Over the next few days, Denki came over after school and we worked on the history chapter. He was doing really well. I was surprised and so was he. I'm proud of him.
We ended up studying with Mio and Bakugo after a while. Bakugo was wildly confused that Denki was managing to retain the information and insisting on watching how I tutored him. I swear if people would just talk to Denki like a normal person they'd realize there's more there than the accident-prone goof.
Ochako decided to move the beach day until after the test. Everyone still needs time to study.
Jiro finally came back to class one hundred percent better. She managed to write the sheet music for each song, I was impressed. We decided to do one on one practices to go over the sheets. Denki was first so it wouldn't take too much time from our studying, Bakugo swore he didn't need it but was next, and Tokoyami was yesterday. Mine is today, after our chapter test.
I sighed as I rolled over in bed. I'm not worried about the test today but I'm sure Denki is. He's worked so hard.
I thought about rolling over and getting a few more minutes of shut-eye but the smell of miso hit my nose and my stomach rumbled.
I yawned and crawled out of bed, slipping on my piggy slippers, and made my way to the kitchen.
"Whoa! How do you crack an egg with one hand, Mr. Kagayaku?! That's so cool!"
I thought I was hearing things. I know that voice.
I walked through the kitchen door and froze when I saw Denki, behind the island of my kitchen, wearing an apron, scooping rice in a bowl.
My dad smiled as he stirred his eggs, "Sugar muffin! Good morning! It looks like you slept well!"
Denki smiled, "Maki! Good morning!"
I suddenly felt self-conscious and I tried to smooth out my hair, "Uhh, Denki, what are you doing here so early?"
He shrugged, "I needed some last-minute encouragement and when I knocked, your father answered. I offered to help with breakfast."
Dad started cooking the eggs, "Go get dressed darling, then we can eat! And make sure your sister is up!"
I turned and rushed away, "Mio's old enough to get herself up."
I locked myself in my room. I can't believe he saw me with bed head.
I tried to shake the embarrassment and started to get ready.
As I came out of my room, Mio came from hers, "Dad is still here?"
I nodded, "He's not the only one."
She raised her brow and followed me into the kitchen. Her jaw dropped when she saw Denki at the table.
She nudged me, "Is there something you're not telling me?"
I shook my head, sitting next to Denki.
He set a bowl of miso in front of me along with some rice, "Enjoy!"
We ate breakfast peacefully, dad and Denki getting along rather well.
After, Denki cleaned up the mess and dad smiled, "Maki, dear, I like this one. Have a great day, girls. I love you more than the moon and stars."
He kissed our cheeks before leaving.
Mio sighed, "Call me when we're leaving, I'm laying back down."
I stood, nodding and dusting myself off, "You didn't have to clean up."
He shrugged as he put the last of the dishes in the sink, "I don't mind."
I nodded, rocking back and forth on my heels, "So, what brings you here this early, again?"
He sighed, "I'm nervous about the test. What if I don't do good? What if I forget everything?"
He ran his fingers through his hair, I swear, even when he's a wreck he's gorgeous.
"What if I wasted your time? I don't want you to be mad or disappointed."
I grabbed his hand, leading him to my room, "You need some courage."
When we got to the room, I pulled out some colored construction paper from my desk, giving him yellow and I took purple, "Here, write courage on this paper."
He raised his brow in confusion but wrote the word anyway.
I did the same and took both pages, folding them into puff stars, "My mom used to do this for me, I'm giving you a piece of my courage and you're giving me yours, that way even if we feel we don't have our own we have each other's if that makes sense."
He smiled brightly, "I love it."
I grabbed my bag, "We should get going."
I made my way to the door but he stopped me, "Thank you, Maki, for all of your help."
I nodded, "Anytime."
We grabbed Mio and made our way to school. Denki went to his locker while we went to ours.
Jiro was waiting for me, "Maki, are you ready for the test?"
I nodded, "Yeah, I'm fairly confident, you?"
She shrugged, "I'll do fine. And Denki?"
I couldn't hold back the smile, "I think he'll pass. He did so well on the practice exam yesterday."
She seemed impressed, "I'm glad someone has the patience to learn how Denki works. When Momo and Bakugo tried they got too frustrated too soon."
I shrugged, "I didn't have a hard time."
She sighed, "And you're ready for practice tonight?"
I nodded.
"Cool," She seemed pleased, "I was thinking we'd include the boys. I wanna see your range but I also want to be sure you can harmonize with them."
I nodded, "Sounds good to me."
When the bell rang we made our way to class. Denki smiled and waved as he saw.
He's such a sweetheart.
Aizawa sighed as he passed out the test, "I won't tolerate cheating. You all know the drill. Stay quiet, turn it over when you're done."
I glanced at Denki as he started his test. He concentrated really hard. I know he can do this.
The test seemed easy for me but I remember everything I read.
When I finished I glanced at Mio, she was passed out, she must've finished the test.
I looked to Denki, he's still working hard. Concentrating full on. He seemed to be moving through the test at a good pace.
When the time was up, we passed our tests to the front.
Aizawa collected them and sighed, "I'll have your grades posted online by lunch."
He had us start the outline for the chapter while he graded everyone's test.
Denki pulled a seat up to my desk, "How do you think you did?"
I shrugged, "I think I did well. How about you?"
He sighed, "I don't know. I'm scared."
I took my star from my pocket, "You did well, I'm sure of it."
He smiled brightly.
Jiro pulled a seat up next to me, "So, I'm sure I passed that but I don't think I got a perfect score. How did you do, Mio?"
We all looked at her, still asleep.
I shook my head, "She probably passed."
