Chapter Four – Manga Adventures

Natsuki plumped down in her chair.

It was twenty minutes till class.

She hung her backpack on the back of her seat; reaching inside, she retrieved a book – looking object with the words Parfait Girls on the top, written in italicized cursive writing.

Sitting towards the back of the class, she began reading, alone.

She soon became comfortable enough that she didn't hear the five – minute bell, warning students of five minutes till class.

A teacher walked in, holding a briefcase and wearing glasses.

Upon noticing Natsuki, he said, while preparing his podium for the daily topic, "Natsuki, how many times to I have to tell you? Put that away, this is math class, not literature.

A couple of students laughed, Natsuki blushed with embarrassment, quickly putting away the book.

"I – I'm sorry." She reluctantly mumbled, not wanting any attention to be drawn to herself. But, to her relief, the students' giggles died down once the teacher gave a strict, and firm, cough into his hand.

The class continued without any more interruptions, thankfully, the others had forgotten about Natsuki's caused scene at the beginning.

But the thing that caught her eye was to her left: Yuri was looking pretty battered, not physically but mentally.

Natsuki and Yuri had been in the same classes for a while, they both always sat in the back, neither really paid attention to the lessons and both didn't want any unnecessary acknowledgment.

Figuring she should do something, Natsuki leaned over once she was sure the teacher had his back turned.

"Hey Yuri, are you still here?" She whispered. Yuri jolted out of her trance, as she turned to her.

"O – oh, Natsuki, how are you?" Yuri muttered that last part.

"Is something wrong? You don't look that comfortable."

"Well, this is math class." Yuri joked, trying to change the subject. Natsuki didn't want to push her, she knew Yuri was just like her, she would have to open up to her instead.

"Well, I guess so, sorry." She gave up on asking quickly.

". . ."

". . ."

". . . Well actually," Natsuki hurriedly stopped what she was doing, so much so, she slammed her shin into the metal bar that was placed under the desk, creating a ding as it made contact.

A single tear was shed as she held in her pain and anger to muster the words, "Y – yes?"

"Y – you know Monika, right?"

"Yeah . . . everyone knows . . . Monika," She said in between sniffles, "Why?"

"Well, she asked me to join her club."

"Y – you mean the Debate Club?"

"N - no, s - she's quit that, the l - Literature Club, which is run by her."

"Oh."

". . . You know, I r - really d - don't want to d - do this, but please, join the c - club with me!" Yuri said through gritted teeth, "Please, I d - don't want to be alone with m - Monika. You and I are s - similar, we can be there to help e - each other!"

". . . I don't know Yuri, I mean, we've rarely talked, this is the first time we've held a conversation that's actually gotten us somewhere in life and – I – I just don't know."

". . . I understand." Yuri said that sorrowfully, trying to play the 'guilty trick.'

Not wanting to make another scene, Natsuki blurted out, "W – well, jeez! If you're going to cry, then I'll join the stupid club!"

"Natsuki!" The teacher shouted, "quiet down, and finish your linear equations."

"Yes sir." She trailed off.

Yuri smiled at her, while Natsuki glared back.

Why do I do this to myself? Why do even care?

Author's Note:

Hello, my children, how are you?

I wanted to make this one a bit lighter, you know, since I did choose 'humor' and 'romance' as the genres.

So, with this done, all who's left is Sayori!

I know, it's going to be hard to make a funny prequel for her. But I'll try! Because this is what people with a 137 I.Q level do!

Anyways, as always,

Until next time,
