It felt so good to be home.
I sighed as I walked up the steps to the house, "My batteries need a huge recharge."
Mio rolled her eyes, "Then go take a nap."
We walked in and the first thing that hit out ears was the sound of crying.
We looked at each other before running into the living room. Our father sat on the floor, our picture in front of him, as he sobbed.
"Dad!" My heart beat faster, "What's wrong?"
He looked up, surprise on his face, "My babies! You're home! I thought something terrible had happened to you!"
Mio raised her brow, "Like what?"
He stood, wiping the tears from his face, "I don't know, like you'd been taken from me!"
Mio rolled her eyes, "I swear, dad, you're so dramatic. We we're just at a hangout."
His brow immediately went up in curiosity, "You hung out? With other people?"
She nodded.
He looked at me, "Willingly?"
I shrugged, "Reluctantly."
He wrapped his arm around me, "Are my sunshine's alright? Did you have a good time? We're the other kids nice to you?"
Mio shook her head, "We're not baby's dad, you don't have to be worried about that."
He shrugged, "You're my babies', I will always worry."
She sighed, "I'm going to my room, you're exhausting."
He looked at me, slightly pouting, "You still love me, right?"
I nodded, "Of course, papa."
He kissed my forehead before heading to the kitchen, "I'll be making dinner if you need me, darling."
I sighed and walked down the hall. I couldn't even think about eating right now. I feel like a flashlight that's dimming because of a lack of power.
I laid out in bed and sighed, my pillows, how I have missed you.
I was out before I even knew my eyes were getting heavy.
I slept through the night and the brightness of the the morning sun was the only thing that brought me out of the darkness.
"Damn, is sleepy beauty finally coming out of her slumber?"
I let out a big yawn and nodded, "See what happens when you make me socialize."
She rolled her eyes, "Oh, come on, Maki, you know you had a good time."
I shrugged as I sat up, "I don't know. I think I would've had more fun if I hadn't been so shy."
Mio nodded, "I understand, it'll happen, you'll eventually, come out of your shell."
I ran my fingers through my hair and sighed, "But when? And how was it so easy for you?"
"Simple," She shrugged, "I don't care about what others think."
I nodded, "Okay… how don't you care?"
She raised her brow at me, "Why are you asking?"
I let my head fall in my hands, "I feel so out of my element around large groups and I just wanna crawl under a rock and I don't know how to not feel like that."
She sighed and shook her head, "It's not something I can really describe to you and you can do it yourself. I just don't care. If people like me, awesome, if not, even better… I guess."
Before I could say anything, her phone rang.
I gave her a curious look as she dug through her pocket for her phone, "Dad?"
She shrugged and shook her head, "No, I gave Ochako my number."
I was semi shocked. I think we're assimilating into the class.
She walked back into her room as she chatted.
I sighed and pulled myself up.
I grabbed a quick shower before going to the kitchen and grabbing an apple.
"Okay, let me ask her and I'll text you." Mio said as she walked into the kitchen, fully dressed.
I munched on my apple as I watched her hang up, "Ask who what?"
She sighed as she grabbed a water bottle from the fridge, sipping, "Ochako wanted to know if we wanted to meet them at the roller rink. Everyone is going."
I nodded, stealing her bottle, "Okay… who is we?"
She shrugged, "I'm assuming everyone in the class."
I felt my heart speed up.
She put her hand on mine, "It's okay. Don't think about what could happen or overthink things. Just jump in."
I sighed and nodded, "Yeah, I'll go."
She smiled, "I'll text Ochako, get ready."
I sighed and tossed my apple.
I thought about changing but then I thought I look fine.
My jeans and Naruto shirt are fine. I look fine, casual.
I pulled on my shoes and sighed as I went to find Mio.
She stood by the door, sunglasses on, ready to go, "Katsuki is picking us up. Apparently, the roller rink is too far to walk."
I was shocked, "They let Bakugo have a license?"
She nodded, "I was surprised too."
There was a honk a few minutes later and I followed Mio out.
Mio shook her head as we got in, "Why am I not surprised you drive a charger?"
He glared, "I don't have to give you a ride."
Mio shrugged, "But then you'd have to deal with Ochako nagging you."
He rolled his eyes and focused on the road.
I sat in the back, picking at a random thread beside me. That feeling of jealousy was back. She talks to him like they've been friends for a while and it's not awkward for her.
I want that.
When we got to the rink, Mio got us both a pair of skates and we sat with everyone.
Ochako smiled, "I'm so glad you guys came out to join us."
Mio shrugged, "We haven't skated in years. Hopefully, we don't end up on our asses."
Denki threw his arms over our shoulders, "Oh, don't worry about it! I'll catch ya!"
