I shook my head, irritated, "Bakugo, we've had this discussion a million times, you can't just write your own drum solo in a cover song."
He growled, "It's called being creative, sorry none of you can do that."
I looked over at Mio, "Are you gonna handle this?"
She raised her brow, "Me? What do you expect me to do? I'm not his keeper."
Denki shrugged, "Maybe we should ask Deku to tell him to chill."
Bakugo continued to growl as he threw a drum stick at Denki, "Shut up, dumbass!"
Tokoyami sighed, "I'm going to assume we're done for the day?"
Jiro nodded, "Yeah, Bakugo's lost it, there's no getting him back to focusing now. Besides, we should rest, the dance is tomorrow. I want to squeeze in some practice before though."
We all nodded.
She unplugged her keyboard and grabbed her bag, "I talked to Nezu, by the way, he said we're only performing for the first half-hour of the dance so we'll have plenty of time to actually participate in the dance."
I looked over at Denki, he was laughing and teasing Bakugo who was fuming.
He never asked me to go with him.
Tokoyami hung up his bass, "Do you guys have a date?"
I saw Jiro blush, "Kirishima asked me, I said yes."
I smiled, that's cute.
Mio shrugged, "I'm only going because you guys are performing, I'll probably just hang out with Iida, I was going to hang with Ochako but she asked Deku and he said yes."
I was shocked she had the guts to ask him.
Tokoyami looked over at me, "What about you, Maki?"
I glanced over at Denki, his attention now on me, I shrugged, "Uhh, no, I don't have a date, I'll probably bail after our show."
Bakugo shrugged, "That's my plan. Dances are stupid."
Jiro nudged Tokoyami, "What about you guys, do either of you have dates?"
Tokoyami shrugged, "I'm going with Kendo from class 3B."
I was surprised.
Denki let out a laugh, "You and Kendo, huh? That's a surprise."
He nodded, "Yeah, what about you, Denki?"
I felt his eyes on me, "Uh, no, I guess I don't have a date."
Jiro sighed, "Well, Tokoyami, we should get going."
He waved goodbye as he followed her out.
Bakugo stood, "I'm out."
Mio followed him out, teasing him about his lack of a date.
I heard Denki sigh as he hung his guitar up, "So, you're not gonna stay after our show?"
I shrugged, "I don't know. Everyone pretty much has a date so I'll feel a bit like a third wheel."
"What about me?"
I was surprised at his question, he sounded a little sad, "What do you mean?"
I heard him step closer, "You don't want to go with me? Is there someone else you wanted to go with?"
I raised my brow, confused as hell, "What are you talking about?"
He crossed his arms over his chest, he suddenly felt a million miles away, "I thought, since you're my girlfriend, we were going together."
"I… didn't know you wanted to go with me."
He looked up at me, shocked, "Why wouldn't I want to go with you? You're my girlfriend, you're the only person I want to go with."
I felt a little stupid, "But you didn't ask me."
He took another step closer, "I didn't know I had to. I assumed we'd be going together and that it was obvious. I didn't think I had to ask you, otherwise, I would've."
I looked up at him, "Really?"
I felt his arms as they wrapped around me, "Really. You're the only person I would even consider taking to the dance."
I laid my head on his chest, "I'm sorry."
He kissed the top of my head, "It's okay. I should've thought about it, have you ever been asked to a dance?"
I shook my head.
He sighed, "That's what I thought. I'm sorry, my Buzzy Beautiful Sunshine Nugget, I should've formally asked you to be my date."
He pulled away, leaning down, lightly kissing my lips, "Maki, would you please accompany me to the dance?"
I smiled, hugging him tightly, "I would love to."
He let out a light laugh, "Next time will be better, I promise."
I shrugged, "This was perfect."
He pulled away, "My Buzzy Beautiful Sunshine Nugget, you are perfect."
I rolled my eyes, "I am not. I'm far from it, I have a lot of flaws."
He nodded, "Yeah, but even those are perfect."
I shook my head, "You're so silly, let's go in the house… we could watch a movie."
He smiled brightly, "Yes! I'd love to!"
Dad wasn't home yet and Mio was probably in her room. I sat on the couch, next to him, flipping on the TV, "What do you wanna watch?"
He wrapped his arm around my shoulders, pulling me to lean on him, "Hmm, something funny! I love your laugh."
I felt a blush as I scrolled through the comedies.
He pointed at the screen to one, "That one, Kirishima said it's hilarious."
I nodded, clicking on it. Nobody's Fool never heard of it.
It wasn't long before we were both busting up.
Denki held me as we laughed.
When the credits rolled I sighed, "Kirishima was right, that was funny."
Denki held me tightly, "I'm not ready to go home."
I looked at the clock and sighed, "It's almost nine. Won't your parents worry?"
He sighed, "My parents… About that… Umm, there's something I need to talk to you about."
I raised my brow, "What about them?"
He nervously rubbed his face, "Um, well, I told them I have a girlfriend and now they want to meet you… before the dance."
I was shocked, "They want to meet me?"
He nodded, "Yeah, they're pretty insistent on it."
I felt a bit of panic, "I… what if they don't like me?"
