I pulled in for another kiss and as our lips touch the front door of my house opens and Prim is standing in the doorway.

"Oh I'm sorry," she says as she tries to shut the door.

"No you're ok Prim, I have to go home for dinner anyway and we need a witness." Peeta says.

"What do you mean? A witness?" I ask Peeta.

"Someone to see that we are together," he answers as he kisses me on the cheek."I'll see you tomorrow Katniss."

"I love you," I say as he walks away, heading for his house.

"I love you too," he says back.

I walk through the open door where Prim is standing on the other side. She looks so happy. Ever since the Games she always tells me that I would end up with Peeta.

Prim had told mom before I had the chance to sit down for dinner. She was thrilled.

The next day Peeta and I walked down to the square together hand in hand. We were only halfway there when I heard the moans and groans of someone. Someone familiar. We took off running but I stopped when I saw someone chained to a post. A whipping post. I started walking fast, Peeta alongside me, until I saw who it was, then I started running. I saw my best friend chained to a post being whipped with a turkey nailed above him.

It took all my strength to push past the people watching the whipping of Gale. When I finally broke through I took off running until I was between the Peacekeeper and Gale.

"Stop!" I yelled.

The Peacekeeper swung his whip at me and hit me right above my eye. This was not Cray, our head Peacekeeper. This was a new person.

As I regain my balance from the hit I see the Peacekeeper get ready to hit me again when Haymitch steps in.

"You don't want to do that," Haymitch says.

"Why not? She interfered with a whipping!" he says back.

"Don't you recognize her? Katniss Everdeen? The darling of the Capitol? You've already messed up her face which will push back the wedding. What do you think will happen if you mess her up even more?" Haymitch says.

"I don't care who she is. She needs to be punished!"

Just them Peeta steps in.

"Get away from my fiance!" he says. "Don't touch her!"

"Just let us all go, including the boy," he says as he points at Gale, "and we won't give anymore trouble." Haymitch pleads.

"Fine. Go! If she ever does something like this again, it is the firing squad. I don't care who she is," he says as he walks away.

We unhook Gale who is unconscious and take him back to my house for my mom to work on him. I don't even stay in the house. I go with Peeta back to his house.
