We hung out for the next three hours! I was so grateful when Mio said it was time to go home. I need a nap… or a charger.
I haven't quite recovered from my crash earlier. My heart is still going a mile a minute.
Bakugo drove us home and it was a quiet ride, light rock music filling the silence.
When we made it into the house, I felt like I could breathe again as I threw myself down on the couch.
Mio sat next to me, "So, how do you feel?"
I sighed, "Better than yesterday."
She smiled, "I'd say that's progress especially since you were hugged by he who shall not be named."
I rolled my eyes, "He's not Voldemort."
She shrugged, "I don't know, with how you react sometimes, I never know."
I sighed, "I can't believe he hugged me. I know it doesn't mean anything to him… but still."
She nudged me, "So, tell me, does he smell good or does he needs a shower?"
I sighed and couldn't help but think about how good he smelled. It's honestly addicting. But I don't think I'm going to tell her that.
She nodded, "Yeah, he smells good. I mean, I think even if he smelled like a garbage yard you'd still like it. Love blinds all senses."
I rolled my eyes, "I'm not in love." I shook my head, but I know I was blushing.
"Darlings!" We heard dad shout as he walked in, "I'm home! I've missed you all, I hope you've missed me and even if you haven't, I love you all the same!"
Mio rolled her eyes as I smiled, "Hi, daddy."
He bowed as he set his briefcase down, "Court ended early so I thought I'd come home and take my girls for a lovely meal. We haven't gone out in quite some time."
We exchanged a glance before shrugging and standing, "What are you in the mood for?"
He tapped his chin, "Hmm, how about some American food?"
I smiled, "Fries!"
Mio shook her head, "Any excuse for a potato."
I shrugged with a pout, "They're a delicacy."
She rolled her eyes and followed dad to the car, "They are not. They are common food."
Our dad smiled, "Awe, my girls getting along."
We raised our brow, "This is getting along?"
He nodded, "For you two it is."
We spent a while out, it was honestly a nice time. We haven't spent much time out with dad. He's a detective and he's been quite busy. I missed him.
When we got back home, dad received a call before we could even get through the front door.
He sighed and hugged us, "Oh, my darlings, yet another night away from you, whatever will I do?"
Mio rolled her eyes as she pulled away, "How much longer are you going to be pulling overtime?"
He shrugged, grabbing his briefcase, "I'm not sure but I have to do it to keep a roof over your guys' heads."
Mio sighed, "Dad, you're a full-time lead detective, you make enough money on bare minimum checks to cover everything, not to mention moms' money."
He frowned, "You can't let me be dramatic?"
I shook my head, "You know she can't. She's a bubble buster."
She smiled, "You know it!"
He sighed and gave us one last hug, "I'll be back before you girls wake up, I promise."
I plopped down on the couch and flipped on the TV, "I hate that he works so much."
She nodded as she sat beside me, "I know, me too, but who else is going to keep the bad guys off the streets."
I sighed, "I know."
Mio took the remote from me, choosing some rerun of an old anime to throw on.
We relaxed and before we knew it, we were both knocked out.
I woke up the next morning, in my own bed. I smiled. Dad came home.
When I got up, breakfast was made and dad sat at the table, sipping his coffee and looking through the paper.
He smiled, "Good morning my ray of sunshine! It's such a beautiful day, am I right?"
I shrugged and yawn, "It's a little early."
He took a bite of his rice, "Early bird catches the worm my love."
I sighed and sat down, shoving an omelet on to my plate, "Are you off today?"
He nodded, "Sure am! I think I'll do the grocery run, you and sister shouldn't be the only ones to do it. I think I'll have your sister make the list when she wakes up."
"You better be feeding me before making me do anything." Mio said, the sleepiness still in her voice.
He smiled and loaded an omelet on a plate for her, "With extra pork, as you like it."
She bowed in thanks and dug in.
Dad looked like he was going to cry, "I love you girls so much. My pride and joys, the best parts of your mother and me."
Mio sighed and laid her head on the table, "Isn't it a little early for this?"
He shook his mug in her direction, "Not at all. I've already had my coffee. I'm alive and awake."
She took his mug from him, sipping it, "We should really switch you to green tea. It's better for you."
I couldn't help but laugh as his face fell, "Why would you do such a thing? I love my coffee. I have it flown in from the states."
I nodded, "Exactly, it's an addiction. Addiction is not healthy dad."
He took his mug back, "It makes me happy, happy equals healthy."
Mio raised her brow, "That's not how it works."
He sighed and stood, "I'm going to clean up before I go to the grocery store. I need to get away from all of this negativity. It's not good for the soul."
"Order one of those stupid Chicken Soup for the Souls books the Americans love then!" Mio shouted as he disappeared down the hallway.
"Maybe I will!" He shouted back, "We'll read it as a family!"
Mio shook her head, "That man, I swear. How did we come from him?"
I shrugged, dumping my dishes in the sink, "Who knows but at least there isn't a single dull moment in this family."
I sighed and returned to my room, I grabbed the book from my bag and threw myself on my bed. Today seems like a good day to catch up on some reading.
This book is a particularly good one, it's about a girl who writes love letters every time she likes a guy and they somehow get out and I'm just at the part where her nemesis's boyfriend is confronting her about his letter.
It's so cheesy but so good. Perfect midday read.
"Hey," Mio nudged me as she laid beside me, "I haven't finished the history report Aizawa assigned last week. It's due tomorrow."
I closed my book, "I finished that a few nights ago."
Her jaw dropped, "How?"
I shrugged, "You know my philosophy, 'Get it done now so you have time to read.' I've gone by that since we were little. Works for chores as well."
