Tris POV

I check the cameras on my suit and shirt underneath. I glance down at my outfit which consists of tight black trousers, a plain white shirt and a suit jacket over the shirt and small black heels which I could run in. The outfit was Christina approved which meant I was good to go.

We debated on wearing comms for communication but they were too big to conceal so it was cancelled. Everything looks in place and according to the plan, noticing the time I hurry out to meet Tobias in the lobby along with the rest of our friends.

Everyone looks tense and anxious. Tobias looks up from where he was chatting with Zeke and gives me a small smile which to be honest makes my whole day. I give him one back and feel giddy as his eyes light up. Sometimes I wonder how I got so lucky.

But before I can head there Christina pulls me to the side and starts fussing over me. I shoot him an apologetic glance, he chuckles lightly and goes back to his conversation with Zeke.

Will informs me that he has an eye on the cameras and will be able to see and alert the rest of them if anything goes wrong. Then Nita rings up to say that the car has arrived and is waiting for them.

Tobias comes up to me and takes my hand giving me a reassuring grin and I shoot one back at him taking a deep breath I face the rest of them. They all look worried and tense although I know they're trying to hide it for our sakes. And I'm grateful to them for that. We go over the plan one last time and get in the car with everyone else wishing us luck and Christina making me promise that I'll be careful. I roll my eyes but nod at her.

The car ride is practically silent except for Tobias making a few remarks and me replying. I know he is trying to lighten the mood and ease my tension but I'm still pretty nervous. What if something goes wrong? And mainly what if something happens to Tobias? I won't be able to stand it knowing I was the one who dragged him into this mess. Granted he didn't join the company on my advice but he did come here because of me and if anything happened I wouldn't be able to forgive myself.

I'm snapped out of my thoughts as we arrive at the venue. I take a moment to observe the building. It's pretty tall and made almost entirely of glass. Which is pretty scary if you ask me.

Thankfully the conference will be held on the first floor and according to Cara that's where the labs and testing rooms are. I take a deep breath and squeeze Tobias' arm before we step inside. He nods back with a determined expression and we step in together.

At the lobby a guy by the name of Fernando greets us. Ah, so this is the one she was talking about. I smile at him as recognition flickers in his eyes after seeing our invites. He takes our mobiles from us promising that he'd call if there was an emergency throwing in a wink at that.

I smile at him saying, "Sure." And add in a wink too.

Tobias grumbles at me later saying, "Why did we have to give our phones. I'd feel much better with them on me."

I chide him gently, "It's okay Tobias besides I'm here to protect you aren't I?"

He then laughs softly saying, "Of course. I don't think anyone would dare to cross you. You're pretty terrifying when you're mad."

I'm about to reply when I'm interrupted by Jeanine who is as always dressed in an impeccable royal blue business suit accompanied by a sickeningly sweet fake smile which I return just as sweetly and fakely.

"Well hello Beatrice. Pleased to see you here." She says continuing the same sickly sweet tone.

I grit my teeth slightly and force out a smile saying, "You too Jeanine. I hope everything is going well, oh and this is our newest member Four." I introduce her.

"Pleased to meet you." He says in a polite tone which would fool anyone else but me.

Jeanine shakes his hand saying, "Oh no the pleasure is all mine, now why don't you take your seats the conference is about to begin. I hope you enjoy it."

I reply, "Thank you for inviting us Jeanine. I'm sure we will enjoy it." And give force another smile before walking away.

Then Four and I head to our allocated seats which are conveniently placed neat the exit. Thank Cara for that. The conference starts soon and one by one the most prestigious lawyers from other cities come up to give their advice and speeches. It's quite interesting too so I pay close attention beside me I can see Tobias doing the same.

When suddenly a familiar voice calls out to me and Tobias saying we have an emergency call we need to receive and to follow her. I can see Jeanine eyeing us so I quickly shoot her an apologetic smile and we make our way out led by Cara.

Once out of earshot Cara starts to guide us and mentions the place we're going to. It's deeper in. We reach a door which has a sign that says 'authorized personnel only' Cara quickly scans her ID and we get inside. The door slides shut behind us.

We continue to walk down the corridor, me exchanging glances with Tobias quite often. The corridor is silent except for our footsteps and murmurs of voices drifting in from elsewhere. Finally the corridor takes a sharp turn to the right and into another hallway. This one though has many doors down it and at the end there is a huge doorway which clearly says 'Private Lab'. So this is the place.

