Why...why did she always have to be like this when it came to Sasuke? Hell...why did she have to be like this when it came to any Sasuke?
The pinkette's chin rested in the palm of her hand as she quietly observed the male that stood in front of her. His response to this being to stare right back at her, the glint in his eyes hinting towards the amusement he felt at their current situation.
It's been like this ever since she woke up, awkward on her end, and yet somehow amusing on his. It was like he enjoyed watching her squirm, fumbling her actions carelessly while all he had to do to get her in a jumble was breath. It was infuriating, how much he took pleasure in watching her screw up. If it weren't for his pretty little face, Sakura would have happily pummeled him into next week.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" She blurted, her nose scrunching in an unpleasant manner. When Sakura first imagined having Sasuke staring at her like this, she thought she would be up on cloud nine, finally having all of his attention on her and her alone...but now that she actually knew her teammate and his lack of affection...she couldn't help but feel like all of this was fake. There was something that stopped her from enjoying what she thought would be the highlight of her life, but she couldn't quite say what.
"Hm?" Sasuke gazed back at her, the look in his eyes almost impassive. As if his focus wasn't on her, but the thoughts in his head. It seemed like he was scheming something. Whatever that something was, Sakura didn't know, however she wasn't sure if she wanted to find out.
"T-tch! W-well would you mind!? I actually enjoy my privacy thank-you-very-much!" With a forced huff, Sakura's head turned to the side, using all of her strength to fight the blush that threatened to rise. Despite her flustered complexion, part of Sakura did feel like her privacy was being invaded. Knowing that his eyes were on her… analyzing her every move. It made her feel vulnerable. Was this how Sasuke felt when all of his fangirls fawned over him?
If Ino saw her in this situation, she would have called her rival a complete idiot, for not taking advantage of the situation and enjoying this Sasuke while she could. If only her teammate would know how wrong it would have felt to do such a thing. This boy was not Sasuke...yet at the same time, he was.
As Sakura besieged herself in her thoughts, the male that stood across from her pouted, obviously not satisfied with the lack of attention he was being given. "Come on Sakura, let's go out and do something! We're obviously not getting anything done here." As he spoke, Sasuke advanced towards the unsuspecting girl, seemingly lost in her thoughts, even now. It was only as his arms wrapped around her neck affectionately that Sakura was snapped out of her daze, her face lighting up like a matchstick. And Sasuke was the one to strike it.
"S-sasuke! What the hell!?" Sakura didn't have enough of a conscience to push the male off of her, let alone think clearly. As of now, she was barely able to generate a single competent thought. Whoever this "Sasuke" was...he was bold, scarily so.
It seemed that he too was at a loss for words, merely staring back at the pinkette's reaction in awe. He planned to gauge her reaction, seeing if she was similar to the Sakura of his world…However, this was simply another moment for him to realize that this was not the same girl that he had grown to know...no. This Sakura Haruno was not the same one that would pummel him into a wall without a second thought, and call him "Charasuke" rather than his given name just to remind him exactly what he was to her.
An annoyance.
No, this Sakura wasn't yet tainted by the horrors of this world, this Sakura didn't hold the weight of the village on her shoulders. This Sakura actually cared about the way he looked at her, this Sakura still held a part of her ignorance, her innocence, a potential light to someone's world. This Sakura...returned his feelings...yet at the same time, she didn't.
Curious, emerald orbs continued to stare back at the male, waiting for an answer that would never come. His eyes bored into her skull, making every second feel like minutes as she squirmed under his gaze. Just...what was he thinking right now? The look in his eyes was not of their usual playful nature, yet they didn't hold the hostility that she was used to seeing either.
"Sasuke…?"
Sakura's words were enough to pull his mind back to what was right in front of him, her eyes mirroring the softness of her voice. His mouth opened partially, still gathering himself from what had just occurred. A few more seconds had passed before his head nodded in recognition, the arms that were previously wrapped around her neck now placed at his sides.
"I think...I think I should get going…" He murmured, standing up straight before heading towards the door.
Emerald eyes narrowed in his direction, curiosity plaguing the kunoichi's thoughts as she mirrored her actions, fixing up her hair last minute before walking to Sasuke's side. "I uh...I think we should try and avoid any heavily populated areas. I don't want to cause any suspicion. Especially since Sasuke-kun is supposed to be out of the village."
At Sakura's words, Sasuke merely shrugged, his hands stuffed in his pockets in a careless manner. "I was about to ask about that anyway...I still have so many questions about all of this. Like how did I get here?" His voice was quiet, as if he too were contemplating these questions as they were asked.
