Kagome's POV
I sighed contently, Koga's strong arm around my shoulder. I gently stroked his fresh bandages; the fact that he showed me his softer side made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. There was a faint blush spread against his tan cheeks. The breeze was light, flowing through our hair. His long ponytail felt silky as it brushed against my neck. Everything felt so perfect in that moment. He smelled so good, he held me so gently… I can't remember a time where Inuyasha had made me feel like this.
"Kagome…" Koga turned his head to look at me, his gaze capturing my own and holding me there. Without knowing, I held my breath. With this mood and… with that look in his eyes… Was he going to do what I thought he was going to do?...
"What is it, Koga?" My voice was barely above a whisper. I was so nervous. I've never kissed anyone before and he was so handsome and… Good lord…
"Kagome, I…" He said quietly. God, just kiss me already! I saw him lean in a bit before we both heard a blood curdling scream in the direction of the den, shattering our romantic moment. I gasped softly and Koga's ears twitched visibly. "That mustt have been Ginta… We should get back." All I could do was nod, as I was still a little shaken up. Effortlessly, even with his injured arm, he swept me into his arms and made a dash towards the den.
When we got there Koga put me down at the entrance and I walked by his side. There was a small crowd of wolf demons fussing over one that seemed to be injured badly. I couldn't see that well because of my height.
"W-Where's Koga?..." The injured wolf demon murmured.
"Move aside!" Koga exclaimed, the crowd dispersing immediately at his command. He looked at one of the surrounding wolf demons. "Well, what are you waiting for, idiot? Get him some water!" The demon nodded and scurried away.
The injured demon took small steps towards Koga and my eyes widened at the sight of his wounds. How was he still alive? There were so many gashes on his body and blood… lots of it.
"Where are the others? Were you the only one that made it out alive?" Koga asked, his voice softer. I knew it must hurt him seeing one of his comrades so terribly wounded.
The injured demon didn't answer the question. His breathing was uneven and shallow. He shakily offered his clenched fist to Koga, who opened his palm with a questionable look in his eyes. The wounded demon gently laid an extremely bright jewel shard into the pam of Koga's hand. "I… I only managed to get one…" I saw Koga clench his teeth. So many of his comrades fighting only to obtain one jewel shard?... I would feel frustrated, too, but… Something about that jewel shard didn't feel right to me. I felt a presence, but… It was just off. I couldn't place my finger on it.
"That's okay. What about the others?" Koga asked again. Wolf demons came hurrying back, holding bandages and water.
"Koga… The others… Please go save them, I…" Before the demon could say anything else, white foam rushing out his mouth, as well as frothing around his wounds. We watched in horror as his body split in two from the gash at his waist. There were screams of panic as his two halves fell to the ground, his blood splattering on impact. Koga squeezed his eyes shut before he jammed the jewel shard into his injured arm.
"Don't worry. I'll go save them." Koga clenched his arm, the power of the jewel shard coursing through him. "Kagome, let's go save my comrades. Ginta, Hakkaku, you two look after the den until I return."
I gulped softly and nodded. This turn of events has been so crazy. Koga swept me up into his arms again before he rushed in the direction of where the wolf demons had gone to. Their scent was still strong in the air, allowing him to navigate.
After a few minutes, it was suddenly dark and we were at the gates of an ominous castle. Even though I was just a human, I could smell the massive amount of blood behind the doors. I immediately got a little sad, without seeing anything I knew that a lot of Koga's- and I guess they were mine too- comrades were dead. He leaped up onto the outer walls of the gate. I couldn't help to gasp at the sight.
In the middle of dozens of dead, bloodied wolf demons was Inuyasha.
Completely covered in their blood.
