Laser Focus.
Egg moves: Quick attack, Gust
Note: Egg moves have yet to be learned.
Ability: sheer Force
I smiled and put my Pokédex in my pocket before looking at my partner again. "Trapinch I have a goal of becoming the the most powerful dragon and dark type master and to do that I need a strong team by my side to show the world the powers of dragons, would you be willing to join me?"
The ant pit Pokémon tilted it's head slightly in consideration before it gave a small nod followed by a grumble.
"Alright then, I'm glad to have you on the team. Would you like a name?"
Again the orange Pokémon grumbled and nodded.
I smiled, "if it's ok with you you'll be Masa, it means True sand."
The ant pit Pokémon looked at his trainer and grumbled. It wasn't the most intimidating name that a dragon deserved but he liked it anyway. He was the king of the sad so he found the name befitting.
I grinned seeing Masa accept his name and I held my arms out towards him inviting him into my arms which he complied and I lifted him off the ground.
As expected he was heavy, the average Trapinch was around 30lbs but he was bigger than the average and I guessed he was at 40lbs.
"He's pretty impressive but I don't think he's got the best personality for a ground type. He seems a bit high strung." Gary commented as he looked Masa over.
"That's because this Trapinches Dragon side seems to be stronger than his Ground side which is very rare I've only heard of one other Trapinch with a dominant Dragon personality." The professor said a bit intrigued by my partner who was glaring at them.
"I don't think he likes you guys criticizing him." I said receiving a growl of agreement form my partner. "Don't listen to them Masa, I think you are beyond perfect and no doubt they are jealous that you mine, especially the Professor."
This earned a laugh from both Gary and the Professor.
"So Gary would you like to join me through route one?"
Gate smiled but shook his head, "usually I wouldn't turn a pretty girl down but sadly I promised Squirtle we'd go alone for awhile. He didn't like sharing me with others as you know."
I gave a nod of understanding, the Squirtle loved Gary since the day he hatched and he hated when his boy was distracted but Squirtle usually didn't mind me because I helped care for him and the other two starters.
"That's fine, you better get going though if you don't want Trev and Grace beating you too Viridian City. And if you wait to long you won't get their till after dark." I said with a knowing smile.
"Shit! Your right see ya Saber, By Gramps!" He yelled as he ran outside.
"Language young man!" The professor called after him.
"I should be going to Professor, Mass and I have a lot more work to do compared to them so we need to start ASAP." I did before leaving the professor to wait for Ash.
I walked towards rout one only making a small detour to Ash's house where I went and found a pebble before tossing it at a window.
Immediately after I heard a crash and a yell before the window opened revealing a still half asleep Ash.
"Hey wats the big idea, can I no longer get sleep around here?" Ashe growled. He knew I was Gary's best friend and when Ash and Gary were friends I knew Ash was really jealous of me and he blamed me for Gary becoming mean but it truly wasn't me and Gary here was a lot different from the anime one.
"Loser you know it's noon right and that today is the day we start our journeys right."
I held back a laugh as the boys eyes practically popped out of his head and he quickly turned and was out of sight. I giggled and Masa seemed to give a short chuffing sound which I assumed was his way of laughing.
"Let's go Masa, we got a lot of work to do." I said as I continued on towards route one.
The walk was nice and peaceful and we only encountered a few Caterpie, Pidgey and Rattata which were all below Masa's level five so we quickly disposed of them. During that time I quickly learned just how vicious Masa was. When we had taken a break he had burrow into the dirt.
I had an idea of what he was doing but I wasn't sure till a Caterpie was pulled into a sand trap by Masa and I watched as it fell into his jaws and from there it was over for the big. Masa had snapped his jaws closed as quickly and as strongly as he could cutting the but type into three pieces.
I felt a little sick to my stomach but it was the way of life and my Pokémon had to hunt. Yes he would eat poke food but I knew he would occasionally hunt for himself.
Currently I was sitting at the river probably a mile or so ahead of where Ash would meet Misty. Masa was sun bathing on the sandy beach while I sat with a line in the water.
I was hoping for a horsea but it had been over an hour and I'd only found a few Magicarp.
"Masa should we call it quits and head to town? If we wait any longer it will be dark by the time we get there." I said. Masa gave a snort and got up before walking to my side. I quickly recalled him to his pokeball before going back to the path and making my way to the city.
It didn't take long to reach the city and thankfully I wasn't stoped by Jenny, if I was it probably would have been troublesome considering I was carrying around a dangerous Pokémon.
I sighed and continued on to the Pokémon center. The building wasnt hard to find considering it was massive. When I entered I glanced around and found a few familiar faces. They waved and I smiled before going to the front desk.
"Excuse me but do you think you can check out my partner." I asked the Nurse Joy.