"How about we go somewhere else? I mean...it'd be safer to stay here, but my parents should be on their way home now and I don't think we have enough time to have a proper chat without being interrupted...since I passed out and everything… And I don't want them to find you here because they know of yo- I mean...Sasuke-kun's leave with Kakashi."
At Sakura's words, Sasuke let out a small chuckle, shaking his head before leaning against a nearby wall. "You know...I'm Sasuke as well. Maybe you should start thinking of another way to address me."
Sakura's response to this was quick, her head shaking as if she were refusing the suggestion altogether. "You said it yourself, you are Sasuke...but not Sasuke-kun. That's how I'll tell the difference." As she spoke, Sakura locked her hands behind her back and smiled as if she had solved the problem with those few words. The only difference was the suffix.
With this observation, Sasuke pouted, an attempt to keep up the lighthearted mood. "Awww, why can't you call me 'Sasuke-kun' instead?" He asked, his voice playful as he pushed himself off the wall and towards his pink haired teammate.
"Because you're not Sasuke-kun." She replied simply before opening up her door and taking a step out, waiting for her comrade to do the same before closing the door behind them and locking it.
"So...we'll go to your apartment then." Sakura stated, beginning to move forward as if it had been a normal event, to visit her teammate's living quarters without his permission.
"Wait, I live where?" Sasuke couldn't help but raise a skeptical eyebrow, his onyx eyes expressing his disbelief. "I don't...live in the compound?"
Well... it seemed like his apartment wasn't an option anymore.
At the mention of that place, Sakura paled. It was as if the whole world had crashed in on itself and it made her realize, they had skipped a very important discussion in that house. A very, very important discussion.
"Sasuke...W-we need to go...now."
Before Sasuke was able to ask why, Sakura grabbed his wrist and dragged him out towards the bridge that Team Seven usually met on, one of the few places Sakura was able to call her safe haven. She was careful as they walked through the streets, moving in the shadows to try and avoid detection. Even then, she was afraid to have almost been spotted by a few of her classmates, the group in particular being Ino, Shikamaru, and Choji.
It wasn't anything new to catch them out, spending time walking around the streets of Konoha. On any normal day, Sakura would have walked up to the trio and greeted them, asking them about the most recent events to try and forget her bouts of loneliness, however today was no ordinary day...and oddly enough...she didn't feel lonely either.
"Sasuke, lower your chakra." Sakura hissed, eyeing the trio carefully... especially the blonde that was currently berating both of the boys about being insensitive to her daily duties as a woman. If there was anyone that would be able to pick Sasuke out of a crowd other than Sakura herself, it was Ino.
Without so much as a question, Sasuke was able to lower his chakra levels to the point where it was undetectable. It was one of the many tricks that Sasuke was capable of pulling off, reminding the pinkette that no matter how different he may act compared to the Sasuke she knew, this one was just as skilled.
After checking the road once more and making sure that Ino and the rest of her group weren't planning on turning around anytime soon, Sakura gave her companion a firm nod. "I think we're clear to go."
Sasuke then returned her nod in response, mirroring her movements as they began to sneak out from around the corner and away from some of the only people in the village that would bother to notice their presence. Of course, that was not something that lasted long. If there was any one thing Sakura was confident of at this point, it was that any member of Team Seven, no matter what universe you came from, had terrible luck.
Before Sakura and Sasuke were able to make it a safe distance away from their classmates, a high pitched voice had stopped them both in their tracks.
"Sasuke! Sakura! Hey! What do you two think you're doing over there huh?" Ino's hands were placed on her hips, a suggestive eyebrow raised as she eyed the two genin in front of her.
Unlike Ino who seemed to be particularly interested in their duties, Choji was munching away on his potato chips, giving the two a passive nod in greeting. Oddly enough, Shikamaru seemed mildly interested in the sighting, however it was for a reason completely separate to Ino's.
Before either of the two engaged the trio, Sakura leaned towards Sasuke's ear and whispered. "Play it cool, Sasuke-kun rarely speaks so just...grunt or just… speak when you feel it's absolutely necessary!"
As if a switch had been flipped, Sakura put on a smile, returning her childhood rival's greeting. "Hey there Ino! I...didn't expect to see you here!"
Almost as if on instinct, Ino made a mocking hand motion as Sakura spoke, that same hand returning to her side as soon as she stopped. "Yeah, yeah, or so you say...soooo, what're you doing? And with Sasuke-kun nonetheless! I thought he was out of the village training with Kakashi-sensei!"
Playing his role as best he could, Sasuke did nothing more than gaze off towards the side street, shifting his gaze towards Ino at the sound of his name before looking away once more.
