Tris POV

It's been a week since 'that' meeting where I told everyone about the Erudite. They took it surprisingly well. Cara has now successfully gained rank in Erudite and works closely with Jeanine meaning we get insider information. Jeanine has not yet discovered anything. Although she was suspicious at first because Cara was Will's sister but Cara in a brilliant move convinced her that she and Will had a huge fight and that they aren't in contact.

It was a bit tricky but she did it. She even managed to sneak us a supply of memory serum which was given to David and Matthew and they have almost found an inoculation against it. But she couldn't get her hands on mind control ones because they are guarded really carefully and only two other people except Jeanine have any access to them.

But she did manage to get it out of Jeanine how it works. I have to say that although it's evil it was pretty genius. Jeanine had created a serum which when inserted into a person will take over control of their brain and they receive commands through an algorithm which is on the computer in Jeanine's office. The computer can also monitor their brain waves so when a person doesn't follow the orders they are either tested upon or killed. The bodies were disposed by Coulter never to be found again but it was so rare only two people had been killed so no suspected them.

On the other hand Tobias stuck by me like glue. I mean I know it was for my own protection and sure I liked having him beside me at all times. But sometimes it got really annoying too. Like right now.

It was the weekend and we were sitting at my house. I was poring over some files while noting things down on a notepad beside me. And Tobias was supposed to be doing the same thing to instead he started bugging me.

After a few minutes I finally gave up turning towards him and asking exasperatedly, "What Tobias?"

He shot me a grin and said, "Well I'm getting bored. Let's go somewhere."

"But Tobias we have to do this." I protest infact I wanted a break too but I wasn't going to let him know that.

He just took my hand in his and said softly, "Come on Tris you've been working too hard and I say you need a break otherwise you're head just might explode with the amount of work you are doing."

I sigh and give in after the puppy dog eyes. I can't resist them. They're too cute. Who knew a guy like Tobias who can be very intimidating when he wants to can give puppy dog eyes like that?

"Fine. But what are we doing?" I ask warily

His grin gets even wider and he tugs my hand after standing up himself and in a loud voice exclaims, "We're going to the park Trissy. We need some fresh air. We've been cooped here for far too long."

I actually like the idea and agree quickly which surprises him but then he shoots me a smug look which I pointedly ignore and head outside.

We get in the car and drive to the park. It looks quite pleasant. There are couples roaming around, children playing and a few sitting on the grass having picnics. I love it here I and my family used to come here and have picnics. I try not to let myself dwell too much on those memories I don't want to spoil our outing with crying.

Tobias senses my mood and puts a comforting arm around me I turn my head up to look at him. Even in a plain jeans and white shirt he looks amazing with his black hair a little longer than usual and his sharp features he looks like a God. I wonder how I landed a guy like him. And his eyes look amazing with a few specks of sky blue swimming in a deep navy blue they suit him. He catches me staring and I blush.

He smirks at me saying, "Like what you see?"

I shoot back, "Maybe." And it's his turn to blush. I gotta say he looks adorable while blushing. I'll be sure to make him blush every opportunity I get.

We walk around chatting aimlessly and looking around. When my phone ringing interrupts our talks. With a groan I pull it out of my pocket but when I see the caller ID I instantly pick it and a worried look crosses my face. Tobias looks at me confused. I wave him off.

"Hey Cara. What's the matter? Did something happen?" I ask her the worry in my voice evident.

To my utter relief she just chuckles and says, "Don't worry Tris. Nothing has happened I have some good news for you."

Relief as well as curiosity floods me and I eagerly ask, "So what good news do you have?"

She replies, "Well Jeanine is organising a conference soon and it is at Erudite offices only. I managed to convince her to have it here as she'll get to show off her office. Your phones will be taken away but don't worry I'll be there in the conference room with you. The phones are with Fernando who is a guy I trust he will come for you sometime saying you have a urgent call and I can escort you out. Then show you around."

I listen to all this with a growing respect in my head for Cara. Wow she has done so much and managed to convince Jeanine.

"Wow Cara. You're one amazing person. Thanks for that. Send me the rest of the details about it. No doubt I'll be getting an invitation but I need to prepare ahead for any kind of emergency.

Once I end the call I hurry Tobias home. He just gives me confused glances but I don't want to risk anyone hearing our conversation so I tell him to just get home and I'll tell him everything.

Once inside I relay the conversation to Tobias who isn't much happy about me going but I tell him he might be able to accompany me which makes him quite happier.

Then the both of us head towards Will's house where we meet up every once in a while to discuss everything. Everyone is already here and are discussing something when we enter. The conversation stops and we sit down quickly greeting everyone else.

Cara tells me that the others already know about me attending the seminar and to just continue ahead and then adds, "Oh and yeah you're allowed to bring a plus one so I assume Four will be going?"

The both of us nod while the rest of them give us teasing smiles which we ignore. I then continue,

"Will can you arrange for some easily hidden cameras. We need to get all the proof we can."

Will nods his head excitedly looks like he has prepared for this. The conference is in 3 days. That gives us plenty of time.

Cara also has another news, she managed to get the security passwords through Fernando who works there. She says she trusts Fernando as he himself hates working there but it is quite difficult to get out of Erudite once you are in. They can set the Mafia behind you if you let any information leak.

Will says he can hack into Erudite's security system by tomorrow which will give us enough time to make a plan in case things go wrong or we are caught. Plus we can get more proof.

Now I just have to wait until the conference.

A/N Sorry for the short chapter. It was just a filler one. I promise that the next one will be much longer than this one and more action packed. And now the story is almost over just two chapters to go... :(

The next one will be the final chapter and there will be an epilogue after that...

It's been half an year since this started and to think that it had started out just as a way to pass time during lockdown.