He shook his head, "What are you talking about?! They're going to love you, how could they not? You're the sweetest, cutest girl ever. Definitely the best I've ever brought home."
I suddenly felt self-conscious, "You've brought girls home, before?"
He nodded, "I've brought every girl I've dated home."
I raised a brow, "How many girls have you dated?" I don't even know. I've liked him for three years and I've seen him flirt and ask out every girl in our class but I didn't know anyone ever said yes… I mean, I don't blame them, he's amazing.
He sighed as he thought about it, "I don't know, a few. I dated Momo our first year for like two weeks, but she was too high maintenance for me, I couldn't afford to take her on the fancy dates she wanted."
I didn't know he was ever with Momo, I wonder if he ever kissed her. Or anything else, she's pretty and was well developed back then, more than I was… not that he knew who I was.
"Then I dated Mina, we were together for about a month, I think she felt bad for me though. I kept getting shot down. We were together in title only, though, we never even went on a real date."
How did I not know this?
He sighed, "Then, I dated a few of my parents' friends' daughters but nothing ever lasted. They were either too high maintenance or just weren't who I thought they were because I didn't really get to know them before going out with them."
He reached out, hugging me tightly, "That's why you're different. You and I were friends for a while before I told you how I felt. I know you. I know you like reading, I know potatoes are your favorite thing to eat in any form, I know when you're sad or upset all I gotta do is take you to a bookstore or a library and you'll relax, I know purple is your favorite color, I know you get flustered when there's too much attention on you but when there's a mic in front of you that melts away, I know you got your voice from your mom, and I know I'm the only guy you've ever been romantic with so I bet you're feeling weird knowing I've dated other girls."
I was shocked… how did he know?
He smiled, "I knew it, based on the way you've reacted to everything so far I knew this would wig you out."
I frowned, "Am I that predictable? I probably shouldn't care."
He let out a laugh, "My god, you are so cute! It's okay, Maki, it's normal. But, let me reassure you, you are far more important than any of the other girls I've been with. You're more serious. You're real."
I felt the smile on my face form, "Really?"
He nodded, "You're someone I see a future with. I've been dreaming of a future with you since the day we hung out at the roller rink. When I saw Mineta going for you, I panicked, I didn't want to see you get hurt, I tried to catch you but we both went down. The look on your face when you looked up at me was the cutest."
"Denki…" My voice was soft.
He smiled, "I didn't understand it at first, I've liked girls before but not like this. Something was different. When I saw you in the bookstore, I didn't even hesitate to ditch Kirishima, I had to talk to you. Then you auditioned for the band, your voice, I was hooked deeper. I found any excuse to text you.
Then we spent lunch together, you cheered me up and read to me for the first time. I'd never had someone care so much. You made me feel good about myself."
I felt a tear roll down my cheek
Denki looked concerned, "My Buzzy Beautiful Sunshine Nugget, why are you crying?"
"I didn't know I was."
He wiped the tear away, "Don't cry, I just wanted you to know you're more important to me than any other girl. You don't have to compare yourself to any of them, you're far superior."
I jumped on him, hugging him, "Denki…"
He squeezed me, "Maki, you don't have to worry, I care about you and only you, and my parents, they'll love you just as much as I do."
"Get a room," Mio grumbled as she walked through.
I scrambled to get off of him, "We weren't doing anything!" I felt the heat in my cheeks.
She rolled her eyes, "Dad will be home soon, it's a little late for him to be over."
Denki nodded as he stood, "She's right. I should get going."
I felt the pout on my lips.
He leaned down, lightly kissing my pout, "Don't pout at me, I'll be here in the morning to pick you up for school."
I sighed, "Fine, don't forget to text me when you're home."
He nodded as he walked to the door, "I never do."
Mio sat in dad's chair, "What did you guys watch?"
"Nobody's Fool, it was pretty funny."
She nodded, "I watched it with Bakugo and Kirishima."
I raised my brow, "When?"
She shrugged, "While you weren't talking to me."
"Oh."
She sighed, "Dad's supposed to be bringing food, where is he? I'm starving."
I shrugged, "I don't think I can eat."
She raised her brow, "Why not?"
I laid out on the couch, "Denki's parents want to meet me."
She busted up laughing, "I want to be a fly on the wall when that happens. What are his parents even like? I don't think I've ever seen them."
I nodded, "They don't get much screen time."
Mio shook her head, "You say the weirdest things."
I rolled my eyes, "What if they hate me?"
She laughed, "Please, you're a straight-A student that's never been in trouble and you're helping electro dork get better grades, how could they hate you?"
I shrugged, "I don't know, they've never liked his past girlfriends."
She nodded, "Well, yeah, they weren't good people. Bakugo told me about his ex-girlfriends. He has had the worst taste until you."
I was shocked, "Really?"
She sighed, "You're going to do fine." She got up, grabbing the remote, "By the way, you're not going to the dance with him?"
I shrugged, "I didn't think I was but I guess I am."
Mio looked beyond confused, "What?"
I shook my head, "It's a long and embarrassing story but yes, he's my date."
She made a face, "You guys are weird."
I glared at her, she's one to talk. Has she seen the way she and Bakugo are?
Oh, god, I can't believe I'm meeting his parents.
Tomorrow is gonna be a nerve-wracking day.
