I let go of Peeta and run. I run towards Gale who is now walking away from me. He has reached the square when I catch up to him.
"Gale I can explain," I say pleadingly.
"Explain what Katniss?" he says. "You kissed Peeta and it wasn't for the cameras. I thought you loved me Katniss."
"Gale, we are best friends. We have always been best friends."
"Well I thought it was more," he says.
"Gale I love Peeta," I say.
He turns around and leaves me standing in the middle of the square alone. I don't follow him. I've lost my best friend.
I turn and leave the square and head back to Victor's Village. There, Peeta is waiting for me on my front door step.
"Katniss is everything ok?" he asks.
"No. I don't think Gale is my friend anymore," I answer.
"Why?" he says.
"I chose you."
He seemed surprised with my answer. I guess he didn't know that Gale had feelings for me. All I can do is reach out and hug him and not let go. I stand there holding on to him until he pulls back.
"What's wrong," I ask.
"Nothing," he says. He leans in and kisses me on the lips. I kiss back and hold on to him. Nothing can take him away from me. I won't let it.
"Katniss?," he says as he pulls away.
"Yes Peeta?"
"Will you be my girlfriend?"
My eyes tear up as I choke out my answer.
"Yes Peeta. Yes."
