Chapter 2

Tobias POV

Thank god I made it out without being seen out. Now I will just have to worry about him later. I push him to the back of my mind. My shoulders still hurt a bit although the hot shower did help me to relax, still I wince a bit while driving.

I continue to drive around not much has changed but there are lot of new shops and cafes. I spot a nice café. It looks cozy so I decide to head inside.

I enter and am greeted by Bud. We both stand for a second surprised and stare at each other, finally overcoming his confusion he smiles and claps me on the back teasing, "Back so soon Four?"

I reply yes a bit sheepishly.

"So what do you want?" He asks whipping out a notepad.

"I'll have a black coffee." I decide and make my way towards the counter while he goes inside the kitchen. I open my laptop and prop it on the table and scan the list of job vacancies.

Just then Bud brings me my coffee, I thank him and she says, "It was nice meeting you Four but I gotta go now anyways the coffee's on the house. Have a good time! And we'll catch up later."

"Bye Bud I'll see you again" I reply as I wave to him. I continue scanning the list while sipping my coffee.

Sometime later somebody enters and sits beside me. "Hey Matthew did Tori leave already?" The girl beside me asks. She has a beautiful voice soft and melodic.

"Yes just two minutes ago. I presume you will have the usual?" the waiter who I now know is Matthew says.

"Yep" she replies popping the "p". As I'm busy sending an e-mail to the local gym asking for their requirements I don't pay her much attention at least until she says, "Hi"

"Hey" I reply without looking up.

"Well at least you should look at people when they're talking to you" She says a bit irritated. I am about to give a sarcastic reply but when I look at her I am struck dumb, she has the most beautiful grey eyes which remind me of a storm, with a hint of blue and long blonde hair which frames her face in waves and clear beautiful skin.

"Hello?" She snaps and I break out of my trance and blush a little hoping that she didn't notice that I was staring at her. "Yeah what?" I question instead.

"So are you new around here?" She asks her tone softer now

"Umm.. yes" I reply dumbly my brain has a hard time processing around her but at least I managed to utter coherent words.

"I'm Tris" she introduces herself. Wow, that's a badass name I think to myself and say, "Well I'm Four".

She is definitely surprised by that as she says "So Four what do you do?" she asks her beautiful grey eyes filled with curiosity.

"Well I just moved here so currently I am looking for a job."

"Oh what kind of job are you looking for?"

I shrug and say "Well I just completed a degree in law so I was looking for a firm but there isn't any vacancy available yet. So I'll take any job till then."

"Hey that's great! I work for Dauntless law firm and we just had a recent vacancy, so would you like to apply for that?" She says that and hands me a business card which has the firm's address and number on it.

I reply, "Thank you but I can search for myself."

Shit! I mentally kick myself as she narrows her eyes at me and says in a cold tone, "Well excuse me for helping, and have a good day."

Before I can apologize she gets up and leaves stopping only to pay for her order.

Damn my trust issues! Ugh! I had finally talked to someone but I managed to screw that up as well. I was going to have to talk with her. I sigh and continue my search. Still thinking about the offer.

I am really distracted by now and my mind wanders back to her. Tris. Her beautiful eyes, her soft blonde hair and petite frame. I try to focus but it's of no use so I get up and go outside and call my best friend Zeke. It's the first time I'm calling him since I came here.

"Hey Four, how's it going man?" He immediately picks up and answers

"Hey Zeke I am back in Chicago and-" I inform him but the rest of my sentence is cut off by him cheering. "Finally! Four tell you what come to my house and we will catch up but hurry I need to go soon." He says.

"Ok fine text me the address I'll be there soon" I reply and hang up.

I get in the car and set up my destination in the GPS. Thankfully it's close by and I reach there soon. To my surprise it is quite big. It's a two storey house with cream coloured walls. And a nice front yard

I park my car and get out. Just as I am about to knock on the door it is opened by a over-enthusiastic Zeke.

"Zeke?" I question though there is no need as it is clearly him.

He grins and replies in true Zeke fashion, "The one and only Zeke Pedrad at your service."