We briskly walk towards it and I catch glances of what is happening in the other rooms. In the first few there are people who are being interrogated, their eyes are blank and glazed over as they speak. While another person is recording their answers, I suppose.

In the next 2 rooms there are a lot of people wearing white lab coats and there are various chemicals placed about the room. Some of them have gathered near a test tube and are noting something down.

Finally we reach the labs. Cara takes a quick cautious glance around before reaching for the handle. Tobias and I exchange a glance but suddenly someone clears their throat behind us and I hear a familiar sickeningly sweet voice say, "Looks like someone needs to be taught a lesson about snooping around other's places."

I look at Tobias panicked and he gives me a quick glance but before I can turn around, something hits the back of my head and my world goes black.

-Page Break-

I wake up with a groan, the back of my head throbs and I can see spots in my eyes. I blink them out and once my vision returns to normal I look around. I'm strapped to a table. There are some machines and there are some syringes beside the table along with some medical equipment.

There's also a monitor nearby. I can hear voices in the corridor outside coming near so I quickly shut my eyes pretending to be unconscious. I can hear them speak, one of them is Jeanine and the other…

Oh Gods no. It's Caleb. I feel anger and shock course through my veins. I never thought Caleb would support something like this but judging by the things Jeanine is saying to him, it looks like he was a valuable part of this. I can feel tears prick the corner of my eyes but I force them back. I won't shed any more tears on him.

The voices come closer and closer finally stopping beside my bed. Jeanine pauses for a second before saying.

"She's not awake yet. Do you think she'll remember what happened? Her partner certainly did not and we gave her a higher dose of memory serum. She should wake up soon. Now what shall we do with little miss snoopy?" Jeanine cackles.

Wait. Tobias he's my partner. He doesn't remember? I don't think so or he must be pretending. Yes that's it that was our backup if we are given memory serum we pretend like we don't remember even if we do. I wonder where he is. I'll have to get out myself first before anything.

I decide to stop my acting and wake up. I groan turning my head around and squinting as Jeanine's face comes into my view. Caleb must be somewhere further. Jeanine then says, "So finally the sleeping beauty wakes. How good."

I grit my teeth at her and say, "What's happening? Why am I here? What are you doing? How did I even come here?"

She smiles then says, "Oh good. You don't remember anything. That's great. Now let me answer your questions. You were being a bad girl snooping around my place like that and then I caught you. So let's now decide the punishment for you. Hmm…how about a little dose of the fear serum."

I blanch that doesn't sound good. I decide to stall her asking a few questions of my own.

"Wait. I want to know what you are doing. What's the fear serum? And why are you even doing this thing injecting people with serums? That's cruel. And where is Four?" I ask everything in one breath. I hope she answers.

Thankfully she does, "You see fear serum shows you your literal fears like a hallucination, I suppose. Next one I won't answer it isn't any of your business but the last one. Ah, your dear friend is in the room just next to yours. But I won't say what they're doing to him. Now it's your time. Please do tell me how experiencing your fear feels Miss Prior.

Caleb please inject the serum."

Caleb steps forward hesitantly. He hasn't changed much. Although his hair is much shorter than before and he has deep bags under his eyes and looks like he has lost a lot of weight. He opens his mouth to say something but I interrupt before he can and say venom dripping from my voice, "Save your breath. I don't want to hear a thing you say."

He looks at me hurt I gaze back emotionlessly behind me I hear Jeanine say, "Oh what a touching reunion."

I snap my head towards her and spit out, "Shut up you bitch just do whatever it is quickly. I can't stand your presence any longer."

Her expression suddenly mirrors mine. Stone cold and hard unflinching gaze. She orders Caleb to proceed in a clipped tone before wishing me luck in a flat voice.

*Skipping the hallucination because you all know what happens*

I wake up gasping for breath and tears prickling the corner of my eyes which I blink back. My throat feels raw from all the screaming. Beside me I can see Jeanine staring at the monitor in shock.

She turns towards me sputtering, "H—how did you get out of that so-so quickly?" Caleb is also looking at me shocked.

Jeanine suddenly turns around and marches out of the room ordering Caleb to follow saying, "I will find the fault. You won't be spared."

I snort Yeah right like I'm going to let you.

I glance around. Looks like she has stationed a guard outside. My hands are tied to the back and I hope they did not remove the switchblade from my back pocket.

I carefully move my hand inch by inch and breath a sigh of relief when I find the blade. I quickly dig it out and start cutting the ties binding my hands. After a few moments they come off and I sigh in relief. Thankfully they did not dig in my skin.

