We walk until dark. Haymitch throws rocks at the forcefield so that we don't run into it. There is no water and this arena is hot. I am dehydrating really fast and so are the others.
When we finally stop I leave to go find some food. Mags found some nuts she recognized so we have those, but we need more. I find a small creature and shoot it down. I have never seen it before but it's meat and we need it. I shoot down a few more and head back to our camp. Finnick has made us a shelter and Haymitch is eating nuts with Mags.
"I have meat," I say as I walk up.
"That's great sweetheart," Haymitch says annoyed." How are we supposed to cook it? We can't light a fire. That just sends a beacon for the others to find us."
"Use the forcefield," Finnick says. "I threw a nut at it and it cooked it."
"Great idea Finnick," I say and I start cutting up the meat.
We feasted on the meat and nuts.
"I'll take first watch Finnick says as we finish our meal.
I still don't trust him fully. "No way. I'll watch with you."
We sit there in complete darkness until the Capitol seal shines in the sky. Everyone but me looks at it with sad eyes. I know it must be harder on them because they knew these people personally. Eight people died. The man from 5 that Finnick threw his trident at, the male morphling from 6, both from 8, both from 9, Haymitch had been fighting the male, the women from 10 and Seeder from 11. Eight victors gone. Sixteen left.
Right after the seal disappeared I hear the beeping of a parachute. I stand up and look around to see a silver parachute coming towards us. I walk over to it and bring it back to the camp. With all eyes watching me I opened it to find a sliver pipe thing and a note from Peeta.
"Stay alive and drink up," it said.
Drink up? How are we supposed to drink out of this? That's when Haymitch chimed in.
"I think that's a spile. I've seen other mentors send that for their tributes," he says.
I gave the spile to Haymitch and he used a rock to hammer it into a nearby tree. We all waited in anticipation and finally water came out the spile and we all drank water until we thought we were going to throw up.
With our stomachs full and our mouths no longer dry we prepared for sleep. FInnick and I would watch first. It wasn't until both of the others were asleep that he spoke to me.
"You know, if I wanted to kill you I would have done it by now," he said.
"Where did you get that bracelet?" I asked.
"Peeta gave it to me hoping that if you'd see it you would take me as an ally," he answered. I smile. Of course Peeta did. He wanted me to be protected.
"Is it really true?" Finnick said as he put his hand on my stomach. "The baby?"
"Yes," I say. He can tell I am telling the truth.
After a while Finnick says, "if you aren't going to sleep, I will."He lays down to sleep.
Sitting there, I think about how much I really want to leave the arena. I don't stop thinking about it until a white fog appears. As it comes towards us I reach out to touch it, thinking it must be morning soon. I was wrong. The second I touch it my hand blisters up and pain spreads throughout my entire hand. The fog is poisoned.
