Gunshot
Silence. Only the ragged breath of the children, a small whimper from someone in the group. A faint hush that asked them to be quiet, someone reaching out their hand in comfort. They had been told to stay there, to not move until someone came to get them. Someone who they could trust.
Footsteps, clicking slowly across the hallway. The tension in the group rising as the children braced themselves, lowering themselves as much as possible behind the tables.
With a click, the door opened, swinging with an ominous creak. Another child whimpered, knowing what was to come. What they had been taught would happen. Gasping as the steps came closer, sweaty little hands clinging to each other as they prayed. To whatever God would help them.
And then they saw a pair of blue eyes staring down at them. Kind and careful, her irises the shade of the sky.
"Come now, children. You will be safe with me. The man is not here."
They peered over their classroom desks, not fully convinced. But something about her was comforting, trustworthy. She raised her gloved hand to her lips and made a gesture to be quiet, her finger raised. Then she silently asked them to follow, walking slowly but confidently to the door. They followed.
Nobody asked why she was carrying an umbrella- it was hot outside. Nobody even asked her name. Just followed her through the hallways.
Some of the children looked for their teacher, the one who had directed the man away. The one who kept shouting, his shouts followed by a sound that caused them indescribable fear. But she was nowhere to be found and they remained silent. Besides their heavy breathing.
Leading them through a door, she led them out of the grounds where they could see the flashing of red and blue. They started running, crying. Reaching the cars before they wondered where the lady had gone. But she had disappeared altogether, nowhere in sight. She could not have been a policewoman, nor was she a teacher.
She had come and gone, as if she had disappeared with the wind that brushed past them. On her way to other children who needed her.
5/11/2020: Hello, I've tried to upload new chapters and it doesn't seem to be working. Therefore, I've created a new story that continues this prompt list. It should be available under MP or under my writing page. This collection isn't completed but for the sake of being available, I've had to continue them in a whole new story as it seems to have reached its chapter limit.
I want to say thank you to everyone who has read prompts 1-93. I appreciate every view, every comment, every like, and follow. It has meant a lot to me to still see you guys around and enjoy the same film and characters as I do. Hope to speak to you again on my new story! Love you all loads. What a wild ride this has been!