Then I work on freeing my legs. Once that is done I get up and look around for some kind of weapon. I can see a knife which I can use. Jeanine is an idiot really keeping a knife which can be reached easily.

I grab it and slowly tip toe towards the door and quietly open it. The guard turns to see what happened but before he can say anything I slam the blade of the knife forcefully into his head disorienting him.

Then aim a kick towards his groin which makes him double over and I swiftly kick the back of his head making him go unconscious. He then crumples to the floor. I mentally fist pump but my triumph doesn't last long as I remember Tobias. What might they have done to him? I quickly make my way out looking around for any more guards. Thankfully I see none until I enter what looks like the room Tobias is kept in. It's similar to mine except Caleb is there controlling something on the monitor his back turned towards me. I silently creep up on him and place a knife to his throat.

He freezes automatically and I whisper in his ear as intimidatingly as I can, "Shut this down and wake him up. You have no other choice."

He gulps like the coward he is and says in a small voice, "Bea. It's me your brother. You wouldn't do that to me. What would our parents think of you Bea?"

I snarl, he should not have brought up mom and dad, "I think they'd be rather proud of me and disappointed in you Caleb. Showing this cruelty. Now free him otherwise…" I trail off and to emphasize my point press the knife closer to his throat.

He's sweating now but does as I ask and once he says done. I quickly knee him in the back and once again slam the blade of the knife on the back of his head. Causing him to go unconscious. I don't know how much time I have so I quickly start cutting Tobias free. Thankfully he wakes up getting his bearings quickly.

He looks around at the crumpled form of Caleb and the knife in my hands and his eyes widen. I shake my head at him saying, "No. I didn't stab him or anyone just hit him so he went unconscious. Now we have to move quickly before anyone realizes that we have escaped."

He nods his head and I can see he has a lot of questions but thankfully he decides to ask later. He grabs a fallen piece of pipe as a weapon. I laugh at him but follow outside. The path looks clear. We move ahead slowly when suddenly the door to our right opens and as we both raise our respective weapons Cara tumbles out. She sees us and raises her hands as a sign of peace.

We lower our weapons and Cara says she escaped too and we need to get out soon. We quickly agree and Cara leads us out saying that she knows the way. We emerge out into the main hallway and are almost out when suddenly someone plunges an injection in my neck. Out of the corner of my eyes I can see the same happen to Cara and Tobias too.

I think it's the memory serum but this time it doesn't knock us out. Then Cara looks around confused. I guess she is affected by the serum. I quickly exchange a glance with Tobias and to my relief he looks like he remembers too. We have a quick conversation with our eyes deciding it's best to act like Cara.

Then Cara asks, "I forgot what we were doing here. Weird."

Tobias and I agree when Jeanine speaks up saying, "Oh you just got lost on your way out. Come on follow me. I'll show you the way. Some of your friends are waiting for you after all. Miss Huges can have her leave too."

Our friends? What are they doing here? After looking at Tobias he looks just as confused as me. Shrugging we follow them out and see Christina and Zeke frantically talking to the receptionist when they hear us and turn around. Relief obvious in their faces. We quickly bid a goodbye to Jeanine throwing in fake smiles before hurrying out of there.

We collapse into the car all except Cara who is driving her own car. As we drive Chris and Ezi start asking what happened. We recount the whole thing and as the story goes on Chris and Ezi both start getting angry. At one point Chris even yells, "I'm going to murder that bitch!"

I speak calmly, "Chris cool down. We'll murder her together at the court."

She cools down a bit saying, "Alright. But I'm making the final move."

We head back to the office and recount everything to the others who immediately note everything down and start with the offences and proofs required. Tobias and I head home as the day was quite a draining one. It's silent between us and once we reach his apartment we quickly change and collapse into the bed. Too tired to even eat.

As I cuddle up into Tobias' side he whispers, "I realized that I never did thank you for saving me. So thank you. But isn't it the guy who's supposed to save the girl?"

I snort and say, "You're welcome but let me inform you I'm not like the most girls. I can save my skin as well as yours Tobias."

He just nods and says, "That's true I don't mind that as long as you don't get hurt. Plus you looked totally badass while doing it so that was just a bonus."

I blush and instead of replying I murmur, "Good night Tobias."

I'm already asleep but I hear him say, " Night Tris" And feel a pair of soft lips press against my forehead before I finally drift off.