"Hey man nice house."

"Thanks Four, now come in or are you just going to stay there?" a new voice says and I recognize it as Shauna another best friend of mine.

Zeke, me and Shauna were great friends in High School.

"Hey girl" I greet and hug her then we move inside as I look around there are a lot of pictures and the house is decorated quite nicely too. It shows both Shauna and Zeke's style modern yet comfy with hardwood flooring. I can clearly see by the decoration that it must be Shauna's doing.

I grin as I see the pictures of us in high school and of course there's Zeke's brother Uriah too. "So Four when did you get back here?" Shauna questions me.

"Yesterday" I reply still looking around, the house is quite big so I don't feel too claustrophobic in here. "Well Zeke how did you get manage to get a place like this? Did you rob a bank?" I ask smirking.

"Hey give me some credit man! I work at Dauntless the salary is quite amazing."

Oh. So he works there too, that means he must know Tris.

"I am still trying to imagine you at work." I remark. "Yeah Four it was weird for me too but I have grown used to it anyways our friends there are awesome. So it's quite fun." After a pause she continues,

"Hey aren't you looking for a job? And since you've earned a degree you could apply there too. We have had a recent vacancy too." Shauna says.

"Yeah Four I'll get a word in for you and call to let you know." Zeke suggests. How do I tell them that I already know this.

"Sure Zeke and thanks just don't embarrass me okay?" I remind him and decide I'll tell about it later.

Zeke then rolls his eyes and, we chat for a bit and sometime later he says, "Well I'll catch you later Four now we gotta go or Trissy will kill us. Bye have fun and I'll call you later." Shauna just hugs and leaves and I follow them out of the door and get in the car. I once again look and see them waving at me so I wave back before driving away.

I'm sure they're going to hear about me from Tris so no use.

I decide to go to the park and wait there. I am lost in my thoughts when suddenly I hear someone calling my name. "Four! Hey Four! Over here!" I hear a familiar voice which I instantly recognize as Amar's.

I turn around and jog over to him, "Hey!" I greet. He was one who trained me and he also was a great mentor for me.

"When did you get back here?" He questions. "Just yesterday" "So how are you my boy?"

"Good now that I'm back home." I say lying through my teeth because he doesn't know about what happens at my house.

Suddenly I hear my phone ring and check the caller ID- it's Zeke I'm about to cut it when I remember about the job so I shoot an apologetic look at Amar he just laughs and nods saying, "Go on take it"

"He-" Before I even say Hey Zeke cuts me off saying "Four! Guess what I got you the interview if you want the job get your ass here at 2:00." In the background I hear someone slapping him and he says, "Fine fine did you understand what I'm saying just get here at 2 and bye." He hangs up, the nerve of the guy, he is so going to have it later.

"So I'm guessing that was Zeke and… are your ears okay I mean the volume was enough for the whole park to hear." He says laughing.

I roll my eyes and reply, "Typical Zeke I have been putting up with it for years now." That just makes Amar laugh even more. Then he says,

"Well you better get going Four best of luck and don't worry you'll get the job."

"Thanks Amar." I reply as I walk away what he doesn't know is that I'm dreading seeing Tris. What will she say?

Soon enough I get a text from Zeke telling me the address. I glance at the time it's still just 11:00 so I decide to waste away the time looking at apartments and at 12:30 I go to a diner recommended by Shauna. I order grilled cheese and coke which I have to admit are quite tasty. I'll have to remember to come back here later.

Then I head home to prepare myself and thankfully Marcus isn't home so I quickly change my outfit. Before dressing though I check my wounds again, the pain has mostly dulled but the marks remain.

I decide to wear a bit more formal shirt and jeans and then grab my resume and head out. I get in the car and start driving towards the address where Zeke told me the office was.

To be honest even though Amar told me I'll get the job I'm still a bit nervous also there's the whole scenario of Tris too. I just mentally shake my head ,any job Zeke can get I can get it twice as easily the thought makes me grin and I become a little more relaxed as I drive.