"O-oh! Sasuke-kun was just u-uh...gathering some more weapons! Kakashi-sensei and himself managed to damage quite a few...so he's just restocking!" As Sakura stuttered, she couldn't help but silently curse herself. Not only was that out of character, but Sasuke wouldn't be so careless as to destroy his weapons during training...however she didn't know what kind of training was going on between the two so, for now, she could only wonder.
Ino seemed to brush this off, however there was a gaze of suspicion that made all of the wetness in Sakura's mouth disappear. This look not only came from her, but Shikamaru as well. She guessed that the only reason Choji wasn't giving her that same exact look was the fact that he wasn't paying attention to the conversation.
"Oh, yeah...sure...if you say so." Ino shrugged, however the sound of her voice made Sakura stiffen like a board.
"Look, we'd love to stay and chat, but Sakura and I have some business we need to get to." Her head shot up at the feeling of Sasuke's hand closing around her wrist, however his gaze impassive as ever, boring into the skulls of the three individuals in front of them.
This time, Shikamaru spoke up, his hand resting behind his neck in a careless manner. His posture was one of indifference, however as soon as Sakura caught the tone of his voice, she knew he was onto them. "Well then, don't let us stop you. Go on. I'm sure we'll catch you all sometime later."
Without any more to say, Sasuke turned around and continued to walk in the direction that Sakura led them in earlier, despite the fact that he himself wasn't sure on where she was leading them. That same pinkette got dragged away in the process.
As the duo walked away, with Sakura now massaging her abused wrist, Ino and Shikamaru stared at their backs, a look of suspicion playing on their features.
"Do you think something's up Shikamaru?"
The blonde turned towards her teammate, as if asking for a confirmation of the thoughts that ran through her mind.
"I can't be sure." He replied, shrugging his shoulders yet keeping his gaze on the retreating backs of their classmates that were now being drowned in the sea of people ahead of them, "But it's possible."
Sakura soon took the lead once more, after making sure that they were out of Ino and Shikamaru's line of sight. Even as she walked ahead, Sakura knew that those two have at least caught onto something back there...it was a guarantee that she was going to be questioned by the duo sometime soon. Really, back there, her only saving grace had been Sasuke. She wasn't sure what he acted like normally...but all she knew was that he really held his character well back there. For a moment, she actually believed that it was her Sasuke-kun that dragged her away from that downhill slope. It was only as she remembered where they were going and why that she remembered that no matter their identical appearance, this was not the Sasuke that belonged here.
As soon as she was sure they were clear, her pace had slowed considerably, so much so that her male companion nearly smacked himself into her back due to not paying enough attention. It was a close call really, only one more step and his face would have met the back of her head...not that he would have particularly minded.
She smelled like cherry blossoms...he had noticed so earlier. It was a calming scent, one that he wouldn't mind indulging himself in sometime in the future, however this was not the place nor time for him to be thinking those thoughts, especially not after hearing about his living arrangements in this world.
It was when a very familiar bridge came into view that Sasuke understood where he was being led.
"So...this is where you want to talk huh?" He asked, raising a brow at the kunoichi in front of him. "And you're confident no one will bother us here?"
Sakura nodded her head in approval almost immediately. "Yeah...of all the times that Team Seven has met up here, not once has someone walked in on us, not only that but it's nighttime, so I doubt anyone would want to come here now."
As Sakura spoke, Sasuke leaned back onto the railing of the bridge, keeping his gaze on his teammate. "Aa. You came here though so...there's that."
The pinkette couldn't help but roll her eyes, a slight blush tinting her cheeks at the reminder. " Y-yeah well...it's me and only me!...And maybe Naruto." She let out a huff, knowing full well that Sasuke wouldn't bother to waste his time sauntering off to a place that she or the blonde may reside. It was a fantasy that she had, one day running into him on a day off, giving her a chance to take him out on a date or something like at the end of the day, but that was just it. It was a fantasy...and nothing more. It was during that genjutsu before the exams...that she was finally able to come to terms with that.
"Who is that? Naruto I mean...I've never heard his name before."
That statement within itself was more than enough to make Sakura's eyes widen. Naruto and Sasuke were like two peas in a pod, whether they were willing to admit so or not. One really got nowhere without the other, they helped drive each other to get better, and yet this Sasuke was saying that he's never heard of him?
"Naruto...is our teammate." Sakura replied slowly, holding her hand up to her chest almost fondly. "He's blonde...extremely annoying, yet just as hardworking as anyone. If not more." Despite his obnoxious behavior, she really did consider him someone she cared for. This was shown in the Chunnin Exams…when she was foolishly willing to throw her chances of becoming a Chunnin simply to preserve his chances at becoming Hokage.