She groaned, "I don't live by that. If it seems like it's going to be a drag, I procrastinate."
I nodded, "Clearly."
She sighed and hid her face in a pillow, "I don't suppose I could just copy you."
I shook my head, "Sorry, do your own work."
She glared, "What the point in having a twin. We aren't even identical so we can't switch places."
I opened my book back up, "Get to work."
It was a nice day. I could hear dad hum as he did paperwork in the living room, Mio complained relentlessly as she did her work, and I got to enjoy and finish my book.
I sighed as I put it on the shelf, "Another one done."
Mio shut her textbook, "Good one?"
I nodded, "Although, there's a second one that I don't have yet."
She smiled, "It sounds like we need to make a trip to the bookstore."
I nodded, "Yeah, but it's too late today."
She shrugged, "In the morning then, before class."
I felt excitement in my heart, "Are you sure?! It means getting up a little earlier."
She nodded, "Yeah, why not. It means I can get one of those Sailor Moon mystery bags. I'm still missing Tuxedo Mask, Jupiter, Mars, and Luna."
I had to hold in my squeal, I might even be able to start the book before class!
After dinner, we all went to bed rather early, especially Mio, she doesn't like to lose a second of beauty rest.
The next morning, dad was gone before the alarm even went off. He must've been called on a case.
I walked into Mio's room. Her alarm was blaring but it didn't seem to faze her.
I smiled, "Yeah, Bakugo! This is her in her natural state!"
She shot up, hair sticking up wildly, stuck to her face, "What? Get out of here!"
Her eyes focused on me and she glared, "That was a dirty trick. I'm getting up early for you and you pull this? You're a raging dick."
I shrugged, "It was entertaining though."
She sighed as she pulled her comforter off and stood, "I need a shower."
I left her to get ready, knowing she'll calm down after her shower.
The walk to the bookstore was quiet. She wasn't fully awake yet.
I nudged her, "Maybe we can get some tea from the shop in the bookstore."
She nodded, "If the line isn't as long as the list of women Mineta has harassed."
I shrugged, "I don't think shop lines ever get that long. They'd wrap around the city."
I saw her smirk, which is almost a smile, so, it's an improvement.
I know she's in this mood more so because of the way I chose to wake her rather than the time in which I woke her but it's okay… it was worth it.
The first thing we did was grab a team to sip on while we looked.
Mio headed straight for novelty while I made my way to the young adult section.
As I browsed, I found more than one book I needed… yes, needed.
I piled some in my arms and after a minute of looking, I finally found book two to the one I finished last night.
I reached out for it but I almost lost the stack I was holding.
I couldn't help but curse, "Shit. What am I going to do?"
"Do I spot a damsel in distress that I happen to know?"
That voice made me freeze, sending shivers down my back.
"Can I be of some assistance?"
I didn't want to look at him. I know it'll make me blush.
"Uhh, I'm sorry, have I said something wrong?"
I heard the tone in his voice shift. It went from playful to concerned.
I heard him sigh, "Uh, I'm sorry I bothered you. I'll go."
I felt a pit of guilt in my stomach, "Wait!"
My heart stopped, "I'm sorry, I don't mean to be rude. You didn't bother me, you just surprised me."
I channeled Mio, don't care what people think, just do.
I got up the guts to look at him. His amber eyes went from somber to bright again.
He took a step closer, "Sorry about that! I just saw you in need and thought I'd offer my services."
I took a deep breath, trying to calm the butterflies, "Thank you."
He nodded, "Which do ya need?"
I pointed, "That one, you can just throw it on my stack."
He nodded, grabbing the book and put it at the top, right in line with my nose. I heard him laugh, "Actually, how about this?"
I went to ask what he meant but then he took the books from me, "There ya go! Now you have more room! Load 'em up!"
I couldn't help but blush, "You don't have to do that."
He shrugged, "I lost Kirishima the second I walked through the door so I don't mind. I can hang with you."
I chewed on my lip but nodded. I have no reason to say no.
He peaked at the side of my stack, "So, why are you getting so many books?"
I shrugged, "I like to read."
He laughed, "Clearly."
"Hey, Maki, they have a whole unopened box of mystery bags for Sailor Moon and there's ten in a box and I found a new one, Death Note, should I get both boxes or wait on the Death Note ones?"
She walked up, focused on the items in her hands.
"Whoa! I love those things!" Denki smiled brighter.
She looked up confused then started to laugh, "What's… uh, what's going on here?"
Denki shrugged, "I found her struggling and decided today was my day to be a hero."
I looked away, blushing more intensely.
She shook her head and sighed, "I see you've picked out quite a few books. Where exactly do you plan on leaving those at school? They won't fit in your locker and there's no time to drop them off."
My jaw dropped, she's right.
I couldn't help but frown, "I don't know, but, if I don't get them now, they might not be here next time."
She rolled her eyes, "You know they will be."
I shrugged, "But, what if they aren't."
Denki shrugged, "You can keep them in my car."
My heart stopped, "Are you sure?"
He nodded, "Yeah, I drove today, so it won't be a problem."
Mio shrugged, "Talk about a hero."
He shot us a cheesy grin, "I can give you guys a ride home too so you don't have to carry them!"
I couldn't help but smile as the butterflies got louder, "Thank you, Denki, you don't have to do this."
He shrugged, "I don't mind. Besides, I don't think I'm driving Kirishima anymore, he's a lost cause."
I couldn't help but laugh.
I never thought I'd laugh around him, let alone talk and get a ride from him.
I think my heart is going to burst.