My cheeks got red and my heart started to race. I took a deep breath, I can smell the sunshine after the rain. Is that him? Is that a cologne? Do they even make a cologne that smells like that?
I only know of my dads' cologne. It smells like an open fire. He's been wearing the same one since he and my mom started dating. It's her favorite.
Denki pulled away, going to talk to Kirishima, allowing me to finally breathe.
Mio nudged me, "You doing okay?"
I nodded, "I'm just gonna go get some water."
She raised her brow as I stood, "Want me to come with you?"
I shook my head and made my way to the concession stand.
I drank my water and took a seat.
"Everything okay?"
I jumped, hearing Tokoyami speak next to me, "I didn't see you there."
He shrugged, "I haven't been here long."
I sighed, sipping my water, "I'm okay. Just… overwhelmed."
"Why is that?"
I shrugged, "I'm not used to being in large groups and sometimes I just need a break."
He nodded, "That makes sense. I completely understand."
I sighed, "What are you doing over here?"
He shrugged, "I don't roller skate but Ochako wouldn't stop calling until I said yes."
I couldn't help but smile, "I guess she's a persistent one."
He nodded.
I looked at the group. They were laughing and having a good time.
"What's wrong?" Tokoyami asked.
I shook my head, "I am so jealous that Mio can fit in so easily. I can't. I get too anxious and my social battery drains faster than a dollar store battery."
He chuckled at my joke, "I understand that. I wasn't very social before joining our class. When I was little I was on my own more than with people. It's just going to take some time. You'll eventually be okay once you're comfortable with them."
I sighed, "Mio said the same thing, basically."
He nodded, "It's true. It took me a while. You'll get there."
I shook my head.
"It must be harder, having a crush on Denki though."
My jaw dropped, "I do not have a crush on him."
Tokoyami rolled his dark eyes, "Oh, please, I can see it. I do a lot of observing. I can see it."
I felt my face become red hot.
He nudged me, "It's okay, I won't say anything and you don't make it completely obvious so he won't find out."
I sighed and laid my head on the counter, "What am I going to do?"
He shrugged, "Try not to think about it?"
I rolled my eyes, "Easier said than done."
He nodded, "You have a point there."
I groaned, "Can I just sit here with you?"
He smirked, "I plan on joining everyone by the rink soon but you can sit there with me if your sister doesn't make you skate… which I'm assuming she plans to."
I nodded.
He stood, grabbing his water bottle, "Come. Let's get this done and over with."
I sighed and stood, "I don't know if I'm ready."
He shrugged, "You'll be fine."
When we made our way back to everyone, they were laughing because they had somehow managed to convince Bakugo to skate with them.
I couldn't hold my laughter in when I saw the skates he wore.
Apparently, the only pair of skates they had that would fit him are covered in teddy bear stickers.
Mio acted as though she was polishing her nails, "Pretty great, right?"
I shook my head, "Did you do this?"
She nodded, "You bet."
Tokoyami shook his head, "I swear, you have guts. If you were Mineta, Bakugo would kill you."
She smiled, "I like to dance close to the flame, and if I get burned, oh well."
Bakugo didn't look happy as he made his way to the rink, "I'll show all of you background characters that I am way better than you! Especially, you Deku!"
I watched him skate around the rink like he was running laps.
If I'm honest, just watching him is making me tired.
Mio laughed before grabbing my arm, dragging me to the rink, "Come on, let's roll around, get the hang of it again."
When we started skating I tried to keep it slow. I didn't feel too steady. Mio seemed to be just as good as when we were little. She was always better with roller skates.
As we skated I saw Mineta flirting with Momo, in irritation, she shoves him away and right into Mio and me, pushing me back.
I felt myself lose balance and I felt my skates come out from under me.
"Whoa! I gotcha!"
I clashed with someone and tumbled down, landing on my butt, hard.
I heard a loud laugh from the person who attempted to catch me, "Oh man, I tried to be a hero but I ended up on my butt too!"
The smell of sunshine tickled my nose, my heart speeding up.
I looked up to the amber eyes that glowed down on me, stopping my heart.
I felt his hand on my back, "Are you okay, Maki?"
I nodded. It's all I could manage to do.
He hugged me, "Good! I at least managed to dull the impact!"
He stood and pulled me up with him, lifting me effortlessly, "Alright, let's get you back on your feet! Are you sure you're okay?"
I nodded again, the only thing I can do.
Mio wrapped an arm around me, "Maki, you okay? I'll kill that grape head."
I watched as Denki chased after Kirishima, "I'm fine. I need a break."
She nodded, "Yeah, let's get you water."
I sat next to Tokoyami as Mio grabbed me fresh water.
He smirked, "Let me guess, your battery exploded in that little crash?"
I nodded, sipping my water.
He tried to catch me… then he hugged me.
He hugged me…
Oh god.