At Sakura's description of their supposed teammate, Sasuke could only raise a skeptical brow. "Oh...well I mean in my world, you and I do have a blonde teammate, but his name is Menma! He's so annoying...he's good at everything, yet acts so calm, like there's nothing in the world that could bother him. Not only that, but he has all the girls going for him too. " Onyx orbs rolled at the last statement, as if that was the biggest problem he had out of everything that was listed.
"You...really are an odd one huh?" Sakura sighed, leaning on the other side of the bridge with her arms draped over her midsection in a casual manner.
No matter how much this guy looked like Sasuke...that attitude of his always managed to remind her that looks could indeed be deceiving. Despite that fact, she did see some potentially appealing aspects about him, such as his skill level as well as his ability to stay on task despite him making it seem otherwise.
"So...he's the guy you were talking about earlier? The one that the other me liked?"
Sasuke's head nodded in response, the look in his eyes now reminding her of the one that her Sasuke usually wore. At first she believed it was a sign of dismissal, that he wasn't interested in the conversation and would rather move onto the next topic. However, with how this Sasuke used it, it made it seem like he was almost...jealous, or at the very least, annoyed.
"Okay...so since we're here and I'm pretty confident we're alone...do you mind telling me a bit about your life? Like the basics, who you live with, what you do...and maybe how you got here?" For some reason, it was difficult for Sakura to get those words out of her mouth. Was it because of Sasuke? It was entirely possible...however she wasn't in all that much of a rush to find out. The last thing she wanted was to be on the bad side of both the Sasuke's in her life.
At hearing Sakura's words the raven haired genin let out a small grunt, a smirk plastered over his lips. "Well, if you want to know...I'm Sasuke Uchiha, the youngest son of Fugaku and Mikoto Uchiha, and my older brother is Itachi Uchiha. Due to him defecting from Konoha a few years back, I am now the heir of the Uchiha Clan. I still live with my parents to this day...but my brother hasn't been seen since. I like tomatoes, as well as…" He paused, his eyes lazily shifting towards his surroundings despite the lack of expression on his face. "Well there are honestly a lot of things that I hate. My future goal is to bring my brother back home...no matter what it takes." Subconsciously, the fist that rested at his side clenched, almost to the point where he was able to draw blood. However, before that was able to happen, the male loosened his grip and decided to face his pink haired companion.
" As for how I got here...I'll admit, I didn't notice anything particularly out of the ordinary which was foolish of me to let happen, especially considering I'm in this situation now. However, there was a sudden flare in chakra somewhere. I thought it was someone training nearby, and considering I'm in the training fields...I didn't think much of it. It happened a few minutes before I ran into you to be honest."
Sakura's gears turned in her head, attempting to remember if she's ever heard the name Itachi before. It sounded important...and considering her Sasuke's attitude, she couldn't help but wonder if Itachi had played a big role in his life as well. 'That's impossible!' She seethed, shaking her head to try rid herself of the thought immediately. 'All of the Uchiha were massacred...Sasuke-kun is the last one.'
...The last one…
He doesn't know.
At this reminder, Sakura's hands flew to her mouth, a small gasp escaping her lips as she did so.
As the Uchiha observed this, he could only look at her in confusion, his brow raised as if urging her to inform him of the thought that now occupied her mind. Especially since nothing had really been said in the last few seconds that passed.
"Sasuke…" She tried to speak with an even voice, however that was not the case. Her voice was just barely audible, barely above a whisper as her usually energetic, viridian orbs were now filled with sorrow. Once again, her hands were held to her chest, expressing the difficulty it was to make her thoughts into words.
"Hm? What is it Sakura?" His eyes lay on the pinkette once more, narrowing as if he were attempting to decipher the look she now cast towards him. The words that followed made his whole world shatter.
"In this world, your family is dead...your clan was massacred. Here...you're the last Uchiha."
That's all folks! I hope you're enjoying the story! These first chapters are more of an introduction to our characters and what may potentially be brought up again in the future. I hope you all like my little backstory of Charasuke! Since we aren't given much information on him in RTN, I had to try and make up something myself. I hope you all think of it as acceptable! Don't think this is the deepest we will go into it though, I have plans to revisit the idea on a much deeper scale.
Since I know the question will come up eventually, I am shipping Sakura with the regular Sasuke from the canon verse. He just won't play as big a role ( yet ) in this as Charasuke. I mayyy make a few teases at Charasuke and Sakura though, so...yeah!
I would really appreciate some feedback on my writing, as well as some thoughts on the story!
Thank you all again for reading! Until next time!