We spent the rest of the time talking and slowly working on the chapter.
When lunch came, Mio and I went to get food and went to my tree.
I set my things down and stretched, "Are you coming to rehearsal tonight?"
She nodded as she sat under the tree, "Of course I am, the manager has to be there for their client."
I raised my brow, "Your client?"
She continued to nod, "You wouldn't have had the guts to do the audition if I hadn't have pushed you."
I shook my head, "How does that make you my manager?"
She shrugged, "Because I claim the title."
I rolled my eyes.
She grabbed her phone, "Hey, scores are up."
I took my phone out and checked.
"MAAAAKKKIIII!" I heard Denki scream.
Before I could react, I felt arms around my waist, and I suddenly started spinning.
I felt a slight panic, "What is going on?"
He set me on my feet with a huge grin, "You are an angel sent from above! I swear it, you are."
I felt the blush flow in my cheeks, "Uhh I am? Why?"
He hugged me again, "I passed the test, I got an 82%! That's my best score all year!"
Bakugo rolled his eyes, "That's the best score you've gotten since you were a child."
I smiled at Denki, "That's really good!"
Bakugo shrugged as he sat next to Mio, "Big surprise coming from short charge."
Denki's face fell for a second before looking away to shake off the comment.
I sighed, "Wanna go for a walk?"
He smiled, nodding.
Mio started to stand but I looked at her, don't follow.
We walked through to the track field and Denki sighed, "I can't believe I got an 82! I bet Aizawa is gonna think I cheated."
I shook my head, "I doubt it. He knows I tutored you."
He ran his fingers through his yellow and black hair, "It feels good to finally pass something."
I smiled, he looks so proud of himself, "Well, I'll be glad to study with you anytime."
He grinned, "I am going to definitely take you up on that." He sighed, "I'm so glad I didn't disappoint you."
I shook my head, "I wouldn't be disappointed in you even if you did fail because I know you tried your best."
He rocked back on his heels, "Did you eat?"
I shook my head, "I got food but I left it with Mio."
He frowned, "Wanna go get something to eat?"
I nodded, smiling, "Sure."
We went back to the cafeteria, I grabbed some pocky and juice and went to pay.
I dug in my bag but stopped when Denki reached past me, "Here ya go!"
I shook my head, "No, I can't let you do that."
He shrugged, "It's okay."
We walked around for a while just eating.
We went back to class, Denki sat beside me, "I never asked how did you do?"
I shrugged, "I didn't check, I was in the middle of it when you hugged me."
I took my phone out, logging in to check, "I got a 98."
He got a huge grin on his face, "That's amazing!"
I shrugged, "History is easy for me, it's basically memorizing. I remember basically everything I read."
He seemed impressed, "Hey, do you have a book with you?"
I nodded, grabbing my current read from my bag, "Yeah, why?"
He laid his head on the desk, "Can you read to me? I really enjoyed it."
I couldn't help but smile and I nodded, "Of course."
I started at the first page even though I'm almost done with the book.
I read to him until the bell rang. He seemed happy the whole time.
When class was over, Mio and I met up with Jiro at the music room. As we walked up, we could hear vocals harmonizing.
Jiro peered in and sighed, "The choir is in there."
"Oooooh," I heard Mio, "This is what they meant."
I looked at her, brow raised, "What?"
She shrugged, "At lunch, I heard some girls talking about having to book a room for the choir but I didn't know what they were talking about, I'm guessing this was it."
Jiro sighed, "Damn it, I'm gonna go in and ask when's the next time we can use it."
I sighed and checked my phone, I had a message from Denki:
Denki: Hey, I'll be at practice in a bit then I can take you and Mio home ?
Me: We may not be practicing.
Denki: Why not?
Me: The choir is here.
Denki: Oooooh
Jiro came back out, annoyed, "They're book ahead in months. We have nowhere to practice. I'd say my house but it's just as busy."
"I mean…" I heard Mio.
I glanced at her, shocked.
She shrugged, "Oh, come on, we have a place, you need one. It's a no brainer."
I sighed and motioned for her to continue.
"We have a recording room in our back house."
Jiro was surprised, "Really? Why?"
We shrugged, "Our mom."
Jiro nodded, "And we can use it?"
Mio nodded, "Probably, we just have to talk to our dad first but I'm sure it'll be fine."
Jiro nodded, "Alright, let me know. I guess I'll just head home. Text me and we can do your vocals tomorrow."
I nodded, waving to her.
Mio and I waited for Denki and Bakugo by the music room. Bakugo got there first.
He sighed, "So, what's going on?"
Mio filled him in as I did with Denki when he got there.
Denki shrugged, "So, I guess I'll just take you home."
I nodded, "And if my dad is home, you may have to stay and help with dinner."
Bakugo raised his brow.
Mio tried to hold back a laugh, "Denki had breakfast at our house and saw Maki fresh out of bed."
I shook my head, "I can't believe I look like that when I wake up."
Denki shrugged, "If that what you look like every morning, you don't know what I'd give to wake up next to you every day."
My heart froze hearing those words. My face was redder than watermelon. Does he mean those words?
Everyone was shocked.
Denki shrugged, "What?"
Mio started to laugh.
Denki sighed, "Want a ride?"
Bakugo started walking away, "She's going with me."
Mio glared at him, "I didn't agree to that."
Bakugo looked back, "I'll get you a mystery bag."
Mio's eyes lit up, "Coming."
I raised my brow as she walked away, "Is it just me or are they weird?"
Denki nodded, "They're weird."
Denki dropped me off at home, no one else was here.
I made my way to my room and laid in bed. It wasn't long until I was out.