"Why of course, I'll take care of all its needs. I should be done in thirty minutes and I'll ring you up when I'm done."
I smiled and handed her my pokeball and ash took it to the back. With that done I turned to greet the others.
"Gary, Trev, Grace." I greeted as I sat down next to Grace.
"So I heard from Gary you got a Trapinch." Trev said
I gave a nod, "sure did and I'm really glad I did. Masa a impressive and he's a lot more energetic than the usual Trapinch. Anyway have you guys caught any Pokémon yet?"
"Sure did Trevor got a pidgey and so did Gary but Gary's is larger than Trevors. But you'll never guess what I caught." Grace said with a huge grin on her face causing the boys to roll their eyes.
"From the looks the boys are giving I'm guessing you caught Arceus himself." I said with a small chuckle.
"I wish but what I got is pretty rare, I caught a yellow Caterpie." She said as she pulled out a pokeball and released the small yellow Pokémon.
"That's quite impressive, she looks great. Her shin is really smooth and her crest looks great." I said as I admired the bug.
"I know, I can't wait till she's fully evolved to, I think with her I might try for contests, I know contests aren't big here in kanto but it doesn't hurt to try." She said as she held the Pokémon in her arms.
"So what about you Saber? Have you caught any Pokémon?" Gary asked.
I shook my head and sighed, "I went fishing for over and hour in hopes of getting a Horsea but all that hit my line we're carp."
"That sucks, I know a Horsea is the top of your capture list isn't it?" Trev asked.
I gave a nod, "it is, kanto doesn't have many dragon types but considering that none of the region's do. I'm going to have to be patient for the most part." I explained as I paced my chin in the palm of my hand.
"So has anything else happened of interest?" I asked.
"I guess, right when we got here I called Gramps and apparently a new family moved in today with twins like Grace and Trev but that's not the big thing. Apparently the parents are super rich and have influence and their kids are setting out tomorrow with their own partners." Gary said with a yawn.
Grace looked really intrigued by this and pushed him forward. "Fine! There names are Leon and Lira. Liras athe girl and apparently she's a real gem in looks and personality." Gary said sarcastically.
"Leon is apparently a bit more laid back but has a nasty temper like his sis. Pokemon wise the girls got a shiny Eevee."
Gary laughed as we all gasped at him, "seriously an Eevee and a shiny at that!" Grace practically cried.
We all had Eevee on our capture list, personality I wanted it to get umbreon, Gary was fine with any of its forms as long as he got one. Grace wanted a Glaceon and Trev loved Jolteon.
"Wait it gets even better, Your going to love this Saber. Apparently their son wants to be a dragon master so his parents got him a Dratini as a starter and that's not all apparently the Dratini's sire and Dam were two of Lances Dragonite, they payed a fortune for the egg it came from." Gary said with a stone face as we stared at each other.
My eyebrows twitched as i took in the info and my mind turned to puddly and I slammed my head onto the table.
"Gary! How could you, you broke Saber!" Grace said as she placed a hand on my shoulder.
"Don't worry Saber you'll get a Dratini one day and I have no doubt you'll train it to surpass that kid's one."
I gave a sigh and nodded, lances Pokémon were powerful and lots of people wanted one of the eggs they produced. Dragon types didn't breed often and the eggs were few. And Lance sold his for immeasurable prices.
It was no secret the man didn't like others to have dragons because they could possibly surpass his team and no dragon or their trainer wanted to be seen as weak.
I brought my head back up as the waiting bell rang and my name was announced telling me that Masa was ready.
"Excuse me I'll be back in a minute." I said to my friends before leaving
I walked over to the front desks and smiled as Joy handed me the pokeball.
"Your Pokémon was a bit tired but otherwise completely fine." She said a bit flatly causing me to frown a bit. She probably wasn't to happy handling a Pokémon that belonged to the dragon type evolutionary line.
"Thank you, I appreciate it." I said as I was about to walk away but she stoped me.
"Saber you have a dangerous Pokémon but I can tell he's loyal and had you in mind he behaved wonderfully but please be careful. Team Rocket would not hesitate to take him so please, keep yourselves safe." She said as she stared into my eyes.
After a few moments I got over my surprise and smiled, "thank you Joy we both appreciate the concern." With that I turned and joined my friends again.
We continued to talk for a good thirty minutes more before we all retired for the night. The boys got their own room to share while me and Grace had our own away from the boys.
Grace was quick to settle into her bed with Thorn, her Bulbasaur and Petal, her Caterpie.
I was up a bit longer, I had pulled out my sketchbook and I began to draw. It was a drawing of Masa when he was sunbathing on the river side. When I was done I put my sketchbook away and went to bed with Masa who had wormed his way into my blankets.
