At last they were all back in the space-time corridor. Only a few moments separated the arrival of one from the one of the other, so everyone returned in the space of a minute, shaken and still shocked.
"Why are you still here?" Lucius asked seeing them rise from the ground stronger and more determined than before.
"There is one thing you have not taken into account..." Harry said, looking up. "we are unbreakable."
"We survived a war; our hearts have passed through things that you can't even imagine. Do you really believe that one of this mental games can defeat us?!"
"Oh well, in this case⦠here we go with plan B." Lucius walked out of their field of vision.
The whole group began to walk slowly and carefully towards the central room, followed by their dragons.
When Lucius reappeared, he was not alone, so many dementors that you couldn't count, perhaps all the dementors of Azcaban. Followed by at least thirty of the most loyal and feared death eaters of those who survived the battle.
The battle started just as they expected. -The battle without place or time-.
Green and red flashes illuminated the corridors that were about to see hell. The dragons gave birth to a single blaze reducing to ash at once five death eaters and about fifteen dementors.
"No! Stop! You could damage this place!" shouted Hermione putting a hand in front of Zeus's muzzle. The dragons then began to fight without fire, still having excellent results.
The fire line had moved out of the gallery into the central hall. The number of death eaters was smaller, but dementors can't be killed so easily, so they kept them behind with patronus.
There were two in particular that they hadn't seen yet, a shark, and a magnificent eagle. Hermione immediately discovered whose they were: she saw Morgan running and casting spells behind the white shark that swam near her without leaving her alone for a second, protecting his owner from dementors.
There was only one patronus and one person left, a person who he knew was unable to create a patronus. But, against any imagination, the eagle led the way to a boy who fought against his past, who fought against himself.
The spells had broken the walls of space-time with a roar, causing abyssal chasms in the floor and walls, from which you could see nothing but space, darkness and stars, like you were looking at the universe from your little asteroid; surely if you fell in one of those, there was no coming back.
Now as then, the greats of Hogwarts decided to ride the dragons; to be sure not to fall into the chasms of emptiness on their sides and under their feet.
Fortunately they managed to stem the battle that raged violently in the corridor of the second wizarding war; With the Death Eaters getting closer to the exit. Maybe they were beating retreat?
Hermione was on Zeus with Harry who had just petrified two Death Eaters by shooting backwards, then they flew over land on Zeus, fighting while looking at that terrible scenery that would remain etched in their memory for the rest of their life.
Harry was jumping from one Dragon to another running on their wings shooting at everything on the ground and floating around him.
The battle was terrible: none of them had died yet, but there was a long scar on Zeus' left wing, each of them was bleeding and was hurt somewhere, but they kept fighting for freedom, for their lives, for the school, for the students that had already suffered too much, for their world. With clear in mind the pain of another fight after what they had gone through.
A Death Eater decided to reopen the front door to escape, but someone had anticipated them: Neville, Ginny, Blaise, and Pansy, were already at the door, wands in hand, ready to face the fray.
"Dementors!? You didn't tell me there were dementors, I don't know how to produce a patronus!" Pansy shouted as she crashed a couple of Death Eaters.
"Oh, don't worry, I didn't know how to produce a patronus until few hour ago." Draco replied, passing over Hades with the eagle flying proudly above him.
"Well, if he can do it, I can too!" said Pansy, and a few seconds later an agile gazelle came out hopping from her wand.
So, together with the other patronus, a horse, a gazelle, a bear, and Blaise's brand new tiger they went to fight, covering the fire line from the room so that the death eaters couldn't escape.
It was a long time they fought nonstop, both they and the dragons were exhausted, and it was at that moment that an absurd and indispensable idea came into Harry's mind.
"Hermione, come closer!" Hermione moved with her dragon to Harry and Ron on the read Hestia. "Maybe I know how to end all this: if we put the rings close enough to eachother, it would create an energy overload that would cause the ring of hope to explode. I'm sure. We just have to keep the Death Eaters and Dementors close to one of the larges fractures in the walls, because if I could throw the ring in the chasm before it explode; the chasm would begin to close even faster, dragging everything in it." Harry explained.
Hermione wasn't completely sure that was a good idea. she looked aroung thinking. her friends were fighting exausted, the dragons too, she couldn't bare to see them like this for much longer. "Okay, let's do it." Then she flew to communicate the plan to the others.
Pansy, Blaise, Ginny and Neville, and Morgan, who covered the entrance, closed the other Death Eaters in corridor pushing them towards the central hall, because in the middle of the room there was the largest chasm they had created. In the hall, the dragons stood in front if the galleries blocking the death eaters from escaping.
"Draco, are you sure? There's no coming back."
"My father deserve this and so much more, he's a monster, if he doesn't die today like this, I'm going to do that with my own hands." He affirmed still fighting trying to gather all the death eaters in the central hall. Hermione nodded with an apprehensive look, even though she looked more like angry with all that blood on her face.
"We must be quick to get out, or we'll get dragged in there in with them." Hermione yelled to the others halfway.
"Will take our chance" said Harry still casting spells in all directions, towards everyone he saw in front of him. "If we don't do this today, here, they are going to continue terrorizing the wizarding world, they won't give up so easily."
"Good. Harry, I think the time has come." Hermione said reaching Harry and Ron's dragon.
"Ready?" Harry asked. Ron and Hermione nodded, putting their hands with the rings tight in a fist, one against the other; Harry also added the ring of hope, and as soon as the three stones touched a blinding light was released.
Harry with a lightning gesture detached the philosopher's stone from the ring and threw it into the chasm, which immediately began to attract everything close to it more insistently, including the stones to close again. The Death Eaters were going crazy, desperate, they didn't know what to do, not being able to dematerialize.
"So Is this, son? The end? Well. But if I die, you will come with me! Avada Kedavra!"
"No!" shouted Hermione throwing herself from her dragon in front of Draco. And then she fell. Falling lifeless in the chasm. She was saved just in time, before being dragged forever by the absolute void, by Zeus, who took her, struggling not to be dragged by the chasm as well.
All the death eaters and the dementors were dragged in the chasm that was about to close. They flew as fast as they could out of the gallery and closed the doors.
"Hermione! Oh Hermione no..." Draco sighted over the girl's lifeless body.
Hermione lay, as asleep, her young skin and her pretty face no longer breathing when the evil had stolen her vivid last instants of life.
saving but losing.
just a dream.
