Neither of them spoke about what happened last night and Lyon was glad that she decided not to bring it up. He was well aware that since the illness started spreading through his body, he wasn't the best person to share a bed with.
He woke up to the smell of pancakes and unfortunately, his own sweat. He doesn't remember sleeping in Juvia's bed, but he can only assume that he was having trouble sleeping and Juvia was kind enough to let him sleep in her bed. He wouldn't mind sharing it with her, but being in the same small space with her was more than enough for him.
"Good morning. I'm gonna take a shower if you don't mind."
Juvia turns around and blushes at the thought of having a guy showering, naked, in her room. She remembers the last night and the way she touched his body, which only makes her face heat up more.
"S-sure. Juvia made us some pancakes." She stutters and holds up a plate full of delicious-looking pancakes. Lyon smirks at her and takes one. They sure are nice. Juvia is gonna be a great wife one day, just not his. That thought pains him, but at least he can pretend for some time.
"Are they good, Lyon?" She tilts her head and Lyon's heart melts at her cuteness.
"They're very good. I'm gonna take a shower. Feel free to join me." He winks and goes to the bathroom. Juvia is lucky because if he stayed a second longer, she would've fainted. Juvia, being Juvia, imagined herself showering with Lyon, his hands on her skin, his toned abs.
Which reminds her of the previous night. Her dirty thoughts are now replaced with worry and confusion. She tries to come up with a reason why would Lyon just show up, out of nowhere, and ask her to spend three weeks with him. Why was he like that last night? Is that somehow connected? She can't think of an answer, other than that maybe he just missed her and what happened yesterday wasn't anything serious. Lyon never said a word about it and she won't either.
Her thoughts are interrupted when Lyon leaves the bathroom and walks out with only a blue towel hanging low around his waist. Juvia stares at his body. She wants to look away, but he looked so gorgeous with his wet hair and his left hand gripping the towel, making the veins in his arms more visible. If he just let's the towel fall to the floor-
"I told you you could join me."
"Lyon! Please get dressed. Juvia is so sorry for staring!" She yells and covers her eyes with her hands. Lyon laughs softly and closes the door to her room to get dressed. Juvia is used to seeing half-naked men. She saw Gray and Lyon with only their pants more than a few times, but having a naked man in her room with only a towel around his waist wasn't something she was used to.
Lyon joins Juvia in the kitchen and they ate a few pancakes in silence. "Should we go to the guild, Lyon?"
"Sure." Lyon didn't really want to go. He doesn't want to see Juvia drooling over Gray, but at the same time, he wants to see the other Ice Mage. It might be their last encounter. After all, Gray is like a brother to him.
"Juvia was wondering, what were you doing for the past year?" She asked him as they were about to head out.
"Just going on missions, exploring the country, stuff like that. How about you?"
"Juvia went on a few missions, too!"
Lyon remembers his last mission well. He can still remember the way his lungs felt as if they were filled with needles. No. It felt like there was a monster inside of him, scratching him from the inside with its claws. The day he inhaled the scent of that stupid, pretty flower. He never imagined that something so little and delicate, such as a flower would be the death of him. He would prefer if he died in battle long time ago. This is not the way he wanted to leave the world. Lyon Vastia, Ice Mage, dead because of a stupid poisonous flower.
"Lyon, are you okay? You seem…angry." He hears Juvia's gentle voice and snaps out of his thoughts. He sees the worry on her face. He must've been so deep in thought that he didn't realize that they have already reached Fairy Tail.
"Let's go." She smiles at him, as if she wants to say that everything will be okay. He appreciates that she doesn't push him to talk when he doesn't want to. Even though she deserves to know the truth.
"Juvia!" Mirajane greets Juvia from the bar, drawing attention to two mages at the main door.
"Lyon! Hi! It's been so long." People don't really pay much attention to Juvia or to the fact that she was the one who came with him. Before she realizes, Lyon is dragged away by some of her guild-mates, including Natsu and Gajeel. She smiles when she sees Lyon getting along with her friends. She sits at the bar and looks around, looking for a certain dark-haired mage, but it seems that he's not here.
"He's not here, Juvia." Mirajane says with a smile. "Anyways, what were you doing with Lyon?" Mira leans over the bar and raises her brows suggestively, making Juvia blush.
"It's nothing like that!" The water mage starts panicking and waving her hands around. She doesn't want anyone to get the wrong picture. "Juvia was just letting him stay over at her place." Before Juvia realizes that she made a mistake by admitting that she let Lyon sleep over, a chair flies over her head and hits the wall behind Mirajane.
She turns around to see Gray, Natsu and Lyon fighting each other. It was a play-fight, a common sight in the guild. She'd normally cheer for Gray, but she can't help but notice that Lyon was kind of struggling to fight them back.
Lyon can't decide if he's having fun or being mad because everyone is so lively while he's literally dying. Ever since he found out he was going to die, he couldn't look at the world like he used to. He couldn't laugh or have fun with friends anymore. It's not that he can't, he doesn't want to. The only time he'll allow himself to be optimistic is when he's with Juvia and maybe then he won't die with so many regrets. That's why he can't let her know that he's in pain. That's why he has to smile now. Besides, the last thing he wants is Gray finding out that he's not well. But every time he creates ice, he feels as if his lungs are freezing.
It takes one hard punch to his stomach to bring him down on his knees. And it's from Gray. If things were normal, Lyon would send Gray flying to the other side of the guild right away. But nothing is the same as before. Now, Lyon is coughing out blood, the taste bitter in his mouth. He's mad at himself, for letting this happen in front of everyone. He can't even find the strength to lift his head up to look at their faces. He imagines they are full of pity.
"Lyon!" He hears Juvia's panicked voice and feels gentle hands on his cheeks. "What's wrong?" It pains him to see her crying because of him. "Please be okay. Please." Juvia's desperate pleads are the last thing he hears before everything turns black.
