Stephen Almen was just a typical teen in America. He, however, tended to be athletic, musically cultured and, was (as others would say) smart.
Which may be the reason why he had gotten a request to transfer to the Otonokizaka school, in Japan.
Being an anime weeb as well, he rushed back home, carrying the letter like a precious baby, and flung open his front door.
"Guys!' He screamed, the second the veil was uncovered, "Look at this!" In the room were his parents, Thomas and Elaine Almen. His father, working on his photography assignment, looked up, partially annoyed.
"What is it dear?" His mother asked, setting aside her oven mitt. She had gotten out of her accounting job early today, meaning that she could have more time to prepare dinner, and hopefully read her fanfictions. It didn't matter though, she stayed up to read them.
He enthusiastically rushed over to his mother, who took the paper. Once skimming through it, she said, "Wow, that's a big accomplishment Steve! Honey, look at this!" She thrust herself towards the dark - brown couch in the living room.
She moved behind the seat, holding it in front of his face so he could read.
"You know I can't see without my glasses," He said, grabbing his clear, safety - looking glasses. He grabbed the letter and read it carefully, but skeptically.
"This doesn't make any sense, why would a school from another country invite him in the middle of our first semester?"
"Well, it could be anything," His mother added, taking his side again. "He has become engrossed in learning Japanese."
"Konnichiwa." Stephen said, factually.
"See?"
"Or, it could be his straight A's."
He hastily got out his last report card from his backpack, showing all 'A's on the section reading 'Grades.' All of which, his classes showed more than '100%.'
"It could be an invitation to join their band, he is very talented at music." He detached his stick bag from a cable leading to his backpack. He removed a pair of sticks and began playing a complex piece, jamming on another sofa.
"Well, possibly." His father grumbled. He was proud whenever he wasn't skeptical of something.
"How much will it cost?" Stephen asked.
There was a pause, while his father read it over again, "Nothing, they said our trip would be paid for. Not that that's a problem, but we could afford it." True, his family wasn't rich, but they certainly weren't poor either.
A moment passed while his father scrunched up his face. Finally, the muscles relaxed as he said, "Dear, Stephen, I approve. We're going to Japan!" He made up his mind just like that?
"Hold on," his wife now said, "We can't just say that and expect to be ready just out of the blue!"
"Yeah," Stephen added, "we have to consult my school, then their school, then we have to get passports to Japan and tell Alicia about it."
"Alicia?" His father said.
"That girl he's dating." His mother said.
"Okay, don't say it like that."
"Oh, he's right. We would have to tell Alicia and Paige." Paige is his younger sister - younger by only a year, she adds.
"Well, seems like a lot of work." His mother said.
"Plus, we would be leaving behind California." His father now sounded saddened.
"And Selma." The town they're in.
There was a moment of silence, which Stephen broke by saying, "What if we get a student exchange program? But, you know, one way?"
They looked up at him.
"Yeah . . . that could work!" His parents looked at each other with hopeful eyes. "We would never leave or sell our precious memory - filled home, and you can go on to live a beautiful life!"
. . .
"Alright, lets do it!"
The next day, while his parents went to personally return the letter, Stephen searched for his 'girlfriend they say nowadays.
She'll understand. I mean, hot Japanese girls are only in anime . . . right?
Whew! Glad to get this out of my head.
I would also like to thank the following authors: TheNoca, and GoopyLeHeckingGrande for my inspiration.
Still, I will try to post at least once a week. If I don't, sue me.
By the way, this character is partially based off me. I'm not sure how, but he is.
Anyways!
Hope you all liked the first chapter, if not - I'm sorry for my insolence.
Until next time! Mate ne!
